Who else is a fan of Next Mutation?

I started watching this on the Hub and when they cancelled it I started watching the rest of it on netflix. It's cool as a alternate continuation of TMNT3. So anyone else like the series?

It's an odd thing that I've softened up to. It's pretty bad, but it's really enjoyable and the villains are sweet.

Bad: cheesy sound effects, cheesy fights, low budget that made it power rangers bad, and Mary Sue fifth turtle that overpowered the original four in a few second off-screen fight, and defeated the shredder with a mind trick.

I find it's hokeyness amusing. Kabillion via my 'on demand' with Comcast/Xfinity usually has some episodes available, so I'd been checking it out on there.

I agree. I liked the show when I was 12 because I only saw the good points. I also liked that it was loosely based on the films. A few people at school liked the show and preferred it over the 1987 cartoon. I watched the first two episodes a year ago and I thought that the good was far outweighed by the bad. It is entertaining to watch at times, but it's not as good as I remembered it. The bad acting put me off watching another episode.

It's easier to watch it now for me than it was back then. I was a Freshman in high school when that show came out. Me and all my buddies were SO pumped that TMNT was going to carry on in some fashion. Keep in mind, we hadn't had a movie for a couple years with none on the way, the cartoon was winding down, the Archie book was cancelled... Next Mutation, based on just still photos and descriptions, sounded pretty spiffy. We were all set to go.

...After the first episode, and ever since, I'm the only one of that particular group that still kept up with TMNT other than watching the first movie occasionally. My friends all decided, on that day, they were "too old for this sh*t," and never looked back. I mean, we used to make masks out of construction paper and run around the backyard acting out the movies and sh*t. It was important to us. Suddenly, TMNT was "corny". That stung. I've tried to get a couple of them back into it, and a few of them saw the new movie, but they all admit they don't much care anymore. They're still into other cartoons and comics and stuff, but they've never been able to shake off that sour taste from TNM. :ohwell:

So, I have a bit of a distaste for it in general. But watching it now, years later, many years removed from that heartbreak, it's much easier to just write it off as one of the goofier versions of TMNT and accept it for what it is and see the good in it. If it really had been the last TMNT project ever and we hadn't gotten so much good stuff since, I'd still be bitter, but it's much easier to swallow now. It has its moments. I picked it up as soon as it came out on DVD, mostly because my wife had never seen it. I can laugh at stuff now that, back then, just made me go, "Oh, man, so it's come to THIS." :lol:

It's definitely not really very good but it's gotten more hate than it deserves, I think. Especially Venus. Really bad execution, really unnecessary idea, BUT, I swear there's ways to make that idea work and they just picked the wrong one. There's a lot of that in TNM. Okay ideas they didn't have time, writers, or budget to properly execute. But they tried. I don't think they had enough to work with but they did okay with what they had, which honestly wasn't much.

By far the worst adaption of Turtles whether comics, live action, cartoon, tv, movie, etc.... Horrible, horrible show. I was a HUGE turtles fan growing up and even I quit watching after a few episodes as a kid. It was painful to try and sit through.

It's own villians and allies. A twist on the story but still keeping true to the movies. I loved it all. I don't understand why it's the general consensus that this was supposed to be some dark gritty show and that it sucks because it wasn't.

The villains were great, had some of the best archs within the franchise with unchain my heart. There's just so much good in this series. And it comes no where near the crap we got in the 2014 film and 2012 series!!!!

I wonder if people will view the new movie in the same light 15-20 years later

I got excited when Saban released the two volumes on DVD. I guess that says something there lol. So yes; I am a fan of the Next Mutation and I remember that day when I was about 10/11 years old, excited and anxiously waiting for it to come on.

Yeah, that bothered me at the time too. I hated Power Rangers, so seeing TMNT go that route was not at all what I wanted to see at that point in time.

Like I said, I've warmed up to it since then, but at the time, I detested it.

It was extremely cheesy (not the good kind, either), only had a few good jokes, obviously catered to the younger crowd, yeah, there's a reason it never lasted more than a season. I can see why people like it though :P

Did the Power Rangers phenomenon even last for long? Because I was in elementary school when PR were on and I don't really recall other kids talking about it much. Most talked about Pokémon, some Cartoon Network cartoons of the time like Johnny Bravo, Dexter's Lab, etc. and EVERYONE was obsessed with DBZ.

I had a green PR as a kid, but don't recall ever watching a single episode of the show.

Power Rangers just looked corny and cheap to me even as a little kid. The cartoons of my childhood are Cartoon Network's classics from Hanna-Barbera stuff to 90s stuff such as Johnny Bravo and Dexter's Lab. And, ofc, the original NT cartoon(re-runs).

I dont see why anyone would think Next Mutation was supposed to be gritty or dark, it was a kids show that came on Fox's block for kids. It was just a horrible show with horrible costumes, horrible dialogue, and horrible story. It was utter ****.

Your last line just blows my mind tho. I dont see how anyone could prefer Next Mutation over the new movie, thats insane to me. To each their own I guess tho.

It was okay, the biggest downside is of course that it tried to be Power Rangers, the same way 2k14 turtles wants to be Transformers. I wasn't really a power rangers fan, I might have seen most of the first season before I considered myself too old to watch any more. I didn't like Next Mutation much when it came out a few years after that, but now that I have the DVDs and watched through the series a year or two ago, it's not that terrible. I consider it the worst of the 4 TV series, but not bad enough that it's not worth watching.

I've never been a huge fan of Next Mutation, but I was watching it earlier tonight on Netflix with my nephew and he seemed to be enthralled by it.

I've always felt like the budget was notoriously low, the costumes ridiculously cheap, and some of the storylines were a bit odd.

But I did enjoy watching Master Splinter play a heated game of chess with Morgan Freeman :)
