New Ep Discussion: "The People's Choice"

[Yes Yes, I KNOW.... already been shown on the DVD. This is for those who haven't seen it, or are looking forward to seeing the ep again tomorrow. Ack, I shoulda put this up sooner... *shakes fist at official site* Put them up sooner, dangit!]

Greetings all! I hope (for most of you) that your new school year is going well. :)

Its a time to get settled into classes, start your curiculum, and get into the swing of social goings-on. It can be a risky time for some, trying to take their place in the heirarchy of life at school, whether its middle school, high school, or for many of us, college and work.

Life is full of choices. They can lead you down many paths, some good, some not so good. It depends on you and your actions as a person.

Now, before you start thinking this is some rip-off of the old After-school specials, don't worry, I'm keeping to subject. :P

Many of you may know of the issue that this episode stems from. Quite an issue... how it is put into context of the current series may prove to be quite interesting. Don't think of it as 'just a filler'... we have had some surprises in the past.

The troupe is still recovering from their endeavours with the shredder, relaxing in the quiet, non-eventful community of Northampton. An excellent time to focus on family, self and the world around them. Healing physically, mentally and spiritually, our favorite mutant family is slowly pulling itself back together. What better bonding time than spending a few nights out camping in the woods. Nothing beats a warm fire, s'mores and story-telling with people you love (or love to annoy).

Nothing could go wrong... right?

As with any 'superhero' world, nothing can ever go perfectly. The boys are going to find themselves in one of the biggest political slugfests they've ever seen!

Can you say "Intergalactic Cat Cight"?

Knowing Raph and Mike, there's BOUND to be some comment about female wrestling. It just Wouldnt be them without it!

What is going to happen to the boys in this whole battle for control?
Are they going to just stand aside and try to keep a low profile, or is some unknown factor invariably going to pull them into the chaos?

STAY TUNED!

Machias Banshee 09-17-2005 09:04 AM

That was.... interesting, to say the least. I just can't think of any good quotes for the poll yet.... any ideas?

Anarchistguy 09-17-2005 09:05 AM

How close was it to the comic version?

rayfillet101 09-17-2005 09:07 AM

I didnt care for it too much, it was way too out there. next week we get to see air ninjas...playmates was two years too early on that idea!

Gary 09-17-2005 09:07 AM

I hope things start picking up soon; I want some continuation on the story. I don't mind these episodes, but I don't like so many at the beginning of the season. I guess it could be worse... could be like 'The Golden Puck.'

"The flowers were a very good idea."

userpjx 09-17-2005 09:10 AM

What an outstanding episode. It had everything, action puns and some good character development. I went into the episode thinking it would be filler but came out realising it was so much more.

Katie 09-17-2005 09:10 AM

Hmmm....maybe there was more than the election of a new leader from whatever planet that was. Donnie sure stepped up. Good thing too. Someone needs to act responsibly.

And Poor Casey. That was the most awkward profession of love since...well my husband did it...way back when.

I gotta say I loved Don in this episode. He was the most level headed. He filled Leo's void nicely. And he got a little crush on the fighter girl. Guess he needs another girl to crush on since April's kinda spoken for.

AWWWWWWWWW

You mean...Donnie's role WASN'T stolen from another TMNT this time? SWEEET!!! :D

Katie 09-17-2005 09:14 AM

Don was the main man today

Anarchistguy 09-17-2005 09:16 AM

I got a question for you, Katie.

Was Leo still moody in this ep? If so. Did he ever say :Having fun is no excuse for being careless" in the ep?

rayfillet101 09-17-2005 09:18 AM

Leo was still moody, he almost destroyed the robot that the girl was in. He also refused to go exploring with the others. I think this is a few weeks after cousin sid, most of the bandages are off. Leo and Raph look practically healed!

Anarchistguy 09-17-2005 09:24 AM

:o

Well, Thanks for the info, rayfillet101

Katie 09-17-2005 09:26 AM

poor Leo. he made Raph look like the even tempered brother today. He's still brooding. And the fact that his moves in battle were driven by protecting his brothers...that leads me to believe that he is blaming himself for all the injuries and trouble they ran into in Exodus.

