Question. Why haven't they put the original TMNT seasons in DVD sets? There are alot of good shows in DVD sets: Star Trek The Next Generartion, The X-Files. But if they can put crappy bs shows like Freinds and Sex and the City in DVD sets, why not our beloved turtle heros!? It's time we stand up and fight for justice! :D

Well i hope they dont give the turtles new characters like they did with the last seasons of the old cartoon...but they will base it in the mirage comics, so most of the characters you know will probably be there :)
As for the attitudes...well they probably change that a bit, but they will still be the turtles :wink:

I want to see the entire series, from 1987-1996, on DVD. If not, then I'm going to buy all the episodes on vhs. One way or another, I'll get every single episode. I don't understand why they'd just release one season or certain episodes. If you're going to go, why not go all the way? Surely whoever makes these DVDs knows that if they don't get the whole series on DVD, there will be a lot of upset people out there.

Anything short of 193 episodes just won't cut it for me. I am a die-hard fan, and when I hear that the series is coming out on DVD, I expect the ENTIRE SERIES to be on DVD. I don't care if they come out seasonal sets or just everything in one fell swoop.

Yeah, I'm surprised that the old toon didn't make it to DVD yet. I've seen a lot of obscure things on DVD (like silent movies...why would I pay that much money for a silent movie?!). TMNT definitely deserve it.

I only have my VHS tapes, and my "Three-Hour Turtles Extravaganza!" ;). A DVD would be really awesome, especially if they didn't do it half assed and gave us some cool extras. Perhaps, like the sketches that were used to plan the look for the cartoon, and interviews from Peter Laird, etc...

With DVDs you can fit 4, 1 hour episodes, so you should be able to fit 8 turtle episodes on a disc. I say if you look at how big the seasons are, and the number of seasons, you can divide up the series into maybe 2 DVD sets. Set 1 seasons 1 -5 and set 2 seasons 5-10. I think this is the most logical thing to do.

they should do the whole set with special features, the 95 gi joe eps totalled to 13 dvds and 4 of them just had 5 because they were mini series, so it would be about 27-28 dvds. If there was a pre-release on ebay, I'd buy it instantly

Oh and i was thinking, if tmnt 2 and 3 come out on dvd, one of the extras could be the behind the shells video that shows how the movies were made...but then again, it's like 30 minutes, i doubt they'll put that in the dvd...

Already stores like Circuit City (I think) are phasing out sales of VCRs and VHS tapes.

And VHS tapes don't last forever, either (10 years is pretty good for a tape that's watched semi-regularly).

Unless, of course, you have a phatty video-in card that you can use to convert your VHS tapes to AVI or MPEG.

I totally agree with you speedracer...one of the most important reasons why i don't like vhs is that they dont last much...every time you watch it, it slowly decreases its quality...besides, my vcr isnt working very well so it's a mess to tape something, i can't even watch a tape, because the screen jumps, but that might be a tv problem, not a vcr problem, and in a dvd or avi/mpg, you can choose which ep to watch easily, with a tape you need to fast forward or rewind untill you find the ep you wanted to watch...that doesn't bothers me so much but still, i think it's kind of annoying.
The only reason why i taped stuff from tv is because i want to capture it when i have a video capturing card...
So if they would release the whole series in vhs...i wouldn't buy it...if i can't buy the dvd set, then there's less chance i'd buy a vhs one.But anything that they release would be cool anyways, i guess, because there may be people that doesn't have a dvd player, so they could get the vhs...and then there'd be people that doesnt have a dvd player but they have a vcr...or maybe they have both but they couldn't get any eps :D

Oh yeah, another good thing the dvd has...audio and sound...its difference with the vhs is too big...in a dvd, video is usually clear...and the audio, they can put dolby or whatever they want in a dvd..and vhs has some mixed colors, audio isnt very good...sometimes video is fuzzy...some vhs aren't used or haven't been watched too much, those aren't too bad in video and sound, but still, they're not as good as a dvd...plus they will eventually decrease it's quality =[
I dont mind about the extras, but i guess they cant put much extras in a vhs...only video extras :ohwell:
edit: i forgot about subtitles and audio tracks!If a vhs has subs, maybe that's a good thing if you don't understand the original languaje, but if you do, it can be kind of annoying...in a dvd you can choose various subtitles...or none if you want..it even have different languages to listen it in...I always thought those 2 features were pretty good and useful.

They've already released tmnt 2 dvd ripped in divx ( http://isonews.com/release.php3?releaseid=60394 ) but i already have that one in cristal clear quality...so i think ill just wait for the tmnt 3 dvd rip, the copy i have is a low quality vhs rip :D

Well...if you want to play them in your dvd player you gotta check if your dvd player is compatible with vcds (Most of them are anyways so i don't think you need to worry about that, but if you really wanna make sure you can go to www.vcdhelp.com [great site ;) ] and check the compatibility list) but if it is, then it should play fine on your dvd...to play them on pc all you need is a pc and some media player, by example windows media player, since vcds are just mpg files it should play fine :)
Kizer made his own tmnt vcds by converting his avi divx eps to mpg, i think it's pretty cool ! I hope that answers your question :D

If they release the original TMNT series on DVD of all the seasons, This would be the most priced collection of the TMNT cartoons ever, Owning every single episode will continue the whole legacy of the original series, Even though I have a lot of episodes of the original series on VHS that I recorded myself, Its better to have a DVD version with better picture quality and sound, I remember those days waking up very early saturday mornings turning on CBS watching the new episodes of TMNT and recording them at the same time. :)

True!I think a tv-out is even better than vcds because the vcds are mpeg files, meaning you can only put 3 episodes in a cd and quality will be the same, while with a tv out you can watch em whatever the format it is, including divx...meaning there'd fit like 12 eps in a cd.
Heck, you don't even need cds you can watch it from yer hard disk if you still haven't burned the eps to cds :ohwell:

I am expecting a lot from this DVD set of the Ninja Turtles cartoon. If only certain episodes make it to the DVD format, I won't be happy. When I hear that the Ninja Turtles cartoon will be on DVD, I expect the ENTIRE SERIES, not just a few random episodes.

I could do without any special features, although I wouldn't be opposed to them. But I would buy the DVD set(s) for the episodes.

It's all 193 episodes or nothing. Surely the makers of these DVDs will know that if they don't bring every episode to the DVD format, they'll be disappointing a lot of people.

And even though I know it would probably be pricey to buy the entire series all at once, I'd rather do it that way than buying seasonal sets. Of course, it seems as though everything in this world is based around money, so if the makers of these DVDs really wanted to, they could suck us fans dry of our money.

There would be seasonal sets; special edition seasonal sets; super special edition seasonal sets with original cels from the cartoon; super double-duper special seasonal sets with contests inside to meet the real Ninja Turtles . . .

Deathknight brings up a good point that has been sitting in the back of my mind for some time now. I think the new Ninja Turtles cartoon will definitely play a factor in whether or not the original cartoon makes it to DVD. If the new cartoon is a success, Artisan Entertainment will be looking to cash in on the Turtles' rejuvenated popularity and give all us fans exactly what we're looking for.

However . . . if the new Ninja Turtles cartoon doesn't prove to be a big hit . . . if the kids of today take one look at it and say, "Ninja Turtles are a thing of the past" . . . I think it will have a negative ripple effect on the original cartoon making it to DVD. Artisan Entertainment will realize that there's no interest in the new Turtles, which means there might not be any interest in the old Turtles, and the DVD set(s) will be scratched.

A lot is riding on this new cartoon.

I really hope they release the original series as a seasonal set of DVDs like they did with other shows, Though on the DVD set, I doubt we would get Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS 5.1 Surround since the cartoons were never made with such technology, Unless they were done using Dolby Prologic. :)

Anyways, I'd just like to say that I too would love to see the original series come out on DVD. Only what they should do is sell a single disk of the first season and then a box set of each following season. That way, we get a small taste at first.

If they release the episodes on DVD based on each season, something may happen before every season is released. Perhaps the DVD sets don't sell as well as expected -- so the makers decide the rest of the project isn't worth it and call it quits.

In a perfect world, we would get everything altogether. And in an even more perfect world, the whole thing would come cheap! :lol: But we don't live in a perfect world, obviously. Things can change at any time. The series may never even make it to DVD at all.

I think it will really depend how this new updated cartoon does with today's viewers. If the show tanks, I think the DVD project will disappear along with it . . .

Well I think that they should release the First season on DVD. It it the best that the TMNT cartoon could offer. Well Maybe they should release some others too like the Eye of Zarnoth thing, Return of the technodrome and The big trilogy. Too few would buy whole series. But if those BEst eps would be released there probably would be buyers...
