An age thing

I was laughing so hard after I left the store I had to share

I suppose when I am older and people age me down it will be a treat and compliment...but now, it still kinda surprises me. I'm not OLD, but it's been a couple minutes since i was in high school...and I am legal to drink and all that stuff. I get a chuckle now and again when a waitress cards me..though since turning 21 the rush of being carded has disappeared. Now it's just kinda an inconvenience.

Imagine my surprise when this morning I went grocery shopping and, while Iwas there I picked up a DVD of a movie on my list of "Movies I must own". The store has one of those self check out lanes and I go through those normally. I scanned my movie as my last item and the computer wanted an override...fine. I was not even thinking that this was an R rated movie..I have not thought about that in years....and here i must tell you that I normally do not bring my ID in stores. The lady came over, looked at the movie and looked at me and said...I can't sell this to you. Whaaat?

I asked her why and she said I was not old enough to buy it. My mouth hit the floor. Oh god, lady..I thought. I told her I'd be right back and went out to my car to get my ID. She thought it was fake...I kept on laughing. Her manager came over and held it up and finally ran it under an ultraviolet scanner thing that can tell a fake from a real one....It was SO funny!

I know I look alot younger than I am...but after all was said and done and I asked her how old she thought i was at first and she said 15...I've never passed that many years before! Man I will never forget that as long as I live :D

iris 07-23-2006 04:49 PM

Story of my life, Katie.

If I smile, or if the lighting's just so, I get mistaken for 17 (that's off by about a decade). I suppose it about suits my mental age though!

Usagi-San 07-23-2006 05:39 PM

When I shave I look 18 or so I'm told
With my beard I look my age of 25

Jo Dawn 07-23-2006 05:59 PM

I hear ya, Katie. I got carded going into a movie a few months ago. Ugh. That's about a decade off for me, too. Though, I don't carded half the time buying drinks anymore... But people ALWAYS age me down a bunch.

Usagi-San 07-23-2006 06:05 PM

I was carded when I saw Clerks II

Twice :(

Sewer Bull 07-24-2006 01:21 AM

When I was a teenager, people thought I was something like 23-24. And I could buy booze without any problems at all.

Now, when I'm actually 23, I sometimes get carded.

Bizarre world.

That Matt Guy 07-24-2006 07:39 AM

Never been carded for a movie and I usually don't get carded buying alcohol, because what underage kid tries to buy liquor at 10 AM? Speaking of which, I gotta go.

Spitfire 07-24-2006 07:47 AM

People are morons, some guy carded me a week before I was 18 and told me he wasn't supposed to sell me a M rated game but he would cause I was going to be 18 soon. I wanted to smack him for being a moron. It clearly says on the box 17+. I feel bad for my girlfriend cause she's 19 and everyone thinks she looks 14 or 15. Good thing she only ever goes to see movies with me, and doesn't drink or smoke haha

ThirdMarioBro 07-24-2006 08:53 AM

I look like a 35 year old loser with no life.

XERO 07-24-2006 09:38 AM

I look like I'm 25, act like I'm 17, play games like I'm 15, and dance like I'm 27.

Round that all up, you get this: A 22-year-old. :P

So you dance exceedingly well and with a tight sophistication belying your youth? :goof:

XERO 07-24-2006 11:30 AM

Oops... I meant 28.:|

iris 07-24-2006 11:55 AM

Smooth.

KROW 07-24-2006 12:04 PM

That'll never happen to me due to the small streak of gray in my hair, thanks to my bitch of an ex-girlfriend.

XERO 07-24-2006 12:06 PM

That's what dye is for, dude.:P

KROW 07-24-2006 12:08 PM

I didn't say it was on my head.

Just kidding.

Dye's not for me. I don't have the patience.

Really? I didn't see that in the job description.

Anywho...The co-workers think I'm in my mid-twenties, and that I'm married and such. They always ask me how my kids are and if mu husband is coming to visit on my break.

Tho, when I go to an airport or something like that they think I'm like...under 15. *shrugs*

XERO 07-24-2006 12:23 PM

I can't wait until I turn 30... so I can finally drink.

And when I get 40, WATCH OUT!!!! I'm gonna DRIVE!!!!

Hold on...!

