Why doesn`t Donnie have a girlfriend?

All the guys have at least one girl they`ve been paired with over the years, but nothing but scientists for Donnie?

ZariusTwo 08-19-2006 10:46 PM

The original series always teased something between him and Irma, but never capatalised on it.

Vaderman 08-19-2006 11:20 PM

What girls have been paired up with the other turtles? I can only think of April off the top of my head.

Apparently:
Mikey - Neutrino girl Kala
Raphael - Mona Lisa
Leo - Lotus

Not that any of these were serious long-lasting relationships or something.

iris 08-20-2006 11:47 AM

I needed a silly laugh this morning, and the seeing title of this thread totally filled the bill. :goof:

Based on the scientists I know, I would doubt that Don thinks about romance as much as the other guys.

magidkaiser 08-20-2006 01:22 PM

don is polite ,he dont know any girl he defend the world that enought for him

Sage Ninja 08-23-2006 03:02 PM

I really think that Donatello in the old toon was just to supressed in some ways to ever fully allow him self the luxury of developing a crush on a girl. Also in the classic toon Donatello seems to think that humans are inferior in some ways, so maybe he thinks those types of emotions are beneath him or something. In the episode "The Gangs All here" when the turtles find cookies that could turn them human, Dontello really shows his disdain for the human race as a whole in that episode. I don't rember the exact wording but i think he said that the cookies would turn them into a life form worse then slugs and amebas or something.

Yeah I caught that too, perfect examples are Green with Jealousy, Doantello's Degree and one other one I can't rember. And you know I think Donatello was some what aware of Irma's infatution of him and the turtles because there where times where he seemed to be teasing her about it. Like that infamous line "Irma...I need you" from Turtle Snatchers episode, and irma's reaction! LOL

I thought Irma was just supposed to be 'boy-crazy'. It seemed to me that she would date any masculine creature that isn't a jerk. She dated Rex-1 after all.

Tora_Chan 08-24-2006 03:36 AM

Well, Donatello seemed to be interested in Jhanna in the original comic and the new cartoon (he keeps her hair in both cases), but that was pretty much it. Leonardo had Lotus and now Karai; Michelangelo had Kala, that Sara character from the Image comic and the Regenta (from what I've heard); Raph had Mona Lisa, Ninjara and that fox woman whose name I forgot. Seems like Donny is the real loner turtle, not Raph.

i agree with u there, i think don always hated humans but he cared alot about April ect, cause they were his friends.
in the new cartoon i think don really likes April cause they both got teh tech-no-geek thing going on. like in the epsidoe i think it's :trouble with angie, wen April hugs leo, don then asked for a hug.
see wat i mean?

She's a true romantic. As long as her romantic ideals are met, she isn't concerned with appearance.
But, we're applying rules to a program that had none. Don's dislike for the human race was only one writer's interpretation of the character. This is why the turtles themselves couldn't decide if they were reptiles or amphibians.

EDIT: If I had just edited my first post, everyone would just skip over it, thinking it was old news. So, get off my back. :P

Going slightly off-topic - nice signature pic, tmnt_girl. It would make a great av. Which TMNT episode does it come from?

I don't think that was just one writters interpertation of Donatello's character. There where other instances where he seemed to regard some sort of disdain toward humans. That was kind of his edge in the classic toon, he didn't really share the other turtles idealism toward life. Kinda makes him a realistic character. And I do believe Donatello was just to practical minded to ever explore that type of emotions.

And as to the the turtles developing crushes on humans. I think all of them in every medium has had crushes; Or had girls become romatically interested in them.

Classic Toon:

Leonardo: Lotus (mutaul)

Donatello: Irma (not mutaul but alluded to)

Raphael: Mona Lisa (one sided on the girls part...maybe)

Michaelangelo: Kala (mutual) Buffy (One sided on his part)

Archie comic

Leonardo: not sure

Donatello: not sure

Rapahel: Ninjira (mutaul very heavily involved)

Michaelangelo: I think he had a crush on some girl in Japan

Mirage/Image Comics

Leonardo: Karai (alluded to)

Donatello: not sure perhaps that aline girl who gave him her hair

Raphael: not sure, I think there was a ninja girl he liked in volume one, that he kept going to go spar with

Michaealngelo: Sara (mutual) Regeneta (Mutual...maybe)

New toon

Leonardo: Karai (alluded to)

Donatello: Arpil O'neil (almost blantant/ alluded to) Quarry (alluded to) the alian girl from the Peoples choice (maybe)

Raphael: none...Or maybe Joy from lost season, don't know yet.

