April's Stats

Just wondering, what are April's stats? From the vintage action figure this is what I have so far:

Birthplace: The Valley (what or where is "The Valley")
Height: 5'5
Weight: 115 lbs (although I have seen some vintage April figures that say 105 lbs. That seems too thin.)
Age: 25

Does anyone else have any other stats for April?

Pioneer Valley (or is it Connecticut River Valley?)... that's where Northampton is! Natch! ;)

I guess she dropped a few pounds since meeting the turtles. Considering hanging around all that pizza that's pretty impressive.

But yeah 105 pounds sounds really light. Like in Batman when Vicki Vale says she's 108 pounds.

Sage Ninja 11-04-2006 11:45 AM

old toon April didn't act like a valley girl though. I never got that "like oh my Gawd" vibe from her at all. April was more cultured than that.

and as far as hight goes, I would say she is more 5 foot 9 than 5'5. I mean she towers over the turtles head and shoulders, and I always felt that the turtles where 5 foot 1 or 2 or something along those lines. :ohwell:

http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/8611/tmntzb1.png

Those are her stats in the arcade game. Seems to be in agreement that she's 5'5 and 115 pounds.

According to April, the Ravishing Reporter, she's "99.9 lbs. wearing chains ". Was that supposed to be the April character giving her own weight? Because if that was the case Vicki Vale was more believable at 108.

sdp 11-07-2006 09:59 PM

what about new toon april?

Mr._Mutant_Man 11-07-2006 11:43 PM

According to the official site, she stands at a height of five feet eight inches, and tips the scales at an astonishing one hundred twenty five pounds, the belly shirt wearing sidekick of the Ninja Turtles...April "Carrot Top" O'Nnneeeiiilllll.

http://www.ninjaturtles.com/html/profile5.htm

I do remember that profile once having a different pic of April though.

discordiatookie 11-09-2006 07:12 PM

for a cartoon character i find her strangely attractive... (new toon) is this wrong?

also, rogue from x-men, original toon :P

Katie 11-09-2006 09:03 PM

somebody likes amazingly buxom red heads  ;)

gobo 11-09-2006 10:23 PM

:blanksta: 125 lbs. is buxom?? In all honesty, I find new toon April to be attractive as well. She's smart, funny, friendly, reasonable, and not hard to look at (that last one may be an understatement, but I ain't drooling over no 'toon... not in public anyway :goof: ). The downside is that she's not real. But, hopefully, I can find someone in my area who fits that general description. :goofygri: Stranger things have happened...

April found a way to make it happen. Or we're getting more Vicki Vale-like lying about her weight.

Ra 11-10-2006 04:54 AM

I've always thought of April as this -

Name: April O'Neil
Job: Lab Assistant/News Reporter/Antique Shop Owner
Height: 5'8" - 5'9"
Weight: 125lb - 130lb
Hair: Red or Red/Brown
Specialty: Computers, adventuring into the unknown, and can hold her ground when in a fight instead of being captured all the time by the bad guys

That's all I think we need to know, is it?

Mr._Mutant_Man 11-10-2006 11:32 AM

This got me thinking, was there ever a time in the series where April brought up her weight/was worried about it? Because I've heard of other times where she had a vain streak(like complaining about being a 27 year old "hag"). I remember in the Archie mini-series she complained that she was putting on weight while squeezing through a sewer drain.

CPK 11-27-2006 06:44 AM

Well, different sources are always going to give of stats that are a little off, I've got an old annual from 1991 that lists her stats as this:

Age: "About 25"
Height: 1.6M (5'5")
Weight: 52Kg (115 lbs)

I can't remember a time in the original cartoon when she moaned about her weight, although she did tell Irma to watch hers a few times. Her age was mentioned as 28 in Leatherhead: Terror of the Swamp, and her height was never given.

Seems the only time she mentions her weight herself is in that Archie comic..... but I haven't seen that, so I can't comment.

When did she tell Irma that? Was that the episode where Irma became a giant? April must be some friend...

Yeah, the Archie comic pretty much added a bit of dialogue in the mini-series during the scene where she was getting away from the punks. As she's halfway through that narrow sewer drain she says to herself, "ouch, this is a tight squeeze. You must be putting on weight, O'Neil." I also still have the cassette tape from that comic. I got another copy of that comic a few years ago.

CPK 11-28-2006 04:16 PM

It's at the end of the 50" Irma episode. April keeps on about Irma's diet. When I remember where the episode is, I'll get a more accurate description.

Speaking of which, I vaguely remember in one of the European vacation episodes, that when April's assignment was changed to a food tasting story, Irma said to April to look on the bright side.... she'd probably gain a ton of weight. Not quite sure what that means, but hey.

Her age can be explained in that she gets 1 year older every series, which seems logical, and as for her height, I've got no information at all.

Mr._Mutant_Man 11-28-2006 04:35 PM

I guess Irma was being sarcastic when she implied that April was going to gain a ton of weight. Unless Irma was trying to imply that it would make it harder for ROcksteady and Bebop to nab April.

Heh, I'm watching the 50' Irma episode now. April sure makes a big deal about Irma being on a diet, and making sure she doesn't go off of it. April might as well call her a fatty.

So anyway at the end Irma goes after the Turtle's pizza and they refer to her as a little lady. Then April tells Irma, "you'll never be called a little lady again if you keep eating like that. What about your diet?" Then Irma tells her that she doesn't need to diet anymore since she lost ten thousand pounds.

