Possible Spin-Off Series on the Horizon?

So, Nickelodeon's annual Upfront announcements were today.

http://www.nickandmore.com/2015/02/2...-upfront-2015/

Nothing too interesting except one little thing that jumped out at me:

Quote:
Announcements at the presentation included: Noggin, a mobile subscription service for preschoolers; numerous new content innovations; a sneak peek at a potential SpongeBob SquarePants Broadway musical; future spinoff possibilities for the wildly successful Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise; and Nickelodeon Sports, which brings content from the major sports leagues to Nick’s platforms.
Nickelodeon is in the planning stages of a potential TMNT spin-off series.

Could this also refer to a Turtles Forever-type project?

I sure hope it's this, rather than a Bayturtles 2D series (though that could be decent if it were created by anyone other than those who worked on the universe it's based on).

Ah, was gonna come post about it, but glad someone got that up. I hope Nick means more Turtles after their current series wraps up. Would be very good to know they have no plans to just shelve them afterward.

Spoiler:
Although "Spongebob musical" may give me bad dreams... lol

IF they ever did a 2D series of these newest movie Turtles, then I hope they choose an art style that is very good. I've seen some good would-be examples online from fans and whatnot, and some other stuff...not so much.

It could be an OT revival/reboot/continuation or something, too.

I'll be down for it. I wouldn't mind an 11 minute type dealie like Teen Titans Go that's more comedic, that way they don't have to worry about continuity and make jokes about all the different incarnations and whatnot. Again, like Teen Titans Go.

Maybe it's a prequel series where we see life and times with the Turtles as children. Kinda like how Muppet Baby's was a spin off based of one scene from Muppet's take Manhattan.

Why would they do that? This isn't Twin Peaks where they can announce a continuation over twenty years later, a revival of the Fred Wolf TMNT would just appeal to a niche group over the age of thirty.

I thought about this too given how frequently the old voice actors are being brought back. But then again would they really make a 2D animated TMNT cartoon when the Nick show is all CG?

Unless they revive the OT in CG too...and meh I wouldn't want that.

What about a spinoff where each of the TMNT have there own miniseries?
Or continuing Turtles Forever?

If it's a Mighty Mutanimals series with Leatherhead/Newtrailizer/Slash/etc.

I'd mark for that.

^ This.

A Mutanimals series would be great for a TMNT spin-off series.

The Nick TMNT show doesn't do as well ratings wise as it used to so I don't think a spinoff is a good idea. Usually only shows with high ratings can afford a spinoff.

The toy sales are still very strong though, which is what really matters for a show like TMNT.

Who knows, maybe the actual plans aren't for a spin-off as much as they are for a cheaper replacement show?

That'd be cool. Though I couldn't see it being an ongoing kind of thing - another one-off crossover movie could be a lot of fun, though.

I think (or like to think?) that Half-Shell Heroes makes more sense as they're pushing that toy line quite a bit... And if I heard correctly, the movie toys weren't exactly a runaway success, right? (Can't verify that information, mind you - just heard a few comments along that line!)

I'd think it'd also be confusing to have the regular Nick series and one based on the movie running at the same time, but there's nothing to say "spin-off possibilities" means another weekly cartoon series, necessarily.

I'd be interested to see this as a miniseries/limited thing. I'm not convinced that a spin-off like this really has the potential to last long, though... People like the secondary TMNT characters, but they're probably not popular or "known" enough to support their own ongoing series.

Well it could be a series where the Turtles are older and takes place after the first show has ended. Maybe it'll feature an older April and Casey, too. But whatever they do, I'm excited to see how they do it and if the same crew who does the current show will be part of it. If they are, then I'm down for it.
