Hallmark Leonardo Ornament

I got mine + one for a friend's bday present!I could post pics in here but just go here:

http://www.buslady.com/collection.htm

I think it is a really nice ornament, well detailed. Who cares if his scabbards are blue, I dont care. Everything about this figure it excellent. I can't wait to see Raphers...he'll be hotter than hot. heh...

MasterMole 09-24-2005 08:37 PM

Do you buy these in Hallmark Stores, and Are all 4 turtles being made? These are more show-accurate than Playmates' figures.

aramconbrat 09-24-2005 10:21 PM

i thought those guys were being released in October. I must go get one then!

Starscream 09-24-2005 11:02 PM

And that is how the figures should look.

BigApple3AM 09-24-2005 11:28 PM

I actually kinda like how the figures look now, it's kind of old school mirage mixed with the old cartoon, though I guess the toyline is for the new toon though, still I'm really glad the figures we got were released. Now instead of rereleasing them in every wave with new packaging, lets make some toon accurate figs like this one.

I'll defenitely stop by my hallmark store and pick up a couple of these, thanks for the heads up buslady, how much do these things cost though?

OA 09-25-2005 11:55 AM

Very nice! Glad to see these are out already...so did you get these in store or online? and as Ecto asked, how much?

aramconbrat 09-25-2005 03:00 PM

Ran around. A few Hallmarks told me to wait until the first of October (they just don't understand) but I did find a Hallmark with them out, so I picked up a few...

It is a gorgeous ornament! Perfect for the TMNT collectors. Hopefully they sell enough that they will make a different one every year for many many years to come! :D

TheCloneRanger 09-25-2005 04:44 PM

Strange...my family had a list of ornaments to get at the October Premiere...I don't think I've ever heard of Hallmark breaking a release date before, especially not this wide-spread.

This is an $8.95 or $14.95 ornament, Buslady? I don't have our "dream book" handy.

Edit: For all interested parties, the ornament is $12.95.

(Oh, and Buslady...it's a small world...my best friend is a member on "turtletimes.com", and I was reading over her shoulder one day and saw your name. Crazy.)

OA 09-25-2005 05:36 PM

hmmm...a bit pricey..but they sound to be very nice so i guess its worth it...

Drtooth 09-26-2005 12:31 PM

This is the FIRST TMNT ornament since the original 80's release. and it's much much better too. I mean, we had little wooden flat heads with bells on them, a round, stereotypical decoration with the turtles on it, and crappy little plastic ones. Almost got some of them too, somewhere.

All and all, it is THE ornament I want this year. The Kermit the Frog is nice, and I do like the turtle from Finding Nemo, but I have to have Leo.

TheCloneRanger 09-26-2005 04:18 PM

I called around and found on one my way to class today. I'll post some comparison shots when I get home.

Playmates should be ashamed.

Wow..so that big a difference huh? Who knows, maybe PM will take notice...

BigApple3AM 09-26-2005 08:03 PM

Well really it's not that big of a difference. Playmates currrent tmnt have more resemblance to the old mirage stuff and the old cartoon than the new one which is more stylized.
Main differences are:
Head, the PM beak extends too far out whereas the ornament and show have a much smaller more human-ish/frog head.
Legs, the show and ornament legs are more narrow and are closer together than the PM action figure. This is easier done on an ornament than an action figure. It is harder to do on an action figure but it is not impossible, it will limit the leg movement, but since the leg movement is already pretty limited it really wouldn't make a big difference at all other than looking better.
Color, this one is the biggie. You would be surprised how much a little color makes a big difference, this is why repaints are an effective way to make more money on certain toys (he-man, transformers, hell even TMNT). If the Playmate's Leonardo was a lighter green color skin tone, had a more yellow front piece, and was a bit more vibrant overall it would be much more cartoon accurate.

Thos are just the main differences, and by no means is the ornament perfect either, but it is much closer to the cartoon than the playmates figure. I like both.

I agree, it isn't perfect (the paint app gets me...the shade of green, maybe? I don't know, but something is off), but I would praise it infinitely over the Playmates figures. Why?

The figures and this ornament are meant to represent the 2003-Current Day TMNT cartoon...not the old 'toon, not the comics, but this toon. Out of a possible 100 in the likeness, I would give this a 90, and Playmates figures someplace around a 30.

OA 09-27-2005 03:56 PM

So is it comfirmed that they are only makin Leo or is there a possibiity for the others?

