View Full Version : Next Mutation: was it really all bad?

granted, i haven't seen all the episodes, andd remeber next to nothing about this show, i'm sure it had a few good points. I just downloaded a few clips from the ninjaturlesnetwork, and there are obvious flaws, there is some cool parts.
I paticuler, i love the scen w/ splinter and the blind man playing ches, there's something about it, that is just magical,
i want this thread to discuss the good from this show, instead of it's obvious short=comings
yeah i enjoyed the new villan of dragon lord and the vehicles were cool as well, i also enjoyed that it took place when the turtles were like seventeen or eighteen.

I watched about 5 minutes of one episode when it aired and I thought it was the most horrid thing ever. Since then, I dare not watch it even though I've seen all episodes on sale a few times. Don't ask me where because the places I saw them they sold almost immediately.

the good thing according to my opinion:
-they were very funny, specially mike
-they met with the power rangers
-when they met with the power rangers it was even funnier(and sillier)
Bad Things:
-they met with the power rangers
-it was repetitive
-dragon lord was the typical power ranger villian stereotipe (lord zedd ring any bell  )

Same with me, SF!
I only saw a few eps... it didn't seem too auful.. a little to 'zany' though, like it's only purpose was to make then 10 and under audience laugh. And of course... Venus :shudder: Other than that I really liked that they attempted to revive the turtles, I mean without TNM the new show probably wouldn't be so good, or mabey not even be. Also, from what I saw the costumes were pretty neato.. original, and stuff. In fact, if it were on again, I'd atempt to watch it.

actually about the suits, the designs were good but just that, whenever they bumped into each other when fighting and stuff u could see how soft the shell actually were, it looked like foam to me, there were some other details about the suits that made 'em look unreal :dead:

I have 25 of the 26 eps on tape (the sole exception is the venus Clip show since it had no new material unlike the Raph/Leo clip show, with Raph addressing the foot with leo).
I make it no secret that I love Next Mutation, yes it was by no means great, but you have to remember it was a saban property and Live action, there fore what they could do was limited.
What really makes it one of the best seriers for me was the creativity that went in to it. They just had some of the most inovative ideas in TMNT in that series
To this day I'm aginst Venus bashing, was wasn't bad, just porrly handled because it was live action. For those people who only saw the first few eps and piont to her 'limited intelligince' THATS CRAP. Venus was very smart, she just didn't know anything about America. Yes she could handel her magic very well, but she never finished her trains so its understandable. As the show progressed you saw Venus did understand a lot, and her magic did improve, she even played Laser Tag with Raph. Venus was justa new idea, most people hated it, I think she was a blessing and revitalised the saga.
Villians
They had some of the best Villians in this show. Well the villians had some of the best motivation in the series
Dragons- Thwy wanted to eat the turtles, I can't recall any other TMNT relity where the villians main reasoning was they wanted a snack! And it does raise an interesting question, wuold the dragon mutate if they ate the turtles.
Silver- OK He sucked
Doc. Quease- A bit over the top but he was fun, it was nice to see don play around with him, admire him and hate him at the same time.
Vampires- OK vam sucked, but the other 2 were great. I loved having 2 300 year old vampire-mystic-ultra butt kickers stuck in the bodies of 8 year olds. Its really a shame they didn't get more eps.
SIMON BONESTEEL- I love this man so much. Not just cause its Scott Macneil, its because he was really diffrent. He was in on real way evil. Yes he hunted endangered speacies, but not cause they were evel, cause they were hard to hunt. That was his sole motivation, he wants a challenge, no great back story just a challenge. And the guy did do some good, he use to hunt Vampires so he was pretty cool
Honestly I don't think most people would have bashed the show if it were animated, the live action was what really hurt it
What I really hated is the second wave of toys never made it down here. cause I really wanted to own the camo leo and bike, but it never ahppened. But I did manage the Rapha nd his bike, which stands as the coolest bike in my collection
Theres a lot more I could say, or could have said better, if you really want my view use the search function, I have laid down the opionion on this show many times.