Leo, you've got to calm down, bro.

Oh yeah, did anyone else see the little TMNT short Earlier in the morning? I was laughing my head off. Poor Mikey. No more Hide and seek for awhile I suspect.

Torrant2 09-17-2005 09:27 AM

11:30?

What the heck I thought it was supposed to be on at 11:30? It's still on at 10:30 so I missed it. Was Splinter in it?

Katie 09-17-2005 09:28 AM

yes.....still a crispy critter too....and handing out love advice to Casey....which was humerous in itself....

And...I think in some markets it may be on at 11:30....my Fox channel here in Nashville runsit at 9:30 local time

Jester 09-17-2005 09:49 AM

Can you not say "I love you." in a kids toon...can you only say "I care for you."?

A good episode, good action and character moments, but the dialogue wasa bit weak....

Tinuvielsdreams 09-17-2005 09:52 AM

Remember the part at the very beginning when they all raced to the roof of that old house? Well Leo didn't want to go but then poof he was there when the guys reached the top. Mikey's reaction was kinda like how did you do that? I wasn't sure if it is meant to mean something or if they just needed to get all the guys in one place for the robot ship to crash in. Did anyone else take a second thought on Leo's sudden appearance?

I also missed the short during Sonic I flipped the channel on right at the end. I heard something about hide and seek? Darn my channel Surfing!

I liked the episode okay. I am a little anxious to get farther along in the season. Donny always seems to work well with the ladies, good for him... :D

I think it was both. They had to get the guys together. But for me it was like once he saw where they were headed, he went to make sure eveything was kosher up there.

Of course, It could also have just been a coincidence. Leo wants to keep an eye on things and the top of the mill was a good vantage point.

Heh, and for anyone that missed the short, I bet I could give a synopsis...if anyone's interested...

Yeah I wondered that. Maybe only you can only say I love you On PBS kids shows like Barney...

Masked Ninja 09-17-2005 10:22 AM

:tlol: Splinter giving out relationship advice was priceless.

I don't think the "I care for you" was bad... think about Casey. Showing tender feelings was not something he did much (if at all) before he met April. He's not gonna just jump into it - "love" is a pretty strong word. I thought that this little mushy scene was well-done because it wasn't too over-the-top or too cheesy. Just true to the characters.

This was a new thing... Leo attacking after all was said and done! Raph had to help restrain him! Maybe he needs to go shred a few trees to let it out, poor guy. He only said one thing the whole episode, which was his note that the black snakey thingy was hurt by water. And that chunk outta his shell that I've heard about... it seems to have made its first appearance today. At least, I think that's what it was. So can we assume that he got it from the fight with Shredder somewhere? When I finally get the DVD *coughstupidWalmartcough* I might have to study that entire action sequence for a possible place he coulda got that.

What the flip? MORE weird critters from elsewhere? These Turtles just keep attracting the visitors from other worlds, don't they? :ohwell:

Today I only noticed a few awkward bits in the animation. It was very nicely done, kudos to the peoples.

Think we're gonna see a big emotional break down from poor Leo at the end of the season?

Mr. Stay Puft 09-17-2005 10:31 AM

Judging from the preview of next weeks episode, we're going to be seeing Raptar. Wonder if the Alteans will be mentioned.

That could be interesting. I think a good ep with Splinter and Leo working all this emotional baggage out would be very good.

I wouldn't mind seeing one...it be interesting to see how they go about it, plus I'd like to see a bit more of the old Leo. He doesn't have to go completely back because it's not terribly realistic... but talking and joking with his brothers might be nice. :tneutral:

Someone's gotta do something. I'm afraid he's going to hurt someone :(

Machias Banshee 09-17-2005 10:37 AM

Splinter's not gonna let him do anything (least, he better not). Either Leo's brothers are going to do something, or Splinter's going to corner him and make him face his troubles once and for all. Especially if it gets in the way of Leo's responsibilities..

