I always wondered why he had to devour Krang and couldn't just kill him some other way. I guess now we know. Brilliant move.
Wow that spoiler! I also wonder what "The last runin" is going to be about.
Bleeding Cool has a three paragraph, useless article that basically states that E&L got back together after the Toys That Made Us which featured them, and that now they are working on the comic project together.
I don't like to link to Bleeding Cool because they suck and I don't want to give them the hits. And it also sounds like they simply wrote an article based on the ad in the first post, with no other information.
But this is pretty exciting, and probably something I'll pre-order, even if only based on this single page ad without artwork.

Would Usagi have any involvement? Still its cool to see Laird back in the game for a one-off beyond inking a cover.

Well, Usagi is traditionally "the last ronin" in this universe. But Stan Sakai launched a new Usagi book only about 5 months back now. So that means either it's a perfect time for this kind of crossover with E&L - double the flair. Or there's no way that's the premise since Usagi just launched and needs to find it's footing.

I can't imagine Peter caring enough to research and catch up on all of the IDW TMNT history. I would bet it's Mirage or even standalone from Mirage... TMNT Elseworlds, if you will.

It'll either be set in the Mirage Universe or another strongly resembling it. Given the title am I the only one that thinks this will set in the future of whatever universe it's set in.
Still great to have the two of them together again.

Hopefully it's Mirage. Or maybe it's kind of nebulous.

I don't remember that. When was that?
And maybe you are right with a title like "The Last Ronin" that it is the final one. But if they enjoy doing this one together again, hopefully we can get more.
Since Ronin as no pural (47 ronin) maybe it implies that the TMNT are the last ronin. That they don't have Splinter anymore. (even if they are not samurai but ninja but whatever)

It definitely opens up a lot of questions. I find it interesting that it's being published under IDW and not Mirage. That paired with the fact that Andy Kuhn and Tom Waltz are involved give me the impression that this is more of a collaborative way to warm up some TMNT muscles as opposed to "Laird's final tale", which I assume he would want published under Mirage. This may be Peter's way of dipping his toe in the Ooze while honoring the IDW series by participating.
Pure speculation, of course. I'm aware that I'm doing a lot of assuming/guess work.

I just don't see Peter doing a bunch of research into a version of TMNT he has previously had nothing to do with.
Historically, if he wasn't involved, he didn't really have much to say or much interest in exploring it. Now obviously that can change, sure... I just don't think it has.
But it is a fair point; why is this under the IDW banner, and not Mirage? Perhaps simply visibility and marketing? A joint imprint, perhaps?

I hear ya. It's hard to imagine him wanting to write the IDW turtles, as opposed to the Mirage turtles. But I can see it being some cross-dimensional type thing, which seems par for the course with TMNT at this point.
Again, personally hoping it's something slightly more straightforward.

Forgive me for being so blunt, but I fail to see the point of this discussion. It's quite clearly a companion story to the main ongoing since even the logo font for "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" is the same. Surely it would be different if it were Mirage or something else, right?
Not only is this in the IDW continuity, it's directly linked to the main ongoing. I'm 99% sure.

Distribution. I don't think Mirage with Peter is able/willing to deal with Diamond or meet their requirements, and going the "visit miragelicensing.com to order your copy" doesn't really give this event the pizzazz it really deserves.

I will say that it is an Elseworlds-type story set sometime in the future, not necessarily a part of any given continuity (but maybe it will turn out to be!)

I feel like Jim's work got pretty insufferable when he was overtaxed. If he's going his own pace it's more easy on the eyes, but there were times during vol. 4 and tales that it was not even sub-deviantart noob level. Although, I personally liked his art from before vol. 2 a hell of a lot more. Looked more like the "gritty indie comic" aesthetic everyone assumed Mirage was anyway.

I hope to hear something about this project from Kevin or Peter soon. And yeah, Peter splitting his blog in two was a funny move. He was SO tired about the Turtles back then. It would be great if now that he is recovering from the burnout he could take an extra effort and give a proper conclusion to vol 4 with some help from Kevin. I know it's a creature of his own but, you know, end together what has been started together. Eastman and Laird at the script, Lawson doing the art and Dooney doing the covers. A dream, a... mirage.

