This show is full of references and parodies. So why not make a thread about it, listing them?
I'll start with Mr. Yuck, if that counts.

I'm a big Masters of the Universe fan so I liked last week when they referenced it during the Crognard bit. There have been tons of references over the course of this show. Probably more than we could even list here because we've forgotten about them.

There are just way too many that we'd need an episode guide like the one I helped create for the OT. Just hunt down the various episode discussions. Numerous old video games, comic books, cartoons, earlier TMNT franchises just to name a few. If anything I think this show has more references than any other series ever provided.
Just to share a few:
*Mousers Attack: The A-Team, Irma (before she was introduced as a human)
*It Came From The Depths: Twilight Zone (blinking eye in tunnel), Star Trek Trouble with Tribbles
*Mazes and Mutants: LOTR, The Hobbit, Pee Wee Herman, Mikey's ring resembling Princess Celesta.

In Battle for New York, Slash shouts, "Mutanimals, hooo!" an obvious reference to Thundercats.
He-Man reference in Crognard when Crognard cries out, "I have the energy!"

A lot of people think the blinking eye is a nod to Kubrick's 2001. When I first saw it I actually thought it was a nod to the original Technodrome.

I found a lot of the parts in Mazes and Mutants to be more of a nod to the old video game Dragon's Lair.
All their belts are nods to the old 90's movie adaptations, but that's pretty well known.
Still related to TMNT, but a weird nod I picked up was when playing Out of the Shadows, Donatello randomly remarks he had a weird dream and Donatello's voice was coming out of Raph's mouth, which is a joke since the voice actor from the nick series originally voiced Raph in the original cartoon.
I always catch weird things like that and the more obvious ones elude me sometimes.
Eastman on Casey's hockey stick is a pretty blatant nod too... I also love that he voices Ice Cream Kitty ^_^

In the episode Of Rat and Men, there's a shot of people running out of the theater. The movie title was Food of the Vermin. There's a movie call Food of the Gods about giant mutant rats.

Oh, and the way the owl/bird guy from Maze and Mutants is a tribute to David Bowie's character in Labyrinth. It's the way he plays with the crystal ball in his hand.

I liked the subtle Warriors reference from the Bebop and Rocksteady episode when they're on Coney Island. ("Turtles! Come out to plaaaaay!")
That was just one recent one I giggled at.

Nah, those are NY staples. There's definitely room for a nod like that though, now that you mention it. But given that series is ahead of the crew's time, I doubt they'd do something like that.

It doesn't need to be ahead of the crew's time if one of the VAs was part of that show, that was what made it funny to me.
Rob Paulsen kept leading them back to the water tower.
What's next, Donnie's so smart, he can name all the Nations of the World. :D

There are two moments I can think of off the top of my head where they parody the old Kool-Aid commercials, where the Kool-Aid Man bursts through a wall and goes "OH YEAH!" Both Baxter Stockman (when he's wearing the tPod-enhanced battle armor in "I Think His Name Is Baxter Stockman") and Dogpound (I can't remember which episode) bust through a wall and go "OH YEAH!" It immediately brought the Kool Aid commercials to my mind and I had a good laugh.

I liked the little reference in the S3EP1 where the show makes Evil Dead references with the whole locking the creature in the basement...At least, I THINK it was a ref. I'm a fan so I could be reading too much into it but that little cellar door scene mixed with the horror genre reminded me of it.

Not really a pop reference but there's a surfboard in Mikey's room that says 'Cipes' on it.
Also Mikey mentions tofu bacon in the Derp April episode, which is an obvious nod to Greg being a vegan. Pretty sure a line about meat/vegan-ism was in Teen Titans too.
The 'tokay' on Mondo Gecko's t-shirt is a breed of gecko - I was actually discussing this with my work colleagues on Friday and apparently they got this name because they have a weird cry that goes 'to-kehhh'.
And Crognard The Barbarian? ;)

I originally thought "Tokay" was either a reference to Tokka or to toker (for obvious reasons).

