Man, it is getting harder and harder to find videos to embed in this thread.
Okay, so a little time has passed since the romance of Bigfoot-ette and the crazy finger guy. We've also seen Donnie get some really confusing mixed signals from April - she doesn't like the music box, but she kisses him on the lips and calls him 'her mutant'.
We've gotten past all the crazy weird stuff with the puke creep and Bigfoot, so now they can settle down into the 'routine'- Cleaning up the house and clearing out the cobwebs. Dusting and polishing ALL the wood furniture in the house.
And then the basement. I hate basements... they're dark, dank, full of old stuff, and infested with enough spiders to make a Steven King movie.
April said that this farm was her childhood home - away from the city, away from outside contact. We know now that she's not a normal human being, but it does bring up more questions. What was her father doing during the time they were there? Was she a normal kid back then? And where is her mother? (...we're starting to sound just like the avatar fans!)
WILL DONNIE CONTINUE TO SPAR WITH CASEY FOR APRIL'S HEART?!
WILL APRIL FIND OUT THE TRUTH OF WHAT HAPPENED TO HER MOTHER!
IS KIRBY REALLY THE LOVING FATHER WE'VE BEEN LEAD TO BELIEVE?!
Oh yeah.... DID MIKEY SAVE THE REFRIGERATOR LAST WEEK, AND RESCUE POOR ICKITTY?!
Stay tuned!!

Getting a little sick of the "character X is not who you think they are" plot. Saw it coming 10,000 miles away. That aside, this was a very entertaining episode. Loved the nods to They Live & The Thing, ice cream kitty getting more screen time, & dark stuffs.

Edit: Starting to like Seth a bit as Leo, at least when his tone sounds smoother and less gravelly. One or two parts in this one he just sounded like a good, older Leo who's voice had simply deepened, not bad. :)

My quick thoughts:
-Why doesn't anyone listen to Mikey at this point?! He's been right about his feelings/hunches too many times now!
-THE THING reference! Creepy as heck to boot.
-April always getting that head power thing in knick of time and when there is no other option: are they ever going to explain what it is anytime soon?
-Ice Cream Kitty and Mikey are too adorable.
-Frog mutation coming soon. Wonder what that'll become.
-Casey seems to be really great to talk to when someone is really having emotional turmoil.
-My favorite of the movie homage episodes thus far.

Renae Jacobs did a fine job. Ironically, the only times she really sounded like her old April voice was her screams, faints, and "evil" mood.

1) The feels like the start of a story arc. The search for Mrs. O'Neil.
2) Renae Jacobs is a nice choice for who should voice April's mother.
3) We're going to see the Punk Frogs next episode.

The only reason I can figure for that is that they don't want Leo to feel like a liability that needs to be sheltered and protected while he's recovering (though he's already proven he can handle himself with the Creep). For someone whose suppose to be the oldest and the leader, that would not help Leo's self esteem at all.
Of course I could be wrong and they were just being little chicken sh*ts.

AAAAH!!! NO NO NO!!! EVIL!!! EVIL NIGHTMARE FODDER!!!! I saw that clip when I was ten and man, did it mess me up!!! Ironically, it was when I was staying the night at my grandmothers....
And then the basement. I hate basements... they're dark, dank, full of old stuff, and infested with enough spiders to make a Steven King movie.
You too? Yeah, I never like going in the basement either. But that's where we keep the litter box and it is MY cat, so it's my responsibility and....
Ok, 'bout the episode. Man, these are getting weirder and weirder. I really hope the writers are focusing on the plot as well as the visuals for this show. I mean that...thing was pretty messed up, but pretty clever in design. So, the Thing remembered April's mother getting captured and apparently they had been experimenting on her family's bloodline since her great grandfather?
Well, if they knew that the Kraang ship landed on that property...WHY DO THEY HAVE A HOUSE OUT THERE??!?!? I mean, April's mother had to have known that the Kraang activity should still be there, so why would they keep going back to a dangerous place like that? Maybe I missed something...
Once again, poor Mikey is said to be stupid and nobody believes him until it's too late. Although Pizza Face is still debatable. And how exactly DID he sense something was wrong with April's mother. I didn't notice any warning signs going off when Irma showed up or when Kirby was brain controlled. Still, I'm glad he was picked off early so we got it down to Raphael.
As for April's powers, that's still pretty confusing. It only seems to happen around Kraang when her adrenaline reaches a certain point. I don't think it's a sonic scream, like someone said, but more of a psychic blast. Her screaming is just from how much it hurts her.
I certainly hope that April's mother comes back or is somewhere. If her DNA is special since her grandfather's days, then she'd have been too important to just dispose of. But that would mean that the Kraang could've taken over the planet years ago as opposed to when April was born.
I really want to believe in this show guys. I really really want this to be as good as it was in the first season, but I'm starting to think we may have jumped the shark awhile back.
Still, I'll keep watching it, even if it is for episodic purposes.

Felt kinda a tiny bit bad for the Turtles though along with April. Asking where "mom" is, rather than saying "Mrs. O'Neil"... words they'd never really had a chance to speak before. Too bad she wasn't legit and couldn't have gotten to know them as family, too.

Not really. Karai was initially connected with Shredder, and has her main bond with Leo. Irma was still best friends with April like in the OT (and that is still up in the air, the real Irma could still be out there, and the producers are just pulling our legs) Hun is still going to have his rival with Casey. Leatherhead is still buddies with Mikey the most. Casey was still introduced to the gang via Raphael.

really enjoyable episode, and all the characters were done great.
Leo- sure he was forced to go down first but once he found the ship, he willingly led the way. still leading even while injured. starting to love seths voice. gets across some empathy, fits.
donnie- checking the facts as always. didnt seem overly love struck despite aprils kiss, which is good..
raph- a decent raph episode, one of the last to be caught by that thing, good fighting scenes, typical raph attitude
mikey- knew something was off and was right, him and ick were great
casey- started off obnoxious, but the scene where he shocked the thign shows hes not useless, even if it didnt work, and nice scene at the end
april- great for her, stuck between her friends and her mom, seems her powers only really affect the kraang