Hey, I'd buy that ten times over... but Vol. 4 as it exists feels pretty much the opposite of what would probably interest Kevin. Which doesn't mean they couldn't sit down and come up with a "new way" to end it together, but I just don't think it's likely.

A.C. Farley doesn't seem like the ideal choice, all things considered. I'd love to see Dooney in the painted style of his Mirage Issue #4 cover - Gorgeous. I'd also like to see, just, Kevin and Pete on the cover. I know it's a good opportunity to round up the gang, but I love their collabs.
I don't see Kevin becoming a part of Volume 4 either. I think whatever they do will be separate from that - even if it is under Mirage studios.
Speaking of which, there is a bit of curiosity in the fact that none of those old Mirage artists are doing covers for IDW. Dooney, Talbot, Lawson (who does to the collection covers, to be fair.), etc, But you'd think they'd be obvious shoe-ins. Of course, I'm not privy to the business aspect, so that could easily explain the issue.

I guess that's possible and can't be ruled out, but I just can't imagine Laird would sign off on that. Or maybe he would.
A lot of variables, though. Was this just a thing Peter wrote out a while back that Eastman is reappropriating with his blessing? Is this something they're working on back to back, like the old days, only with a little more energy from Eastman in getting the script in line (maybe with help from Waltz)? It might not be as "big" as we think, but I'm intrigued in any case.

Last I checked (and I did, thoroughly, even contacting Graphix who said they "dismantled" the "expensive machine" used to make the stuff, and said they only ever made it to order, didn't have any extra laid away somewhere) Laird had some left and probably so did Eastman, but that's it. Even Lawson has been fresh out for years. Barring random people who may or may not have stockpiled the paper, it's pretty much gone.
But the effect can be duplicated digitally. I'd just love to see that "look" again. But it doesn't need to be. Killer color would be neat, too.

Yeah, the original Mirage look still has a magic about it that I would love to see duplicated. Unlike the later Image and Mirage B&W art it has a dimension and weight to it which, I think, was perfect for the Eastman & Laird (and then Lawson) style.

most of Kevin Eastman's stories honestly felt more Mirage than IDW. he never even once touched upon Tekashi Tatsuo in either of his annuals. the last annual he did (2014) he inserted a lot of Mirage characters (Renet, Lord Simultaneous, Zog). i just can't see Kevin trying to force an IDW idea into a project, especially one that was started by Peter Laird.

Huh, so it IS something Laird pulled out of the drawer and said "here," no new involvement from him in 2020, then? A bit disappointing, but still makes me curious.
1987, 1987... what was going on in 1987. Looks like Kevin and Peter only put out 3 Mirage comics that year, and that year would mark the end of their back-to-back collaboration. TMNT #10 in April, TMNT #11 in June, and TMNT #12 (which was only Laird, not Kevin at all) in September. So somewhere in the middle of where their heads were at in those, they came up with "The Last Ronin." Since that was the last year they were collaborating in the same spirit since the beginning, I think that really is the "last TMNT story" of theirs that's been whispered about for decades. It's the only place and time that it would make sense they would've come up with it, really.
So kind of looks like it's shaping up to be... "Story by Kevin Eastman & Peter Laird," "Script by Tom Waltz (and Kevin Eastman?)," "Artwork by Andy Kuhn," yeah?

Don't forget "Grunts" and "Turtle Soup"! 1987 might be considered the beginning of the "anthology" phase of the early Mirage era, so I'm guessing The Last Ronin might have been a short story (or series) that could have been included as an anchor piece to future Turtle Soups or TPB collections like Shell Shock.

The Last Ronin - I'm excited about this book. Besides a live action movie/tv series/DTV fulfilling it's potential, I'm not sure there is something else I'd want more than this, when it comes to TMNT. Peter and Kevin return - so cool. Thank you to Bobby, Kevin, Peter, Tom and everyone else who was involved in making this happen.
Potential Upcoming TMNT projects - I still love hearing Kevin vouch for the potential of a TMNT movie or project that goes back to the roots of the franchise. I really hope PD bring him back in and heed his words now that they've seen that he was probably right.
And did Kevin just say he was buddies with Tim Milller? Wow. Talk about the perfect person to direct the next TMNT film, in a lot of ways.
Would I take Denis Villeneuve instead? Yes. But here is a guy who:
1. Has the right background for it - knows how to manage a low budget, highly experienced with special effects, comedy & action.
2. comes across as a hardass who won't be pushed around by the studio.
3. enjoys the grittier side of comicbook characters.
4. just had somewhat of a flop with Terminator, and while that may or may not have been his fault, it keeps him somewhat affordable.
5. has a potential connection to the studio through Kevin.
...Ding.Ding.Ding. Get this guy on the next live-action TMNT project. I do think this has already crossed Kevin's mind.
"Rise.." - Notice how Kevin says "but I liked it" when asked about "Rise...".
"liked" as in past tense. I know we all pretty much assumed it was cancelled, but have we gotten confirmation yet? Not invested in the show, but it's interesting nonetheless.
P.S. Thanks for sharing the link, Sharman. I wouldn't have stumbled across this otherwise.

He's pretty good with David Fincher, too, I believe. Now there's a director. Dare to dream on that one! Wowzers, a Fincher TMNT joint...
Wow. Talk about the perfect person to direct the next TMNT film, in a lot of ways.
Yeah, nothing says "perfect TMNT movie director" more than the guy who single-handedly killed the Terminator franchise once and for all in his second movie ever.
Would I take Denis Villeneuve instead? Yes.
There is nothing in his body of work to suggest he would remotely be interested in something like TMNT. But I guess you never know.

95% of the problems with that film was his vision for it. And agenda.

Hardly feasible.

Did he kill the Terminator franchise? Single handedly?? You've got to be joking.
Or did the previous two decades of terrible projects kill the Terminator franchise? Seems hyperbolic to place the death of the Terminator franchise on him when his film was better received, critically, than nearly anything Terminator-related since T2.
Doesn't ring true for me.
There is nothing in his body of work to suggest he would remotely be interested in something like TMNT. But I guess you never know.
Yeah, that was my point. If you put a gun to Denis head (not worth it), he'd likely make something amazing, but it isn't happening.
It's not like Tim Miller is my dream pick here. I'm trying to walk the line between practical and satisfactory.
95% of the problems with that film was his vision for it. And agenda.
Nah. Tim Miller was working with James Cameron on James Cameron's baby. Like I said, Tim isn't the type of personality to be pushed around, but James Cameron might be the exception there. Tim Miller didn't even have 95% of a say on the recent Terminator, so that's obviously an exaggeration.

It's really closer to 100% of the say on the recent Terminator. Tim came to Cameron with the story he was passionate about telling and that's what he did, without interference from anyone (not even Cameron). Cameron's only (vastly overstated) involvement was a few sticky notes and then some say in the editing room after it was all shot, and was never even on set -- they basically paid him so they could put his name in trailers and build the marketing campaign around his "return." Plenty has come out about this over the last few months from Cameron's camp.
All of the blood is pretty much on Tim's hands. He's the one left holding the paper bag.

Incorrect. Here is a snippet:
No matter what the reason is, Miller sounds like he might be more frustrated by how difficult it was to work with James Cameron. Miller first explained their disagreement on fundamental plot points in the movie. For example, Skynet ends up being replaced with Legion, another dangerous artificial intelligence gone wrong. When it comes to Legion, Miller and Cameron disagreed on how things in the new future time should play out with Legion:
The conflicting views on how Legion should be handled is just one of the ways Tim Miller and James Cameron disagreed about Terminator: Dark Fate, with Miller noting to The Hollywood Reporter how many others revolved around lines of dialogue that he thought were “poetic and beautiful,” but Cameron didn’t like. In Miller’s words: I would fight for that line, because it was important to me. But does the audience really care? Probably not. As far as donnybrooks go, it's not that big of a deal.
Tim Miller also acknowledged that while James Cameron and producer David Ellison technically had “final cut and ultimate power,” it was his duty as a director to fight for what he thought was right for the movie.
Just a few examples. Half the press tour for this thing was about the disputes James Cameron and Tim Miller were having on set and story.
This wasn't something James just gave his blessing on and walked away, though you'd be forgiven for thinking that, if you weren't paying attention, based on past "producing" credits that he has obtained.
But no, here he was actually involved. Pretty sure he was saying that he meant to leave it to Tim initially, but he "knows a thing or two about that world" (Paraphrasing) and essentially couldn't help himself from wrestling some control back. There are more articles than the one I've linked, if anyone is interested. Shouldn't be hard to find.

