Lonely Hearts Club

Rather than bog down Spitfire's romantic thread about how sweet his girlfriend is, I decided to start a special thread just for us singles to whine about our crushing loneliness. :)

Let the whining begin!

BTW my situation can still be summed up in this thread from a couple years ago.

Sewer Bull 06-29-2005 02:48 PM

Well, being a single wouldn't be so shameful if it wasn't for happy paired society. Friends and family encourage you to pick up someone, settle down and just be content till the end of your life - like them.

I'm 22 and lately my further family told me it's high time to find myself a fiancee :o Yes, a fiancee, because the best age for marriage is below 25, according to them. How awful. I felt like Bridget Jones.

Tetsu Deinonychus 06-29-2005 03:06 PM

'tell 'em to shove it. Your family shouldn't tell you when to get married. It should be if you meet the right person, and you both decide to tie the knot.

Actually, these days now, around 30 is the ideal age to get married. ...er, that's if ya even want to get married.

Anarky 06-29-2005 04:15 PM

Sheesh, actually I don't mind being single. Well, especially not after tonight, since I noticed that there's quite some girls interested in me. I could pick, but hell I won't. I mean, it would be mean to "just pick a girlfriend" since this is not a casting show. But just the feeling that my regular, impolite, "f***-you"-attiduded, anarchist self bears something interesting for girls.

I do like that one girl though... :D

ThirdMarioBro 06-29-2005 04:19 PM

I'm doomed. I'm a geek who lives on his computer and is a gamer, also known as the un-marryable type.

There are so few gaming girls in the world and 99% of them are taken. All I ever wanted was someone to share my life with. Somone to sit down with at the end of the day and play a game of Tetris with, or to pound the ole Donkey Konga bongos with. Someone just to share life with. Witout the internet, I'd probobly just die of loneliness.

Sometimes I get pretty damn lonely.

Uhm, this might sound a bit blunt, or insensitive, but have you ever tried going out? I know it sounds like "blending in with the people you hate" but believe me, it's different.

ThirdMarioBro 06-29-2005 04:56 PM

No, it's not insensitive. I've been out, and for the most part, girls just snub at me around here. You've got to realize that Tulsa, Oklahoma is in the middle of the "bible belt" and around here, everyone is very country oriented and stuffy. In fact, my beliefs and opinions and intrests in life are about the opposite of everyone around here. That's what also contributes to making it so hard.

Anarky 06-29-2005 05:11 PM

The bible belt? Aw, crap... I heard stories. Lots of them. Is it really that bad?

And there really isn't one club where "non-conformist" people meet? Because I live in a city with about 16,000 people, we have liek a dozen clubs, 9 of them are Hip Hop and R'n'B-holes, and there's one bar that has been sort of my home away from home. I met so many people there, including 90% of all my previous girlfriends. The others were just... odd encounters.

Raph's Girl 06-29-2005 05:21 PM

Im single and haven't had a BF since 1998 and I don't care if I ever get married. My dad is satisfied with my step-sister's 2 boys so he doesn't bother me with questions as to if I'll ever get married or have kids. Due to all the issues my body has I can't have kids anyways and that's fine with me...can't stand kids. :P

Im a single computer geek and am somewhat satisfied as to where I am in life. Now if only I could get a job I'd like. :ohwell:

I DO go out tho...mostly to the bar up the street.

Hannah 06-29-2005 05:38 PM

...I don't like it when people want to have a date just so to HAVE one. Like, my one friend broke up with her b/f becuase he was beat up by a girl. And the next day she was all over this other guy and a week later came to me like she was high or something because he got her first kiss. I was like, "Jesus, chill. You should have saved that for someone you actually cared for. o_O" I'm pretty sure she won't be virgin for long. -.- My point is, don't get depressed over being single unless you really love someone and just cant have them. Be single and proud! I know I was. ...Then I met Shadow. I wasn't looking for a boyfriend; we were just friends for a while anyway.

That happens to be my situation. One, that I find myself constantly in.

And, I don't believe in just wanting a "trophy sweetheart" either, but a person does get lonely.

And, yes Anarky, the Bible-belt IS (irronically enough) hell!

Aww... *hugs TMB* We wub you. :)

*ears perk up* Did I hear Tetris??? I... love that game. If I start playing I am addicted and cannot stop. :D

Bingo, babe. My situation is a tad differnet. I'm a technical single. Without going into too much detail, my guy friend and I have been 'more than' for over a year now, but, due to... 'things' we're not technically going out. But he doesn't go out with anyone else, and neither do I. *coughs* But there you have it. We're in limbo, and limbo sucks.