Michaelangelo: none

Well it would seem that in the new toon Donatello seems to lump together the most amount of girl friends in any medium so far. So its hard to say that the tech turtle is girlfriendless. But out of all the mediums, the new toon is the only medium (so far) where Michaelangelo doesn't have a love interest or girl friend. Weird.

iris 08-24-2006 03:49 PM

Disdain for the human race was a general sentiment in the old toon and reflected a shifting part of the sociological climate of the late 80s. So it wasn't just Donatello. I'm not sure I'd have wanted to join the human race back then either. But I don't think you can equate that to a dislike for individual humans... it was just a general thing. Kind of like whether you think it's believable that the kids would have killed each other in Lord of the Flies.

i agree with you!

Hehe, Donnie's a 'Ladies Man'.

I laugh in this series, because he's always saving the girl or moving her out of the way or somesuch thing. I'm sure they're all gentlemen...but he's just a true one. Heh, sooo in character. :)

Oh, that's completely canon and supposed to be there (as per, well... Laird, heh). (Not that you were denying it. I'm just tellin' ya.) And I loved that part of the 2K3 series. Too bad we wn't see it anymore. I thought it made for an interesting dynamic, and one that they could have explored fully. So, the ONE interesting fact about FF for me, was... that April, Don and CASEY made O'Neil Tech. But I'm sure we won't get any kinda back story on that, either.

yh i agree with u, but Leo aint doing to bad either, out of all of them i think it's Leo and don that are more protective of women and people, but Don has to do it the most. like in, Return of Savanti Romero don was there to help Renet more than any of the other turtles.

ok the episode it's from is: Tale of Master Yoshi
mikey is complaining about lack of tv and asked to be put out of his misery so Raph gladly offeres, but he quickly changes his mind, and thats the picture i got when raph changes his mind. (i'm guessing he's seen splinters or someone alone those lines.)

you know the whole April and Donatello thing was a great dynamic. I agree with you. And it was so subtly done as well, because if you think about it April and Donnie have more in commom and chemistry than goofy Casey and April. I was sorely acheing for the friendship and kinship that April and Don had with each other to add tension between Casey and April. In fact i was looking for that portion of the mirage comic where Casey gets mouthy with Donatello, and Donatello hits him with his bo into the river to be some how incorporated into the toon, with Casey maybe becomeing jealous of Donatello. That would have been awsome and made for a good plot if this had been done, if Casey and Donatello had a confrontation like this over April.

But alas that us not to be since FF made its debut on our screens and they got rid of Casey and April.

Jo Dawn 08-30-2006 10:23 PM

*sobs* Darn straight. I totally agree with you. I was waiting for all that, too.

Sooo much interesting storyline. Sooo many reactions to be had.

Man, we totally got screwed. *kicks pebble*

tmnt_girl 08-31-2006 10:36 AM

lol! casey is soo anoyin i dont see how april can put up with him, don isnt annoyin, nor any of the otehr turtles.. well except mikey...

iris 08-31-2006 01:29 PM

Don isn't annoying, but he's way younger than April.

gobo 08-31-2006 02:56 PM

I hadn't considered the age thing... They're eight years apart as far as anyone knows. So, that's two moral dilemmas to overcome. For the situation, Casey is just a more convenient answer. No hiding is involved, and the possibility of a normal family life is more likely. Poor Donny would have to fake a headache so often that he'd start giving himself headaches.

Jo Dawn 08-31-2006 03:28 PM

...I never considered the age thing, becaude I don't think 8 years is all that much, considering.

I mean, in real life, if someone's 15 or whatever, 8 years is probably too much. After you hit about 19, 8 years is NOTHING.

