View Full Version : Shredder? But... How?

That Matt Guy

He got crushed to death in the first movie (I assume), and then he came out of a pile of garbage in the second movie. WTF? Was he just sitting in that trash heap the whole time? HOW DID HE SURVIVE GETTING SMASHED? Any ideas?

I don't recall any questions on how he survived.

The secret of the Ooze is good to me. I know that Shredder in the sequal has more heavier helmet and different armor. But I did think the New Line Co. shouldn't take those Complant letters about how wrong the first movie was, seriously.

Anyway I have nothing against sequal's plot.

I always loved the bit where he got crushed. Just the way Casey says 'oops!'

Nosferatu
12-31-2003, 11:27 AM
My only idea of how Shredder may have survived is that Casey didn't let it flatten all the way (though he did) and Shredder was caught in an empty space.

Okay, so my theory sucks shell. It's best not to put too much thought into it.

No, the shredder was holding his mask in his hand as he fell. Once he landed, Casey came, pulled the lever, and went "oops!" sarcastically, crushing shred's armour; his mask. I agree With P.P. The second movie was very good. though i don't have the same to say 'bout the third...

I loved the costumes and the movie. Sure, they weren't quite as realistic as the first costumes, but they were still very good, in my opinion. And for the longest time the second movie was actually my favorite of the three. Now the first one probably takes the crown.

He attcked splinter with the spear in his hands, and when he was hanging he freed one hand to throw a knife at Splinter, so how excatly was he holding his mask again? They Showed how his helmet crushed, there is no doubt about that.

Personally, I'd have gone with Tatsu to take over and do something.
The 2nd flick had it's fun moments at times but the premise was silly. Doesn't mean I didn't like it. So what the hell was the secret anyways??? One element they SHOULD HAVE NEVER put in the movie, vanilla ice and his ninja crap rap hahah ugh embarrasing.

Well I don't see why a movie is bad just because its a comedy.

Anyway thats what movie 2 was, an action comedy. Kind of like a Jacky Chan movie I guess you could say.

People have to try an appreciate is as that, since its not trying to be more of a darker comic like movie like the first was.

I guess that would explain why I like the second movie so much - I'm a huge Jackie fan.

It's appears to be that they tried to appeal to a certain audience more with each flick. The first one seems to be directed towards those who were passionate fans. The second seems to be made for a simple, but entertaining family flick. The third seems to be made for children, mostly.

That's just my take on it, anyway.

Some like TMNT as cheesy/campy comedy, I like it as an action adventure with good story. That's what the second movie was definetly lacking, and thats why it flopped.

And yes Ooze was made into a kids movie in puspose, because of parents complaining how violent and dark the first one was.

Parents really piss me off sometimes. They need to stop their bitching about stupid things. I saw the first TMNT movie when I was 6 and I had no problem with it and nobody I knew had a problem with it. It's just stupid parents who need to realize that media is not responsible for everything wrong with this country. Other countries have the same movies we do and yet they have a dramatically lower rate of violence. Besides, when I saw the 1st TMNT movie I thought nothing of how it was more violent than the cartoon or anything like that, I just thought it was a funny movie and I'm sure that's what most kids thought at that time.

Karpo_007

The only reason I can think to why I don't like TMNT1 as much as I could is because of the grainly quality of the film.

I didn't really care that Shredder was alive in the second movie, if everyones pissed because Shredder didn't get killed in the garbage truck, I'm surprised your not pissed because Jaws didn't get killed when A) An Eygptian building fell on him B) He fell out of a moving train. C) His car fell off a cliff. D) His parachute failed to open. E) His cable car smashed through a wall F) His boat went over a waterfall. And G) Re-entering Earth's atmosphere.

The only thing about Secrets of The Ooze that bothers me is that Super Shredder; how does his armour mutate? The ooze only works on flesh.

I won't go one but I will say this, if your upset over the last two films, my lego TMNT film will make up for it; the script I've got is excellent!

I do see the point of people asking this question but who really cares? If you wanna talk crap about somthing the third movie is full of it.