Wait 'til I turn 60... I'M GONNA VOTE!!!! WHOOOOOHOOOOO!!!!

Actually, I got 21 from the numbers above.

Haha... and here I thought I was the only one who'd actually crunch the numbers! He'd actually have to dance like a 31-year-old.

I'm such a geek.

EDIT: Crap. I made a huge mistake.

Serp 07-24-2006 01:10 PM

I'm twenty and I look younger for my age. I could probably pass for a fourteen year old. When I don't shave, I look probably like I'm about seventeen. Last time I walked in the "PrOn" store, the guys all like "How Old are you?". I told him my age and his jaw hits the floor, funny stuff. Though I never really get carded, I hardly buy anything that involves getting carded. I fine with looking younger though and I'm in no hurry to age. I take it as it comes and enjoy life.

What mistake? Trying to work out the math of a joke? :)

Sewer Bull 07-24-2006 01:23 PM

Nay, I tried to make another mathematical joke about Ben but unfortunately it turned out to be an arithmetical error.

Jade Green 07-24-2006 01:24 PM

I am 23 and I sometimes get mistaken for 16. Strangely enough, I remember occurances at the age of 16 when I was mistaken for my little sister's mother... and she was six years old at the time.

I'd rather be mistaken for being younger, to tell you the truth. A close friend of mine is 22 but already has several white hairs that make him look like he's in his late 30s. He never gets carded for anything, it's a pity he's alergic to alcohol.

Jester 07-24-2006 01:24 PM

Ok, here's the deal. Like many of the other guys here, sans my facial hair I look much younger than I really am. in 3 days I'll be 22, here's my Drivers licence from back when I was about 19.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y13...lo/Licence.jpg
A co worker once asked me (she needed to see my DL to cash a check) how old I was when I got it made, "15, 16?" I answered, "19."
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y13...rangelo/ID.jpg
This is my recently renewed military ID. I look a bit older with the facial hair, but I've never really been carded for anything. Closest was being asked for my birthday...which isn't really that close considering I could have made up an ove 18 b-day. *shrugs* I dunna...all I know is I keep the goatee to look my age and not as I was asked once, "Do you go to the middle school?" "No, I'm a 3rd year college student...."

Katie 07-24-2006 02:07 PM

I thought it was hilarious....and I am VERY happy that I look cute and trendy enough that they think I am a teenager. I mean....what's better than looking the part without all the high school drama and other crap? :P

...and even funnier when you realize how old I really am (NOT telling ;))

XERO 07-24-2006 02:10 PM

Duh, everyone knows, Katie.

You said it in your intro thread.:P

Katie 07-24-2006 02:14 PM

Shut up, BEN!!!! :P

Really I don't care :D ....but it was funny...and under flourescent lights...and with no make-up on....and still limping around with crutches...I'm not exactly looking young here!

XERO 07-24-2006 02:15 PM

Okay... I think you're exaggerating with the crutches.:P

Katie 07-24-2006 02:18 PM

no! cross my heart! Since the whole car accident thing earlier this year I still use em when I am out walking for a long time...

XERO 07-24-2006 02:24 PM

If I could, Katie, I'd heal you completely.:)

Ah, but that's not your fault. Because before Ben can get to 27 years... first he must age half that age. Then, he must age half the remaining age. Then, he must age half of that remaining age. . . . and so on forever. The consequence is that he can never grow up. This is what mathematicians call, Ben's Paradox.

I thought they call it Zeno's paradox...

...wait! In that problem, Zeno of Elea showed the case of Achilles trying to reach... the turtle! So, there's still a place for Ben in this old Greek riddle.

iris 07-24-2006 03:19 PM

Zeno... Benvenuto... what matters is that they both end in "o".

gobo 07-24-2006 03:57 PM

I'm 26. Last NYE, a woman refused to sell me some visually delicious Boone's Farm (those colors are just so pretty! ^_^) because I had lost my ID. My 5 o'clock shadow shows up in the AM, but I'm told that I look younger than I am only by a few years. So, I imagine the woman was just being responsible. I don't need alcohol to have a good time anyway. What good is a party if you can't remember it in the morning?

The first rule of gentlemen's ettiquette says not to ask a lady how old she is. Instead, ask how young she is. ;)

Sorry. I couldn't resist. :sweatdro:
