Tokka and Rahzar

Just wondering what the general opinion is on the cartoon versions. In my view, they're much better then the movie versions and not only because they actually formulate real words. I think the cartoon succeeded where the movie failed mainly because those two actually had personalities, which makes them much more interesting characters. Although I can't say I'm fond of Tokka's constant whining, Rahzar is actually pretty cool and a decent fighter. It's too bad we didn't see more of them in the original show. Never could quite understand though, why Tokka was so helpless and Rahzar always had to bail him out. I guess this is a mystery for the ages.

The fact that they just appeared out of the blue with no idea as to their origin, however, cancels out all of the things that were "good" about them in their cartoon versions. I think they made cartoon versions of them only so that the characters could get some more publicity and to satisfy the "fanboys" after the release of TMNT 2.

That's not to say, however, that the episode they appeared in (Dirk Savage: Mutant Hunter!) was totally bad. It had some edgy moments in it, accompanied by the musical predecessor to the score of the Red Sky episodes.

actully you guys are wrong it did say where they and the rest of the new mutants had come from....they said something along the lines of there sure have been allot of mutants ever since shredder raided the zoo or something like that....that's fine enough for me I think rahzar was awsome in the episode it's a shame tokka was so moronic. but I did like how they were more grown up and not so childish like in the movie.

I liked Tokka and Rahzar from the cartoon. I thought they were much more interesting there than they were in the movie. As Shredder said, "They are stupid!"

I had no idea those two appeared on the cartoon. I was on my Turtle hiatus from the middle to the end of the series, so I probably missed this...I would like to see it.

If you've ever seen "Invasion of the Punk Frogs," the episode Tokka and Rahzar were in is kind of like that. And the mutant hunter featured in both episodes is voiced by the same actor, ironically enough.

Now I did see the episode were the punk frogs (Genghis, Napoleon, etc.) came into existence in the show, but its been sooooo long I can't remember a thing hardly. Man, I need to re-watch this ep...need to find it.

If I remember correctly, this was one of two episodes in which all four frogs appeared in the same episode. The other one was "Leatherhead: Terror of the Swamp." After that, however, the most you ever saw was two or three frogs.

But I could be mistaken. :goofygri:

In an ep about giant bugs, only Genghis appeared, I guess to promote his figure again. Then another ep was about Napoleon, just in time for his figure.. and although the other frogs were in it too, Napoleon was the most featured.

And the kicker about the action figures for the frogs is that they looked nothing alike. I don't know what Playmates was thinking.

After "Leatherhead: Terror of the Swamp" aired, the only episode to even feature three of of the frogs at once was "Dirk Savage: Mutant Hunter." And even then, only two of them actually had dialogue!

Yeah, Napolean was the figure I was thinking of when I made that post. The action figure's face and head looks like it was boiled in acid before being sold in stores.

Putrescent: That was still "out of the blue" in a way. They just all of a sudden appeared with no backstory, no development, just all of sudden WHAM! There they are.

To be fair though, you know that if they did appear with a story and background, it wouldn't be the old cartoon you're watching.

I'm just happy Tokka and Rahzar weren't stupid in the cartoon like they were in the movie. I still cringe every time I hear those mutants in the film go, "MAMA!"

Well Raph did say in one ep, "Great that's just what this show needs, more mutants!" Of course, I totally agreed with him. I think it was better in the old days when it was just a few mutants, besides the main ones, here and there.