I feel similar, but I'm still excited to read it. More so than any TMNT comic I can remember since probably the first issue of IDW.
It does feel like a blow after assuming it was a brand new project from the two of them. I'm not sure whether it was my fault to expect that.

As much as I still enjoy IDW, I'm losing a little interest in it and wanting something more Mirage again. Fewer mutants, more focus on the Turtles, smaller supporting cast...
So this isn't the absolute take-my-money of a true Eastman/Laird reunion, but I'm still intrigued.

Well they should at least give us a paragraph in the back of Peter lethargically explaining why he had no real interest in adding anything else to the story, along with how he hardly remembers it but luckily found the script in an old musty cabinet while searching for a lost Segway helmet. If TMNT: Last Ronin was a concept so early in Mirage TMNT's history, what existing comics (if any) do we think it might be referencing or inspired by?
A TMNT version of Old Man Logan, perhaps?

Those notes are pretty cool to see. Though maybe I'm more confused now... these are Laird's notes, yes? Is this a separate, side thing from the story/synopsis/whatever it is he drummed up with Eastman or are these notes from Laird all that exists of the project in the physical realm? Like, Laird was doing notes while spitballing in a room with Eastman, or what?

Guessing these notes will be in an Ultimate Collection style book at some point since Tom says IDW will share them.

Wonder how the art duties are going to be split? Eastman and Kuhn have very different styles. Maybe Andy will draw and Kevin will ink? Just think it could look very jarring if they alternate issues or pages.
Nothing against Andy but I still wish they'd got one of the old Mirage team to do this with Eastman since it's technically a Mirage story.

I imagine Eastman will do layouts, with Andy inking over it in his own style. Or, given the notes reference both 1987 & 2017, maybe the scenes are split between two different decades with unique styles for each. They'll make it work, I'm sure.
I'd much prefer it be a fully Mirage-led thing myself, but I can definitely appreciate the thought that folks like Tom & Andy have respectfully & passionately carved their names into TMNT history well enough to be allowed to dip their toes in the pool, so to speak.
Here's another voice echoing the disappointment that Laird isn't actively/newly involved in this. Can't say I'm surprised, but it does make the sell of this feel a bit misleading, & I'm not anywhere near as hyped as I'd be if E&L actually sat down & hashed this out with the same enthusiasm as they did 30+ years ago. Nonetheless, it's something I am very much looking forward to, & I hope that if it performs well, more comes of it.

Yeah, layouts from Eastman and art from Kuhn could work. I was just thinking of Return to New York where Lawson did the pencils for all three parts then it was inked by Laird, Talbot and Eastman. I figured Eastman inking would give it a more Mirage feel. Didn't think about split decades, that would definitely work as well.
Agree about Laird. I was hoping he'd be more actively involved, even if it was just giving notes on the script and helping to refine it rather than actually doing the writing. Hopefully he'll do a cover or two (maybe even with Eastman) for the series.

So is this the "middle-aged TMNT" story that E&L have always mentioned? It was brought up again in their commentary from the TMNT: Ultimate Collection books. I'd like to think it'll be more "Mirage set" too. But the thing that'll break the camels back is if there are any colors or covers color the Turtles' head bands as the multi-colored ones instead of all red. Thats a no, no. Gods sake its already happening in the Ultimate Collections trade edition covers, multi color head bands. If this is the only way we'll finally see this story come to fruition, then so be it. Hopefully they'll get E&L to do all the 5 issues' covers in the least.

I have no idea, but I think they'll play it ambiguous. It could be the Mirage TMNT's future... it could be the IDW TMNT's future. Obviously rainbow bandannas would make the gig be up.

Well, in theory, it'd be a gimmick for the story to be structured around. There would ideally be a reason to leave it ambiguous, perhaps by playing off character beats with high precision in interesting ways...if that makes sense.
Conceptually there is room to play, but with no purpose it would be a mess, sure.

