Yes it's official, they are in TMNT2. No news yet on who's playing them.
http://comicbook.com/2015/04/21/bebop-rocksteady-confirmed-for-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-2/
Paramount has confirmed that fan favorite henchmen Bebop and Rocksteady will appear in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2.
At Paramount’s Cinemacon presentation, the studio showed renderings of the characters as they appear in the film’s current stage of development, likely the same rendering that leaked to the public weeks ago before being squashed by Paramount.
Bebop and Rocksteady were relatively late additions to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles mythos. They did not appear in the original Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird comic book series, but were created for the uber-popular 1990s animated series so that Playmates would have more mutants to make action figures out of.
Given the cartoon’s popularity, it became the definitive take on the turtles for many who grew up during that era, making Bebop and Rocksteady an important part of the franchise. As a result, many of those fans have found it baffling that Shredder’s boneheaded mutant thugs have never made it onto the big screen for any of the Turtles’ live action outings.
Bebop and Rocksteady were recently reintroduced in IDW Publishing’s ongoing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turltes comic book series, which rebooted the series to include elements of continuity from each of the Turtles’ many incarnations. They recently made headlines for killing Donatello, in an effort to prove their worth to Shredder.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 is schedule to hit theaters June 3, 2016.

I thought it already was? No? What, were we waiting for one final executive to say "yup"? :)
Awesome though, I'll be very curious how that turns out and goes over with people. Surely it will leak again. (Did we miss it before, and if so, how?? Or just me?)
(Really though, that's like a woman five months pregnant finally confirming that she is. lol I mean, duh, was kind of known. :tlol:)

Yeah I thought that too and when I saw the news article I thought it was old or just wierd but apparently it was just 'rumors' before and now it's been 'officially' confirmed by Paramount.
I'm guessing in a couple of days we will find out who's going to play them.
I was thinking should I make a new thread or add it to an old thread but I thought someone will end up doing a new thread on it anyway, so what the hell I'll do a new thread anyway.

I'm kinda torn on this matter because while Bebop and Rocksteady are two of my favorite characters, I've gotten used to the idea of them not needing to be in every single incarnation. Still at the same time I've been wanting to see a live action version of them since Secret of the Ooze.

Some more details:
When Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles hit theaters last summer, we weren't the only ones disappointed at the absence of villains Bebop and Rocksteady. Well Paramount has heard our complaints, and on Tuesday, after many rumors, it was finally officially confirmed that Bebop and Rocksteady will be in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II.
The announcement was sandwiched between big presentations for Terminator: Genisys and Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation. Concept art for the two characters was shown that did not match the concept art leaked after the first movie hit theaters. This was something new and looked a little more cartoonish. But it was clear this was concept art and it could undergo some serious changes before we finally get a look at how the characters will look in the movie.
This is definitely some of the best news to come out of CinemaCon so far. We can't wait to see the Warthog and the Rhino make it to the big screen.

Why is it, any time new concept art is shown, we rarely hear positive comments?
It's always "might be tweaked".
Funny how that only happens to TMNT.
Cartoony might be a good thing...
That is unless it was designed by the same mouth breather who crapped out the turtles.

I dunno, a lot of films, games, etc go through multiple concepts and changes as they work on getting the right feel they're aiming for. Not to assume someone might not decide to screw with it anyhow (*cough* Turtle steroids *cough*), but I don't think tweaking something is so unusual. More of a matter of what they tweak.

You know that tweaking is a term only used by fans right? It means sweet **** all.
That's my gripe. And in the past, lot's of people have tried, and failed to put their own stamp on things, but if you look around right now, you'll notice that most franchises are adhering closer to their comic origins than in years past. The audience doesn't want reinterpretation.
Point being, if your not screwing with it, there is nothing to tweak. If it needs tweaks, you're intentionally changing it, better known as ****ing it up.
The concept art was drawn in 1984. It's pretty simple.

As opposed to Bebop & Rocksteady, you mean? I guess that order gets used more commonly by the masses, but in the OT they alternate between the two to the point that they both sound the same to me. :trazz:

What the hell? They were literally the first mutant villains ever created and were introduced 3 years after the franchise began. If Bebop/Rocksteady are considered "late" what the hell is everyone from 1988-2015 considered?

Also, Bebop & Rocksteady were developed at the behest of corporate America, 3 years after the TMNT were created. They are by no means sacred. If anything, one could argue against them, even, as they're symbolic with respect to the turtles forever being thought of as a children's property.

