So, Nickelodeon's annual Upfront announcements were today.

http://www.nickandmore.com/2015/02/25/nickelodeon-upfront-2015/

Nothing too interesting except one little thing that jumped out at me:

Announcements at the presentation included: Noggin, a mobile subscription service for preschoolers; numerous new content innovations; a sneak peek at a potential SpongeBob SquarePants Broadway musical; future spinoff possibilities for the wildly successful Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise; and Nickelodeon Sports, which brings content from the major sports leagues to Nick’s platforms.

Nickelodeon is in the planning stages of a potential TMNT spin-off series. :o

I sure hope it's this, rather than a Bayturtles 2D series (though that could be decent if it were created by anyone other than those who worked on the universe it's based on).

Ah, was gonna come post about it, but glad someone got that up. I hope Nick means more Turtles after their current series wraps up. Would be very good to know they have no plans to just shelve them afterward.

Although "Spongebob musical" may give me bad dreams... lol

IF they ever did a 2D series of these newest movie Turtles, then I hope they choose an art style that is very good. I've seen some good would-be examples online from fans and whatnot, and some other stuff...not so much.

It could be an OT revival/reboot/continuation or something, too.

I'll be down for it. I wouldn't mind an 11 minute type dealie like Teen Titans Go that's more comedic, that way they don't have to worry about continuity and make jokes about all the different incarnations and whatnot. Again, like Teen Titans Go.

Maybe it's a prequel series where we see life and times with the Turtles as children. Kinda like how Muppet Baby's was a spin off based of one scene from Muppet's take Manhattan.

Why would they do that? This isn't Twin Peaks where they can announce a continuation over twenty years later, a revival of the Fred Wolf TMNT would just appeal to a niche group over the age of thirty.

I thought about this too given how frequently the old voice actors are being brought back. But then again would they really make a 2D animated TMNT cartoon when the Nick show is all CG?

Unless they revive the OT in CG too...and meh I wouldn't want that.

What about a spinoff where each of the TMNT have there own miniseries?
Or continuing Turtles Forever?

The Nick TMNT show doesn't do as well ratings wise as it used to so I don't think a spinoff is a good idea. Usually only shows with high ratings can afford a spinoff.

That'd be cool. Though I couldn't see it being an ongoing kind of thing - another one-off crossover movie could be a lot of fun, though.

I sure hope it's this, rather than a Bayturtles 2D series (though that could be decent if it were created by anyone other than those who worked on the universe it's based on).

I think (or like to think?) that Half-Shell Heroes makes more sense as they're pushing that toy line quite a bit... And if I heard correctly, the movie toys weren't exactly a runaway success, right? (Can't verify that information, mind you - just heard a few comments along that line!)

I'd think it'd also be confusing to have the regular Nick series and one based on the movie running at the same time, but there's nothing to say "spin-off possibilities" means another weekly cartoon series, necessarily.

If it's a Mighty Mutanimals series with Leatherhead/Newtrailizer/Slash/etc.

I'd be interested to see this as a miniseries/limited thing. I'm not convinced that a spin-off like this really has the potential to last long, though... People like the secondary TMNT characters, but they're probably not popular or "known" enough to support their own ongoing series.

Well it could be a series where the Turtles are older and takes place after the first show has ended. Maybe it'll feature an older April and Casey, too. But whatever they do, I'm excited to see how they do it and if the same crew who does the current show will be part of it. If they are, then I'm down for it.

To me, a spin-off would be a continuation of characters already established in the Nick show.

Most of the ideas posted in here would just be different versions of TMNT.

So a Mighty Mutanimals series would work, Given the number of Mutants that's been on the show so far.

I know there might be a bit of a dinosaur frenzy after Jurassic World comes out, so seeing a bunch of Triceraton heavies with BFGs clomping about would look pretty darn cool. They're going to need a credible threat anyway after Shredder and co. kick the bucket, and this could be a way to go about it.

Half-Shelled Heroes seems very likely.

Folks thinking the spin-off would be darker than the current show are probably barking up the wrong tree. Though a series based on the movie universe done similar to Avengers Assemble or the upcoming Guardian's of the Galaxy series certainly is not out of the question.

