Bad news for TMNT fans who collect @TRU

Well TMNT fans if you go to TOYS R US for your collecting needs you better find other places to get your toys. According to a manager of TOYS R US-he told me TOYS R US was bought out by another company and they will be getting less and less toys.

Example: The TMNT section at my TOYS R US was 1 whole entire area. But now it gets a small-small section with Star Wars spreaded out.

He also said slowly the stores would be closing 1 by 1 with Amazon.com being the last. Because with places like Walmart, Kmart & Target selling NInja TUrtles from 4.44-5.83, Toys R US can't compare anymore.

So sad :-( the Biggest Toy store we loved as a kid and sang the famous song too will no longer be existing. :(

And to think Toys R Us is a Texas Company, you would think it do better here but after Christmas the Toy shelves at Walmart and Target where very bare!

I know there are a few KBToyStores here left-but I heard rumor the KB Toy store @ Willowbrook may be the last KB ToyStore left because it sels better then the TRU.

:o Wow....

Buslady 12-28-2005 09:26 PM

I hate to say it but TRU is the most expensive toy store out there. They always were. I worked there 12 years ago and I remember them saying they never have sales but run those coupon flyers.
Walmart and target get the best selection and right now Target's getting the newest stuff first. I just got the new new new new 12" Raph fig.

Jester 12-28-2005 09:51 PM

:P I got Sevanti at Target too....TRU was just to expencive...and the one here seldom had new stock.

Turtle Dove 12-28-2005 11:16 PM

You know why right? I hate to say this but TRU came from Northern Texas (Dallas) the snobbest city in Texas. These people decided to choose THOSE high prices because they where used to the rich peope buying them. TRU is a rich ,snobby person's store.Us non rich people get Walmart & Target:lol:

That'sactually a SAD fact,my mother workedat the warehouse when it was here in Houston. She learned alot like this........... YOU WILL CRY.....

"When TRU was moving from Houston,Texas to Dallas,Texas they would throw away toys (M.I.B),sealed toys, OLD school toys in the garbage bins! Everyday-they would NOT give them to employers nor charitys like Toys For Tots. And camaras where on those garbage bins to make sure empliyers wren't digging through the trash. And also you where checked before entering work and when leaving work."

My mom said she saw old (80's Barbies thrown away, TMNT, Heman,She ra, Hot wheels, baby dolls, cars......

:tcry: All those toys thrown away instead of going to a charity.....stupid TRU

Buslady 12-28-2005 11:49 PM

Stupid TRU..they're BLASHPHEMOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jester 12-28-2005 11:50 PM

*contimplates finding old TRU dumpsters and diving.*

Turtle Dove 12-28-2005 11:55 PM

This is the SAD truth-my mom suspects when these TRU stores close what is NOT sold will be thrown away too. I seen a few TRU close, I'm tempted to break in 1 with a group of friends and go toy hunting w/ flash lights:lol:

Jester 12-28-2005 11:58 PM

If North Little Rocks closes (heck the stock is getting kinda thin) I might have to go dumpster diving...:P

Turtle Dove 12-28-2005 11:59 PM

hehehe I may go searching at the 1 near by. It's like REsturants and food stores-they just throw it away. THats what alot of places do

jestergoblin 12-29-2005 09:22 AM

Actually, the whole throwing out the toys is mandated by the companies that make them, not the companies that sell them. It is to prevent flooding of the market to maintain brand equity (Sorry. I'm a marketing major.)

Also, KB Toys is much more expensive around me for toys. $6.99 a figure. while my TRU is 5.99.

It is highly unlikely that they would throw out much if any merchandise. And if they did, they would probably be required to destroy it first. It is not unusual for stores to destroy some merchandise instead of returning it, but it is always at the request of the manufacturer. Unless Playmates decides to pay them to destroy their stock, they won't do so.

When stores do go under, they generally do one of several things:
-clearance/going out of business sales (the obvious solution with which most people are familiar.)

-transfers to other stores This is particularly common with larger chains. If they can't sell the merchandise in one store before it closes or if they have merchandise they do not want to sell for reduced prices (video game systems) they will ship them to another, better preforming store and sell the merchandise there.

-Liquidators/outlet stores There are quite a few businesses that run on buying up entire inventories at reduced prices and reselling them in their stores. Some times those inventories can be from store closings. Sometimes it is to clear out warehouses for the manufacturer. They will even buy inventories from disasters such as fires, floods or storm damage.

-Charitiable donation In a worst case scenerio, they would probably just donate the remaining stock to charity for the tax write off. Target does this a lot.

OA 12-29-2005 05:22 PM

Wow...sad to hear but like many of you, i don't regularly shop there becuase there prices are so high...not as high as Kmart and Kaybee ($6.99) but still higher than the $4.99-$5.99 at Target and WM...oh well...hopefully this doesnt cause TG ands WM to have price increases since they'll control a larger piece of the pie...

Actually my mom was told by the CEOs that "In the past they used to give these toys to their own employers but that alot of dishonest people would return them to a TRU and say they got it as a gift, or lost therecipt and wanted their money back. This ticked off the company so they decided just to throw it away.

OA 12-29-2005 08:44 PM

I wonder how they would keep track of such a thing...

Good point! That's easy, employees usual get a discount right? A number/a card. You'd be surprised how people track others

coryroo24 12-31-2005 03:42 PM

the sad thing is, is that walmart is destroying all specialty stores. They have the producers by the balls so to speak, so they can buy merch at the cheapest price, therefore sell it the cheapest. TRU, and KB just can't keep up. I shop at walmart, don't get me wrong, but they are destroying the economy, and eating up all the smaller chains. Afterall there moto for the new year is "The gloves are off".