BUT! If you want to bring up a point, how come in the second movie Shredder has heavier armor and has turned "Super" he still dies when the bridge falls on him but not when crushed by a garbage truck.

But then again who really cares, both movies ruled.

Did the Turtles even mention anything like "How did Shredder survive" in the second movie? I remember Raph talking about how Shredder fell off the building (He spoke of it as if it happened a long time ago, which makes me wonder how long Shredder lounged out in that junkpile)

No, I don't think they did (I just watched the movie a few days ago).

As for how long it's been? I'm guessing about a year or so. It's probably not immediately afterwards because April has an apartment in SotO (she was living at the old farmhouse after her home above the antiques shop was destroyed) and everything seems pretty set up in her place, so I'm guessing it was a year or so since his fall into the dumpster.

Yeah, the whole premise of Shredder surviving the garbage truck seems a tad weird to me now I think of it...remember on one of the X-Files near the end of the series they pushed that alien guy off the roof and he landed in a garbage truck (or was it a garbage truck :-? ) and he was mangled beyond recognition? Course his body came back together but that's beside the point, he wasn't human.

Anyhow, I find it funny that parents gripe about these movies. My parents were very careful in what they let us watch growing up and they never had problems with the first two movies. I never even saw the third when it came out because I had lost interest in TMNT at the time.

I like the first two movies mostly for nostalgic purposes, even if Ooze is somewhat cheesy yes. If I want good and believable action I'll watch something else, if I want fun I'll watch TMNT. The reason I don't like the third movie as much is because I saw it only a few years ago and I haven't watched it nearly as much.

Incidentally, anyone noticed the third movie has found its way into the $7.50 DVD bins at Wal-Marts? Found quite a few copies in there, it was like the only movie that half-way interested me in there. I'm guessing maybe it didn't sell quite as well as the first two, cuz they're still on the shelves.

I never got to see the second movie in the cinema despite begging and pleading for someone to take me, lol, and as you said, I wasn't too bothered about seeing the third (although I did rent it for a bday party when I was about 10 but nobody wanted to watch it so i ended up watching it the next day, lol). I did finally get to see TMNT2 when I bought the double disc DVD earlier this year.

Well, he probably knew where they were meeting Shredder, and so showed up at the construction yard. They weren't there, so I guess he tried next door, at the club.

As for the dancing thing, they were already found out, so why not go for it! People will write it off as an extravagant publicity stunt and forget it by next week.

When I want something in the background and for some reason i can't put in a DVD of the new cartoon, I'll pop in Secret of the Ooze, as I relegate viewings of the original movie as a sacred, twice a year event, and the third movie just makes fear the depths to which the turtles could succumb.

I'll tell you this, I'm glad they made the second movie second. Considering the tone of the original toon, it was almost a sure bet the style of SOTO was they way they were going to go for the first movie. Somehow, we ended up with a great first movie. The second movie is good for a kids movie... I look at it kind of like Pokemon or the Power Rangers movie. It's not crap, just kind of a joke movie, just to be fun and keep the kids quiet for 2 hours. (Please excuse me if the Pokemon/Power Rangers movies are crap, I've never seen them.)

I'll tell you this though, if I had been a teen in the early 90's, I would have been pretty disgruntled when I went to theaters all hyped for the sequel and saw Michelangelo fighting with sausage links.

I always just accepted that shredder was just that damn bad that he could survive a fall like that!

I like the second film more then the first, I do wish it wasn't so colorful and had more weapon based combat like the first one, but I though the story was fine. I thought the comedy level was consistent with the first one. What was so cartoony about 2? (other then super shredder heh)

The third one had some bad dialog and even worse costumes, but at least they had more weapon based combat! the worst part of TMNT 3 was the ending I still don't understand why the hell Walker just ran away like a sissy!

I'd say a year or so. Maybe he hibernated in the garbage the whole time haha.. They never really touch on the timeline.... if it were only a week or so, she sure got an apartment set up pretty damn quick.

I always figured being the "highest paid reporter" in NY, she has a couple pay check advancements, found a nice high end apartment over the weekend and had the new furniture delivered right away. Hrm. This isn't right with out leo chiming in:

I already came up with the perfect "Director's Cut" ending for TMNT2, some ways back.