Well, in theory, it'd be a gimmick for the story to be structured around. There would ideally be a reason to leave it ambiguous, perhaps by playing off character beats with high precision in interesting ways...if that makes sense.
And there could be clues throughout as to his identity. Fun for speculation. And/or just outright given away at the end.

If the right seeds are planted early on or if the characters are defined adequately, the clues could be really tantalizing, yeah.

Hey Andrew, I was wondering, did you consider "Road Hogs" as a possible future that could fit along with your "Odyssey" and "Origin" comics?
No, there's really no way to reconcile that story into Mirage, for a few reasons. The different eras in the Palladium material -- even the "After the Bomb" stuff -- do get big nods in "Odyssey," though. It's just... the bomb can't drop when those books say it did.

Maybe somewhat like the "Road Hogs" story was, with the aged Raphael. One surviving Turtle who's like a master. Maybe it'll even be left ambiguous exactly which one it is.
Always a welcome wrinkle to stories that could otherwise be fairly straightforward. I hope this happens.

I have been thinking about it, with just one brother left. I need the identity when reading so I know who's voice to use. That effects my reading. Also, who should it be? Does it matter? To me anyway. Also, a factor of it all is why is this Turtle the last? Was it tragic or naturally? What brought it to this point we are picking up.While it has been depicted with Donatello as the last I wondered about what it would be like in the general sense for each turtle. Leonardo would have no one to lead, Raphael no one to protect, Donatello's genius did not help, Michelangelo is the heart of the team, but there is no team to be the heart of. Michelangelo is my favorite Turtle, but thinking it through if its not ambiguous perhaps it being Michelangelo and honoring his brothers would be the most interesting.
Seeing the image and the title of this story being "The Last Ronin", I'm starting to think its not the "middle-aged TMNT" story Eastman and Laird had always randomly mentioned. I believe they called it "The Masterpiece". Maybe this is something else the two had developed in the late 1980's during their TMNT creative heyday. Which is just as exciting to see eventually. Maybe they'll get around to that other story too one day from IDW.

"About 10 years ago, I re-discovered a 20-page outline for a TMNT story that Peter and I wrote together back in 1987," Eastman said in a statement about the new series. "The story was set 30 years in the future, which, as written then, was set in 2017. Reading through it again, I drifted back to a very different time in TMNT history — back when it was all about the comics, mostly just Peter and I writing and drawing the issues, pre-everything the world would soon come to know about these characters that we'd created and called the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”

Hmm, 5 48 page prestige format. I can see a $8 price tag on this. Kevin did say while its standalone it would lean Mirage. I hope for those of us who prefer iterations outside the Mirage or Image can appreciate it to and it can give a little flavor of everytihng the way IDW did.
Another takeaway from Kevin's interview on Saturday night was he said that Peter is more retired than ever. It would be great for him to have the urge to hit the convention scene, but much like my desire to see TMNT Adventures completed I know those who are invested in Mirage want volume 4 completed. Look at the way Eastman writes, though. The Annuals. Long pages of running and gunning.
I expect the same from this, so the length doesn't surprise me. I'm genuinely expecting this to be pretty great, though, so don't take my usual complaints about the IDW Eastman Annuals as an indication that I'm making a negative comparison here.

True. I'm wondering if we will get any layouts on the level of Return to New York. The panels of Raphael taking on the Foot in the sewers are way too cool.
Speaking of the past, I was looking at some of Kevin's old illustrations lately and it's quite striking how much his style has changed over the years. I think the covers he does for IDW still look totally awesome, and I get the impression he is still pushing himself & experimenting, but he seems to have really lost a step or two since the Mirage days - or is that just me?
I know it's pretty common for artists as they age, but looking back at some of Kevin's old art, it's really killer. The line-work, the layouts, the perspective. Maybe he has just settled into his own personal style more, ala John Romita jr, but I just find it interesting.

So is SAINW the first realised version of this story? I mean it makes sense, the other episodes in that arc were based on some other comic (Super Turtles for Mike, Usagi for Leo and Planet Racers for Raph).