I have mixed feelings towards next mutation.
some of the costume aspects were great. I like how they aged the guys past 15. even though they didn't always act like it.
I could have done without the loony tunes sound effects though. but the humor in general was ok.
the fight scenes weren't bad, though I havent seen the whole series.
as far as venus goes. I have to agree with the creators of the TMNT.... she needed to not be.
Don't hate her. just didn't think she needed to exist in the first place
all in all.. it wasnt horrible.. but I have seen better

Um, TNM ... when I first saw this, my first thought was: Oh My God! What the hell have they dun to the costumes!? The shell's were soft, they didn't even bother keeping the stretchy material on the underarm from view, and their plastrons - pft - luks like they tried to carv them themselves. I first rejected Venu tho coz I hate it when the spotlight is drawn to someone else other that the main characters: the TMNT. But, she IS smart in her own shinobi way, even tho I wince at her voice sometimes.
I do think it's gud that they tried to bring TMNT back with a live show, and even add a new character, but there were so many things that were crap or wrong. Did any one notice Leo luked about a head shorter than Mikey?
But Bonesteel made me laugh. A hunter? Luking for the turtles? I think that was something gud to add to the show even tho he was a bit ... wappy. Silver - crap, his mouth hardly moved when he spoke. The dragon Lord and the dragons - Main vilian really, not bad, not great.
The one thing I HATED all the way thru was that Raph luked stoned throughout the show, and Leo was shorter than the rest. I think their personalities aren't quite right either, but I admit they had some gud bits in. I neither like it nor hate it, but I wud watch it if it were ever on TV. Bare in mind I'm sure this was aimed for younger years (I hope), so Venus cud be excused in that part *makes face*... well, maybe...

10-26-2003, 06:17 PM
Overall, I didn't think it was that bad, optimistically. Hey, it appealed to me because I was 9 years old. It made me remember even further back to the old toon and I was like "yeah, I remember that". I feel Venus took over the role of Leo too much though, and it was a little too goofy at certain times. :goofygri:
I'm not going to say this was the best TMNT, not by far, but I still liked it. Yeah, I know it was cheap and corny, but it had so much potential! If this idea had been given to any other company to make, I think it could have been really good. Seriously good.

--LIKE EVERY-FREAKING-THING ELSE!!!!!!
I mean, let's face it. This show was the worst kind of patheticrap!!!! The only reason I watched it was that I liked Dragon Lord and it was still better than seasons 9 & 10 o0f old-show!!
BTW It wasn't cancelled.....
IT WAS EUTHANIZED!!!!!
Seriously, Fox felt sorry for it and put it out of it's (and our) misery!!! I was glad to see it go, even though I was a little worried about the future of TMNT. Luckily, between Vol. 4 and the new-show, I had nothing to fear!!!

The Next Mutation (or Mutilation, as my brother loved to say) just left me confused. I dug the live action aspect, and even the costumes to a certain degree. But the voices, the plots and the thick smear of afterschool cheese was more than enough reason to click off the remote. I think the Hummer sent me over the edge.

Some reason I never get to see this show much. I only remenber an episode with one of the turtles saving a non-mutated turtle.
I watched a download that only had 10 minutes of the first part.
I could buy a used video of the show when I get a chance.
Although the sequence for this show is confusing The Turtles have the letters on their belts like the original. It's simalar to the movies only Shredder is still a live.
I'm not sure who's the one who wrote the idea of a TMNT show that's not the same. Not sure if I'll ever see this show if there's a chance.
Atleast we're happy with the new show today.

Yeah right, the material was so thin it so dint luk right. It was pretty infuriating to see Venus got the normal bandanna. Mikey's luked like an orange bandage as well as Donny's. *shakes head* Friggin female turtle gets the best things

