View Full Version : eBay Bidders Beware (TMNT #1)

There is a seller with 0 feedback selling four copies of TMNT #1, what he claims to be first prints. Possible? I guess. Likely? Not really. He's using the same picture for all four auctions and it's not even a very good picture. I've emailed him asking for a more detailed discription of it, but haven't recieved a reply yet. Naturally, the prices on each one are going rather high. What's additionally odd is that the same person has the high bid in all four auctions.
Auction #1 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=77&item=2202048265 )
Auction #2 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=77&item=2202048650 )
Auction #3 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=77&item=2202057833 )
Auction #4 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=77&item=2202058273 )
Just letting you guys know so nobody gets burned.

Is issue one really worth that much? The one at my comic shop is only 25 bucks....I guess I should pick it up....

its hard to say if they are fake or not, I wouldn't take a chance the person can't even spell "singed by eastman and laird" Whats up with that

And the same buyer has bid on all of them.....Driving the price up? Looks like it....somebody should report this to ebay, or atleast notify some of the other bidders.....

Definitly looks like a scam. I'd never buy anything from someone with 0 feedback.

I think it is scam.....the first printing is very rare but I doubt that one person has 4 copies of it.
also, one of the person's auctions is for the second issue, however, the auction has a picture of issue #1, which everyone is questioning about. See for yourself.

Yea..i might get something cheap from a 0-5 feedback person..but never something as pricey ( and as importnat) as TMNT #1

i dont like it. no way id pay first. id email him (if i were intersted in it, which im not) and ask if hed send first to someone with good feedback due to amount of money involved. if he says no, and you have a nice number of good feedbacks with very little if any negs, then i wouldnt trust him at all.

Actually, they're not very common. I've never seen one myself. It's too bad these look like a scam, 'cause I might be willing to pay up to $10 for one.

Well the first books were printed Larger than regular comic books. I have never seen those so I'm not sure if the empty space is supposed to be there.
with this kinda money involved, if you even QUESTION the item i wouldn;t go through with it...esp on ebay when the very next day you can find a better price...

Right and the extra space there is on legit copies. The most common printing of #1 would seem to be the third printing, which on the surface looks nearly identicle to a first printing. It was also from the third printing that the counterfeits were made. My guess is that it's one of those two, a third printing or a counterfeit.

The seller has now recieved feedback (http://cgi2.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=jw1109) on one of the four auctions (the one auction not won by "invisibleturtle." And yes, suspicions seem confirmed.

what's the sit?
if the guy is selling books & people get scammed out of their money, who's more at fault(my opinion of course)
not to be rude but maybe the person w/out the feed back is just a little slow, thats all, on the replys
no need to start dissing him/her just for not replying right away
also how do you know they're fake? just because they're cheap? Maybe the person just doesn't want them. Even I have comics(Necromancer being one) that I don't read(or even to want to have anything to deal with for that matter).

Umm...
1) Read the entire thread.
2) It was proved that he was selling counterfeits, so back off.

our suspecions were confirmed....it would be very odd for one person to have 5 copies of the first printing issue of TMNT.

I WAS JUST WONDERING WHATS ARE THE THINGS THAT MAKES A TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES VOLUME #1 #1 FIRST PRINTING, A FAKE? ARE THERE SECOND PRINTING OR THIRD PRINTINGS THAT MAY BE FAKE?

What makes it real? It has yellowish pages while the counterfeit issue has white pages. Also, to be sure it is a first printing, there is an advertisement for Gobbledygook #1 on the inside back cover.
I never heard of any second or third printings that are fake.. but I don't know why anyone would want to make fake copies of reprints.

And for future reference, there is no reason to post the same exact question four times. And don't use all caps, it's the same as yelling online.