I thought the episode was amazing. My favorite of season 3 so far, although that's not saying much as there have only been 3 episodes.
Seth Green is getting better and better. Mikey was awesome this episode - awesome, adorable scene with ICK.
The second half was so creepy! I love when this show is dark.
The humor was awesome. Every joke hit its mark for me.
I felt super sorry for April this episode.
My only complaint: Mrs. O'Neil's voice. It bothered me the whole episode. Seeing as Renae Jacobs hasn't had any voice acting jobs since 1996, I think she may have lost some of her skill. Or it just might have felt off because the mother was supposed to seem weird. Perhaps that's why the voice was so stiff and sort of emotionless.
I don't know what people are talking about when saying this show has jumped the shark. I actually think it's getting better. I love season 1 - pretty much all the episodes are great - but while season 2 had a couple misses I thought it's good episodes were better than even season 1's greats (of course, I can't remember all the episodes, so I may regret writing that later). And so far this season, Within the Woods was amazing except for what happened with Raph, A Foot too Big had some good parts and a lot of wasted potential, and this episode was perfectly creepy and funny, with a lot of emotion.
Good episode. I feel like this should have come before the last one, though. Donnie was still trying to impress April and like...if it IS in the correct order, they waited an awfully long time to clean that house.

This episode was okay for me.
-Mikey being the one to know something was up with April's mom was nice....but just straight up attacking her was kinda stupid.
-Casey started off jerky...but he was really sweet while trying to comfort April.
-I'm used to Seth Green now. :D
-yay! April/Raph/Casey teamup! that's new!!! XD no Donnie!?
-why....does NO ONE EVER LISTEN TO MIKEY!!!!?? :x I know they were trying to make April happy, but come on! Trying to make it sound like he's been wrong before in off screen scenes is dumb! They only did this so they can try and justify their doubt in him.
-also.....Apri's mind powers are a Dues Ex Machina. How bout she try defeat something without them. Otherwise I'm not gonna be screaming "you go girl!!" when she doesn't even have to work for it.

I really enjoyed this episode. It was dark and insanely creepy. It gave me vibes of one of the more darker episodes of the 2003 series. Hearing April's mother's voice, that's definitely Renae Jacobs. I liked how Mike was able to notice that something was off about her. Too bad it was another one of those cases where he acted before thinking and his brothers not believing him again. And once again, his brothers didn't acknowledge that he was right all along. *Sigh*...just when you think they take one step forward with him, they take one step back.

Yeah that first shot of her true self with that weird Kraang face was really creepy. I thought this episode was lightyears ahead of A Foot Too Big. Did you think when they showed her dad driving away that the van looked like the original Party Wagon? Also there was a part in the flashback that looked like Kraang's body from the OT. From what I understand, Mike Myers was only supposed to be in the first two movies, and then every "Halloween" movie after it would tell a different horror story. But because Halloween 3 didn't do so well and people whined about no Mike Myers we were given five god awful Halloween movies with Michael Myers after Halloween 3.

There are some things that felt off about the fake Mom's story. Why would the family, generation after generation, continue live in the same farm of where they keep geting abducted? That as stupid moving into a house that had a murder while the ax killer is still on the loose.
Meh, get over the conceit, I guess.
Anyway, seems like Mikey will continue to suffer the Cassandra curse. Oh well, but I'm willing to take plot amnesia over shipping. Lesser of two evils, I suppose.

Yeah, I understand. I think it just wants to allow people with the "right" cable providers, but in that case I wish instead they would allow those providers to show it on their own sites instead. I could log mine prob, but noooo... Nick don't like no Comcast, I'm an outcast in Nicktown. Just taunt me with their locks instead.
Yes. Why the fu#$%^cking games Nick? I can't get it on demand, or Hulu except for a few episodes here and there. This is a bit frustrating. Hopefully someone can get it up on youtube and I can catch it before it gets taken down. I'm still waiting for the second half of season 2 to be available for streaming on amazon, but that is sure taking it's sweet ass time.

I loved that they called her Mom, too. It was odd to hear them say that for the first time in their lives. Leo was especially cute when he did it. This episode was the first time I really felt they were all a family. I wish they could all be together again though, with Karai and Splinter.

I kinda wish Splinter and Karai could get up there to that house, find and save April's dad, and they can all just live their own lives left alone as one big happy mixed up family.
I suppose as a series it would quickly get boring, but just they themselves...really, who needs the city and all those silly human problems. lol

Good episode. I feel like this should have come before the last one, though. Donnie was still trying to impress April and like...if it IS in the correct order, they waited an awfully long time to clean that house.
Yeah, you are so right. It feels like this was supposed to be the second episode like they just arrived. April ignoring Donnie, which made me so disgusted, felt out of place after last week's episode. But, Leo was not as injured this episode as he was in the beginning, so maybe it is in order? I'm not sure.

That's the tough side to a series, no matter how bad we want them to be all cozy and comfortable, it can never be because then it would be boring. Joss Whedon used to say that he gave the viewers what they needed, not what they wanted. I can see that in this series all too well. Every now and then we need to have what we want though. :)

I would almost say yes to this, but wouldn't April have said something about her mother in A Foot Too Big?
With this episode, I'm just seeing what typical teenagers do, in that, when alone, they have no problem showing they like someone, but when surrounded by others, then they just act cold towards them. Like, they might be afraid of being judged or that they might be making things difficult for the family as a whole. It's especially common when you are friends with a family with multiple siblings, and you kind of keep that part of you hidden from everyone but the one you kind of like.

Oh, you mean how she is staying out of Donnie's way in hopes that he might be able to unlock the truth to where her mother is, and she knows if she is near him, she might distract him from that? funny...I don't remember a time when Donnie and April had a long talk about something....it's usually Casey :)

I gotta say I'm really starting to like Seth Green as Leo, and it was nice to see a softer side of Casey for once.

Most of April/Donnie scenes are going to be off screen. And how many times has April kissed Donnie? And how many times has she kissed Casey? Oh, yeah, that's kind of leaning towards one side! And why would April get so jealous of Karai if she didn't kind of like Donnie? Hmmmm?
April's reaction here is pure, 100% jealousy!

