Here's what TMNT is up against

First Snow (2006/I)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2007)

Last Mimzy, The (2007)

So 3 of those are limited release and the others I never heard of. The only two on there that sound interesting to me are Dead Silence, which will probably be another Ring, Grudge-ish horror suck-fest and First Snow which looks interesting. And before TMNT comes out I see no other big name movies that I have heard about already.

Now to say TMNT will take the #1 slot is a huge long shot but it seems possible. The only kids movie I see up there to compete with it is The Last Mimzy and kids movies usually take the top spot when there's no other major releases.

The news about TMNT is actually buzzing so who knows what might happen. What do you predict?

Thats the competition? In that case. I'd say Top 3 definitley. And I'm 70% sure they'll take the top spot, only if one of those doesn't turn out to be some big sleeper hit. But I doubt that.

Good movies rarely ever get top spots, so even if any of those are good slim chance*I call is Lord Of War Syndrome*. Only planned ones like Casino Royal or Spider-man usually do. When it's a dry spell those movies stay in the top for awhile till a kids flick or something comes out.

So unless a movie from the previous weeks is good and stays there I say yeah like you said Top spot maybe a good chance.

It is up to the children and teenagers, who go to more movies than adults do.

ATHF will be out in March. The Kevin Smith followers will certainly be torn.

Well, I'm a Smith fan, but I'm not torn, lol. Though I'm kinda biased... ;) I'll see TMNT first, of course.

So does 300 but that's on the 9th, so unless it's REALLY good the thunder from that will have wore off.

Personally I know alot of people who hate Aqua Teen and alot who love it but no adults will go see that and no kids will go see it either so TMNT will beat that simply on the basis that it's a family film and one that a larger adult fan base will go to*I don't know anyone past the age of 22 who thinks Aqua Teen is funny*

I doubt ATHF will be that big. Don't get me wrong, I love the show, I just don't think anyone outside the fanbase would get it.

Besides, ATHF is coming out March 16. No need to choose.

What comes out the week prior to TMNT?
None of those sound like hits either...TMNT may make the top spot it's week.

i know i will definitely want to see the ATHF movie, cuz i love the show, but i don't know if i want to go see it in theatures (and highly doubt they get it at my local theature anyways, and who knows i might have to make a road trip to go see the ninja turtle movie, cuz my theature is retarded)....but i hope ur predictions are right and we can make the movie be in the top 3 spots (hopefully first) and from everything i've heard, i think it has an actual shot

I'm sure it'll hit #1 for the first week, but the following week the new Disney CGI movie comes out, which will probably take over.

I think it would be alot of fun for groups of us to get together in our geographic areas to see it on opening day.


I'm going to be in Vegas that day.....

All they have to do now is start advertising the darn movie!

But yeah the new Disney movie WILL take the top spot for sure when it comes out. And the studio knew TMNT couldn't beat out Ghost Rider so they gave that spot up.

I know I've heard a few peeps here talk about being in New Orleans, but only one said anything about Baton Rouge... and that was me. But, viewing parties won't help get less enthusiastic butts in the theater anyway. So, I think I'll stick to my plan of individually dragging each of my Jackass-loving friends to see it.

I'm making my friends go. One of them is actually excited to see it.

I have two friends that are gung-ho about seeing the movie, and most everyone else I talk to at least sounds positive, especially when I show them some of the screenshots.

I just hope my movie plex don't stick the film in one of the smaller theaters. That would like totally suck!

What's so great about a midnight showing? I'd be surprised in as much as no kids would be expected to show up that late and therefore glad that it's getting the respect it deserves for not being just children's entertainment. But, I don't think I'd go that late at night.

I love midnight showings because for "event" movies, they have the best crowds to see the movie with. I have no issues with the lateness.

I really DO want to see the movie for the first time with a big crowd. If there is no midnight show that means I have to decide between seeing the first showing during the day with a small crowd or wait til that night for a full crowd. But that will also be dictated by the people I'll be going with.

I could see myself going to both a morning and night show on Friday.

Same for me. This will definately be a multiple viewing event.

I probably wouldn't wait and just hit the earliest showing they have. But I would like to see it with a crowd, to get a sense of the reaction.

I think that I will go for an evening showing due to my normal life.

I'll go at the 9:00pm - 10:00pm showing on Friday. Seems like a good time to go to a most aniticipated movie.

If I have the day off I'm going in the morning opening day. I can't wait.

I think it will be #1 for the weekend. TMNT is really smart in avoiding the whole summer movie season which will be a huge battleground this year.

Voltron and I are probably going to the midnight show. It should be an amazing adventure.

As a person who regularly converses with people outside of the TMNT fan realm, or indeed, out of geekdom at all, I have to say that buzz for this movie is beginning to build in a large fashion. I personally know of a bunch of people in my age group (19-23), who haven't followed the TMNT since the 90's, yet they're completely hyped for this movie. People in my age bracket have a great love for the TMNT, and this movie looks promising to many of them.

My hopes for it are very very high. Cool CGI films tend to get by on the fact that they're CGI alone, and this is based off of what is arguably the biggest franchise of the early 90's. I think it'll do quite well, especially when compared to the group of movies it will be going head to head with.

Yeah I've talked to tons of people at work, and a bunch of friends and most of them are excited about it. Not one person I've talked to has said they didn't want to see it either.

I have high hopes for it too and faith that they know what their doing. I might just go to a midnight showing myself if they do one. I'm a fan of a few series but for some reason TMNT is just one of them that makes me want to go see it as soon as I can, even if that means a midnight showing. I've never been to one before.

Here, here. I don't enjoy being packed like sardines in a theatre, but with great, big blockbusters I really enjoy hearing the audience reaction. (Rocky Balboa, Casino Royale being prime examples.)

Where i live only huge movies like Starwars, LOTR, SUperman Returns, Batman Begins have had midnight shows so i doubt TMNT will have one.

I'd definately see it at night though, as big of a fan that i am i can wait a few hours more, its always feels better.

i hope the movie does good and it looks very positive to be high in the ranks with the other shows it is in the runnings with. so i don't think #1 would be completely out of the question. they definitely need to start airing some trailers on tv though to increase the hype a bit. hopefully at the beginning of Feb. they will do so. and i'll definitely be going to see it asap.

I've been a long time fan of the Turtles but have never really gone out of my way to post on a message board until I saw the trailer for the new film. So for someone that has been out of the game since a little after the 3rd movie and not really following the new series or Comics (shamefully) I have to say my only true concern over the new movie is the lack of Shredder as a villain. I know the Shredder card is old but for people who haven't followed the series for a long time, I think they may find that hard to follow. Other than that one little snag (and it is little as the film looks amazing) I think this will reach number 1 in it's first week at the US box office at least, even with very little advertising.

I live in the UK and have a whole group of people who are interested in going who aren't even as big a fan as I am and most have only seen the teaser, so for me the nostalgia is something in itself to advertise this film. So long as the movie is done well enough to keep those fans (which after looking at Kevin Munroe's interview and dedication i'm sure it will) then there should be room for a sequel