And since it was WCW, Vanilla Ice and Hollywood Hogan would be fighting Diamond Dallas Page and Ernie Reyes Jr. on the undercard, while Goldberg defended the WCW Title against all of nWo Hollywood (and won), and Bret Hart wouldn't wrestle, but he'd do a 20-minute interview about the amazing groin injury that kept him from defending the U.S. Title, turn from heel to face and back 7 times, and mention how he came to WCW "to earn a reputation, not to lose one!" at least twice. Chris Benoit would beat Raven in the best match on the card and nobody would notice. And the camera would show Sting in the rafters at least 9 times throughout the show, and at about 11:07 EST (as the announcers scream about how they are "desperately out of time and we'll show you whatever we miss tomorrow night on Nitro!") Sting will storm the ring and A) Do nothing as the announcers wonder aloud "...but WHOSE SIDE IS HE ON?!?!", or B) Beat up everyone in the ring, the dressing room, the Nitro Girls dressing room, the security staff, all the fans, the hot dog vendor, the guy in the parking lot selling bootleg "One Warrior Nation" shirts, Bobby Heenan (for all those "that's not Sting's hair, those are nerve ends..." jokes), and Local Girl Scout Troop 420... all without getting hit once.

I stumbled across Next Mutation around last year when I saw it in the FoxKids TV listings. When I discovered it was a new TMNT show, I just HAD to tune it.
The first episode I saw was East Meets West Part II since I didn't know about it until that day.
I sat through the whole thing and hated it. I was so sickened I had to instantly watch the 1st movie to try and erase the meomry of NM and remind myself how great the turtles really are, that NM was NOT the "real" TMNT.
Venus I loathe. She just wasn't funny and the show focused on her way too much. The whole fifth turtle/girl turtle thing relly offened me.
The costumes were shockingly awful, easily the worse TMNT costumes ever along with TMNT III. The bandana's were vile.
As for everything else, the stupid cartoon sound effects weren't needed, the villains were more cringeworthy than the Power Ranger ones, Shredder was a joke, the scripts were bad. And was it me or did the TMNTs act like sexist jerks around Venus, especially in the beginning? I hated that.
It's kind of sad because without Venus and Saban, a live action TMNT has the potentional to be good IMHO. They just need some respectable costumes, villians who can be taken seriously and even feared, good scripts and decent actors.
How big ws NM's budget anyway? It had the feel of a super cheap show.

Did Kevin Eastman have anything to do with creating the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Did he have anything to do with creating Ninja Turtles the Next Mutation? The answers to these questions alone tells me TNM should be considered by all a part of theTMNT.
The show could have been made better, yes. Many of the bad views of the shows are exaggerated though. To start out with their home was awsome. I have loved that old subway station since it appeared in The Secret of the Ooze. The costumes were good.
Dragon Lord is a very good idea. Dragons are mythical creatures from the past so it was cool to see them in todays world along with Ninjitsu.
The Mystical Realm, or whatever its called, is also a good idea. Again, it could have been better done or expanded upon.
The Hummer, to this day, is one of the best vehicles the TMNT have owned. Along side Raph's beautiful bike.
The idea that Raph's bandana was torn in places was also unique. The torn look gives Raph the alone feeling he supposed to have.
Venus would have been much better if her orgin story was different. If the Utroms would have come back to Earth and found the Ninja Turtles(originals) and tried an experiment on a new turtle with their ooze. Venus is then found by Splinter's friend some how and tought the arts. Only because Venus had to be there for Fox, should she have been there in the first place, but a new orgin story would have helped.
Shredder was poorly represented. Venus defeating him instead of the Turtles who have battled him all their lives? That was the major fault of the show I thought.
Splinter's costume needed a lot of work as well. (I did like him being grey though)
The fight scenes needed work as well. Cut the noises first, then have more realistic fighting (most any show for kids could use this, if only those naging parents would allow it,) and some New York scenery (Rooftops) could have helped as well.

Considering Kevin Eastman no longer has anything to do with TMNT, and that Peter Laird erased TNM and Image From TMNT History, I'd say no. It isn't officially part of TMNT history anymore.
It's like when Glenn Jacobs played the Fake Diesel character. We are suppoused to pretend it never happened.

I will still honor Kevin Eastman with being one of the greatest contributors to the TMNT of all time. If my memory serves me correctly, he was The One who came up with "Ninja Turtles" and "Teenage Mutant" was added on to that. Besides that I really don't think TNM was that bad.

I realize you're just bein' silly dude, but Eastman simply can not be forgotten, whether Laird wants it or not. If it weren't for him, there wouldn't have been any TMNT at all. The idea came from his original sketch. Plus, c'mon.. We ALL love his edgy side of the TMNT. Don't we? DON'T WE?

