I too am a fan of the old mirage comics, i just started reading them though, but I myself grew up with the cartoon. I can't tell you how much joy it brings to watch the turtles all goofy and happy like, it makes me remember how the days where when i was a kids....i really wish they would do this

for the cartoon, use the same animators and writiers as the old cartoons and then maybe release some Animated videos or show some late night cartoons on Comedy Central or HBO, show some darker turtle stories, with some animation like in the spawn cartoons

just some input froma newbie

I too share that feeling for i grew up with the toon too, and it is my favorite tmnt universe...however, there were enough episodes in the old cartoon so now i would like to see something new and different.

Yeah, I agree. The old cartoon was the old cartoon. It will forever remain untouched and preserved in time for us to enjoy over and over...

But there comes a time when the new age is amongst us and it would be refreshing to see something new. I like how this new cartoon looks, acts, and feels. And it sounds like it'll have the same zany humor that was present in the first cartoon, minus the balloony/chuild-like appearence the Turtles had then. Asides, I'm also a Mirage comic fan, so I think seeing more of the comic book feel in a animated show is great.

See it like this, there was the Batman show of the 50-60's... but then there is also the modern Batman 90's. But exist together, with their own set of fans. I think it's great that the TMNT are trying to go for the same idea.

Like everyone else here I too have some sentimental attachment to the old cartoon, but let be terribly honest for a moment.....the old cartoon was AWFUL! Yes you've heard me correctly AWFUL! The Turtles were supposed to be action heroes; instead they were turned into smily faced little green people that were obsessed with pizza and bad jokes. Even the villians weren't menacing.

To me the only real TMNT is the Mirage incarnation. If the new cartoon can do anything to deliver the feel of the Mirage comics then I'll be ectstatic. It's time the TMNT are treated as the action heroes they were in those comics. If the new series delivers action packed adventures, interesting stories, returning and new characters, and some classic TMNT humor (which the mini-comic, character artwork, and the statements of Peter Laird seem to suggest it will) then in my opinion it should be light years better than the original.

I agree with you to some point ratking, but i think it wasn't awful... Yeah it's true that it got boring after the first season but there are good eps here and there... I grew up with the show too and thats why i cant hate it... If Mirage would have been my first contact with tmnt i think i wouldn't like the cartoon... Peter Laird himself has stated that he got bored with the series...

I have really high hopes for the new series, and Im begining to think that it will be what i want.

I too grew up with the cartoon, bit I agree with Rat King. I wouldnt be back into theTMNT today if not for the comics. I too hope they change it...a lot.

the 5 1987 eps arre like the ideal cartoon, I would keep all the goofiness and pizza which is part of the TMNT universe and make the fight scenes not slapstick and perhapes keep the Shredder like he was in the beginning

Karpo_007
08-30-2002, 04:03 PM
Well the gofinessis not part of the original tmnt universe.... But there are humour in mirage comics. I think the same kind of humor wil be seen in the new cartoon.

08-30-2002, 04:20 PM
hmm.. you're probebley right, like in th mini foxbox comic book but I think we may see Mikey at least make his usual bad jokes :D

 oh well I'll miss th snide remarks and sarcasim but I guess it wouldn't fit in the new mirage based enviroment

Karpo_007
08-30-2002, 05:40 PM
Yeah mirage's humour is more mature...

Nturtle

Karpo_007
08-30-2002, 05:47 PM
Well if i had to choose between old cartoon and mirage guess what i would choose...

Nturtle
08-30-2002, 05:50 PM
hmmm... thats a tough one... :P I've only read a couple Mirage comic books truthfully so maybe I can't make a proper judgement

Karpo_007
08-30-2002, 06:02 PM
You really should! It's the best that tmnt can be by far!

HorseTechie
08-30-2002, 06:05 PM
Ahhh... ye old Mirage, I pick! Yeah... it wasn;t the cartoon that won me over. It was the first movie and the comics I found after that that made me a fan. :P

But the humor, I think, will be something like in the new comic (for those who are reading that). Raph is making snide remarks there too. Those don't have the same charm as in the original cartoon, but that's probably cause I'm reading it.

