I really enjoyed this episode, though something just occured to me a while ago. Is it just me or does anybody wonder why Splinter has yet to personally involve himself in the situation? I mean honestly, he's the one Shredder's after, so why is dear old sensei letting his pupils deal with the problem instead of manning up and finishing what he started?
|
Because the show isn't titled "Splinter". :trazz:

I was actually thinking that myself, Jeff. I mean, this bigger, more formidable Splinter has fought in what...2 episodes? And one of them was AGAINST his sons. I'm surprised that when Shredder shellacked (pun intended) the boys in The Gauntlet he didn't say, "This is MY fight..." and take it on himself.
Then again, maybe he doesn't take on Shredder is because he doesn't want to leave the boys without a father....but then his kids could possibly be killed... I dunna, man... |
He's not interfering yet because the writers don't want him to. They want to save his fight with Shredder for later and make it really epic. I think he will take on Shredder eventually though.
|
They're obviously saving a Splinter Vs. Shredder fight for the end of the season.
|
It has been weird to not see Splinter not take on a more proactive role in fighting the foot, or getting more background on there age old rivalry. I'm guessing there saving quite a bit for season 2 or later on down the road, but I would personally like to see more of Splinter kicking butt.
|
maybe Splinter is afraid to go topside?
|
I wonder if Splinter will recognize Karai as Miwa when he sees her, which would be odd since he hasn't seen her since she was a baby.

Well... yeah, Splinter not going up there to take a fight and defend his sons IS the big elephant in the room regarding this show.
There is; "they have to gather exsperience on their own, so I have to let them do stuff on their own." And then there is; "I stated it myself, there is a war going on, there's an alien race whom is threatening the entire planet, and my old deadly nemesis is trying to get to me, through my sons." Erhh.... yeah.. I do think the show is doing the right thing by simply dodging this question and not adress it at all. Have it firmly established in other episodes that Splinter do indeed love his sons, and then not question it. A big problem is that this Splinter, is that he is actually to strong. The 4K3 Splinter, was stronger and more skilled than the turtles yes, but not that much more skilled, and he was old so he was in danger when he entered battle, he could get beat up. So we could still have him there, and the Turtles would still be centre piece. This Splinter is so very strong in comparison to the turtles, that if he fought along-side them, the turtles wouldn't get to do a god damn thing. And yeah, the show is called. "Teenage mutant ninja Turtles" not. "Sensei Mutant ninja Rat." .. so well.. that the turtles has centre stage is a sign of competence from the writers part.. It is a starting to become a bit of a bug about this show though, which is a god damn shame as I still love the show so much, AND splinter, I love this Splinter, I genuinly want to spend a lot more time with him.. |

They do look a lot more alike in those cards.
|
What exactly does splinter do all day? Especially when there out and about running topside? We know from time to time he trains April, theres a lot to this Splinter I think were missing out on.

The photo looks kind of cold and impersonal, on this she is absolutely beautiful, and just looks like a person worth fighting for. Also like the little detail that she actually has a hand on her shoulder in that photo, I am just going on a limb here and say, that is probably Hamato Yoshi's hand, holding her shoulder. That's nice :) |

Probably does housework ( or should I say..sewer work) around the lair, meditates, cooking, stuff like that. Also: those cards are AWSOME! |
I actually think that Splinter mostly trains.
I mean, he knows that Shredder is out there, and even though Splinter is un-defeated, it has been fifteen years, where he has been stuck in the sewers raising four boys whom is the same age. He probably knows that now isn't the time to slack off, as in, at all. So he probably trains when-ever he can. He did that a little bit in the Rat king episode, and that is the only time we actually saw Splinter being alone in the lair. What did he do? he trained. |

He probably does chores and makes sure that his sons' rooms are clean, too. I'm sure he trains, meditates, and as I said before, watches TV when his sons aren't around.

I really enjoyed this episode as well. I can't believe that no one mentioned Mikey's line earlier in the Shellraiser about the signal that they were getting was either the Kraang ship or Santa. "No. It's the Kraang ship." :tlol: I thought that was very funny.
The whole truce idea was a good one and it was interesting to see the turtles go back on it rather than the villain character. I also loved the Donnie/Raph/April reaction to Donnie mentioning that Karai was pretty and his awkwardness that followed. I too think that the Russian guy that is an old friend of The Shredder's seems like a very interesting character. Mikey mentioning "Shredhead" was great. I also loved the second fight with Shredder. I liked when Shredder said something to the effect have "You'll find out why they call me the Shredder." a lot too. Shredder finally seeing The Kraang was nice to see as well. The end was great too with Shredder actually capturing a Kraang. I do wonder if this will become Kraang Prime or just what Shredder will end up doing with it. |
so... no new ep today?

I've noticed that some posts have questioned/debated why Leonardo would betray the daughter of an arch villain, but I think what some people are forgetting is that Leonardo DIDN'T know Karai was Shredder's daughter. That's why Leonardo was shocked in discovering that information. As TMNT fans, we already know she is Shredder's daughter, but you have to look at it from a storytelling and first-time viewer perspective. In other words, a kid seeing this or anyone new to TMNT would be genuinely shocked by the revelation.
Therefore from that perspective, it makes sense why Leonardo went along in following Donatello and Raphael in destroying the Shredder. Leonardo probably thought Karai was some wayward orphan teenager who was being oppressed and trapped by Shredder's tyranny and had "no way out", which explains why Leo was asking, "Why are you protecting him?!?! You said he's driving you crazy!" I'm sure if Leo had this knowledge beforehand, the Turtles wouldn't have attacked Shredder in the first place especially Leo since he could every so slowly persuade Karai to not be so vigilant against feuding with them. So I don't think Leo made a "poor leadership decision" with the information he had, I think he was trying to rescue Karai from Shredder. As for having a Kraang captured by Shredder? Hmmm, it seems like it could have it's own unique spin on the whole OT version of the Shredder and Krang alliance. I know that a lot of TMNT fans always wondered how these two exactly forged an alliance, so maybe this Nick version could give a totally reinterpreted backstory of this. (Okay, maybe not a solid alliance like in the OT, but at least give some type of story to it since it made us TMNT fans wonder.) Is it me, or does it seem everytime the Turtles encounter Shredder (just like in the "The Gauntlet") there seems to be an added level of darkness or maturity on the Turtles' characters? Obviously, this Shredder is an ominous and threatening villain, but it seems with every experience there's a progressive, step-by-step, slight "lost innocence"/"point of no return" tone. The ending with Leo being so deeply contemplative was probably the most torn I've seen from the character thus far. I guess from this perspective, it's sort of making sense why the Nick writers made the Turtles so immature or why I called them "Tweenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" in the beginning. It gives a lot more room for the show to display their maturity and growth throughout the series. |
Speaking of Kraang, I wonder is the Kraang that was captured the one who said Kraang rules?
|
I am happy they actually made them act like both teenagers and brothers. I also like April being a teenager, only slightly older then the Turtles, and important to the story. I like that Splinter is as much of a father as he is a sensei to the turtles.
I still would like to see a TMNT series that brings back Bebop and Rocksteady. Well regardless of the reasoning for the Turtle's betrayal of Karai they will still be made to regret it...well at least April will. |

really great episode! i loved it

The Turtles did make a mistake... at the moment The Kraang are the bigger threat bar none. While Shredder is a more personal enemy the Kraang are a huge danger to the world at large. By putting their vendetta first they might have possibly lost the chance to get Karai on their side for good. And now Shredder will possibly have access to Kraang tech so yes this was z huge mistake by the Turtles
