T-shirt question

I bought this awesome tmnt shirt the other night. It actually looked like it came out of the comic and not any of the tv shows, which is why I got it. My question is this: it says "represent" across it, what does that mean? Represent what?anybody know?

It's a pop-culture phrase - "Represent" is used a little like the word is normally used in conversation. Example:
Two guys in Los Angeles meet at a convention. One asks the other where he's from.
"I'm from Chicago."
"Oh yeah? I'm also from Chicago."
"Woo, Chicago! Represent."

In terms of that t-shirt, the Turtles are representing the awesomeness that is TMNT. It's hard to explain, I guess. :embarass:

Oh god another Hot Topic shirt....a moron at my school bought that shirt and wears it all the time because he thinks it makes him look cool. I laugh at him all the time because he doesnt even like Ninja Turtles. Go di hate Hot Topic its the ultimate poser store

KROW 08-03-2004 04:44 PM

"Represent" means "Show your loyalty".

Kameko 08-03-2004 05:01 PM

I've never liked that shirt. It's overly 'aged', and it makes the Turtles look downright creepy. :dead:

Mobius One 08-04-2004 02:00 PM

My girlfriend got that shirt for me. I love it...its classic TMNT!

And yeah I hate how just because people see something at Hot Topic for instance, they have to buy it even if they don't like it. There was this girl at my school that was wearing a TMNT shirt. It was from the old cartoon by the way. And I went up to her and asked her if she saw the new show and she said she hated it, and then I said if she ever read the comics, and she had no idea that there even were comics. I hate it when people wear that stuff when they have no idea or don't even really like it. They just wear it because they think it is "vintage".

Leonardo_the_sword_master 08-04-2004 02:05 PM

mmmmmm, i one time saw someone wearing a old faded turtle shirt of the old TV show, it might of had reprasent on it.

Kazari 08-04-2004 02:29 PM

Yeah I have that Represent shirt from Hot Topic!! LOL

batraph 08-04-2004 04:23 PM

This isn't the hot topic shirt. I got this from kohl's, i don't know if it's a national chain store. It wasn't from the cartoon either, it was out of a comic. it looks like some of lawson's old work
anyway thanks for help everybody, i didn't want to go and wear it until i knew what it meant

Kazari 08-04-2004 05:44 PM

Yeah but Hot Topic sells them too. That's where I got mine! It looks old school too!

Karai 08-04-2004 06:00 PM

I didn't know Kohl's sold that stuff too. I haven't been there for ten years, besides. ^^;
I got my new Ninja Turtle threads at 80stees.com. Once I saw the one with "Splinter's Dojo" on the front, I had to have it. I love my Turtles tees.

Kazari 08-04-2004 06:22 PM

LOL I didn't buy that one! I have tons of TMNT Shirts...but mostly now all new toon and whatever i bought at Hot Topic.

KROW 08-04-2004 06:30 PM

I don't wear TMNT shirts. They clash with my flannel.

Kazari 08-04-2004 06:32 PM

:P

XERO 08-04-2004 07:49 PM

They should make a 'Benvenuto' T-shirt. 8)

KROW 08-04-2004 07:53 PM

No. YOU should make one. I'm sure we'd all wear it. Even me.

XERO 08-04-2004 07:57 PM

I wish! :P

Ashangelo 08-04-2004 07:57 PM

I can't find any TMNT shirts at my Hot Topic it sucks :( The one TMNT shirt I do have I got on 80tees. I love that shirt it rocks my socks :P

Actually, the Kohl's one is a bit different, I believe. I've seen both, and the Kohl's one isn't as aged, and has a different picture, if I recall correctly.

This is the "Represent" t-shirt that I've seen at Hot Topic and is listed on 80stees.com.

Is this one different than the one you found at Kohl's?

Kazari 08-04-2004 08:11 PM

Yeah that's the one I found at Hot Topic.

Zelda 08-05-2004 02:45 PM

Just cause it's vintage don't mean it's cool...and just cause it's hot topic don't mean it sucks.... Two sides of the same coin.

I need a new series shirt >___> I've got an old series one (and yes it was from hot topic XD) very cartoony...similar to the old series dvd cover. And no prefading, I can fade my own shirts ^_^

I run into old show elitists a lot... elitists who don't even know what they're talking about...they remember some of the old show, but are oblivious to the comics existing and they'd get the clothes before they'd get the DVDs. I haven't even read the comics but I still know they exist o_O; shouldn't be THAT much of a surprise. But it's also sad that people don't like the new show just because it's different from the original ):

Kameko 08-05-2004 04:52 PM

KROW, I am so glad someone agrees. I was beginning to wonder about you guys...

Shreddette 08-05-2004 07:08 PM

HAW!
I looked that shirt up last night as well. Damn, it is nuckin' fugly.

Sadly, I also tried to look up Shredder shirts to.no.avail.

I'm gonna have to bloody well make one on my own. No problem. I can make a better one than they would likely produce, anyways.

Kazari 08-05-2004 08:25 PM

LOL I have that shirt and I LIKE it :P

Emmanuel Cruz 08-07-2004 09:33 PM

I don't like that "Represent" shirt. Why buy a shirt that looks like it's beat up? :-?

I bought two TMNT shirts recently, one from the old and new show. I bought a green shirt that has the old TMNT logo on it, and a gray shirt that has all four turtles on it, new show style. I don't like Hot Topic, but I go there solely for the Family Guy, Nintendo and TMNT Shirts because I ACTUALLY enjoy, watch, play and know about those things!!! I see kids in my school with a shirt from Hot Topic like you people have, and they just put it for the heck of it. I loved the old show growing up, I love the new show, and I'm starting to read the Mirage Comics. (Sadly, I didn't know about them until one or two years ago.) The same goes for FG and Nintendo. I enjoy and know about them!

You might say I'm "representing" myself. :P

80stees.com had a pretty nice-looking Shredder shirt listed about a year ago. Pity I didn't buy it.

jeff the cheff 08-08-2004 10:36 PM

I have a lot of tmnt T's...including the represent one.(my mom bought it for me) I like it, and I wear it occasionaly. They only make new tmnt shirts for kids, well..because it's a kids show. I can fit into a kids large no problem. Just remember that a kids large =(almost) an adult small. And if you wear medium, you can probobly fit into a small shirt. Just try it.

That DOES suck!

Hey, spill the details what did it look like...? Like what pose was he in, how big was the pic, was it true to the old toon design?

Sorry, I just would like to keep my eye out for something like that if it is still in circulation at all.

Kazari 08-09-2004 06:40 AM

I wish they made the new show shirts for adults too and with the same cool styles. I mean some of the cooler styles are made for only little little kids so it sucks!

It looked like he was drawn in comic form (black and white), with his arms criss-crossed against his chest, flashing his blades. The word "Shredder" was underneath him, and I believe the letters were in red. I think that's what it looked like anyway.