Katie 09-17-2005 10:51 AM

*sigh* I hope. Kinda like watching the evolution of Raphael's attitide or something....only its Leo.

I gotta quote mikey now.

"Another Raph? We don't need any more of him....but me on the other hand..."

tOkKa 09-17-2005 10:55 AM

rayfillet101 09-17-2005 11:11 AM

The Ninja turtles short looked like the same animation as Crash Dummies, but with the same voice actors. liek the eyes were just circles. it was strange.

LUCKFF 09-17-2005 11:45 AM

GOOD EPISODE. UNLIKE "GOLDEN PUCK" ITS ONE OF THOSE EPISODES THAT I WILL APRECIATE MORE AS I WATCH IT AGAIN AND AGAIN. ALTHOUGH GOLDEN PUCK DID HAVE ITS MOMENTS (CASEY HIDING, MIKEYS ROOM SERVICE ETC.). THE CASEY AND APRIL "I CARE FOR YOU" SCENE WAS VERY GOOD AND DIDNT HAVE TO THINK TWICE WHETHER IT WAS IN THE RIGHT PLACE OR TIME. IT FELT RIGHT AND IT FIT RIGHT IN, I LOVE CHARACTER GROWTH. THIS STEP BETWEEN CASEY AND APRIL BRINGS US CLOSER TO THE POSSIBLITY OF SHADOW. I COULD IMAGINE APRIL PREGNANT FOR LIKE HALF A SEASON.(http://www.thetechnodrome.com/forums...ad.php?t=13764)
ALTHOUGH I PURCHASED THE SHREDDER COUNTDOWN DVD AND SAW ALL THE SEASON FOUR EPISODES (COUSIN SID, DRAGON BREW AND BAD DAY) I COULD NEVER CONCLUDE FROM THOSE EPISODES WHERE EXACTLY LEO LOST HIS CHUNK OF SHELL. NOW SEEING "PEOPLES CHOICE" I THINK WE CAN CONCLUDE THAT IT WAS THROUGH KARIA'S SWORD IN "EXODUS". UNLESS SOMETHING OCCURED BETWEEN "COUSIN SID" AND "PEOPLES CHOICE", WHICH WOULD REQUIRE AN ENTIRE FLASHBACK EPISODE TO EXPLAIN (DOUBT IT). SPLINTER WAS FUNNY THROUGH OUT THE EPISODE. THE PORCH SCENE WAS FUNNY "BED TIME MEDITATION", LOL. OK WAS IT JUST ME OR WERE MIKEYS BANDAGES ON HIS LEGS A REFERENCE TO THE NEXT MUTATION SERIES? I THINK SO. LEONARDOS RAGE ON THE ROBOT WAS ****ING CRAZY.

Buslady 09-17-2005 12:09 PM

I like it...i love it...i want some more of it...

OOOOOOOOO LEO...he's got serious anger issues. He needs to talk, cry, hit something, anything.....something's gotta be done about his anger. He's losing his mind and Raph's SANE!

Why does Don get all the chicks??????? BUt it was cool him in charge.

And Casey ...being all mooshy....?? HAHHA! how cute... him asking sensei for advice, loved it. I was on the edge of my seat hoping Casey would say "marry me?" or at least i love you. i mean come on Casey, just get it out...way out.
I wonder if Don would be jealous...i think Don's gotta crush on her.

oh yeah, this ep is not on the DVD

No that's the thing. I don't think he ever gets the ladies. I mean how many girls has he been interested in and he's all lost. April. Sydney. And now Channa. Poor guy. :(

Quote:

->> APRIL n' Casey are gonna..do it!

Oh my God tOkka you are too much sometimes. I loved it.