The concept art was drawn in 1984. It's pretty simple.
That's the thing - there's a difference between updating something and altering it. Tony Stark was injured and held captive in Afghanistan instead of Vietnam, the spider that bit Peter Parker was "genetically altered" instead of irradiated, when Steve Rogers was thawed out keeps shifting forward, but otherwise they still look and act like the same characters they've always been, and the spirit and intention of their stories (and backstories) is preserved.
Nothing about TMNT was broken. Not one part of it. If you're a professional storyteller and you can't tell that story without overhauling it significantly or bending over backwards to make it something entirely different, then you're just not very good at your job.
if you dont love Bebop and Rocksteady then you arent a real turtle fan. #Fact
Stow the "real fan" nonsense, all right? The "realness" of someone's fandom doesn't depend on it aligning with your own.
Besides, "aren't a fan of that specific version of the Turtles" is more accurate. Bebop and Rocksteady are only in a handful of versions of the property - the '87 cartoon and the Archie spin-off comic, the Nick cartoon, IDW comics, this movie, and some video games. The majority of TMNT iterations don't have them at all, including the original.

This is great. Although, I hope they don't format it like Secret of the Ooze, with Bebop and Rocksteady being henchmen and Shredder being the villain of the movie. I really want Krang for Christ's sake. Please don't make Shredder the main antagonist of the second movie. At least reduce him to the secondary antagonist, and change that goddamn armor.
Also, Bebop and Rocksteady means better action scenes. If the Foot would actually fight like ninja, the action scenes in the first movie would've been so much better.
Also, let's hope the Turtles get more screentime this movie. I did notice that they weren't absent as much as the Transformers were in their movies, as you can straight up tell how secondary their characters are. The Turtles felt secondary, but towards the second half of the movie, they felt more primary. And let's hope that if they're still going to have a human as the protagonist, they use Casey instead of April. Don't get me wrong, I want the Turtles to be the leads, but I'd take Casey as the lead over April any day of the week. Hell, I'd take Vern over Megan Fox- I mean April O'Fox- I mean April O'Neil.

i know studios do this all the time, but im genuinely surprised that they have already started principle photography, and they've yet to secure the actors playing main villains...
...but then again, just because they've havent announced it, doesnt mean it isnt already set.
Personally, I would like to see the mo-cap actors, and the voice actors to be one and the same person, but they may not be as big a factor as it is for the Turtles.

Or maybe they're just going to use a pair of unknown stand-ins for mo-cap reference where needed but really only cast 'named' actors for the voice performances? OH EM GEE,
Ah swear Ah saw a damn big toitle teh saiz of A truck, uh-yuck!
The Walhburger ruined Transformers. He's also ruined every film he's ever been in.
Ehh, there wasn't much left to ruin at that point. The property was thoroughly obliterated by the time Shia bailed. The worst Marky-Mark could do was smash up some charred rubble.
As for Bebop and Rocksteady... I kinda doubt they'll hire anyone who would cost them huge amounts of money. They're full-CGI characters, so unless they're desperate for stunt casting it really doesn't matter who plays them. They'll be glorified cameos anyway, in all likelihood - just like the Shredder was only a special effect for other special effects to smash against for a few fight scenes while Megan Fox and the Wills got most of the actual screen time. And this movie's even more crammed with characters and they'll want to keep it close to 90 minutes, so...

I mean, we have no idea what size B&R are going to end up being...
If they keep the Turtles big (and I hope after the backlash, they do not) then I think Bebop and Rocksteady have to be as big if not bigger to pose any kind of threat.
The Turtles were hurling Foot across the screen in their last film, the only villian posing a real threat was the Shredder himself.
I personally hope the inclusion of B & R, means they can let loose with their weapons!

From what I understand, Peter Laird feels that Fred Wolf and crew shut him and Kevin Eastman out of the process as early as they could. Eastman and Laird did have some creative input in season 1, but Fred Wolf did not want their involvement from the second season onwards and thus decided "shut them out", presumably because they disapproved of several key elements from season 1.
An example Laird himself likes to point out is that by the end of episode 5, the Technodrome would be hijacked by the Turtles and it would replace the sewer lair... No really, it's presumably why the toy seems to have been designed for the Turtles rather than Shredder or Krang.
He has mentioned that he could have demanded the show to be altered to his liking, but it would take too much time and energy so it simply wasn't a fight worth fighting.

Fred Wolf wanted that (or possibly David Wise), Laird put his foot down. Laird has the described the hijacking as "particularly stupid".
This one of several things vetoed by Laird and Eastman in season 1. Presumably, because they interfered so much in season 1, Fred Wolf appearently decided to leave them out of the creative process as much as they could. This is probably why it turned into the slapstick sitcom show Laird hates.