Overwhelmingly likely to be a total coincidence. And we've seen Peter's communications about the episode's first draft and there's nothing in there about, "oh and by the way, I have this 'Last Ronin' story in the drawer over here from 20 years ago so make sure the animators make the building like it is designed in it."

Kinda wondering which Turtles is it? Alot of of the odd TMNT future bit short stories that Mirage Studios did seemed to say that Donatello is the last turtle. Wouldn't be surprised if its Donnie in this Last Ronin. Or Ralph. I mean it could be Leo or Mikey too. But if Peter had as much co-plotted this back then, he had that thing for Donnie as his turtle.

The narrative voice sounds like Raph to me. Of course in a dystopian future were it seems like a lot of **** has gone down I imagine any one of the turtles might be a little jaded. Also it looks like he's using Sai as his main weapon which would also indicate Raph unless we see whoever it is switching between weapons in the story.
I'm more curious who he's talking to. Maybe in this continuity whoever this is isn't the last turtle but the last able bodied turtle or one that hasn't given up.
I doubt SAINW directly influenced by this but then a lot of the future stories regardless of continuity draw from the same pool of ideas like Raph losing an eye etc so I wouldn't be suprised to see some similarities.

I really liked the idea of not knowing which turtle this is but I think that would work for a short story. This story being over 200 pages, it feels like they’d have to reveal who it is at some point and maybe even see how the other turtles went out. Instinctually, you want it to be your favorite turtle but I can see a reason for why each one would make for a compelling story.

Cool video. Obviously they don't say too much about the comic. But a little stunned its gonna be bi-monthly. Ugh. Ironically that's like how the old Mirage comics came out back in the day, if we were lucky. The other thing i hope in this series is they keep the visuals from the storys layout. Tom Waltz had that image of Fugitoids head on his twitter from the old plot sketch. I just hope that is kept among the story's visuals. Anything like that from the old plot and sketches gives that sense of authenticity from Kevin and Peters ideas. Of course Kevin is doing the layouts too. Any sense of the mirage era is what what i want. Little stunned Kevin said Mike was his fave turtle. Only for sentimental reasons since he was the first turtle. I always thought it wouldve been Ralph as he always loved him.

I'd see it as an overall win. Hell, Miller can still script and do great dialogue as far as I'm concerned. I'd still perk up were he to do a TMNT short.

Ok I never did this before in my entire life but, how do I preorder a variant from this comic in Canada? Somebody can help me with that?
Hope that the comic store in question ships outside the US
But you consult here: https://tmnt-ninjaturtles.com/tmnt-the-last-ronin-01-idw/
Pick your variant(s), go to the websites in question, and purchase them online like you would with Amazon etc.

I remember Kevin once saying that Frank Miller used to be very friendly with him and Peter when they'd see him at cons then when the franchise started to take off he was less friendly.
John Byrne used to say that Frank should have sued E & L for money or at least so that every iteration of TMNT feature a disclaimer saying something like "With acknowledgement to the work of Frank Miller."
But that's John Byrne... Quite the opinionated man, he is.
As far as this story... I think I'll skip it.

That'd be ideal for sure. Maybe by issue #5 Peter will be willing to ink something. Wishful thINKing.
I like the Santolouco cover but the prices are ridiculous on it. I may go for the Mike Rooth though.

Very nice. I'm having a hard time finding it for an affordable price, but if anyone knows a place, please let me know. So many great covers. I'm seeing some on Ebay that aren't yet listed on the official site.

There really should be. That's the least PL could do, contribution-wise. Not that he "owes" it anything.

I don't get this why would Kevin and Peter owe anything to Miller? Not like he owned Daredevil to begin with. I can understand some elements kinda derived or nods to Miller's stuff but that's all. More like an appreciation to Frank IMO. He should've been happy about that.

Eh... he might be onto something. Though it'd have been Marvel suing Kevin and Peter, not Frank Miller (Miller doesn't own any of the Marvel stuff he did). Like, evidence presented to a judge and jury comparing things like the Stick to Splinter, the Hand to the Foot (and both being similar ninja clans operating in NYC), the literal shared origins of Matt Murdock and the TMNT, probably a ton of panels "borrowed" stylistically from certain Miller Daredevil panels into TMNT. There could be a case there. I don't know if Marvel would win, but it'd probably be a fairly valid back-and-forth. There's probably even other stuff in there borrowed I've never even noticed before.