I expect at least one of the spin-off's under consideration to be something along the lines of Teen Titans Go where action, adventure and story take a back-seat to comedy. That could be Half-Shelled Heroes but I would hope Half-Shelled Heroes would be more akin to the Super Hero Squad Show where it can focus on story but is light in tone and more appropriate for young viewers.

Mighty Mutanimals is great for the comics but they'd have to do a much more affordable to produce show for Mutanimals than the current CGI Turtles. This could be a spring board for a more comedic light show as well that uses Slash as the grumpy straight man and the turtles occasionally cameo.

Someone over at Viacom certainly has interest in the 80s turtles, hence the many cameos and the retro merchandise so I would not put it beyond them to consider doing some shorts or a DTV for the 80s TMNT, another Turtles Forever type thing perhaps.

Let's just hope they don't ruin the narrative of the current show with whatever they intend to do on top of it.

Yeah, they already have the toy line in place for such a show so that seems likely. Can't say I'd be excited for such a thing, I definitely can't see myself tuning in weekly for it.

Hopefully it's something everyone can enjoy, but I don't care what it is as long as it helps the main show stay on the air longer.

More then likely. They are already bringing in the old VAs for the rumored OT crossover, which is the 'big thing' they intended to do when the show was at it's end. Since they often do everything a year (or a Season) in advance, Season 4 is probably the last season.

Is there any proof of that? Not being a jerk, just curious where you heard this from. Considering they're thinking spin-off it would seem odd that the series would be near an end unless, like most folks are saying, it's a Half-Shell series.

I'd be really surprised if the show ends that soon. It's still quite popular, it's responsible for bringing TMNT back into the public consciousness in a big way (and has sold a lot of merchandise branded on the show), and was even nominated for a freakin' Emmy. It just strikes me as weird timing to cancel the show and potentially launch a different one while the property's still riding high and there's still plenty of gas in the tank, so to speak. It almost feels like, what if they cancelled the OT in 1991 and launched an entirely new show? I can't imagine why they'd do that.

Then again - logic and Hollywood don't always go hand-in-hand.

Basically to leave people wanting more, but dropping it before people get 'TMNT fatigue' and then have to shelve TMNT for a while. I don't know if this is their plan personally, but since they have another movie coming up, they might be doing this to keep interest from dying off, so as to deliver profits for the 2nd movie when it comes out.

That they will not cancel the show or end it but whlie they will continue it at the same time they will start a totaly new one so we will have two tmnt shows running at the same time the current one and the new one... The show is not ending. I don't know why you keep posting this over and over again. You're literally pulling things out of thin air.I am not pulling it out of thin air. I know I could easily be wrong, but based on them only having only 20 episodes next season and I have heard through this place with Ciro said he might want to do with TMNT, this is why I keep thinking this.

Here is the basis for why I feel this way: A way to tell that producers try to continue a show for a long time is that they will frequently try to put the villain 'on ice,' to keep the good guys from finishing him up too soon. In the 80's cartoon they would send the Technodrome somewhere just out of reach (deep inside the Earth, somewhere in Dimension X, the Arctic) so that he could always come back and be a continual threat. In the 2k3 show they sort of did this too early on, often using one of these as a springboard to tell another part of the overall story.

I don't see them doing this much with 2k12 Shredder. They are blazing through their major plot points now after his trip to Japan, after having taken things slow and easy before (waiting around half a season to do anything with the Karai revelation) and now showing Irma's being a bot, Karai's mutation, invasion of New York, feeling to N. Hampton, return to New York, mutation of Bebop and Rocksteady, taking back New York, permanent removal of the Kraang, etc. Ciro has said that he has a planned ending for TMNT, and based on how many seasons they are projected to get, will 'tweak' and pad out the story to stretch it out longer. If they intended to keep it going for a while, there would be long spaces between these points, having several encounters with the plot point critter before they finally got rid of it. These points are getting shorter and shorter, with a new plot resolution almost every few weeks now.

My impression is that they are trying to get this stuff resolved quickly, so they have wrapped everything up by the time the show ends.