Okay, so I finally managed to watch this week's episode. I LOVED it!! I like it more than last week's episode. lol
Oh, here's a tipoff to all. The characters with green eyes can not be trusted. April's mom had green eyes. Irma had green eyes. Raph has green eyes (and he's going to become Dark Raph). Hmm.... :P
Okay, I really liked Casey for this episode. He didn't come across as insensitive and stuff and to be honest, when Casey was talking with April when she was telling him that her mother wanted to leave, I was hoping that Casey would say something about his own mother. Maybe it's just me, but seems like he wanted to say more there other than, "She's your mom." That was a huge missed opportunity, imo, to get into Casey's family a bit more. Maybe something like, "If I could hang with my mom again, I probably would too." or somethng.
I thought Raph was great in this episode. He was pretty sarcastic, and I love how he told Casey that he's being stupid like Mikey. lol
Oh, a tipoff... When April's mom mentioned wanting to get away from the Turtles and for it to be the two of them, that should've alarmed April right there...partially. She said she wanted to get away from the "creatures". She's including Casey in that, which is unusual, ne?
I liked how Mikey didn't trust her, and him with ICK was just so cute! Animals are good at sensing the good in people or if something is off about people. Too bad the others never saw ICK's reaction to Mrs. O'Neil.
Oh, did anyone else think "Invasion of the Bodysnatchers?" I love how creepy each turtle was when taken over. Donnie's was best, though, when going after Leo. Oh, and April and apparently, Leo were in search of Mrs. O'Neil...does this man that Raph wasn't asked to help look for her?
Now the explanation at the end was interesting. That thing had April's mother's memories. So, if that 's the case, doesn't that make everything in the earlier part of this series a bit moot? They have photos. They had to know that Kirby and April were who they were looking for. It makes the Kraang Conspiracy (I think it was; the ep where April mailed in her DNA) kind of pointless, doesn't it? Kirby looks the same, minus the fro. They even knew his name after kidnapping him, right? From ep 1 they should've realized that Kirby was definitely the one they were looking for. I dunno, this whole explanation seems iffy to me.
As for April's powers, I have to side with Cybercubed...seems she goes all out when under a lot of pressure and stress. It is a deux ex machina, but...it's the only logical explanation, right?
So, other than feeling this ep has created a plothole, I really did enjoy it. So far, this is my favorite ep. I loved how creepy it was, especially when Donnie, Leo, and Mikey popped out of April's mom and stuff saying "One of us"...wait, isn't that from that Children of the Corn story or whatever it was called? Pretty sure it was a Stephen King story.

Agree with that plot hole point, but, it's a kids show, so sometimes you have to just roll your eyes at it. But, that one of us, it was eerily similar to the robots chants in Irobot.
Not at all she's more of a sister to them .
Don't look at it from an age perspective, look at it from what they've told you throughout the series. Remember when Mikey was hugging the mutagen canister in the pilot calling it "mom"? Well why was the mutagen there in the first place? Because the Kraang, even then 15 years ago, were looking for April.
- The Kraang have been after April since she was born.
- The Kraang were in New York looking for her with the mutagen when Yoshi spied on them in the story from the pilot.
- The mutagen mutated Splinter and The Turtles during the fight.
April is indirectly the reason The Turtles became who they are, so in a interesting roundabout way to the turtles, April is "mom".

So do y'all think April's mom's memories were true?
I do. She was created by a race that are telepathic. They can extract DNA, why not memories.
The thing that I thought was weird is how Mrs O'Neil (or 'Mom-Thing' as she was listed as in the credits - I'm being serious) called Kirby 'Kirby' and not 'your dad'. 'Where's Kirby?' sounded a bit off to me. You'd say that if he was a step-father, not a dad.
It's nice to see some of Mikey's natural ninja abilities coming through and the film nods. The great thing is, you don't have to be a horror film buff to enjoy the references. I never really watch horror - but I've really enjoyed the last few episodes.
Somebody said it had quite a Coraline vibe about this one. I'd agree with that. Coraline's one of my favourite films and short of button eyes, this episode was reminiscent of the film/book in so many ways.

Wow what a scary episode this was, i'm surprised this got past the censors.
I felt sorry for Mikey because no one believed him, They need to trust him more on his senses. I wonder, since his time alone in Dimension X his senses have improved a lot. In Dimension X he learned that cute monsters were bad and that sense happened here with April's Mum as he knew something was off with her.
Loved some of the references in it:
When Mikey said evil clown, evil clown, this was referenced to Steven Kings IT.
Raph watching the pumpking on the tv was a reference to Halloween 3.
When the monster controlled Donnie/Leo and they had tenticles coming out of there arm, this was the reference to the 2K3 episode The Darkness Within.
The Monster was the reference to the movie, The Thing.
Moments
Wonder how long Leo will use the crutch for.
I so used to hearing Seth as Leo now, he's done a good job so far.
Love the cleaning segment, reminded me of 2nd movie when the turtles were cleaning April's apartment.
Lol Raph goes up the chimnney to clean it
Clever how Mikey is cleaning the lights dangerling upside down using his kusarigama chain.
Casey sitting in the bathtub, hope Raph cleaned it out properly after Bigfoot S**t in it.
Why did Mikey get the blame for messing up, it was Donnie's fault for pushing Casey into him.
Love that Mikey caught April when she fainted.
Love the flashback moments, April was cute when she was young.
Lol, Leo held his pinky out when he drank his tea.
Mikey's Ninja senses kicking in, he doesn't trust April's Mum
Mikey and ICK moment was adorable
It was good of Donnie to go back to the Kraang ship to check the files, so it looks like he wanted to see if Mikey's senses were correct.
OMG that Mikey stare was freaky
Like the new team up with April, Casey and Raph.
April's mom changing into that monster was freaky
The Monster face/neck split in half was freaky
Seeing Donnie's, Mikey's and Leo's faces coming out of the monsters neck was freaky
April uses her Powers to stop the monster.
Ewww, moster gunk and parts everywhere.
Awww April supporting Donnie
Awww brotherly moment betweeen Leo and Mikey, when Mikey was being sick, Leo was supporting him.
Poor April, thought she got her mum back but it wasn't her mum, nice to see Casey and Leo comforting her.
Love the Mikey, I was right, in your face moment, yeah you tell them Mikey.