Sadly, he claims not to remember a lot of it, the Technodrome thing he remembers because it was amongst the ones he had the most distaste for. I know of something he intended to change though, he didn't like the design Krang's body had, so he pitched two replacerment designs. It didn't go through obviously, the "Potato-wrestler" stuck anyway... Still, pretty awesome Kirby inspired designs though!

Here are some quotes from the man himself:
The drawings in the link you sent were rough designs drawn by me in 1987, quite possibly while the final look of "Krang" in his robot body was being discussed, or perhaps they were done to try to convince Playmates and MWS to change the silly look they'd gone with. I don't really remember. It's interesting to see the handwritten note about the "exhaust vents" on Krang's robot body's shoulders as something the Turtles could crawl into -- obviously a reference to the fact that in the animated series, Krang's robot body was supposed to be able to grow to a huge size -- the only way any of the Turtles could have fit through those vents.
I don't have too much to say about them, though I think I was the one who first did designs for a mutant warthog and mutant rhino in the TMNT universe, though I am not absolutely sure if my drawings came first, before the appearance of these characters in the scripts for those first few episodes of the animated series. I'm pretty sure my drawings came first. There is a video clip in the TMNT documentary, footage taken at our first meeting at Playmates Toys, which supports this.
It is true that I didn't want them in any of the movies, which is why instead of Bebop and Rocksteady in the second movie (The Secret of the Ooze") there were Tokka and Rhazar. If memory serves, Kevin was equally opposed to the inclusion of Bebop and Rocksteady in the movies.
It's not so much that I disliked the characters so intensely, but more that I found their constant one-note shtick in the first animated series to be extremely annoying and silly to the point of being stupid. That was, unfortunately, a consistent aspect of that whole series -- mind-numbingly dopey repetition.
I don't have many clear memories about getting those first batch of scripts, but I think we may not have seen any of them until our first visit to the offices of Murakami/Wolf in California. One thing I DO remember quite clearly is shooting down what Kevin and I both considered to be a ridiculous idea that Wolf (or someone writing for him) put forward -- that at the end of the first few episodes, the Turtles would take over the Technodrome and turn it into their lair.
It's a sore spot for me that even though we technically had script approval, in reality we ended up getting shut out of the process early on. I suppose if we had really raised a fuss and demanded our full rights, things might have been different. But during those years we were pretty naive about the business, and in truth we had so much other stuff going on that we couldn't -- or didn't want to -- waste a lot of energy fighting what seemed to be a losing battle.
But you're right about the 4Kids experience -- it was the exact opposite, for two main reasons: I was not the "babe in the woods" that I was during the FW years, and 4Kids was not FW. I had a great time working with them, mostly with Lloyd Goldfine, who was a pleasure to work with. -- PL

So, the Turtles would've taken over the Technodrome? That'd be pretty cool, leading to a completely different series in many aspects. I find it funny E&L created the characters, yet Pete seems to dislike them so much.
I'm going to say this, about the idea of including Bebop and Rocksteady in any serious version of TMNT film that might come out (not that the bay films are serious) ... well, the argument against it is all but dead now. These two have cemented themselves as the most popular and most used Shredder henchmen in the overall TMNT lore.
The two comedic and bumbling goofs are only to be found in Archie and Fred Wolf. IDW has two giant and unstoppable killing machines that murdered an entire group of ninja without even breaking a sweat, while Nick has two cunning and deadly foes who are a serious threat to the tmnt. If someones whines about the 'they are nothing but bumbling goofs' now, well... that's not how the character are really portrayed anymore, is it?
Besides, I think the IDW versions could even mow through the big, bulletproof Bay turtles without breaking a sweat, ethier.