Given that the movie franchise is also continuing no way will Nick not have the cartoon running when new movies are still hitting theaters.Having movies coming out doesn't mean anything for a particular show to remain on the air. They have had 4 Transformers movies come out, and they started, ran and ended about 2 Transformers shows since then. They might have a TMNT show on air, but it doesn't mean it will be 2k12.

victory_angel

I don't think we are saying goodbye to the series just because we have 20 episodes. It may just mean they can only budget 20 episodes that particular season. If they can tack non six more, People have pointed out there are some episode series have have lessened. And Legend of Korra was able to have successful seasons that were on average 13 episodes long. But since things are getting darker with the series we are not going to turn to filler because things will be more intense.

If the Shredder is defeated in this season...that doesn't mean he's dead. It just makes room for the Turtles to think everything is finally over...oh wait no we have Bishop to deal with.

Kraang returned to Dimension X , great lets Party...wait no....bring on the Triceratons.

Triceraton's are gone...what Shredder's back when did this happen? Where ever he went he's been eating his Wheaties.

Or maybe Titanus becomes a major threat. Savantei Ramero and time traveling. We've seen an easter egg of old hob so maybe Old hob appears in the nick show or Virminator X. So there are still plenty of stories and plot lines that could be covered. Heck same as it never and good genes could stretch out and entire season if done right.

20 episode seasons is the norm for a lot of shows. By cutting off 6 episodes it saves them 6 episodes of production costs and theoretically reduces 6 episodes of potential filler.

Ciro also said he'd like to make at least 5 seasons, so I don't know why you think four would be the end.

. If they intended to keep it going for a while, there would be long spaces between these points, having several encounters with the plot point critter before they finally got rid of it. These points are getting shorter and shorter, with a new plot resolution almost every few weeks now.

Shredder's likely sticking around for the entire run of the show, they're not blazing through plot points when they can bring in tons of new ideas down the pipleline. Triceratons, Hun, Bishop, time travel with Renet and Savanti, there's a lot more to be done.

Even if that were the case, I highly doubt Nickelodeon would commit a series over a bunch of characters who were created as parodies of the Justice League. They don't even have a large rogues gallery.

A Mutanimals or Half Shell Heroes spin off series seems more likely than the JF.

Between Mutanimals and Half-Shell Heroes? I think HSH is the more logical choice, honestly. It'd be interesting to see them expand the Nick series' world and I'd be interested to see what a Nick Mutanimals show would be (even though I'm kind of tired of the excessive number of mutants on the show). But a show aimed at younger kids would still feature the most popular characters, would likely be cheaper to produce, and would help introduce the franchise to kids who might be considered "too young" for the regular series (and potentially help wean them onto the main show when they're a few years older).

They're not giving a character their own spinoff. It would most likely be Half-Shell Heroes ala Teen Titans Go...a small comedy series aimed at pre-school kids.
Of course they're not going to give a single character a spin-off, that implies there's any interesting characters.
gpaOy8b8X6A
I'm exaggerating of course but I don't believe any of the characters (at least the way Nickelodeon depicts) are interesting enough in their own right for a spin-off.

Menstruation and high school drama.
How can you make a show about someone on the rag all the time?

bit of a long shot but it could sorta be a reboot-continuation of the 03
Well I think we all have to accept that once a reboot has happened, we're not getting a continuation of the previous show.

Although, you can take comfort in that the incarnations after the 4Kids show have and will continue to have varying levels of similarity to it.

Even if that were the case, I highly doubt Nickelodeon would commit a series over a bunch of characters who were created as parodies of the Justice League.Well they commited to a series based off a Daredevil parody.

I'd quite like the spin off to be an actual series of Space Heroes...

Well they commited to a series based off a Daredevil parody.

You're over looking two things:

1) Outside of the 4Kids series, they haven't play a major role in the franchise
2) The Turtles have way more rogues in their gallery than the JF have shown to have. Not to mention that TMNT has had tons of different versions in its history that they can pull to make a new spin on their story. The Justice Force do not have that.

I wouldn't want to see the Justice Force in the Nick show. I hated them in 2K3 and always thought they were useless and uninteresting. I think an Usagi spin off would be cool but as Nick doesn't have the rights to him, that won't happen. A Space Heroes spin off would be hilarious, but it would get boring without the Turtles there unless they have the Turtles appear at the end of the episode or something.

Honestly don't see how they can go ahead with as a spin off since noone is really worthy of their own show.

Whaaa....? :-? A "spin-off" series either mean the Nick show is more successful than I thought (where the criteria for a "success" is different than what I expected), or they are hoping to revitalize the TMNT franchise in some way where some character(s) has/have found a high interest with the kids.