Liked this episode way more than last week's! All the horror references were great (even though I'm not a fan of horror, I enjoy some scary things around Halloween). My favorite part was definitely the Mikey/ICKitty bit. I also liked the part where they supposedly entered a breakdancing contest. Loved every Mikey moment here- evil clown, ICK, distrust of April's mom, fighting April's mom, the blank and happy creepy stare (freaky), and his boasting at the end.
Also the Raph, April, Casey team up was great and refreshing.
Am really digging Seth Green as Leo.
Don't really have anything to complain about, glad the April, Donnie, Casey thing was just a quick bit at the beginning. Why did they wait three months to clean, though? I thought Mikey had been doing chores. Or maybe it was just some bi weekly deep cleaning?
Anyway, loved the episode! :tgrin:

I feel like this episode really pushed the boundaries for how scary a monster can be in a kids show. It was great of course. And I don't watch the show with any kids, although I wish I could because I'd like to see their perspective on it.
And once again I get the feeling that the animation is very gradually improving, there were many times in this episode where I felt like there were movements or shot compositions that we probably would not have seen in Season 1 as they continue to improve every aspect of how they do things. It's great!
Only complaint is the plot itself. I like the whole Kraang ship under the house bit and all the backstory, but if they really wanted to go the Aprils-Mom-Is-Really-Something-Else route then I wish they'd gone more The Thing in how they executed on it.
Yes, The Thing references are VERY apparent in this episode, but what should have happened was once Raph, Casey and April get into the barn they realize that ONE of them MUST be the creature and they have to figure out who before it attacks the two who are real!
But... maybe there is a good reason for why they chose not to do it that way. Possibly because it's too similar to some past plotlines such as the Wasp episode? Or maybe they just couldn't make it work with the running time they have.
In the end, this episode provides us with some good backstory and history which I love. The action was really strong, but the actual enemy was very "been there done that" as we've already seen quite a few in 2k12 TMNT similar to it.
More interested in the next episode!

Really liked this episode. Too bad April's mom wasn't real, but I'm holding out hope that she's out there somewhere. Loved the cleaning sequence and how Mikey was right all along. The monster was freaky, but I loved the back story about the whole thing. I think the reason they kept coming to the farmhouse was because maybe they didn't know people were getting abducted. Seems to me that April, her mom, and dad lived there and then after the Kraang came after them, April and her dad left for New York. I liked the April/Casey moment, and April's mom calling her dad Kirby isn't really that weird because he is her husband and all. I was freaked out when the Turtles and the others were coming out of the monster, but I liked that April defeated her. I also thought it was cute that Leo stuck his pinky out to drink tea and that Leo and Casey were the ones who were supporting April about not giving up hope. Overall, a pretty decent episode, and Renae Jacobs did a fantastic job. And I'm also loving Seth as Leo since he gets better and better.
As for April being their "mom" that would be a little creepy considering Don's feelings for her. Too bad we have a hiatus now. Hope it's not too long though.

Good episode, though I was really disappointed that they didn't show a heart-to-heart between Mikey and April at the end. I wanted to see her apologize for not trusting his gut feeling; Instead they had him act like a jack-off doing that stupid "I was right." dance. One step forward, two steps back.

I don't recall at any point of Season 2 Leo saying he still had "feelings" for Karai in that sense. A lot of their interaction became solely trying to get Karai to realize who her real father was, once he found out.

And we still don't know who Casey's mom is yet, nor do we know if Kirby is April's bioligical father. I just got this sinking suspicion that Casey's artwork back in the city that is referencing him as Luke and April as Leia in a Starwars pose is a little bit of reference in itself.

If they go about this route, I highly doubt people are going to back it up. They just might leave the show all together. Apritello is a pretty strong driving force for the show right now, and even Nick is admitting that. I'm pretty sure the writers might try things here and there, but Nick execs are going to make sure that their decisions don't deviate from the fan favorite coupling. Why else would they have had that poll up?

I really think what confused everyone with Seth Green's voice wasn't actually Seth's voice, it was Leo sounding tired and beaten up. So when Seth came onto the scene we weren't just getting an entirely new voice but also an entirely new look at Leo, causing double the rift.
Now that Leo's recovering and Seth gets to sound more normal, I think it's a great fit.

Did it?
I don't recall at any point of Season 2 Leo saying he still had "feelings" for Karai in that sense. A lot of their interaction became solely trying to get Karai to realize who her real father was, once he found out.The crush was obviously still there. In Vengeance he was blushing around her. He also became embarrassed when Mikey hit him with the water balloon and attacked him. It pretty much was a parallel to how Raph embarrassed Donnie in front of April in that "Sadorable" ep. The main difference was that Donnie tried talking to Raph as opposed to Leo who attacked Mikey.
Leo still seemed to have some kind of feelings for Karai even at that point.

If it was really her mom after the Krang had experimented on her, that would have been really disturbing.
But it wasn't happily enough. I hope this is the beginning of a new side-story arc where April starts to track down her true mother's whereabouts.

I'm still kinda hoping they reveal that April's mom is a Neutrino. It would explain a lot of her origin.
I loved how creepy it was, especially when Donnie, Leo, and Mikey popped out of April's mom and stuff saying "One of us"...wait, isn't that from that Children of the Corn story or whatever it was called? Pretty sure it was a Stephen King story.
Nope :) The one of us thing comes from a 1930's horror movie called Freaks. A lot of people have referenced it over the years, but they're paying homage to the original. Our TMNT crew really know their horror stuff

Did anyone get a Gravity Falls vibe when the experiment destroyed the laptop. Speaking of Gravity Falls, I expected that thing to tell April that she will meet a fate worse than she could imagine.
I also find it strange that The Kraang froze the experiment because they deemed it too dangerous.

I wonder why if the Kraang felt the experiment was that dangerous, they didn't just destroy it outright?

Yup, though it's kinda different when they actually mean it in regard to someone, not just speaking the word about an inanimate object.
Ok, it's bugging me... I can't recall quite what not-actually-mom said to Mikey in the woods - something about making mom angry? - when she pulled the knife. Was that from Mommy Dearest or something like that? That has got to be from something but having a hard time placing it.