Well as for the episode I thought it was...okay. Nothing special really. I believe the purpose of it was to advance certain plot ideas April and Casey, Leo's anger issue further. The whole alien thing seemed like a convenient plot device to do so. But for some reason it just didn't seem to work for me. The whole thing with Channa trying to win her people's election and the side story with April and Casey seemed like two different episodes. But man poor Don he never gets any props. :(

Nah, I think they just don't want to push the envelope too much yet. "I love you" implies marriage. "I care for you" implies going together. I mean, for example, Disney animation certainly doesn't have any problem with the phrase. Here, I think they just don't want the fairy-tale wedding quite yet. :)

Quote:

Couldn't be. The wound was his right shoulder, and that's the left side of his carapace that's messed up. The angle's wrong. Besides, if it went through him like that, he'd be dead.

I'm thinking the wound on Leo's shell was from when the Shredder shoved him at Karai... he kneed him in the back, and it was quite a powerful shove. It was more or less on the left side of his body, and the knee of the Shredder's suit had a blade on it.

Quote:

Heh... I watched it a million times when I was working on the first parts of my story... I can't really see any other place it would have happened. And it didn't show up right away... it's more like his carapace started rotting off there, later, like some major trauma. A deep gouge, maybe.

Oh please no... :goofygri:

Quote:

Probably before that, if he runs into Karai again. :(

Leo... he's lucky he didn't slash Jhanna to shreds before they even got to talk to her, sheesh.

He's been hurt really bad. He'd probably have taken it a whole lot better if he knew Karai had saved his life after she wounded him. It's sad. :(

Quote:

It just makes Donatello fans sigh. *sigh* See? :goofygri: I wonder what he's going to do with her hair...

GOOD POINT. IM GONNA HAVE TO LOOK THROUGH THOSE EPISODES AGAIN.

[MOMENTS LATER]

I CHECKED THE EPISODES AND LEO WAS SQUARLY KICKED IN THE MIDDLE OF HIS BACK BY SHREDDER. KARAI'S STAB WOUND WAS IN LEO'S LEFT SIDE AND HE WAS BANDAGED ON THE LEFT SIDE, ALTHOUGH NOT AS HEAVILY AS THE RIGHT SIDE. ALSO AT TIMES IT SEEMED THAT HE WAS HEAVILY BANDAGED ON HIS LEFT SIDE ASWELL. THERE IS ANIMATION INCONSISTANCY HERE.

ThemanthatwouldbeRaphael 09-17-2005 02:00 PM

I can't belive Donny killed that green alien. I mean he just flat out snapped his neck.

Donny's lost it. He scares me now. lol

BartAllen 09-17-2005 02:05 PM

lol " I hope you like them crispy"

did splinter grow any new hair?

Masked Ninja 09-17-2005 02:12 PM

He looks a little fuzzier now than last week.

LUCKYFF and Aska... you both bring up what's been bugging me ever since Exodus aired. Based on the way the whole "stab" shot was staged, I thought Karai stabbed Leo on the left (our right) side of the chest. But I was one of the unlucky folk whose station blanked out between the stab and the point where the Utroms freeze the ship. (So I was like... what? Why is the ship blowing up?) So I go searching for screenshots and see several of Leo holding his right (or left) shoulder! And now the left side of his shell is damaged...?

I really want to know what's going on! They'd better cover this soon...

StealthNinjaScyther 09-17-2005 02:17 PM

Good episode. Nice to see Don in the spotlight. I like how he immediately threw down his bow as soon as Jhanna activated her universal translator. Interested in her or the alien technology she has access to? Also liked the subtle jab at our own political process.
Don: "...It's a peaceful process."
Raph: "Most of the time."

Quote:

I didn't catch Donny snap its neck, I was too busy noticing that he brought him down straight into those large circular saws. Ouch.

zkarlette 09-17-2005 02:56 PM

I really liked this Ep lots of action and the guys are recuperating fast too..
It was really funny how casey was telling splinter it was time for him to go to bed :P

Is sad that Leo is still a little bitter with the hole situation :ohwell:

I really thought that Jhanna was going to give Don a kiss on the cheek or something... not a chunk of hair but well at least if he want to check on her DNA or something....