...But the question is, who or what, is going to be "spun off"? :-?

Does anybody have the stats on what are the Top 10 most successful TMNT figures (within the Nick series) in the past 1-2 years or so? It could provide a hint on which of those character(s) could have their own spinoff.

The ignore feature is pretty pointless when you still have the option to view person's post. If it totally removed his post from my seeing it Id be fine with him staying.

Then don't reply. Don't comment. Just skip over it to the next one. Is it really that hard? Do you really need an extra 'ignore button' to see 'oh wait... it's that orokusaki guy again' and just go to the next guy/gal's post?

I usually breeze people's posts and go for the longer detailed ones that usually have interesting points on the topic at hand. I don't pay mr 'i'm the real shredder that jumped out of the cartoon and writes on a forum about the cartoon I came from' much mind.

Relating much more to the IDW comics but how about a "Vader and Son" type thing? "Karai's Grampa Shredder".

This is pretty cool, hope it happens. If it's really a spin-off in the same universe then it will benefit the lore of the show even if it's cancelled shortly. If it's a comedy oriented show a la TTG etc. not related continuity wise would be even more awesome but I fear that might become more popular than the actual show and kill the idea of an action oriented turtles show.

I hope the spin-off isn't a Mutanimals thing. I don't think the group could hold their own show.

Maybe it will be an "Agents of Shield" type of show with Bishop and his crazy sidekicks: Rook and Knight

A Mutanimals spin-off doesn't need to be a permanent show, they can start it off as something like a 13 episode mini-series.

Basically picking up right where "The Invasion" left off when The Kraang took over and the Turtles left the city and ending where "Battle For New York" starts. Cause the one thing people complained about in the beginning of Season 3 was "What's going on in New York?", this would help answer that. Plus with 13 episodes, you could alternate watch Mutanimals episode 1, then Season 3 Episode 1 of Turtles, and swap to and forth until you got to Battle For New York.

Plus, if the show was popular enough, then they could start a new adventure after "Battle For New York".

Does Nick even have the budget willing to spend on an entirely separate show with the same quality of CG animation as the regular TMNT show? Nick TMNT is costly to produce 26 episodes a year, imagine double that a year...

Going by the Toy Fair unveilings, I'd say the spin-off/companion series will be a Halfshell Heroes series to air on Nick Jr.

Think Paw Patrol replaced with TMNT and no meetings at HQ before emergency rescues. It could be a real hoot!

So basically a Superhero Squad type show for TMNT.

This might be more of a fanfic idea rather than something that would be used but it's possible that the spin-off is a next generation type deal, as far as I know, it hasn't been officially done 4 the franchise yet and w/ all the romantic setups Nick is pushing, they might be going that route

Powder
04-17-2015, 03:35 AM
Next generation meaning what? They're gonna create a second team of TMNT to take the reigns of their predecessors, who are... still teenagers? Dafuc? They'd have to be pretty stupid to try & pull a stunt like that.

Disney Princess Raphael solo show.

Wearing a princess gown complete with tiara and fairy wings, watch as Raph summon pigeons in NYC. His adventure includes beating the crap out of hobos into pulps whilst singing lullabies with his charming nightingale-like voice. Joining him will be none other than Casey Jones.

Obvious choices:

Mutanimals

Casey Jones solo show

Kiddy show

Replacement show

Crazy choices:

Live-Action show

A wild reimagining

Replacement show based on IDW's comics (kinda want that though)

But don't we have 2k3 cartoon as well on Nick (I don't have it here yet(?)). Now another spinoff?

A bit oversaturated with TMNT isn't it, 3 shows at the same time? Not really complaining... more turtles, the better.

Nick bought TMNT to have a superhero universe. And seeing how it's been getting renewed and the toys selling... I can see something like a 2d halfshell or cgi mutanimals show.

Now that we know Animated Adventures has been cancelled & that there is a new Nick inspired comic on the way, do you think the two could be connected? What if we're getting The Mighty Mutanimals from this show in comic form? Whatever it is, I have a feeling the new book will relate to the new show.

That makes more sense if, The Mighty Mutanimals from Nick get its own Animated Adventure Comic, But then you also have the version that's currently on IDW, But as a miniseries.