Could have just been Frank being cranky during his bender years. The guy seems to have softened up a bit. I can?t imagine him being anything but grateful to Kevin but I?m obviously guessing.

Nothing concrete. Just this hearsay that Galactus picked up and shared with us.
Man, sometimes I forget just how influential Frank is on the comic industry. His work on Batman is seismic all by itself, but then you have his legendary work on Daredevil and the fact that his fingerprints are all over TMNT. What a guy!

I remember it from a video of a con panel Kevin did around the time the 2014 movie was in production. I could be completely misremembering and even then it could have just been a made up joke on Kevin's part. So don't take it too seriously.
Still...I can totally see Frank Miller getting a bit Little Richard about something so influenced by him getting other people so much money.

True, though he pretty much did nothing else relevant afterward. Just 300.

300’s film adaption really cemented it into pop-culture. There was Sin City as well. Dude was a beast.
But the ripple effects of his work must go further than the work itself at this point.

I enjoyed both The Master Race and Golden Child. Neither are as good as DKR but I can say that about most comics I read. His recent work is still better than a lot of the content that is pushed out by DC and Marvel these days.
It's like he's still "got it", he just doesn't fire on all cylinders like he did in his prime.

I think it was just for the generally blatant artistic swipes particularly from Ronin (the cover of TMNT #1) and just the acknowledged general influence that E&L took from Miller's work in general (not just Daredevil) that Byrne and A LOT of 80's comics creators had problems with. They just saw it as a credit-less homage or a rip-off at the time. I don't agree with those sentiments (E&L owe nobody anything) and their opinions may have changed since the 80's but there it is.
People have been sued for less but I doubt anything would have held up in court. I'm kind of an expert on the history of comic book legal battles and I do know that had it been anybody with any kind of ego (like Todd McFarlane) E&L might have needed a lawyer.
But yeah, E&L have been very honest about their influences and I doubt the situation between them and Frank is a bad one.... Frank doesn't begrudge them @ all. IF he had any animosity toward them in the past, it wasn't directly because of TMNT. Frank used to be kind of grumpy in the early 90's over how some in the industry treated him in general after his work on Sin City didn't take off immediately like DKR did (though it eventually found a huge audience). I think Frank's star started to dim after DKR and he was probably, quite possibly, pretty bitter about it... for a while. I don't know what his feelings on E&L are these days though. Probably not much has changed.

I think I'm just kind of done following IDW's TMNT in general. If this going to be an out of continuity one-off comic, a single multi-part story, that's not related to anything else, then yeah, I'm there. Otherwise, nope, nope, nope... don't want to.

DKR was not a particular futur to any Batman.

I'm so there!Especially if I can count it as an official end to Mirage! That would be cool.I would consider it a proper official Mirage thing only if Laird was really involved. This is just a decades old unused idea that Eastman decided to flesh out with the help of Tom Waltz. It can turn out to be a great story and we all will be happy if that happens, but this will not be an OFFICIAL end to the Mirage series.

If Laird is sufficiently involved in the right way, I will count it as an end to the Mirage books, even IF it's not official, in much the same way I see DKR as the final word on Batman.
I can still enjoy all of the great Mirage stories but count THIS as the end, just as I can enjoy all the great Batman stories of the 40's-early 2000's but count DKR as the end.
That said, there's always the possibility that The Last Ronin is a complete turkey, a real turd of a story and that the hype wasn't worth it, but with the team involved in writing and art, that's a near impossibility at this point.

Laird's involvement seems pretty cut and dry. Take it or leave it. At some point in 1987 he and Eastman hashed out an outline for this. Then... people wanted to run with it now. If Laird is involved with this in any new way we haven't been told. It appears to be just that. Atm.

Well, he worked on it for a long time after Kevin left, pretty exclusively, only working on turtles. He did the 2003 show and I imagine he's just happily retired and rich and just doesn't care about the TMNT stuff that he wasn't passionate about or the stuff that wasnt personal to him.