You can't really blame them, the CEO's are smart but greedy as well. My mom still works for Walmart, get this they are paying her 1.50 more after the Super Center is complete.

But as much as I hate to admit it, if i was starting a business I might ask Walmart. Now as for clothes, it have to be a cold day in hell before I sell to Walmart.

But right now Walmart is selling TMNT toys starting @ 4.83 and if you work at Walmart you get 10% discount!:D

Man that would be nice....

pwnage 01-09-2006 07:59 PM

People, people, be rational here. Lets think about the clearance prices.

Turtle Dove 01-09-2006 09:02 PM

LOL I know you. Your going to run straight to the Transformers THEN TMNT:D

pwnage 01-09-2006 09:15 PM

Ha, Guilty as charged. TF's are bank!

ThirdMarioBro 01-09-2006 09:27 PM

Goddamit. There goes another chunk of my childhood to hell. They're really the only HUGH national Toy store. KB died, and they cost even more than Toy's R Us. Yeah, Wal-Mart is cheap, but their selection is limited.

More and more things I care about seem to die every day.

*clings to Nintendo like a Rubber Lifesaver*

*edit*

Is there any proof of this "death"? I googled it, and found they were bought out by an investment group, but I see nothing of them closing stores. Link please?

pwnage 01-09-2006 09:31 PM

You know Nintendo is going to end up like Sega?

:)

Turtle Dove 01-09-2006 09:46 PM

:( *Cries* Well I always liked Sega more anyways. If Nintendo falls it's cause of MSN in fact MSN might buy Nintendo

Thrid Mario-well i know they where talking about it at the warehouse, if it was in the paper somebody scan it?

ah what a world we live in. Where we buy each other out then own each other.

pwnage 01-09-2006 09:51 PM

Why would MSN buy Nintendo? Microsoft you mean? I dont think Mircosoft would be sucessful in buying the Nintendo Licences anyway, a lot of the genius developers would depart, just like what happened with Rare, and look where they are now :'(

Conkers BFD-- best game made by Rare, ever.

Ah same as the fate to Jaguar I recall they had a Tiny Toons game. Well that is pretty sad, alot of our youth is dying but will never fade away

Drtooth 01-10-2006 01:31 PM

Heh! It's funny that people assume TRU is a small business crushed by WalMart and Target. Didn't TRU crush a lot of other chains to be where it is? It's like a large distructive monster, tearing through the streets. When it gets wounded, it expects sympathy.

AS I posted on another site about the store closings, TRU screwed itself. They don't have a huge selection of stuff no one else sells anymore. It is true you can get great deals at Target. Hell, I got two of the TMNT wind ups from Christmas for 50 cents.... and one for 20! (had one as a present for Christmas already in case you think I need one more). 4.44 a figure? That's a massive bargain. In fact, unless you count clearance stuff, those are the cheapest action figures you can buy!

Last crap I bought at TRU was an Incredibles lollypop, an Incredibles Candy Juice dispenser, and a severly marked down, tagless Cosmo from Failry Oddparents for 50 cents.

:o whoa Preach it brother! Well I have to agree, nothing will destory TRu better then themselves. KB Toys was big for a bit till TRU crushed them. In fact, get this my mom sent me an annoucment....

Walmart is changing it's super center styles from a Box look to something else. My mom also said Walmart is expanding it's Toy Section at her store as wel as every other Walmart as well. So WAlmart is wasting no time to replace what TRU is about to lose!

When my mom was still working at the TRU warehouse ,she said TRU bought all the entire mattel line to keep KB Toys, WAlmart ,Target,Sears, etc from getting alot. But now we know Walmart is getting everything first, but Target is close behind! (With plans to turn their Targets into Super Targets)

What does this mean for Walmart? I dunno..maybe building a 2 story Walmart......nevermind rumor is there is 1 beening built here in Houston where a JCPenny once was.

Drtooth 01-10-2006 03:07 PM

I dunno... the one thing that gave KB Toys an edge was that it was in a mall. I mean, that's a high convienience factor. Seems if TRU CEO's were any smart, they would have put smaller TRU's in malls where KB's were closed down.

Turtle Dove 01-10-2006 03:44 PM

TRU must want more spce then what a mall will offer

GK Punk 01-10-2006 04:08 PM

Not All TRUs are going out of buisness actually. Just a handfull of them.

Turtle Dove 01-10-2006 04:44 PM

Maybe the huge ones, but in time they all fall. I know the 1 here by Willowbrook will close. With Super WAlmart next door, Target next to Super WAlmart, and KB Toystore inside the mall. That TRU is screwed:lol:

GK Punk 01-10-2006 05:15 PM

There's a TRU Nearby us that has a SuperWal-Mart down the street, and a Super Target right behind it. Thats the one we normally go to.

I've noticed in California, ones in bigger cities seem to be closing. San Fransico, Oakland etc.

Hmm the TRU in small cities might last longer then. The problem with with bigger cities like Houston,TX there are Targets,Super Targets,WalMart-Super Walmart, Sears,KOHL's,CVS, Walgreens,KB ToyStores, etc, etc that sell TMNT.TRU won't last long here, that sucks too. TRU is orignally from Texas. You'd think it be safe here

zkarlette 01-10-2006 06:57 PM

Around my So Cal area we still have a TRU , it was supposedly going to close but apparently it got saved somehow but toys are cheaper at Target...

which reminds me Turtle Dove I didn't know that there where super Targets:o

pwnage 01-10-2006 07:01 PM