Laird has never tried to "hide" Eastman's influence over the TMNT. Hell, Eastman's name is all over the official site. And if by Eastman's edgy you mean something like the Bodycount, I'm not a fan. But his work with Laird on volume 1 will probably remain the best TMNT stories ever.

Unlike the Next Mutation show, the Image comics' run on the TMNT was actually pretty good. Hey, its wasn't Mirage... but, seriously, what is??
The Image run ultimately failed for a number of reason, mostly because of the subpar artwork past the first storyarch (the first five issues actually had pretty good art). Another major problem was Larsen's lack of commitment to the series (one issue every 2 to 3 months, with no real stability on dates, was a serious detriment), despite his claims to the contrary.
Oh well, it was fun while it lasted, but I'm glad its no longer part of "official" TMNT history... the Mirage take should be an entity all its own.
Eh, I like to think of Image and TNM as "professional fan fiction".

Thank you Elite 5 Raph. Eastman is incredibly important. TNM should not be forgotten, and not be considered the "Dark Age of Turtles." I do remember the days when the Turtles were more edgy in the early comics. A few deaths is not that bad and versus some crime is needed.

I thought the Next Mutation was cool when I saw it years ago, It was the closest thing we got to a live action version of the TMNT on TV after all 3 movies, Anyways, One thing that did kind of disapointed me about this series was a key character that was missing, a character who has been a part of the TMNT for a very long time, April O'Neal was nowhere in site on that series.

Okay, I've seen The Next Mutation on DVD. I don't have a problem with Venus, what I do got a problem with is the way they made this show, the fight scenes are pointless, the turtles bearly use they're weapons and seeing the Foot soldiers run away like cowards and come back to Shredder with bandages and slings is just childish. And I hate the way The Shredder was defeated, it was a complete insult to the original comics, freeing him from his evil side then Saki having a trantrom, oh please. At what point did the Turtles forget that The Shredder killed Hamato Yoshi? Another thing that spoils the fight scenes are those cartoon noises played everytime someone gets beaten. I also think the script was badly written, though some lines were funny,
Foot: But the rat had a stick.
Shredder: And what did the turtle have? A pink flower?
Another thing, those dragon creatures are just too weird for my taste, and not to mention the absence of April O'Neil & Casey Jones, or even Baxter Stockman.
I think I'll stick with the 2003 series.

Bashing Next Mutation is NOT bashing Eastman, Eastman had no more to do with that show than Laird did and, I am fairly certain that if he was still involved with TMNT, Next-Mutation, and probably Image TMNT would have STILL been "erased" from the continuity. I'm pretty sure the only thing done differently would be Volume 4.
Laird has never tried to "erase" Eastman's influence. Eastman simply got "turtled out" and wanted to concentrate on Heavy Metal (http://www.metaltv.com/)for awhile so he sold his half to Laird so Laird could do Volmue 4 solo. Associating Eastman with the discontinued versions simply doesn't make sense.

With the Next mutayion, i think that they were just trying to p!$$ turtle fans off. They brought in that girl turtle, which would have been fine, if she had only been a guest friend, like mondo ghecko in the original cartoon. Making her their long lost sister was very cliche' It also took away from the TMNT tradition. I think that they were trying a little too hard to be politically correct. The only thing that i half respected about the show was that shredder was at least in the first episode. To me, TMNT isnt itself without Shredder as the main villan. Also the way that they got rid of Shredder was too power-rangery, how can they add all that mystical crap in there. I thought that the secrets of the ooze were magical enough. The next mutation, is indeed the blacksheep of the TMNT saga.