The TMNT face off against SuperShredder, when suddenly, Shredder removes his mask and helmet to reveal KEVIN NASH himself. Nash's "nWo Wolfpac" Music plays as he proceeds to JackKnife Power Bomb each of the TMNT off the pier in rapid-fire succession. Hell, he could take out Vanilla Ice too, for good measure. Of course, there's still ten minutes left in the movie, so Kev proceeds to dip into his usal bag of tricks as he stands in front of the camera, mic in hand... tossing his hair, making jokes about Scott Hall being in rehab, "shout-outs to HBK", jokes about Lex Luger and Viagra, and statements like "the only thing real about this movie is the money"... this continues through the closing credits, with Kev not stopping even after he is cut off by the screen fading to black.

If the movie ended that way, it woulda been Oscar-worthy. Seriously.

There. Much better.

Keno was "filler" for Casey Jones.

I thought he was a replacement for Danny.

I consider both Keno and Professor Perry to be replacements for Casey Jones, but that's probably just me.

The person representing Danny's role would probably be that one Foot ninja that brought the Dandelion to Shredder and Tatsu.

I agree with you on this.

Each of the TMNT Movies have a kid charater on their back.

I know Casey Jones should of been in the second but the New Line Co. just had to take those complaints from the angey mob of parents.

Oh well, I'm not disappointed.

Let's not forget Shredder was defeated by a speaker.

And ended up killing himself at the Docks.

What about if Shredder's helmet fell off of his head when he landed in the garbage truck but his body was further inside the truck where there were nice, pillowy bags of trash? Then the compactor would have crushed just his helmet while Shredder was simply being crushed on all sides by bags of trash, which wouldn't necessarily kill him. That's what I always thought happened. The helmet is crushed. You never see him physically being crushed.

What I want to know is, what kind of police leaves the body of the suspected leader of a crime ring inside the garbage truck? I'm sure NYPD would have a few questions for the leader of the Foot since they were the cause of the massive crime wave. I would think somebody would have explained to the police what happened since there were a ton of witnesses (Casey, April, and all those punk kids). Shredder's body should have been taken out of the garbage truck, checked for life signs, and either rushed to the hospital under police watch or taken to the morgue. Dead or alive, there is no way he should have ended up in the junkyard, unless NYPD are just a bunch of morons and don't know what to do at a crime scene.

I think Shredder could have easily survived the fall into the garbage truck if he had landed on the bags of trash. His helmet could have easily fallen off on impact and then been crushed in the compactor instead of Shredder himself. I just can't figure out why he ended up in the junkyard in the sequel. Shoddy police work and obvious plot holes are the only things I can think of. I still thought both movies one and two were great. I like the first movie for its darker look and closeness to the comics, but the second movie is a lot of fun, too. I'm not even going to talk about the third one. Ugh!

Well, that still doesn't solve how Shredder had his helmet on in the second movie. If it was crushed without him wearing it, how was he able to get it back on his head?

I don't think the writers of the Ooze gave so much thought to the subject...

Purhaps he found it crumpled in the trash pile and pressed the dents out.

They didn't give much explaination in TNM either, Shredder mutated at the end of TMNT2, so how come he was back to normal in the live action series?

He probably had a spare helmet, if we're going to nitpick. It's not impossible that he came back to the hideout later and got another one. I mean, if you're going to be a villain of such caliber, you better have wardrobe replacements on hand and ready!

Shredder was in TNM?

He was in the first two episodes, Venus defeated him. Dragon Lord then stole Shredder's roll as the lead villian, though I understand Oruko Saki returned in the episode The Enemy of My Enemy.

Oh dear god :( All four original turtles couldn't take him in the movie, only to have the unnecessary character defeat him in a show? Arrgh!

Well in the end it's a pure shame, Shredder was really cool in TNM; I mean look at his mask. Shame he was so short-lived.

That's his mask, not his helmet. He took off his mask when Splinter showed up on the roof top in the first movie.
