I realize that a lot of people are disappointed in the quality of Jim Lawson's art. Well, a lot of people have told me that my style of art greatly resembles Eastman and Laird's style from the early 80's. If you guys like, I'd be willing to re-draw a page or more from TMNT Vol. 4, depending on the level of my own satisfactory, and the response I get from it here. What I want is from you all is for you guys to decide on a page that you'd like me to draw. The page that gets requested the most will be re-drawn. :D Any takers?

Here are a couple samples of my work, which are already dated.

This is probably not going to be a popular opinion.

If you're going to do that, I don't think you should share it publically. It just doesn't seem kosher to me, and I don't think I should have to say why.

But, by all means, do it for yourself as drawing practice.

*woohoo* LeSean!

You should give it a shot, Elite5Raph. It's always interesting to compare works, and note the distinct differences between artists. I'd honestly just pick a page at random, for curiousity's sake.

awsome art. Id like to sugest a page from issue 4, don't have a number yet, but it the one with 6 turtles (whom are really robo simulations) on it.

Hey I remember you showing us those pics in the chat room awhile back, Raph. Glad to see you're sharing it with the forum!

Actually, man, if you're willing to do redraws of whole pages or more from issues that already exist, I'd recommend that you make your own original comic.

Your art is obviously awesome, and a fan run comic would be pretty cool.

Nice work EliteRaph. I would like to see some more of your work. Very nice. And yes the TD does have a lot of artists.

I agree with the notion of a fan comic. You have impressive art skills and it would be nice to see as well.

Totally agree with this line of thought. Not wise to post it publically here, since it'll pretty much consitute as being a direct copy off professional art. Just to keep this place from getting into any more hot water.

Other than that, do whatever floats your boat. Though... if I were you, I prolly would put my efforts into a more original TMNT fan-comic, than duplicate someone's elses.

Could I get into trouble for this? As far as I knew, it was okay to do things of this sort so long as I wasn't making a profit.

It would qualify as a "derivative work", which is an infringement and violation of the existing copywrite.

Then again fan fiction and as far as I'm aware, most fan art qualifies as derivative works as well.

But then again, it seems that Mirage Studios tolerates, if not encourages fan art (Note: The Art Contest on ninjaturtles.com)

You'll likely not get into legal issues, though this may be considered a matter of taste to some. Copying an artist's work to the tee with intentions to publish it isn't necessarily tasteful.

I'd personally love to see you draw a whole fan NEW comic like Turtle Turncoat by Tony Day, ( http://www.btinternet.com/~general_zod/turtles.web ) You have the talent ;)

I believe its ok as long as you make sure to say who the orginal artist was, and the companys name, and you cant sell it.
thats all I know.

True. The rest of Mirage could care less about what we do as far as fan works go. But Peter Laird seems much more strict about what people say or do with *his* comic... so, just to be on his good side....

I haven't got much knowledge of the rules about these kind of things, but I don't see why it would be any trouble just to redraw one single page, as long as it stays with that...

Legal matters are not why I voiced my concern.

I just think it'd be impolite.

If I were the original artist and someone did that to my own work, I wouldn't apreciate it.

Of course, I suspect that most people won't care about my opinion. Whatever.

Yeah... it's kinda like with Calvin and Hobbes, a comic I loved dearly. Then some auto sticker manufacturer has someone redraw Calvin pissing on a Ford/Chevy symbol. Ugh... talk about making the creator roll over in his grave.

I dunno, I guess I don't believe in dissing other artists either.

But... I gues if you were out to impress, and trying to get a job working for so-and-so with so-and-so comic, then I'm not against that thinking. Except that I don't thnk Laird or Mirage is hiring though... *shrug*
