4Kids Posts Million-Dollar Loss in 2006
By Maxie Zeus 03-16-2007, 11:36 AM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4Kids Entertainment lost $2.3 million in the fourth quarter of 2006 on revenues of $18.3 million, the company announced today. That compares to a $500,000 profit on revenues of $23.5 million in the same quarter of 2005. For the year, 4Kids lost $1 million on revenues of $71.8 million, compared to 2005 earnings of $5.1 million on revenues of $80.6 million. The company blames the drops on declining licensing revenue from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Yu-Gi-Oh! and falling sales revenues at 4Kids TV. Chairman Alfred Kahn says the company has instituted a number of cost-cutting activities, but it is also negotiating a multi-year extension of its agreement with Fox to carry 4Kids TV. Kahn also noted that the company has cash and investments of $111 million and carries no debt. ================================== we were talking about this on another forum I randomly post in and someone pointed out that maybe if 4kids is losing money like this they may choose to air the lost season because that's a sunk cost to them (ie, it's already been animated and whatnot) instead of spending the money they would have on new Fast Forward episodes... |
Sure, blame it on the Turtles. Maybe if they changed the name and showed stuff other than badly dubbed anime, they wouldn't have this problem.

Well if you think about it, this is profits from 4th quarter of last year, which woulda been when FastFoward started/was airing. This should show them(if they open their eyes and actually think for once) that the 2k3 series, in the present, with the darker tone was doing much better, and the change/jump to FastFoward was a huge mistake. |
I'm not sure if this is good news or bad, I guess it all depends on how 4kids takes this.
|
Ouch that's not good news. Profit cuts? FF is about as profit cut as you can get. They cut it anymore and I can't imagine what it'll look like.

4Kids Profit Falls Again 9% decline brings net income to $34,0004Kids's second quarter revenue fell from $18 million in 2005 to $16.7 million this year, Chairman and CEO Al Kahn reported in a conference call. The company also reported a net income of $34,000. Kahn cited $1.7 million in severance costs as part of the $2.1 million increase in "general and administrative expenses" since Q2 2005. "While we experienced gains in revenues attributable to our Yu-Gi-Oh!, Cabbage Patch Kids and The Winx Club brands, these gains were offset by declines in revenues from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the American Kennel Club properties," Kahn said. Yu-Gi-Oh!'s additional revenue of $2.8 million is owed to "changes in the manner in which sales are calculated by a licensee," he said. Kahn also cited 4Kids's new strategy of owning a property rather than licensing it, which he said hurt short-term profits this quarter. He further emphasized that 4Kids has no long term debt and retains $113.5 million "in the bank." --- I just saw the movie. It will likely do well and there'll be more episodes beyond the ones they are making now with the TMNT back in the present. |

I do not care much for the other 4kids shows. tmnt is where it's at and they had to make a new series lol. Well at least the show isn't that bad.. Better than Next mutation..
Support the movie, watch it, if the money comes in, 4kids will contuine tmnt! |
Ooo...dang. This does not look good. Not good at all... *shakes her head*
Judging by this, it looks like 4Kids is all set up to take Yugi-oh and TMNT off the air. I really hope this isn't the case and it's just my bad judgement getting the better of me, but I really can't help but think that. It's just horrible...first they start choking the turtles with the introduction of Fast Forward, and now they are blaming them for bad sales. Oh, how I hate them! |
that looks a lot like the one they said last year. Including blaming TMNT and Yugi

F*ckin' idiots. |
If 4Kids decides to drop TMNT hopefully we'll get something closer to the tone of the new movie provided it does well. I'd rather it not come to that and they just put them in the present again and air the lost season.
|
Well, maybe if Fox4kids cancells TMNT, someone else (like the WB maybe) will pick it up and treat it right.
|
What do you mean "treat it right"?

Thanks! I also would like to see the TMNT tried during prime time (kind of like the Simpsons) or maybe later in the night like South Park. Then it wont be so restricted. |
*nods* Yes. I remember a few years ago when "Teen Titans" was at it's peek I thought of giving Cartoon Network an idea of an hour screening (probably from 8 'til 9) called "The Teen Power Hour" or something like that. TMNT wouldn't have been so restricted and would have great ratings, and I think Teen Titans was already shown at that time and probably would benefit from the suggested move. I wonder if they will consider picking that up if given the chance? :-?