Man, April really got on Irma's case about her weight.

CPK 11-29-2006 04:36 AM

I guess it's a love hate relationship.... I guess April has to keep her weight down, not allowing herself to eat anything fattening, as she is a news reporter after all, so she's not going to let anyone else eat all that junk food if she can't.....

In The Big Break-In, when April gets blasted at by Krangs minimiser, she claims that she would like to loose a few pounds, but not that way.

As far as her height goes, she has to be over 5", considering the turtles mention their height as 5" in both The Great Boldini, and Zach and the Alien Invaders, and Vernon's height is quoted to be about 5"11" in The Case of the Hot Kimono, so she's somewhere between 5' and 5'11, as Vernon appears to be taller than her.

Well the camera does supposedly add a few pounds, and April is the one always in front of it, so April probably does have to watch her weight.

At first I thought April was just being mean, and it would have been good if that episode ended with say...them in April's apartment, and April happens to step on the scale and sees she's gained a few pounds, then Irma could enjoy the tables having turned. But you bring up a good point with the whole April probably has to watch her figure thing. Probably something difficult when you hang out with pizza obsessed turtles.

Heh, I was watching Case of the Hot Kimono and April's aunt says that she's developed a taste for odd pizza toppings, so I guess she has picked up the Turtle's eating habits to some extent. All that running around looking for stories must keep it from showing.:)

Okay, a bit of a blast from the past, but I was looking back at this and remembered something I noticed on the action figure stat cards.

Original April: 115 pounds
April: 105 lbs.without pad and pencil
Ninja Newscaster:105 lbs. We Think. She won't tell us.
Ravishing Reporter:99.9 lbs. wearing chains

That stat seemed to change quite a bit. Towards the end it seemed like she was getting a little hung up about her weight, because the number kept getting lower or she decided not to tell them.

Also, 99.9? Turtles need to get the ravishing reporter a pizza hookup, stat!

Rooish 02-07-2007 07:48 AM

Maybe the turtles can train her in the ways of pizza power?

I put April in the search engine and found an old thread that talked about April and whether she hit the gym or not. I don't want to resurrect a thread that old but here's some of it:

You can obvilously see that she is getting some tone, and a small "4" pack forming there. I am glad she is trying to get away from the "computer" geek stereotype. Makes it more beleivable that she's able to get out of some of those situations too!

Discussion about April's exercise habits had me thinking of TMNT II when she mentioned "her aerobics".:)

sdp 02-13-2007 11:34 AM

of course mostly tongue in cheek, but its true, april has some abs, though thats new toon april, i'm not so sure about old toon april.

you know now that you mention it April was being a little bitch about Irma's weight in that episode. I was like "so what if she is about the break her diet! Mind your own bussiness!"

I mean seriously its not like Irma was morbidly fat or anything. April acted like it has detrimental to Irma's health if she went off her diet. It made me wonder if maybe there was some off screen scene where Irma confides in April that her cholestral is up and she has to watch what she eats, and that was why April was like "OMG no Irma you can't go off your diet!" Other wise it just seemed like April was just over reacting or being a controlling friend.

Mr._Mutant_Man 02-13-2007 01:43 PM

April's actions couldn't have possibly been that great for Irma's confidence.

My guess would be that maybe April herself is pretty weight conscious. I mentioned before, in the first Adventures issue when she is trying to squeeze through the sewer drain she comments that since it is a tight squeeze that she must be putting on weight. Not to mention that considering she hangs out around pizza all the time with the turtles, if she ever picked up their eating habits she'd probably blow up. As a result, maybe Irma not taking her diet seriously got to April. But still, April should have backed off.

As far as whether old toon April hits the gym or not, either that or she has amazing willpower to not scarf down whatever the turtles are having. I mean, the turtles have their ninja exploits so they can keep eating that pizza (except for Michelangelo in that one future episode). But if April picked up their habits, the Channel 6 cameras wouldn't be the only things adding pounds.

Mr. Arctic 02-13-2007 02:26 PM

in watching the dvd's of the old toon, ive noticed that in dealing with stereotypes and portrayals of women, the old toon was slightly sexist. the whole april/irma weight thing is one example. anyway, thats how it was back then i guess (and most likely it was male writers coming up with that stuff). still it couldve been worse.

personally, if april was 5'8" and 115 labs, i think that is pretty unattractive and unrealistic. but looking at how she is drawn in the old cartoon and in the comicsl, she is tall, yes, but is definately more curvaceous than 115 lbs would allow. id guess more about 125-130. thats more of an average weight for someone that height.

and id take april over jessica rabbit any day. jessica is hot, but there is something about april... maybe its that jumpsuit.

Well as far as the weight thing goes, at least April wasn't like Cathy. So far we have...three times April brings up her weight, and one is just assumed based on how she's concerned with Irma's diet. It wasn't like we saw April in a fitting room every other week fretting over fitting into a swimsuit. Irma on the other hand, was pretty Cathy-like. Because if it wasn't her weight it was her being pretty hungry for male attention.

And according to a movie magazine, April weighs in at 128 pounds. A little more reasonable it seems considering, like you said, how curvy she was in the toon (which the actress in the movie said she sure wasn't when asked about the yellow jumpsuit). Also, according to an apparent typo Casey weighs as much as April.:)

Pic is thanks to the TMNT movie site.