I'm talking about the "Bashing Next Mutation is Bashing Kevin Eastman" attitude and the, "Laird removed Next Mutation to erase Eastman's involvement" theory.
Yes, Eastman was the TMNT creator most involved with Next Mutation, but Next-Mutation is NOT Eastman's "vision" of the TMNT. If Fox and Saban hadn't meddled with the show and, just produced it and did what they were told by Eastman, then....
A.) the show would have been good
B.) The show could have been very different and very-much Eastman's handiwork
[color=cyan]Example: Fox and Saban forced Eastman and Laird to add a female Turtle, so Eastman designed Venus. It's not as if Eastman always wanted a female TMNT he had to create one to get the show made
Also, while Eastman and Laird's friendship has drifted apart and their partnership desolved, they still respect each-other and Laird has never even remotely tried to "remove Eastman from the francise". Next Mutation never even had to be "removed" it was cancelled. Since, NM ever seemed to fit into any existing TMNT timeline anyway (it seemed to be a cross between movie and old-cartoon continuity), and the only still-existing TMNT universe from that era is the Mirage comics which NEVER included next Mutation and were created be Laird AND Eastman there really IS no place to include it in the continuity if they wanted to! Which Laird doesn't, not because of Eastman, but because of what Saban and Fox did to that show.
Also, Laird always credits Eastman for his parts of the old comics, Eastman is all over the website, was drawn by Laird and Lawson in a recent issue's funeral scene and is the appearance basis for a cop in the new cartoon. Laird may be the only one running the show these days but Eastman is still acknowledged and respected by Laird and all the Mirage crew.
I hope this doesn't sound like an anger rant. Because, it's just an explaination of what I meant by my statement.

I'm new here, and as My first post, I just want to saw this...
I did not know Fox wanted them to have a female Turtle. She seemed (pardon the phrase) court ordered bussed in, and it appears to be true . I think the series had potential. I sawthe first few episodes up until she arrived, and I thought they were good. But after she came, things fell appart. Everyone has complaints of shows going down hill when new characters are introduced. When someone says Inspector Gadget, they say Capeman ruined the show. They say the same for the Gruesoms and the great Gazoo in the Flitnstones. And Scooby Doo's Scrappy ruined the series, but somehow it actually thrived with him. Weird.
I feel that ever since the last season of the cartoon on CBS, they were trying to breath new life into the show, trying to get the kids out of Power Rangers, and then with this show they wound up making it a clone.
If things were different, and they had Casey Jones in it (Casey can fix anything IMO) it could have been good... but sadly it wasn't.

