one word: oil

other countries despise the US on forign affairs, we hold many hostage with military might and support dictators to stop dictators who go against America we also exploit them to make clothes and everyday things, thats why they come to America cheap, due to cheap labor.
Bush has investments in Oil same with all the senators and conngressmen who voted for the war. Saddam is cruel and evil, he uses biological and chemical weapons on his people. Weapons we helped him make to attack Iran. But when he invaded Kuwait it compromised our oil intrests there. So Bush the first invaded now Bush the Second wants the oil in Iraq. its all for selfish gain.

Man, you guys are really hard on Bush....YOu seem to forget a LOT of American--No, WORLD History. All battles and wars have been started over stuff like this, whether it was for the use of slaves in the South, or the downfall of Aristocracy, or the claiming of new territories, it has ALWAYS been triggered by the needs of making more money. And Bush is not the only one....most politicians are invested in some sort of big business, like oil or whatnot. How do you think they get all the money to do their advertising? Its not all from the supporters....
What do you think would have happened if GORE was president? *shudder* I'd rather not worry myself over "ifs", but i would not be surprised if Gore would have already called for some sort of militial response on Iraq. It scares me to know tht if we do go to wr, many of our friends will be the ones to go, because most people ('specially turtle fans) are in the age range to get enlisted into war....and if we get the Draft started.....

Its scary, on the day of Sept. 11 (RIP), my very first thought had been, "What if Iraq was involved?" I worried that something big womuld come out of it, not good for anyone....all i can say is, stop the madness, call off the War Hysteria, and I really hate ESP sometimes.....

Nturtle
10-13-2002, 09:34 AM
thats part of the problem, in fact its always the problem, but it in no way justifies this war. I doubt there will be a draft, why would you think Bush is pushing for a war now? Election time is coming up look at all the propaganda being shot off the tv sets about how we have to go to war its no coincidence. Gore would probebly not attack iraq, personnally I backed nader *ducks rotten fruit being thrown at him by democrats*

Its not just about oil...its a lot to do with the Biological weapons and such like that....

But yes, as i had said before....The present day generation has never sen wartime before...our parents had Vietnam, their parents world war two, Their parents WWI, and their parents, the Spanish American war (i think), and on and on...We are the first Generation to have not gone to war for over a century! but now... :ohwell:

You're green too!!! awesome dude!!!
Is really not about biological weapons, the vast majority of that is propaganda. I just read a great article about the whole issue I'll e-mail it to you if you like. America gave billions to Saddam to help him make those weapons, when he killed his own people we didn't do a thing. But invading kuwait without our orders got him in trouble he like many other countries was another proped up dictator by the US. We have been doing covert operations all over the place to keep things our way. And the "free" press only blabbers on about little girls being kidnapped. Horrible as those cases are they have no relevence it what is actually happening.
Sorry if I come off too harsh, I have a tendency to do that

Oh, if Eisenhower still lived.... :( He really helped the country during WWII, even doing a half-hour talk every night n the radio...kinda soothing to hear his voice. Kinda like a parent telling a child that everything will be okay...I wish Bush could do something like that...

too bad he was a racist and a bit of a dumbbell, while he was doing those kind of things, Nixon and his staff were out running the world. i wouldn't like to have Bush do that actually i would be Patronizing. But anyways I don't think Eisenhower did that, he was a general at that time maybe you're reffering to FDR

Kingkapong

so far, U.S hasn't declared war on Iraq yet. hey, is it possible the sniping attacks in washington is related to this (war)? some people are speculating that. Bush is 1/2 to blame. the rest are to the people who voted him into seat. Bush is only good for one thing. sparking wars, just like his father. about past events (WW2) based on the treaty of versailles, germany was not allowed to build an army exceeding 100k. They did have an army exceeding 100k. they also invaded nearby countries. no one did anything, until finally they attacked france and boom! they are all in the war (referring to the allies).

Though the war vs Iraq will not be big, if Iraq launches one of it's biological warheads into north american territories, we're toasted like bread on a stove.

yeah that would make sence, FDR was an excellent president.
race is something republicans had to get on board because thats where the votes were going. I never said Bush was a racist, he may have some unconcious bias, but many people do without wanting to. Eisenhower was a racist.

Buzz. Try again.

If all Bush cared about was oil, he'd pressure the UN to lift the economic sanctions on Iraq, get Iraq to produce more oil and turn a blind eye to Saddam's human rights abuses in his country instead of pushing for war (sort of like we do with Saudi Arabia). As late as *October 2001*, a lot of oil industry-types were still lobbying for the end of sanctions.

A lot of financial analyst-types think that invading Iraq will *raise* oil prices. OPEC nations could start an embargo or start cutting down production, civil war in Iraq (think about Afghanistan) might break out in areas where the US might want to drill for oil, etc.

Like all universal "truths" about politics (Democratic: government programs will eliminate poverty, AIDS, and all of society's ills; Republican: what's good for business is good for the nation), the leftist credo (governments are corrupt and ruled entirely by corporate interests) is doomed to failure.

Libertarian??! yech!!! those guys are idiots!! they want to abolish all taxesBut...who wants taxes? And I don't think they're anarchists (otherwise they'd be CALLED anarchists). Like I said, I'm a swinger; I don't believe in every value of either party. For instance, the Libertarians want all National Park land to be taken out of the sanction of the government. I don't support that; by making it a National Park, it already IS public land. As for the Greens, I sometimes think they go a bit too far on the whole environmental issue. True, Ralph Nader may be a consumer rights activist, but once in awhile they'll push for too high a standard that in essence takes away freedom while saving lives.

I don't know...he supports the legalization of marijuana (not just for medicinal purposes, I hear), is another activist on homosexual rights, and we have him to thank for seat belts...I think he has a chance.

Why are so many people dissing Bush here? If we're not hard on these jerks we're gonna be in trouble. This tread is for world issues. Incase you haven't noticed they were planning two other attacks bigger and worse than the twin towers. All I have to say is: Evil started in the middle east and the destruction of the world will begin there by some tyranical jack ass with power! These people need a good kick in the ass!

In the case of Clinton, say wut you want about bush, but at least Bush ain't usein cigars to make the horizontal poka with people! :tsick:

Oy this may end up as a real long post.

Ok, first off did you know Iraq had medicare, free education and food in 1990?! right before the sanctions, now all thousands of Iraqi CHILDREN have died of lack of food, I find that repulsive and it gets worse. The UN wants to lift sanctions but the US has repeatedly said no, those are children are dying. The point of Iraq is
1.Its election time, the government has spat out so much propaganda that Americans belive its right.
2.Oil, right now we buy Iraqi oil and are stockpiling it in a trade for food, the trick is we don't give any food. but if we invade iraq put in a regime that will support the US like Saddam used to. Then we can just take all the oil we want. The war may flip over the economy, sure, and if oil prices rise then it can be sold for more leading to Bush, Cheney and all the othe r fat cats in his addministration getting rich and the bailing out otherwise screwing over Iraq and the american people. Saddam to the US is like a pet which lost its owners love by peeing on the carpet, now the owner will have it eliminated and get one that will do everything he says until it displeases the owner.

Ok now for the libertarian stuff. The basic policy of libertarians is no taxes and no government programs. No taxes would lead us into so much debt that there would need to be so much tax to get us out you would leavve the country. no programs includes enviromental, health and everything else, like the Republicans eliminating big government but to an outragous extreme. And putting buisnesses up to run th government instead. The environment is going down the tubes and fast, we are polluting the world and destroying a very beautiful land, there needs to be action on this now, or it will never happen. Nader is incredible he is deffinitly someone I look up to and would of voted for if I was not too small. I can't say leagelized Marijuana is a great idea though. Meddically yes, but even people who say it is not addictive and causes no harm don't know, they maybe deffending thier own addiction, I've seen people who are addicted it takes its toll on you and your brain severely.

And for Prowler, read Harpers magazine and some forign journals, the "free" press here is just propaganda these days.

Oy this may end up as a real long post.

Ok, first off did you know Iraq had medicare, free education and food in 1990?! right before the sanctions,

Uh, I did know that Iraq was a very prosperous country in 1990.

Did you know that Iraq is essentially a police state?

now all thousands of Iraqi CHILDREN have died of lack of food, I find that repulsive and it gets worse. The UN wants to lift sanctions but the US has repeatedly said no, those are children are dying.

Kurdish-controlled areas in Northern Iraq live under the same economic sanctions as the rest of the country, but people who live there are relatively well off.

1.Its election time, the government has spat out so much propaganda that Americans belive its right.

If Bush were advancing the war for political gain, then doing so *before* the elections makes no sense, as it could very well lead to masses of disgruntled voters putting a bunch of Democrats in Congress. It would have made far more sense for Bush to spend all his time campaigning for Republicans to win back the Senate and House of Representatives, *then* declare war on Iraq.

2.Oil, right now we buy Iraqi oil and are stockpiling it in a trade for food, the trick is we don't give any food.

Would you care to explain exactly how the US is cheating Iraq in the *UN*-administered oil-for-food program?

but if we invade iraq put in a regime that will support the US like Saddam used to. Then we can just take all the oil we want. The war may flip over the economy, sure, and if oil prices rise then it can be sold for more leading to Bush, Cheney and all the othe r fat cats in his addministration getting rich and the bailing out otherwise screwing over Iraq and the american people.

First you say that toppling Saddam and installing a puppet regime will lead to cheap oil and profits for the oil-stained Bush administration, but then you say that the war will lead to increased oil prices and profits for the oil-stained Bush administration. You can't have it both ways.