In their situation, I don't think 8 years is anything, really...

iris 08-31-2006 03:41 PM

Depends which universe you're talking about. In the the 2K3 series, I think Don and the guys are around 16 (or at the oldest 17). In FF Dan said they're supposed to be 16, and in the old toon I think they were somewhere between 14-16? I don't think they'd have written Case as feeling threatened by Don & April's friendship in any of the toons, but the turtles are older in some of the comics.

gobo 08-31-2006 04:49 PM

And, also, we have to consider this:
Spoiler:
the inter-species erotica people

No respectable franchise can do more than hint at such a thing without comments that started out as a joke becoming a serious controversy. Example: If Tinky-Winky is a toddler, how can he be gay? This is a light-hearted approach to the topic and my chance to use a phrase I first heard in Clerks II. Had it not been for the latter, I probably wouldn't have posted it.

That was the only part of the argument that was even remotely valid. But, then again Teri Hatcher got to be Lois Lane, illustrating the fact that women who objectified themselves for film in the past, AKA nude-scenes, aren't limited to productions centered on adult themes. Had it not been for its status as a classic, The Canterbury Tales would have been banned as a work of pornography. Other examples exist, but they elude me at the moment.

P.S. - The Beast wasn't originally a wolf. That's the most common justification I hear though I think it's rather weak.

iris 08-31-2006 08:50 PM

It is indeed a classic. I read Beaumont's La Belle et la BĂȘte in school. If there were real repercussions, Disney wouldn't have umpteen gazillion incarnations and reincarnations, including a cartoon series, sequels, and a friggin' Broadway production. There are huge exceptions made for fairy tales... like "The Ram" (a classic tale of girl meets goat, girl loves goat, girl's father locks her up for her own good). And some of the greek mythology stories... yeowch. But anywayyyyyy....... I can understand why they've avoided it with TMNT.

tmnt_girl 09-02-2006 01:15 PM

i dont really think age matters to be honest, lets say they did like each otehr then nothin should stop them, seriously i think casey is annoying but i find it so funny how first of all Casey and April start out as enemies but then go out i think it's funny! and i also like it wen they're at a christmas party down at the lair and casey tries to kiss April but ends up getting hit across the face! i find it sooo funny!

Mikey isn't annoying, he is just a shameless attention whore :P

Casey may appear like a lunk head at times but he is studly and has those sexy blue eyes of his, seriously its his best feature. I think that sort of compensates just a bit. The only problem I have with April and Casey pairing is that it reeks of convience.

Now Donatello and April just seem like they are a more equal intectual and personality level than Casey and April. The only thing they have going in my mind is the cliche, opposites attract.

But to sum this up, as far as the new toon is concerned Donatello doesn't have a shortage of girlfriends, or is the least bit shy with the fairer sex. new toon Don is a play boy ;)

i have to agree with u, teh new don is a play boy, he seems to be the one turtle who gets closer to all the girls then any other turtle.

Sage Ninja 09-09-2006 11:51 AM

which is a real switch considering in all other mediums he seems to asexual, just like old toon April. I would have really loved an Irma+Donatello pairing. In the Mirage Comics did Donatello have a girl friend, or love interest?

Raphael_Fan 09-21-2006 03:11 PM

They got girlfriends now!?!?! Okey :o Raph, leo and Mikey?? okey that is the girls name??

I don't know but,I think some of them had a intesrest in April in the old toon

Sage Ninja 09-26-2006 04:28 PM

they all acted like they wanted to get into April's pants in the old toon. Sometimes their actions where down right explicit, especially in the episode April's Fool. But if you ask me Leonardo is the only one that really seemed the closest to April in the old toon. He usaully showed the most concern for her safity.

In the new toon the boys (especially Raphael and Michaelangelo) seem to be asexual. Which doesn't bother exactly, but it would be nice to see them show some invested intrest in girls. I think if done up right, it could serve as a good dynamic angle and re-inforce how different they are and that their are some aspects of life that they'll never get to enjoy because they are what they are.

NightwatchersOnlygirl 10-25-2006 07:01 AM

What Raphael got a girlfriend,he got one all redely Raphaelsgirl
Back to Donnie I sure that some girl Liikes him