So let's hope it sells cases

Leonardo_ 09-27-2005 05:53 PM

Cool. I would like to have it, too, although I don't like the playmates. I wonder, if these will be sold here in germany, too, if the new toon is comming out here. :-?

OA 10-18-2005 03:21 PM

i've bought a few of my S.Wars ornaments at Mervyns over the years..

LUCKFF 11-11-2005 04:25 AM

Since There Is No Hallmark Here In Nyc (looked, Couldnt Find) I Had To Order Mines On Ebay. I Payed $18. From The Looks Of The Pics Buslady Posted In The 1st Post, I Know It Will Be Worth It.

OA 11-11-2005 10:27 AM

That sux about no Hallmarks..but they do sell them in Books a Million stores, and probably other large book retailes (barnes, borders) but I hvent checked so Im not sure...either way, you got it! :)

TheShowstoppa 11-11-2005 07:47 PM

I bought one way back in Oct. when they first came out. I would also like to say SCREW waiting for Christmas. I have this ornament hanging from my car rear view mirror. It hangs perfectly along with my graduation tassel and it compliments the Leo figure I have in my window. :) You guys should follow suit and hang yours where you are every day of the week... Except, maybe I'm too hardcore... Or too much of a geek!

Should have just posted on the Technodrome. The people here are extremely helpful and usually will do it at cost or near cost... I could have gotten you one and shipped it for less than $18US. But hey, all in the life of a collector though

*and I got my TMNT italian charm bracelet... Love it! I owe your post.. Would have never ordered otherwise! :-D

DID YOU GUYS GET THAT LAST LINE ON THE BACK OF THE BOX? MYSTICAL POWERS? THATS FUNNY.

aramconbrat 11-14-2005 04:43 PM

Your digital camera must be amazing... From capturing the engravings on the back of the TMNT italian charms to these photos... I am always enticed by the detail..

Looks like you finally got your figure. Looks like he has a few blue freckles of paint on his nose...

I dug through a case of them and looked at each paint job and found all the errors, and ended up by a few of them anyways... He is definately a great ornament...

So here's to dozens more in the coming years! Let's hope sales aren't just good, they must be phenomenal! No one on the Technodrome is allowed to "wait for the ornament to go on sale." The numbers they look at when determining whether or not to continue the series is how many units sold from release to Xmas... So none of that "after Xmas-sale" stuff people!

OA 11-14-2005 04:54 PM

Well, Ive done my part and picked up 2.. :)

aramconbrat 11-25-2005 09:26 PM

All Leo's are sold out here now! He was one of the first ornaments they ran out of (according to the manager at Hallmark) and they have had two shipments but he disappears off the shelf pretty quickly!

Good thing I'm impatient and bought a whole bunch when they first came out! And if there are any left the day after Xmas, they will all be mine too!

Jed 11-26-2005 09:54 AM

It's great news that he sold out really quickly (and quicker than most other ornaments), I'll hafta pick one up on eBay for when my Christmas decorations go up! A Mikey decoration with the exact look and pose as the cover of Mikey's Christmas Rescue DVD would be a great release for next year:)

Jo269976 11-26-2005 10:19 AM

ok.. hoping another present is under the tree.. hint hint :P

BigApple3AM 12-06-2005 01:25 PM

So I got the ornament today as a present. It wasn't something I was dying to have in the first place, but I'm glad I got it overall.

Still when I was making observations before I didn't have it in hand. Now that I do it seems to have more flaws than I thought. Now it's been a while since I've been in this thread, I don't even know what I said or what anyone else said though I remember posting. So if I contradict what I said before or state something already said then it just means I'm stupid.

The major flaw with this guy is that he's basically a human with a shell. The turtles have always been drawn or portrayed with the shell connected to the front yellow torso plate. This ornament is obviously based on the artwork of Michael Dooney (which itself is somewhat incorrect with how the turtles have always been drawn, but still very stylish) from the front, but they kind of made up the back part and gave Leo a butt. This looks ridiculous to me.

The paints are cartoon accurate, and the statue looks decent enough from the front, but I just can't help seeing a guy dressed up as a ninja turtle at some convention when I see this ornament.

The action figures, though they may be less cartoon accurate, are actually better designed and more true to the original turtles, and are actually more turtle like. The turtles have always been portrayed as more human than turtle, but this ornament goes to the very edge where the only thing turtle like is the color of the skin, the fingers and toes, and the shell (which looks like it's almost a backpack rather than part of the turtle himself).

Gary 12-10-2005 07:29 PM

I just got mine today. The only complaint I have is the pose he is in.