Saw this last night, and...with each passing second, my eyes grew wider. Which is why I absolutely loved it. Favorite part was when the heads of Leo, Donnie, and Mikey stuck out of the thing's neck and started moaning. Seriously, what the hell was I watching? I'm liking that the season's been sticking to a horror theme thus far.
Real talk though: Imitation Mikey was the scariest thing so far in the show.
Those eyes man. Nightmares.

I can't speak for April's mom, since it was explained she was experimented on before April was born. But maybe April might be a neutrino because of the experimentation done on her family.
What I found strange was that we see Mrs. O'Neil as a little girl. So they are essentially saying that farm house is the house that belonged to her family.
But generally when marriage happens the wife takes the husband's sirname. There are however plausible reasons for this.
1. O'Neil I don't know how common that name is, but it could be essentially having someone with the name of Smith marrying someone named Smith.
2. Kirby could have chosen to take his wife's family name.
3. Kirby and Mrs. O'Neil could be very distant relations, such as Franklin Roosevelt and Elinor Roosevelt were 5th cousins when they married.
4. Kirby may in fact may not be April's father. Maybe part of the experimentation was implanting the embryo that would become April in Mrs. O'Neil and Kirby is more of a brother or close male relative of Mrs. O'Neil.

Well, I know that in the Regan Reilly series by Carol Higgins Clark, Regan marries a man named Jack Reilly who isn't related to her at all. Could be that this is what happens here as well. And I thought that little girl was someone else because she had red hair and April's mom is blonde. I'll have to watch the ep again tomorrow and see if I'm right.

So, I heard a lot of people were scared by it..really? I didn't feel scared, it was a great horror-action! I was grinning most of the time.
First of all, I wasn't reading the comments here so far, I only write my thoughts about this episode down.
(I put it in spoilers, so my post isn't so huge)
What I didn't like:
- They didn't trust their own brother? They 'sided' with a person they just met and don't know anything about? Sure, they thought it was her(Aprils) mother and Mikey tends to,well, do and say stupid things..but they could at least have given it a thought. Aprils 'mother' was still a complete stranger to them..Guess I just felt a bit sorry for him..(I do admit, that scene is amusing to a point though.)
- Aprils 'superpowers'. I start to feel more and more 'meh' to them. They come in handy, yes, but feel also a bit..exaggerated?!..perhaps it's just me..
Same with "Oh look! It's xyz-..oh no wait..it isn't...just another alien-thing,my bad."
What I liked:
+ the Turtles and house-cleaning.
+ Mikey and ICK scene! Loved it! The little guy was awesome in this episode again.
+ The scene where Raph fights with 'alien-Leo'. His evil-psychotic smile..just great xD But give that poor guy a rest..still hurt and got beaten up again..
+ Back to Raphael...I liked him a lot in this episode too. Good to see him kicking..stuff again.
+ The ending of the episode was so sweet and touching.
Personal opinion, I don't take guarantee that you'll agree with it. ;D
All in all, a great episode. Looking forward to see the punk-frogs.

Well, I can't watch these with my almost 5 year old daughter anymore the horror themes are genuinely scary for her. Just a bit too much for her, I DON'T want her to have nightmares. So, gonna have to go the way of 4kids first 5 seasons and watch them by myself again until they get a bit more kid friendly.
They really seem to be going down the horror road at the moment , they've effectively replaced the mutant of the week theme with the horror homage of the week now. Seriously, I hope not 'every episode' at the farmhouse is horror related and there are some normalish episodes there. Next week looks like it could be non horrorish but with Dream Beavers around the corner which is pretty much Freddy Kruger voiced by the man himself Robert Englund and god knows what ever horror related mutants are there seems like might have to watch most of them by myself for a while.
I also agree with most posters here we need to see a non turtle episode of what's happening in New York or at least give them half an episode inter-cutting with some down time type story at the farmhouse.

This could be rectified with some cutbacks to New York, I'd say.
But I agree that that's kind of a problem -- not with the farm setting itself, necessarily -- but with it going hand in hand with these "recovery/hiding" arcs that have become a staple of the series. You need a certain amount of stories there to drive home that they're slowly recovering ("Return to New York" in the comics wouldn't work nearly so well without the downtime stories preceding Raph's anger), but at the same time, you're very aware that their function is to, yeah, literally fill space because the redemption arc is just around the corner.

And besides, weren't people hoping before that they could get away from New York for a while? This is the chance to see them get expanded on their characters by being in an unfamiliar environment (countryside.) They are used to cement and city life, but being out in the boonies can hold way different surprises.

Except that it's pretty much the same exact thing and the characters so far haven't changed a bit.
Leo has the most development and it's basically boiled down to he has a new voice and a limp. The AprilTello trash is still where it was in season 1 even. I guess Donatello has gotten more annoying?
It's just disappointing after the S2 finale that it's back to the same stuff. Just with a woodsy coat of paint.

"One of the worst mistakes a storyteller can make is to put the hero in deep jeopardy and then have someone else rescue him.
There should be no luck whatsoever when it comes to the hero saving the day or reaching his goal. It should be the outcome of the character arc. It should be a demonstration and application of all that he has learned, all that he has overcome.
Just as bad as rescuing the hero in these final moments is the inserting of pure coincidence or luck in allowing him to survive or reach his goal. This is known as deus ex machina, which is Latin for “god from a machine,” and it'll get your story rejected faster than misspelling the editor's name in your cover letter." - Larry Brooks
That's why this entire season so far has been awful, and why stuffing April full of convenient powers is preventing her from being a strong female protagonist.