First off, let me just say I really wanted to chime in on this, because I was SO excited when the Next Mutation debuted, I went out and bought all the figures. Well, all the original figures.
Anyway, I liked some of the show. Everyone bitches about the costumes, but I expected them to be low-budget, and for their low budgets the Turtles looked great. Their mouth movements and dubbing was a bit off, but I doubt anyone could do SO MUCH with so little. SO I give it 9/10 for costumes, cause I can appreciate low budget stuff.
The show could have had the greatest format ever, the old Power Rangers format. Only Shredder would be the main villan, and the foot soldiers could have been like the Putties in Power Rangers. The Turtles could have fought tons of foot, then each episode Shredder could have made some sort of mutant or somecrap and the turtles would defeat him. It would have really worked like that.
As far as what they DID though...they immediately pulled Shredder from the show, as well as the foot and added a new badguy. Blah to that. Sure, I could have used a swap up of villans from time to time, but not to change the entire focus of the show to Dragon dude.
So for overall story it gets a 5/10.
As far as the bandanna's and rags all over the Turtles, I liked that. It gave them a more grown up, sewer dwelling rebel look.
The problem comes in Venus. Not so much her appearance persay, but that for the majority of the show, the TMNT 4 are made to look like losers, but Venus always comes out smelling like a rose.
They tried SO hard in the first few eps to make Venua appealing, that they buried the other turtles appeal. It totally turned me off on the show, not so much that they added this 5th girl turtle, but that, SHE was the focal point of the show. Plus she was a magic ninja? WTF? There are a million reasons to hate Venus, but I cut her character some slack, but they way she was portrayed to be entirely too much of the show, destroys her rating.
Venus gets a 3/10.
As far as the Power Rangers cross over. Well it was hokey, but pretty cool in the fact that cross overs are RARE and fun things that have to be taken for what they are. I'll give it a 7/10.
Then we have the fighting. Well its a kids show, so the weapons are not gonna be used much. Its also guys fighting in bulky suits on low budgets. The hokey sound effects hurt the rating some, but I could stomatch 60's Batman's "POW" "ZAMMO" so I'll accept that. It was weak, but managable. So I'll say, 7/10 again.
Then we get to overall show plot, and this is what hurts. I mean, they had some decent ideas, Vampires, Gorilla's in trench coats, Mutants, Bounty Hunters and Dragons......but for every good idea they had, it was implimented bad. And where is Casey or April? How hard was it to hire a dude in a Hockey Mask or a red headed girl? Then add in all the Venus oriented plots and hokey magic. Give em a few points for sticking to the show as a follow up from the movie, using movie stock footage and using the old set. Then take away a few points for really kidding u the characters worse then TMNT 2, and I'll give the overall plot of the show a 5/10.
Low Budget Costumes: 9/10
Story Value: 5/10
Venus: 3/10
Power Rangers Corssover: 7/10
Fighting: 7/10
Overall Plots: 5/10
Final score: 6/10
Final Thoughts: Everyone can pretty much agree this show was wasted POTENTIAL. If you liked the show, you obviously liked only parts of it or the concept. If you hated the show you likely never gave it a chance because of the low budget or kiddy stuff, or just couldn't handle the weak plots. I gave it a real thumbs in the middle, because I tried to like it, wanted to like it, and even tried to force myself to watch it, but eventually was bored and uniterested in it and ended up missing most of the original run. Everyone though, would likely watch it now, if it was on again, just to see what it was all about. It was once again, POTENTIAL, that was severly untapped. I remember when the show came out, several friends being excited about it, and they after a few episodes asking me, "Hey is the cartoon still on? I like the turtles, but this show just isn't up to snuff." Perhaps in a more tolerant time, TNM would have been better, but in the annals of time it'll be chalked up as wasted potential.
P.S.: In the latter days of Nitro it was reveal Bischoff was the Hummer driver.
Drtooth
12-05-2003, 08:56 AM
I feel that 90% of cross overs are hokey... and in my own fans works, all I ever do is crossovers :tlol:
But I mean, if Shredder was still in it, and they had Costumed versions of Bebop, Rocksteady (or whent the movie route, and did those two guys...I haven't seen Secret of the Ooze in years) it could have had potential. But when Splinter was stuck in either another dimention or a spirit realm, I knew it was over.
But back to Venus... because she is the PC court ordered character of the bunch they could NOT possibly make her interresting, because any charactr flaw would make her a stereotype. and character flaws make characters memorable. Think about it. Raph is a hot head (or sarcastic depending on if you follow the old comics or the G1 cartoons), Mikey is the jokester or wanna be surfer dude, Donny is the tech nerd, and Leo is pretty much the leader, and there isn't any real flaw with him, but he made it work. not just with the Turtles, but Daffy's flaws are wacjkiness and jealousy, Fozzie Bear's a bad comedian and he tries to be a good one, and the cast of Seinfeld is NOTHING but character flaws.
Lets say they made Venus vain... off the bat someone would complain that not all women are vain and egotistical. Let's say they made her very angry, and mess up their goals. Again, we'd have complaints. So they made here with no disinguishable personality. no one complained... they just gave up with the show.
It reminds me of a Mad Magazine article from the 1960's (in the Mad About the 60's book... if you want to read it in a book store) where this fictional show (about a ventrilloquist and a dummy)had numerous complaints about the jokes. The next week they didn't say anything, and recieved only one letter... a letter toi say they were cancelled!
Final Thoughts: Everyone can pretty much agree this show was wasted POTENTIAL.
Definitely!
And as for the show's portrayal of Venus, I agree. Seems way PC and forced. I always liked the way she was in the TMNT Letters, very cheery while remaining calm and centered (most of the time,) and very curious. A good addition to the team while not stealing spotlight (excluding when she first arrived.) That's how I see her.
*still working on that rewrite thing...*
Newton Gimmick
12-05-2003, 10:52 AM
That was my point. She got pushed so hard, and was so *perfect* all the time, that I just couldn't like her.
And yes, some traditional badguys using the Power Rangers formula would have worked, cause even if Laird, Eastman or ANYONE likes it or not, People REALLY wanna see Rocksteady & Bebop again, and everyone wanted to see a Live-Action version of them, either in the movies or the show, but as with a bunch of stuff on the TNM they missed the boat, and wasted time making other badguys. TNM coulda had some great plots and baddies, but wasted most of their potential probably due to a bunch of crap we don't know about like Saban/Fox/PC Councils, but my point was, the show wasn't the most terrible thing ever but it was so hackneyed it was hard to enjoy any of the good parts.
If it'd lasted a few more seasons perhaps fan apathy would have caused some cool changes, like Rocksteady, Bebop, Krang, Shredder returning, etc...but we'll never know, cause it got canned.
Chicks loved the show and Venus though, which I suppose was her point.

Oh for the love of God, that was'nt going to happen, not once, not ever.
"The Next Mutation", for all it's flaws, was a retarded attempt at creating a new show which was loosely based within the Eastman/Laird style universe, a place Krang, Rokcsteady, and Bepop had NO PLACE IN

Yeah, I honestly think Eastman tried to create an awesome Mirage-esque show, but Saban ruined it beyond recognition (which is why I don't think it fair to blame him for that show).
I think if Fox and Saban just let the man create, Next Mutation would have ROCKED!

i can't imagine the bad costumes, have you seen some of the pr mosters? oh my god!, what about the gigant frog like thing in time force, he is like the sidekick of the main villian, he looks ..........stupid :dead:

The Power Rangers cross over was in a Power Ranger episode, just to clarify, not a Next Mutation episode. None of cast or crew of the Next Mutation were involved, including voice actors. In fact, I doubt that Mirage knew much about it at all.
I thought it was stupid. The turtles were bumbling around like idiots, constantly bumping into eachother and so on. One would almost go as far as to think that the Power Rangers people were going out of their way to make fools out of the turtles if that idea were not so silly.
To make it worse, that episode aired right before a chapter of the Unchain My Heart ark of Next Mutation, which was one of the better episodes.

Back to the topic at hand, who ever got the idea of using TMNT characters in a Power Rangers episode, I'd like to rip off his head and jam it up his ass, the Turtles deserve better than that! Any similarities between the Next Mutation and the Turtles who appeared on Power Rangers in Space are completely coincidental. The costumes may have been the same design, but they people wearing them were different, the voices were different, and they were written totally out of character.
I say that the crossover didn't suck because it was Next Mutation. It sucked because it sucked.
That all said, I remember that the Turtles did pull off some decent martial arts moves in that episode.

Shame, I would have loved to see how the relationship between Venus and April would have turned out...
Anyway, I just rented the Unchain My Heart video, the only things that spoiled the East Meets West video was those Dragon creatures, pointless fighting and the way Shredder was defeated was unforgivable. However I still watched this Unchain My Heart show with an open mind, and I tell you NM just earned by respect! I sware to god, I just could NOT stop laughing when Bonesteel came on, they way he moved, the way he talked, and how he talks to his weapons and dead animals, oh and when he'd constantly get injured by his own drugs          He reminds me of Norma from Passions. The turtles had some good lines too, but I can't remember them all, I must watch this again when my pizza arrives. Anyway the storyline was pretty good, I love Vampire movies so I have nothing against Vam Mi. I got a kick out of the fights between Venus and Vam Mi--- CAT FIGHT! So in short verdict, violence may not be this show's strong point, but the comedy makes up all the way! This the rest of the episodes were as good as what I just watched I don't know how this show failed. Three and A Half stars for Unchain My Heart Parts 1-4.

Maybye because the jokes were'nt that funny?
And maybye because it was Saban producing it, probably in the right hands, without Venus, and Dragon Lord better suited for "Power Rangers", Next Mutation would have been something HBO could have REALLY used big time.
"UnChain My Heart" deserves one big F for being so unfunny and dragged on horribly.

I'll just end up repeating what others have said if I mention how messed Venus and the jokes were. Aside from that, one of major letdowns in the Next Mutation were the action scenes.
What they should have done was let the producers of Power Rangers, MMPR Productions/Alpha Stunts/Village Roadshow, work on the show. They've done some brilliant fight scenes in that show instead of the slowpaced stuff in TNM. If you look at the Ninja Turtles/Power Rangers crossover the fight scenes involving the Turtles were much better then in The Next Mutation because MMPR productions handled it.
Although both shows were 'Saban' they were both produced by entirely different people in different locations. (Also the reason why the fight scenes in Saban's Mystic Knights were nowhere near as good as PR.) They really should have used the PR crew who were most suited to doing live action then those awful people who did The Next Mutation. Or they even could have used Village Roadshow who are currently making the latest episodes of PR.
Of course they'd still have to ditch Venus, and the jokes and all of the other stuff that was messed up in that show...

You know, that wouldn't be a bad idea for Season 3 of the new series, think, the CIA/FBI/NSA chasing down the turtles, with plans to use them for genectic studies (Cue trip to Area 51). The TMNT on the run from the CIA, printed in the media as "Threats to Cociety" I can just imagine a cartoon version of George W Bush appearing on the TV "My fellow Americans, when ever our country has been threatened I have been there. Right now we face a new threat to this great state; the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Threats to cociety and the benefit of our country. Okay, now I'm seriously getting ticked at some people here. I don't care if you liked TNM or not, but things are getting out of hand with the bashing. Despite what your opinions are, there are MANY reasons that TNM was cancelled, and not all of them have to do with the content of the show. In fact, I recall that TNM was even beating PR's for awhile in ratings.
I'm not good on dates, but wasn't the time of TNM's canellation about the time they started letting networks air shows they owned? Why go to another comapny for your shows when you can produce your own and get 100% of the profits?
I'm just asking for people to give a little respect to those who DO like TNM.

Fine. And you'll in turn get reactions explaining what we liked about it, and they'll be just as valid and should be treated with the same respect as anything anyone else has to say.
Whether anyone feels that the bashing is deserved doesn't justify the level of negativity that has become all too common on this board. Not in the least.
As far as "most people" feeling that way, don't anyone presume for an instant that you can speak for everyone else. Say whatever you want, but make it cleat that it's your opinion. because I'll be damned if I let that voice be the only one that ends up being heard.

I didn't hate The Next Mutation. Actually I rather enjoyed it. Was I there to see the PR/TMNT cross-over? You bet I was! The voice's weren't bad and it was just a goofy show that was fun to watch. The voices were provided by Ocean Westwood (famous for such shows as seasons 1 and 2 Dragonball Z, Gundam Wing, Inuyasha, X-Men: Evolution, Ed, Edd, and Eddy, and TOO many other shows to even mention). Mike was played by Kirby Morrow (Miroku, Trowa Barton, Rad from TF: Armada, Cyclops), Raph was played by Matt Hill (Carlos from TF: Armada, Havok on X-Men: EVO), Bonesteel was played by Scott McNeil (Duo Maxwell, Koga, Wolverine, Piccolo, and WAY too many other roles to mention), and there were some more notables but I don't remember them all that well.
It was certainly the worst TMNT show yet, but compared to the old toon and the new toon... a lot of shows don't stack up. It certainly wasn't the worst live action series to come from Saban. No sir... that honor likely belongs to Big Bad Beetle Borgs.

It was certainly the worst TMNT show yet
Do I need to remind you of TMNT Anime? (Shudder)
The anime had more class than "Next Basterdisation" ever did
And "Beetleborgs" RULES :)
Worst Saban series was "Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog", god pity those who watched the adventres of this Irish-cast crap..

I also prefered the anime over the TNM if simply for hearing Splinter and Shredder speak in Japanese (their native tounges) and because Krang in Japanese and all his screaming is great television.
Mystic Knights was a good show. It was also the only other thing besides Ninja Turtles that Saban had everything made for and had no old footage like Power Rangers, Masked Rider, VR Troopers, and yes even Beetle Borgs.
Beetle Borgs was awful. What the heck were those monster for? Didn't anyone else get annoyed by hearing kids voices coming out of that cool armor? Why oh why couldn't they just make them teenagers? Ugh... Saban.

I blame the success of Beetleborgs for the inclusion of Justin in "Power Rangers Turbo" :(
Ahh beleive what you want, Beetleborgs had class, though the bloody ghost Flabber irritated me
The anime really needs a look at, but it's probably in "copyright hell"

Purhaps an overlook on the word "Class" is an order.