One of Nick TMNT's producers is Peter Hastings, who was a writer on Animaniacs, and co-created Pinky & The Brain.

In the episode The Croaking, between the police sketches of the punk frogs there's a drawing of the 1987 TV series Napolean and a sketch of Michelangelo from the 2014 film. - turtlepedia

I remember from season one where Donnie is drawing plans to who April then he quickly flips the drawing board over and there is a Space Heroes Movie post that bares a striking resemblance to the Star trek 3 movie poster.

There's actually a whole episode of Teen Titans GO! where Beast Boy convinces the rest of the team to give up meat and become vegans for a bit. I know that show gets a lot of flack, but I actually enjoy it for what it is.

No, Warriors as in the movie from 1979. Though the Warrior Cats connection is good; you're right - it defs explains Tigerclaw's name! I'm guessing he'd be Shadow Clan.

Well, Tigerclaw actually began in Thunderclan. His betrayal of the warrior code led to him being cast out of the clan, where he eventually became a member (and then leader) of Shadowclan. Joining with Riverclan, he created Tigerclan and declared war against the other two clans (which joined to form Lionclan). He died when Scourge, leader of Bloodclan (a savage clan from the cities) tore open his stomach and caused massive internal organ damage. You know, for kids! :)
Anywho, thanks for telling me that it was a movie. What's it about?

Ah, thanks for the reminder - it's been a couple of years since I've read the books. :) I do remember Scourge's death being fairly gory for a kids' series!
The Warriors movie is this funky little flick about a group of street gangs in New York. The movie follows this gang called The Warriors who are framed for killing another gang leader and they spend the night fighting rival gangs as they try to get back across the city to their home ground. It's a really good movie; you should definitely check it out.
But yeah; the line is pulled from a scene in the movie where The Warriors are at Coney Island and are taunted by a rival gang member with (IMO) one of the best improvisations in cinematic history:

TBH, I think the only reason why people called it a kids' series is because it starred cats. Talking animals seems to be a "just a kids thing". Guardians of Ga'Hoole is another example of this, where two of the main characters are tortured and subject to brainwash in the very first book! It only gets better/worse from there.
It does sound like a fun flick to watch! I'll keep my eye out for it.

I've never checked out Guardians of Ga'Hoole, though I did read Wolves of the Beyond by the same author and wasn't super-impressed. Is it worth taking a look at the series? How did the movie stack up in comparison, in your opinion? (I never saw it either).

I am a big Thundarr fan, and when the Turtles were watching Crognard, Crognard was facing a villain that was spinning his head around, during a battle, which is a reference to the evil Wizard Gemini who was a thorn in Thundarr's side though out the series. The only returning villain lol.

I'm not sure if this was mentioned, but being in the Raph thread just reminded me of it. Goonies reference in the Vision Quest episode. Raph's line about pirates when he found that area was great.

Senpai, I think a closer Evil Dead reference is in the Dream Beavers when Mikey is hitting Dave Beaver and he keep splitting into smaller beavers. It's just like when he has to fight all the tiny Ashes from the mirror.

There are a ton of references in the Halloween episodes from early Season 3. I think those are the most packed. They cover Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, The Thing, Tales from the Crypt, and Freaks.
The Big Trouble in Little China episode was just a homage to BTilC, even going to far as to have James Hong voice the Lo Pan ripoff (Ho Chan? I don't remember his name).
Someone already pointed out Mazes and Mutants Dragon's Lair reference. I love Don Bluth stuff so that was cool and on-point. There's also all those LoTRs references there too.
8BWlMlyO7hI
And all the cartoons they watch are just combinations of various cartoons and shows from the genre. From what I've seen, Crognar is a combination of Thundarr, He-Man, and Thundercats references.

Not sure if this was mentioned yet, but in the ep. Casey Jones Vs. the Underworld, Casey at one point says to the enemy:
"The class is pain 101. Your instructor is Casey Jones."
Definite nod to the 1990 movie. :tgrin:
