It's been about 2 years since I kept up with this series, and I have to admit that I only watched this episode since the OT Turtles were appearing this episode.

There wasn't much of a substantial plot, and it paralleled closely to the Turtles Forever plot in trying to destroy dimensions and going to the Turtle prime dimension. With OT Donatello and the Prime Turtles, not recognizing each other, are we assuming that this is occurring before Turtles Forever then? ...Then again, OT Donatello knew about the Prime dimension before, so is it after Turtles Forever? One thing that was interesting was how this episode takes place before Tiger Claw emerges from the Kraathatrogon. ...Meh... but trying to make sense of this new timeline involving different Turtle universes is confusing, especially with OT Krang's backstory that conflicts with 2012's Kraang Sub-Prime's version. Then again with this show having a problem with plot amnesia, I don't expect that this show will spend the effort and detail in clarifying, to avoid these story writing conflicts and confusion.

There could have been a better developed plot for this episode in involving the OT Turtles, but a lot of the episode seemed to want to conjure up nostalgia with the OT references.


When it came to the voice acting and characterization for the OT Turtles and Krang, it was apparent that a there was a lot of care and effort here, which I applaud. The OT Turtles still had their humorous quirks (i.e. in their personalities and how they fought), but thankfully they were competent and were not behaving like cowards as they were depicted with Turtles Forever. It's ironic that this 22 minute episode was able to much more accurately display the OT Turtles' personalities and their individuality, rather than in the longer 80 minute version of Turtles Forever that just broad-painted them as goofball incompetent cowards, who cried and cowered from fights. In this episode, I didn't get the impression that the tone of the episode was harshly comparing one universe of characters to another or that one team was burdening the other (as in Turtles Forever in belaboring the point over and over again), but rather had a easier and congruous coexistence as the episode transitioned from different characters and dimensions, rather than exaggerating their differences to the point of ridicule.

There was still the charismatic charm and chemistry the four OT voice actors had in this episode. The only thing that seemed a little unfamiliar was Barry Gordon's voice at times, but it was just bits here and there, and wasn't enough to take me out of the show's narrative or atmosphere. (And it's understandable considering his age, and how the OT series ended 20 years ago.) One big highlight of the episode was Pat Fraley's voice acting for OT Krang with Glibert Gottfried (Kraang Sub-Prime); Fraley's talent really shined here as if no time had passed since the OT ended.

As for another OT crossover happening... **shrug** ...I'm not too thrilled about it for this Nick series because of the nostalgia oversaturation already, but then again, I'm not bothering to keep up with the show, so meh. What I am looking forward to, is seeing how the other OT characters (Shredder, Bebop and Rocksteady) will be implemented in the next crossover and see if they repeat this well-executed return of OT characterization and voice acting.

So I did a re-watch of the episode the other day, and I caught one of those common Fred Wolf mistakes. I wonder if it was intentional or not. '87 Donatello says that, "It feels great to be back home" but it's in Rob Paulsen's voice. :tsmile:

Probably also a reference to how rob paulsen does both raph and don. Another one i noticed was when krang fired his eye lazers at both groups of turtles near the beginning of the episode and caused them to fall off the bulding, you can see two 87 raphs.

lol yeah, almost definitely intentional. Those mistakes in the old series can be very annoying if you let it annoy you, but even when I first got into the series when I was 5 I never was confused to who was really talking... :tgrin:

I never got annoyed by the errors. Infact, i think they made it even more fun to watch the show and notice all the details, it wouldnt be as entertaining and iconic without them. Im currently about halfway through season 3 in my OT marathon and so far its been pure bliss and enjoyment.

Maybe this is set after the 1987 cartoon? So where on Earth do Krang end up this time, and where does he go?

^ Back to the Technodrome within the 2D universe? That's the best answer that I can come up with.

In my opinion, there are two times in the OT this could take place.

Early season 4 (excluding European vacation) because:

1. Michealangalo still uses his Nunchucks, which he didn't completely stop using until the second half of season 4.

2. The Nick show also running in early season 4

3. The technodrome being in Dimension X

4. The OT turtles having met Casey Jones in season 3, so theres no way this could take place before that, leaving seasons 4 one of the possibilities due to the technodrome being in Dimension X during that time.

5. Alot people remember the OT from this time, when its popularity was at its height, making it a more iconic time for TT to take place when people knew the OT best. And the tone is in early season 4 which is more lighthearted than the second time this could fit on the OT, making TT more similar to season 4 tone wise.

OR

In between seasons 7 and 8, after the episode'Shredder Triumphant' and before 'Get Shredder' because:

1. Krang in the end is seperated from the technodrome.

2. Krang asking the Kraang to go home makes more sense since Krang at this point had no way to access Dimension X.

3. The technodrome being in Dimension X

4. The turtles having met Casey Jones before, it may make even more sense for them to be walking together in the
Streets at this point since they know each other better. (April even has his number by Night of the Rogues)

5. The lack of trench coat disguises. I dont remember the OT using their disguises once in season 7, while they were still being used in early season 4. Makes more sense considering how they publicly ran out for pizza since they were less concerned about the public at this point.


I think its a give and take, but maybe the second upcoming crossover will maybe make it easier to pinpoint an exact time in the OT when TT took place.

Speaking of 87 Raph and 2012 Don, i wonder if the 2003 TMNT crossover came and 2012 Shredder will be all like "Curse that turtle! He sounds like me" as a refference to the polish dub

Good thinking. I like it between 7 and 8 personally. If not, I'd say after season 10. That would kind of explain the lack of Shredder, Bebop and Rocksteady.

But yeah, the season 5 crossover might help clear things up.

I think it would be cool if the next crossover had a tragic ending with the OT universe being polluted into red sky by the shredders.