Simply put, I'm not gonna cast judgement on the new show until it is actually seen! :tpizza:

I just hope they say cowabunga at least once, that word brings back a ton of memories

are they going to use the same voices as the old one

I just hope they don't screw up the cartoon and put a bunch of Anume crap, i am getting so sick of that stuff, this is AMERICA not JAPAN

Nickokapo
08-30-2002, 07:31 PM
Well they said cowabunga in the theme song, so i'll assume it'll be on the cartoon too :D
And i've readed somewhere in the forums that they're going to use new voices...i liked the old voices better, but if they are going to change the cartoon and make it more darker, i guess they also have to use voices that fit the characters :)

Well I must say that after reading the Bio section of the Foxbox website, I think that the new cartoon is heading in the right direction. They certainly seem to have gotten Leo and Raph right anyway.

Also the outline of the 1st episode is an interesting combination of the first 2 issues of the Mirage TMNT. I'm very impressed, and can't wait for the new series.

Me neither! And im clad that they wont kill shredder in the first ep!

Nickokapo
08-31-2002, 07:54 AM
Yeah...and the mousers are in the first episode, that means baxter will appear early in the series, perhaps in the first episode, too :thyper:

Mike
08-31-2002, 08:14 AM
Well, they better stioo kill Shredder. I agree about anime, they are putting the worst of it out over here, and giving it a bad rep. No, it will not be anime, look at it, and look who's animating! The dudes who do MIB the Series, Jackie Chan, and Im not sure, but I think Big Guy and Rusty.

Karpo_007
08-31-2002, 08:43 AM
Well they must kill shredder if they ant to use the return to new york plot... And i can't think why they wouldn't...

Nickokapo
08-31-2002, 08:54 AM
They should kill shredder...In every episode!!

I'm thinking of doing a TMNT flash for the technodrome, just for fun, but I'm not sure what to do, either something with pizza, shredder beating up the turtles or maybe something else or what?? :-?

Nickokapo
08-31-2002, 09:54 AM
Shredder beating the turtles...that's a good idea! it's the technodrome site afterall :goofygri:

Well I must say that after reading the Bio section of the Foxbox website, I think that the new cartoon is heading in the right direction. They certainly seem to have gotten Leo and Raph right anyway.
Yeah, and I loved how they described Don as a natural born engineer. Engineers rock! :goofygri:

It really does seem they are going by the Mirage profiles too, cause Mike is portrayed as Raph's buddy here. (as opposed to the first cartoon, where they don't seem to pick favorites, or in the movies, how Mike and Don like each other).

Karpo_007
08-31-2002, 11:52 AM
Well in the first cartoon they are not brothers... Atleast they call each other friends. And splinter is not their father. Splinter always calls them"my students". Maybe this series will change that...

First impressions really do work. Those who grew up with the original cartoon are apprehensive about this darker cartoon. Those who grew up with the comics can't wait. It all depends upon what your tastes are. If you like goofy light-heartedness, the cartoon is what you'd like. However, if you like Turtles with attitude, Turtles with anger, Turtles with an edge, you would like the comic.

I am not trying to say that one is better than the other. All I'm saying is that different people like different versions of the Turtles.

wadew, where did you get that avatar anyway?

I just think that a more serious TMNT cartoon is great for everyone. Judging from the first episode summary it sounds like there will be a more continuing storyline and we'll get to know the characters more. This is especially good because a lot of TMNT fans now are older because when they first starting following them they were about 9-13 years old and now they are in their late teens/early twenties (like me). Also the turtles are NINJAS so they should fight and be disciplined. Which they were absolutely not in the old cartoon.

Also I too like Wadew's avatar :).

I am eagerly awaiting the new cartoon. I love the fact that they're using fresh artwork, and a new angle! Yes, I grew up on the old cartoon, but I love new TMNT offerings! It would be a waste to make the new show totally like the old one.

I cant wait to see it either! :D I look at the old cartoons, and suddenly realize how goofy it was, but now i happily await some more mature and intelligent characters...

I do wonder how the relations aspect will be...I mean, Dan Berger did say in a recent interview that they were going to be a family, so i'm hoping that will be true... :D