I love the John Carpenter theme in this; the "Halloween 3" pumpkin commercial signal Raph was looking at before he went to the basement, the final monster and the turtles turning in the "The Thing" performances, and then the "They Live" look the mom first showed to Mikey. Horror movies are fun and this one was just a cool send off to one of this genres' movie master.
This is also the perfect month to have episodes like this, it is October after all. I liked the bit of history we got of the O'Neil family, then the original voice of April as the mom:tgrin::tgrin::tgrin:
I like the fact that this one, just like the second episode, felt like it wasn't dealing with too much in its plot like the first one. I am curious at if the turtles are going to learn something from this break from the city. Halloween is my favorite holiday. I know most pick Christmas....but Halloween is more fun for me, so I'm enjoying this horror-homage episodes even if I don't get all of the references.
I still think that this ep that recently aired is an important one. I have this feeling that that Kraang ship is going to eventually become a part of the Turtle Blimp or Donnie is going to do something with the tech there since otherwise everything is very limited for him to work with, and seeing as how they're out in the middle of nowhere, it wouldn't surprise me if internet was very limited there, hence nothing regarding NYC.
I'm looking forward to seeing what they pay homage to next. With me being stuck in Japan for Halloween this year as opposed to going home, due to my missing too much time from work recently, preventing me from taking the vacation I'd already put in to travel home, or to do something interesting and fun (like haunted houses, amusement park, and haunted hay rides), these eps are truly appealing to me and bringing out my Halloween spirit. ^_^

And I also think that the line where April's mom said that Mikey was making her angry was from Mommy Dearest. She was even carrying scissors, so I think that might be a reference to it even though I've never seen said movie. I know it was originally a book first though.

I don't think it's the Northhampton scenery at all, it's just the countless horror rip offs. Some are horror fans, and some of us, like me, aren't. So it's kind of hard to get excited about TMNT when it's being geared around a genre I simply don't give a sh!t about.

I don't dislike Spongebob, but come on. They were having a marathon today for Halloween... let me guess, they're repeating it.
I miss the days when there were actual Halloween specials. I wish the Turtles had one. Like actual Halloween, not just scary themes.

Take out the sponge. Seriously. To quote myself from 15 years ago when my friend and I first found out about Nickelodeon starting a show about this, "It's a damn sponge!" lol
But I will admit, I did see the first season eps, some, and it wasn't so bad. Spongebob wasn't as childlike and came across as an adult (like Rocko) trying to make it on his own while holding down a job and going to school, Patrick wasn't as stupid or braindead, Sandy was an interesting character, etc. Caught a later ep, and it had me scratching my head.
Meh...wish Spongebob didn't own the network. Like I said before, you would've never seen 80s or 90s Nickelodeon focusing on just one show like Nick seems to do now.

I don't think it's the Northhampton scenery at all, it's just the countless horror rip offs. Some are horror fans, and some of us, like me, aren't. So it's kind of hard to get excited about TMNT when it's being geared around a genre I simply don't give a sh!t about.
To be fair, I'm not a horror fan either, and yet despite that, I still am enjoying what we have so far. I guess it's because I can learn of the references without having to watch the movie itself which is fine with me.
And I agree about Spongebob. Let it die already!

Pretty great episode! I love the possessed turtles - they look and move so horrifyingly CREEPY!
And that final boss form with all the heads on it's chest, lol. :tlove::tlol:
Do you think we'll get April's mom as a figure considering we have Kirby? Hmm...

This was a great episode.
Mikey getting bad 'ninja vibes' from MomThing was great. Seeing him sticking with his instincts and taking initiative on checking out MomThing was nice.
That soulless stare of MikeyThing was unsettling. DonThing and LeoThing was creep. And MomThing at the end with the other turtles was just horrifying.
Love the ICK scene to death. :D And Leo holding his pinky out while drinking tea. Nice callback to teatime girl. :)
While it is cute, I don't see why the turtles would sometimes call Mrs. O'Neil 'Mom'. It's not like they called Mr. O'Neil 'Dad'.
Back in 1993 and still today, kids who watched Power Rangers saw a monster devour heroes and their heads appeared on its stomach.
http://statici.behindthevoiceactors.com/behindthevoiceactors/_img/chars/char_59779.jpg
So maybe if they saw that, then they could have handled tonight's episode.Ahhh, that episode! When I was little, this video rental store had a some Power Ranger episodes on VHS. For some reason, I would re-rent the tape with that episode and watch it several times. Still doesn't compare to the creepiness this episode. Actually seeing Casey and Raph get, um, eaten on screen opposed to balls of light, and the faces coming out chanting. OMG. :o
I still think that this ep that recently aired is an important one. I have this feeling that that Kraang ship is going to eventually become a part of the Turtle Blimp or Donnie is going to do something with the tech there since otherwise everything is very limited for him to work with, and seeing as how they're out in the middle of nowhere, it wouldn't surprise me if internet was very limited there, hence nothing regarding NYC.Been thinking the same thing. Since they actually called it a stealth ship, I'm really hoping Don could recover that cloaking tech. Make a Turtle Blimp able to turn invisible. If it actually happens, I swear never to call it a lame ride. He might also salvage some communication tech to listen in on the situation in NY.

What Donnie found in the laptop made it sound like that Mom-Thing was a prototype version of a Kraang spy. Kraang Subprime was probably jealous of the experiment before The Kraang decided to freeze it.
Speaking of Kraang Subprime, I think him being the greatest Kraang spy in dimension X is self proclaimed. If he's the greatest Kraang spy, he should have worn a jacket in a cold weather.

This episode was great with all of the horror references. It had the horror fanatic in me geeking out the whole time. I don't mind filler episodes as long as they add a little something to the overall story or characters the way this one gave us a little more into the O'Neil family history with the Kraang.

This.
Despite any criticism, the show is still a well made series. It's the Turtles... it's cute, often funny, frequently epic, sometimes straight up "whoa," and typically fun either way. Mostly I'm just along for the ride and enjoying it. Not every episode needs to leave a deep, lasting impression with me.

I wish we weren't so critical of the show at times. I think the main problem is that Nick spaces out the air dates so much, that when we don't get something essential, we get angry knowing that the next episode is 3 weeks away.

I'm not saying the show is awful or has gone down the tubes forever. It's just that these last three episode didn't entertain me. It's not that I'm overly critical or some bullcrap. I just didn't like the episodes and I thought they were boring bordering on annoying.