By the way... thankies for the nice comments in the other thread. At least they made me smile tonight. :)

GK Punk 06-29-2005 06:41 PM

One day, Dawn, I demand a Game of Tetris against you.
(I believe I made this challenge once before also!)

I see ;)
But, at least you sort of have someone. At least, you're not crushing on an old friend that now lives 4 states away.

At least, you're only a few states away and not at opposite ends of the US.

You'll find her, TMB. Believe me, there's much more girls out there who like to play video games than you think.
You're a nice and interesting guy. One of them will eventualy get drawn to your charm. ;)

This is almost worse than anything... It's right THERE but it's not. It can be very... trying... at times.

*hugs* Oh, Jo... I know how crappy it's been for you...
I swear, your man needs to be like, jolted off his feet to wake him up and get the relationship moving again. It's been set on "stand by" for too long. ;)

愛 06-29-2005 08:14 PM

Being single isn't a bad deal. You can do whatever you want without worrying about some kind of set schedule. It gets lonely at times, but hey. Screw it. There are games to be played.

Peanut 06-29-2005 08:17 PM

You're just saying that because you know you're going to die alone.

愛 06-29-2005 08:18 PM

Yeah, I know. Gotta cover it up somehow, though.

Twenty-two years of single bliss,
Without so much as a single kiss. :D

Though I do think it would be nice to find someone I didn’t get the urge to kill every time they spoke. I’m sure there’s someone, somewhere. I mean, you people are proof that there are human beings who aren’t complete morons…

((And I used to be the Tetris Queen! But I am so out of practice… :dead: ))

Do I just get a slight feeling of misanthropy here? :D People aren't that bad... occasionally.

But you also have major hangovers. Ask me... and I've got to go to a funeral now. Argh, and I'd love to sleep until I can at least walk straight.

ThirdMarioBro 06-30-2005 12:11 AM

Just go to E3, where the women are paid to fondle you and Konami hands out passes to strip club.

I kid, I kid

......but not about the Konami part.

Dane E5R 06-30-2005 01:37 AM

Not to rain on anyone's parade, here... But I've grown a bit tired of that old "you'll find someone" cliche. I mean, I'm sure I'll eventually get married and settle down, but I just hate how people make it seem as though it's some law of nature that everyone will find that special someone. That's fairytale talk, and if there's one thing I've learned, it's that life ain't nothin' like a fairytale.

Tetsu Deinonychus 06-30-2005 01:39 AM

But, it's such a sweet lie.

Amen to that. And how come only marriage can guarantee happiness and well-being...
The more dangerous cliche from "you'll find someone" is "find yourself someone". Like it was so easy. Just go to bar and pick up anyone.
And about my further family - their words of wisdom have no significance for me because I meet them once in 3-4 months and the fact is my elder cousins have already married their spouses, therefore I'm the next guy in the line so they have someone to gossip about during family reunions. Yeah. I bet my current "girlfriend-in-spe" would officially freak out if I popped a question right now

XERO 06-30-2005 06:32 AM

Question:

Why do we always have to find 'someone?'

Why can't 'someone' find us for a change?

That's how it's always been for me. The girl always finds me. I guess I've just been lucky?

Barkworm 06-30-2005 10:11 AM

No dude, you're drop-dead sexy unlike us. ;)
I've just met one of my former classmates from Junior High. He always liked me although I always thought he was kind of a dumbass. Well, he WAS dumb but a nice guy... somehow. Anyway, he had his brandnew family with him: one hell of a nice wife and a supercute baby-son. I started wondering what I've actually done wth my life so far...

Yeah, same with me. When I see people talking about having all this relationship trouble...I can never relate to them. We must be the lucky ones.

Tetsu Deinonychus 06-30-2005 07:35 PM

I would like to say for the record that I do not believe that EVERYONE needs to be in a couple to be happy, but I don't believe that EVERYONE can be happy alone either. It depends on the individual. (And I agree that realitives pressuring someone to get married is total B.S.).

The point is, if you're "Happy to be single" then, good for you, now PLEASE stop ruining our perfectly good whine-fest! Not, every single sees the advantages and we shouldn't have to justify our loneliness to you guys. I appreciate that you're trying to help (especially you Hannah, who makes some good points), but we can't just will ourselves to be like you.

I swear you'd knock the ice-cream from our hands if we were doing this in real life.
