If it's any consolation I spit coffee all over my computer screen when I read this, so it made me laugh!

Coffee, by the way, sipped from a Lootcrate Exclusive Channel 6 mug, much like the one I like to imagine an attractive cartoon reporter sips from as well.

Coola and I have been beating that horse into glue for the past week and a half, including on our podcast (PLUG!) where I delightfully riffed on the very rant you're referring to.

Thus, the rock is actually Yours, sir! C'mon man try and keep up. What the f*ck else would the "neck tattoo" reference even be alluding to? Aye-yi-yi.

CyberCubed 09-22-2022 10:22 AM

Rise already had black April so hopefully that quota is done.

We still have fat April, lesbian April, transgender April for future incarnations.

neatoman 09-22-2022 12:10 PM

What about Asian April, Latina April, Middle-Eastern April, Native American April, Aborigine April, Indian April, Inuit April and Pacific April? Did you forget about them, Cubed?

That "Dawn of the TMNT" fan graphic novel/fake movie was going to have an April O'Neil modeled after Rosario Dawson. That wasn't the worst idea ever.

I don't know if I can think of three (3) chicks who look better naked than Rosario Dawson. Jesus, she's something else.

She is the only reason to sit through "Alexander" for that very reason.

Leo656 09-22-2022 02:22 PM

Is THAT the one where she's full-nude and you can see her, uh... "cleft"? Jesus, I've only seen the pictures and not the movie but holy sh*t... if every guy had a poster of that on their ceiling, nobody'd ever need Viagra. She was absolutely f*cking Goddess Level.

I mean I'm not in love with chicks who are fully "smooth" and I doubt it was historically accurate. But Good God, any chick with a body like that shouldn't even be allowed to wear clothes, it's a crime against nature.

As Eric July once said regarding race-bending: “Once you go black, you can’t go back.”

Sure, Baxter Stockman will remain black, as he should because he was black in the original Mirage comics. Why the Fed Wolf version was whitewashed, I don’t know. But April being white again? Doubt it.

Like April, the white red-haired Ariel is done for. If you prefer her over the new live-action black Ariel, then you’re just a racist who’s trying to live in the past.

And I seriously doubt Nick Fury will go back to being white again, as he originally started out as.

Yeah White Nick Fury is dead and buried. But white April? There might still be hope.

Andrew NDB 09-22-2022 03:30 PM

Yeah. Black April only exists in a thing that nobody's watched. So they're not committed yet.

They literally said it was because they couldn't have a black character both be a villain and also a bullied subordinate of another villain, as this would be perpetuating racist stereotypes.

I mean I kinda get it, based on the onscreen dynamic between the characters of Baxter and Shredder in the FW cartoon. In picturing it in my head, yeah, that'd be some "slave and plantation owner" sh*t if everything else were the same but Baxter was black. But they just as well could have kept Baxter black and not made him such a groveling toadie for Shredder and then the problem mostly resolves itself. AND one can argue that 4Kids Baxter got it even worse, but then he was also portrayed as a stronger and more intelligent character than FW Baxter was.

Did anyone involved with the 80s show ever say that? I know that's what people assume but as far as I'm aware no one has ever confirmed why the character was changed to Caucasian.

I remember one of the Mirage crew posting early concept art for the cartoon Baxter and saying that they envisioned him as a Doc Brown-like character. I remember them also saying they didn't know why the character's race was changed.

Leo656 09-22-2022 04:11 PM

I know I've read it stated as "definitive" by someone who would know but when and where I couldn't tell ya.

But c'mon you know that's what it was, gimme a break. And given how the FW characters were written I can't say as I blame them. But I also maintain they just could have written it better, but HAH, "FW TMNT", expecting quality writing was asking for way too much.

Can't have the batsh!t crazy villain be a black scientist... that'd be a stereotype or racism or both... or something.