Hey Guys,
I am a lurker here. I tend to read the comments on the new episodes before watching myself a day or two later. The recent comments made me want to share my own input.
The horror movie theme thing? I don't personally enjoy it, and here's why: I want to watch a show about the teenage mutant ninja turtles. I don't want to watch a show which is an homage of half a dozen different horror movies, and be expected to pat the writer on the back for referencing all that stuff.
If they want to throw something in here and there that someone who is a horror movie buff can appreciate and be like “oho how clever!” then great. But right now, this show feels hijacked. It's like the writer of the week's check list, provided by the producer or director, reads as “Create an episode that references horror movies a, b, c, d, and e. If you can throw in movies j and h, then awesome. The show is TMNT. Be sure to read a few transcripts to get a brief feel of how the characters should be. The setting is a farmhouse. No plot development is required.” (And FYI, creating lovely new plot holes is A-okay)
Yeeeahh. I paid money for this season already. Did I mention that? So far, thumbs down for all three episodes here. :( Feel like I wasted money and made a poor decision.
When did it become good writing to have Pizzaface be every episode? That was one of the worst out of season two. :\

Yeah I definitely agree. Referencing things is all right, but referencing them so much that it overshadows everything else in a show that's supposed to stand on its own is a problem. If an episode's main merit is that it references something else, well, the writers completely dropped the ball.
And this isn't limited to other fictional or pop culture references, either. Even making it a point to reference too much from the same franchise or something that came before can hinder a show from reaching its potential. This was one of LoK's (Legend of Korra) problems, constantly needing to reference things from its predecessor every. Single. Episode. and even shoehorning it into its plot, so much so that it drove itself down and didn't reach its potential.
I wish we weren't so critical of the show at times. I think the main problem is that Nick spaces out the air dates so much, that when we don't get something essential, we get angry knowing that the next episode is 3 weeks away.
You can still criticize something and enjoy it. Dislike some aspects of the show and like the thing as a whole.

Let's just hope once Speed Demon shows, it will get back to it's roots and stop all of this horror movie references. I don't mind references here and there (I'm still hoping to see a Goonies episode down the road) but not episode, after episode after episode, all in a row. And why do I have this feeling Speed Demon is going to be beyond stupid and corny as sh!t?
Rukitron
10-19-2014, 10:27 PM
Why I'm having trouble with this season so far:
- No Foot Clan/Shredder (it seems like TMNT can't go on very far without Shredhead)
- 3 months have passed, you think by now the Kraang invasion would have expanded much further.
- 3/4 episodes were like RL Stine children's horror. I don't mind the occasional horror/suspense ep, but c'mon
- April x Casey x Donnie love pizza trouble in every episode. They need to drop this hard.
I mean maybe it's because the new season just started and we'll get the ball rolling soon.
This episode was alright, but I hope it didn't give any kids nightmares.

I wasn't so much going by the synopsis of the episode, but by seeing pics of the Donnie Demon car thing. It looked so damn ridiculous. Couldn't they have made it more creepier, or more sinister instead of so, dumbass looking?
I know this is just so random, but I was watching the Lonely Mutation of Baxter Stockman, and when April was falling into the mutagen, with Donnie being the last organic creature to touch her before she fell in, were people expecting her to become Venus, if just for a second?

I admit I kinda was. And then get turned back real soon after. Little disappointed it didn't affect her. lol
That could have worked for some depth though, Donnie having to accept that he has to cure her, it can't be taken as fate as a way of getting the girl.

No they didn't. In The Invasion. Donnie had to leave him behind and said they return some day if not he will defrost in 70 years.
I don't know what it is...but ever since the finale of season 2 I'm not really enjoying this anymore. For me personally the finale was disappointing (except for the focus on Leo, Shredder and Splinter) as they focused way too much on the Kraang. Leo's part was over too soon and seeing him fight against Footbots wasn't really interesting. (Would have been better if they were human opponents)
For the season 2 finale I can say, less Kraang and more Leo and Shredder. Still had a few great moments though.
===
As for season 3, I don't know, but something is missing. It's focusing again on mutants/monsters of the week, something I had hoped we would see less in season 3.
Aside from some good moments (like the little bit of Casey/Leo bonding, although at the expense of Big Foot), I'm not feeling it right now, I'm just disappointed so far.
Seth Green's Leo is good though, he seems to have found his stride in the third episode.

Seems to me like April's powers come out during moments of stress or when she's really in peril. First time it happened in "Kraang Conspiracy" was when she was strapped to that table and Raph was being held by the Kraang. In this episode all of the Turtles plus Casey were in danger and April didn't want to go with her mom, so that's what triggered her powers. Or, as someone else said, maybe it only works around the Kraang.

Something like such a small simple misunderstanding is too miniscule IMO. I think the EPF should be a more menacing force than that, less interested in the New York mutants as sentient beings and more interested in capturing and testing on them.

I think it's more likely that the show would treat EPF as allies at first to destroy the Kraang. Then when the Kraang are gone, the show does the swerve and has EPF attempt to eliminate all things that the Kraang affected. Mainly April & The Turtles.
Also I saw some people state why The Kraang would be concerned with the Mom experiment being too dangerous. I kinda thought that was pretty obvious personally.
April is the only person on the planet they could use to achieve their goal of perfecting the mutagen to then obtain their other goals. The Kraang aren't trying to kill April, they're trying to capture her. They need her alive, meaning that anything that could ultimately endanger the life of April O'Neil would be deemed to dangerous to the mission of her capturing.

I noticed it's always when she's under duress and stress whenever the Kraang are involved. There has to be a connection there. In Target April O'Neil, she didn't go into super pyschic power mode or whatever. She was just caught by the Footbots and Karai.
IMO, I feel that April always has this power, but it will only be effective on the Kraang or anything connected or associated with them.

Maybe Kraang Prime did something unintentionally that brought out this hidden power. Remember how he was sucking away April's mental energy? Well maybe that cause a telepathic link to the kraang and the kraang themselves are a hive mind so if April is link to Kraang Prime then she is connected to all kraang.

What I was meaning is much like the Kraang detected the power cell in the pulverizer. Perhaps the Kraang would be able to detect that abandoned ship had been activated and think.

Ok that 's probably going to happen. It more of a justified excuse to have an action pack scene of them leaving the farm and when they have no where else to go, it will be the motivation that they need retake the city but only after making a quick pit stop to have that Splinter campfire scene.

I don't find April's backstory (or powers, for that matter) remotely interesting, so hopefully they just pull a Zuko's mom and leave Mrs. O'Neill's fate a mystery. I still feel that Seth's voice is a bit too deep and miss the dorkiness of Biggs's acting, but I do love his acting. Mom Thing was incredibly creepy and gross. When her head split in half I was grossed out, but in a good way. Very holiday appropriate. By the way, I would have loved that scene if I was 10, for those who are saying it would have scared the younger viewers.
I'm not even going to comment on the romance. April's character is hopeless to me now. Again, no need to look for April's mother. They should use that time to find Karai and the real Irma. 7/10.