Y'know, Peter Laird has never liked or approved of ANY version of the TMNT that he wasn't involved with. To play the devil's advocate a lot of what you just said is factually untrue.
Partly because he's was involved in the '87 show early on albeit in a very tertiary before he and Kevin were pushed out.
While his dislike of the '87 show is well known when he actually talks about it beyond a sentence or two it isn't quite as negative about it as you'd think. He's expressed liking aspects of it such as Baxter as a fly and the Technodrome and he recently said about the show that it "started out strong but quickly (to my mind, anyway) devolved into a show which featured ludicrous slapstick and recycled plots." That's hardly a damning statement in fact I think that's an opinion shared by many fans of the show itself.
He has commented on what he's seen of the Nick show which generally positive if not glowingly so and some more mixed opinions on the IDW series. I suspect he has seen the new movie but doesn't want to comment on it out of concern of the inevitable storm it would cause.
The image of Laird is very much the guy who hates everything TMNT but the stuff he was involved in although it's probably more accurate to say he has varying opinions on everything TMNT including the stuff he was involved in. To put this into perspective he's actually criticized some of his own work and actually likes Coming Out of Our Shells.:o
I'll bet he's never spoken well of the Archie comics, either.
Drawing several covers solo and allowing...even going as far as suggesting characters and concepts from the TMNT Adventures to be used in Tales of TMNT kinda speaks for itself.
Whereas Kevin has always been down for whatever (with varying success, as history has shown us).
He presents himself as someone down for whatever but if he wants to remain part of the franchise that's really his only option really, isn't it?
Honestly, I think if it weren't for Kevin Eastman, TMNT would never have become a world-recognized brand. Nor would it still be around today.
How so?
Peter and Kevin both allowed TMNT be licensed out for toys, animation, merchandise and movies. Never once have we ever gotten the impression that Peter was reluctant in that or that Kevin was more eager to go mainstream.
I think there's a certain amount of evidence to show Peter was eager to be involved even though he would grow disgruntled with the lack of input. Let's not forget Laird presided over bringing TMNT back with the '03 which was successful enough to revive interest in the franchise for a big company to actually want to buy it.
Kevin didn't show as much interest bar the Next Mutation and not it's not like he can really claim any major part of any success (or failure) of the current output. He just endorses it. If he had a creative stake in it I think we'd be getting something quite different.

He has commented on what he's seen of the Nick show which generally positive if not glowingly so and some more mixed opinions on the IDW series. I suspect he has seen the new movie but doesn't want to comment on it out of concern of the inevitable storm it would cause.
The image of Laird is very much the guy who hates everything TMNT but the stuff he was involved which is probably in although it's probably more accurate to say he has varying opinions on everything TMNT including the stuff he was involved in. To put this into perspective he's actually criticized some of his own work and actually likes Coming Out of Our Shells.:o
Drawing several covers solo and allowing, even going as far as suggesting characters and concepts from the to TMNT Adventures be used in Tales of TMNT kinda speaks for itself.
Peter and Kevin both allowed TMNT be licensed out for toys, animation, merchandise and movies. Never once have we ever gotten the impression that Peter was reluctant in that or that Kevin was more eager to go mainstream.
I think there's a certain amount of evidence to show Peter was eager for him to be involved even though he would grow disgruntled with the lack of input. Let's not forget Laird presided over bringing TMNT back with the '03 which was successful enough to revive interest in the franchise for a big company to actually want to buy it.
Kevin didn't show as much interest bar the Next Mutation until and no it's not like he can really claim any major part of any success (or failure) of the current output. He just endorses it. If he had a creative stake in it I think we'd be getting something quite different.
You may be right; I am after all analyzing things past based on his current attitude and positions, and Laird has certainly distanced himself from the franchise. Also just the fact that Eastman has been involved and Laird hasn't (to a large extent) does give an impression that can be misleading.
I freely admit I'm barely familiar with TMNTA at all, and I haven't seen Laird ever say anything about the Nick cartoon or IDW comics except to say things along the line of "I don't really watch/read it but I'm glad people are enjoying it." And as for the movie, well... :tlol:
I do think it's accurate to say that, since the Fred Wolf cartoon, Laird has not ever endorsed a version of TMNT that he did not directly have a hand in. Whereas Kevin seems to have endorsed everything, ranging from the great (IDW and, according to you guys who watch it, Nick) to the pretty lousy (2014 movie).
Thanks for the perspective! You've made a lot of good points, and I appreciate it! :tthumbsu:

I feel like Bebop and Rocksteady's screentime depends on A. the budget and B. whether or not Krang is in it.
To be fair, TMNT 1 did give us more Turtles than the Transformers movies give us Transformers, and they had a budget of $125 million, which is quite low.
Obviously they're not going to have Megan Fox reduced to a secondary character, so I'm hoping they'll give us a happy combo of both. I'd rather have to deal with Megan Fox and the Turtles than her without the Turtles.
But let's say Krang's in this film, I have a feeling their appearance would be like the secondary antagonists they were in Blue Door.
If not, I'm 93% sure that they'll be shoehorned into the final act of the movie, either as the final battle or the penultimate battle.

Kevin eastman has his turtles fallout..alot of people seem to forget that...remember he sold all his shares and his entire turtles collection...there is a reason...he may never admit it but i wouldn't be surprised if their was some bitterness involved or some just not caring anymore
i mean i cant say its a fact but when i first met him in North Hampton at words & pictures around 95 or 96...sure he had turtles stuff but he was Pushing Heavy Metal more
sure now he is back in turtles Mania but i feel for a while he wanted out too