That could very well be. Nice theory.

Is anyone else excited for the possible return of the Punk Frogs? I really hope that is where they are headed with that final scene.

No. I hated them in the OT, and I dislike Napoleon Dynamite, so I have like, no interest in this next episode at all. I might catch it if I hear that it's really good, but other than that, I don't think I would care if I missed it or not.

Finally got round to watching this last night. The Thing is one of my favourite films of all time, so naturally I highly appreciated it being used as the basis for this episode. Big thumbs up for that.
This episode actually made me feel like it would scare the living **** out of most little kids watching it though. :P
Renae Jacobs was great and I actually really liked Seth Green's performance this time around. Maybe it's because I'm slowly getting used to his voice or maybe it's because he didn't use his Chris Griffin voice as much this time, y'all know the one I mean. :P His simple, straightforward deep voice is much more suitable for Leonardo.
Really excited to see what they do with the frogs, I always enjoyed them in the 80s show.
This is by far my favourite episode of this season so far. I do wish they'd get back to the main plot however.

I don't want to upset any people here, but does anyone think that we take this show too seriously? I mean, I'm on a star wars forum and all we do is laugh and talk about how fun the episodes are for the new show, and the show is on par with nick turtles. People here just complain. Like I said, I don't want to upset anyone.

So....People are taking it too seriously because they acknowledge things they don't like??

Not entirely, there are people on here that act like some problems on the show are complete dealbreakers for them and that everyone else should treat them as such, and then still tune in next episode.
That is taking something too seriously, because it's clearly not serious enough to cease their viewing, despite their constant ranting of it. (I.E. Seth Green as Leonardo/Writing of Raphael)
But who knows anymore...

And who here has been acting like that? Cybercubed is about the only guy that constantly whines and cries that the sky is falling.
Or have we gotten to the point where criticism of the show in any form is frowned upon?

Nah, I'm just saying that the atmosphere is different over on that forum rather then here.
The show has its problems, but I really think that we obsess over tiny details a lot.

Well, this one comes to mind after the Season 3 premiere.
So pretty much, if you're a Raphael fan then the episode is yet again Another Middle Finger to Raphael fans...despite all of the people on this board who kept telling & posting to me in comments to 'just wait, just wait, just wait'...and it's just 'Raph gets turned into a flower'. That's it for him.
Yep. Bravo. I wonder how many episodes it Will take folks on here to realize the bull going on with how they're using/treating certain characters like Raph on this show...and how they will do Nothing with him but crap like this. Nah, he can't be a badass. This week we turn him into a flower and give him nothing else for him to do...congrats.
And which he responded very next comment saying he hadn't even seen the episode yet...
Actually, I didn't see the episode. And yeah, I know people will whine about that.
But here's the thing...as a Raphael fan, why should I? When someone I know sees it and says "All Raph does is turn into a flower, and does nothing else. He's absent for most of the episode" and once again showed that he's a Useless character...and No One disagreed with that statement on the boards, then it tells the whole thing for me.
I'm not watching the show until they give Raphael something to actually Do and stop treating him like he's a pointless character who seems completely useless to the team. I'd love for that to happen, I really would.
When someone comes up to me and says 'hey, in this episode they did Raph Justice'...whether by treating him like a badass again or as a worthy character, then I'll give the show a look again.
So this. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's uninformed/misinformed opinions...

....Like? I'm seriously curious.
Most here are talking about the lameness of the past three episodes and how April has become deus ex machina in human form. It's not like people are complaining about Raph's sai handles being the wrong shade of red.

I do feel that some people are overly critical, especially those who nitpick over stuff they should know won't change by now, like romance stuff. It's annoying to see people complain over it, especially since, in my opinion, it's easy to ignore since it's never the main focus of the episodes.

Except in the big foot episode where it was half of the episode and accomplished nothing?
Come on guys. It's starting to come off to me like 'Hey! Love it or Leave it pal!'

I feel for people when something seems to be a big letdown for them. Partly I wonder if the movie debating got everyone into that mode, or if it was already this way before I ventured into online-fan territory.

Come on guys. It's starting to come off to me like 'Hey! Love it or Leave it pal!'But usually it isn't is what I'm saying. There are eps that do focus on it, the Bigfoot ep and the Ho Chan one, but other eps it's usually comedic and just reminding folks it exists, like this recent ep. Very beginning, nothing much after that as it wasn't the plot or focus or plot catalyst of the ep.
Some would still complain
Edit: oh yeah in my original post I meant to write "usually never". Sorry for the mix up.

I totally agree. When I see some episodes, I'm smiling like an idiot the entire time and can't wait to see what other people think about it online, and then I come here and everyone is complaining about it!
The show can't please everyone. People say now that Raph gets no attention but then if he suddenly gets a lot of great episodes, people will say the show is paying him too much attention! TMNT fans are never happy.
Sure, the show has its problems, but I still find that overall it is still amazing. Picking out every negative thing has no benefit to the show - I don't think the show writers check this site regularly for what the demographic they aren't even targeting has to say about the show. All the complaining only taints the memory of the episode (I only absolutely hate the episodes Pizza Face and Chinatown Ghost Story but it seems it's a rarity here for people to like an episode lately, mainly because they point out all the bad and ignore the good).
I've actually considered leaving the site before because it's just so negative. Other TMNT sites are a lot more positive about the show.
I guess I'm just an outlier, because this exact thing happened to me with the 2014 movie. I feel like I'm the only one in the world who loved it.

People wouldn't be complaining as much if it was written well....but it isn't...so it's annoying to watch it.....it's annoying to be reminded every episode it exists and it's annoying to have full episodes dedicated to it. :ohwell:

Agreed.
I like the show as a whole most of the time but the Donatello relationship stuff has been so poorly handled and lame. It's made me dislike the Donatello character in recent episodes which is a shame since I liked him a lot in season one. I just get bored because practically anything that comes out of his mouth is April related and it's like "Is that all?"
But I guess I'm 'nitpicking' now.
