Things that could have made FF better

Here is an idea, you had the power to do so, what would you have done to make FF better? The basic concept has it remain the same (the Turtles get sent to the year 2105) but you can change anything else, what would you do?

DrSpengler 03-27-2007 05:53 PM

Maybe loosely adapt Mike's Mirage Vol. 4 storyline with the Triceratons and Styracodons. I think there's a lot of potential for the Triceratons in FF but so far all we've seen are cameos. I mean, they go from feared alien conquerers to...delivery boys.

Obviously, the whole "simplified character designs" thing would be an instant no-no. I still think Dong Woo's animation for FF is alright, but the angular redesigns can be a bit unsightly.

NEW THEME SONG.

Make the Dark Turtles a bigger threat. I mean, so far I've only seen "Bad Blood" (all I've seen of FF I watched on that season 1 DVD) and they were a real let down. I'd have given them a much greater skill and power boost so even with their weapons and in a fiar fight they're more than a match for the TMNT, leaving the TMNT to have to work really hard to beat their more powerful adversaries. As it stands, they're no more dangerous than throw-away villains like Triple Threat.

NO "It's Ninja Time!" Ever. Never ever ever ever ever.

Personally, I don't think FF is the anti-christ some have made it out to be, but it definately is a downgrade in quality and could have been much better if they'd just be a little more daring.

Spacefille 03-30-2007 01:29 AM

I have yet to see any of Fast Forward, but I'm guessing from what I've heard, Fast Forward is like the "Goliath Chronicles" of Gargoyles. (... which killed Gargoyles completely, but that's besides the point.)

Am I somewhat correct in that statement someone who has seen both?

Casual Matt 03-30-2007 06:29 AM

Two things:
  • Shout something other than "It's Ninja Time" or nothing at all. I'm not saying to never say it, or to always say something, but having the same battle cry every time gets tiring.
  • More episodes set at night. I know the turtles are pretty much free to walk around in the daylight, but they're still ninjas, and I'd like to see more of their ninja stealth.

I agree. I was watching "Cousin Sid" the other day and that episode is great the way the Purple Dragons never see the turtles.

X 03-31-2007 11:26 PM

Past two episodes of FF haven't blurted the word, its ninja time, at all. Oh and todays episode was at night. :)

Buslady 03-31-2007 11:34 PM

Easy:
  • No Cody, Serling
  • Keep their NORMAL weapons
  • Altho they are okay to walk out in broad day light, i think they'd feel a bit exposed. They ain't used to it, hide them in coats like before in the olden days.
  • Original Art, animation style
  • Keep the maturity they all gained in the first 4 seasons
  • Raph does NOT yell Mikey-isms like ninja time
  • better baddies that dont look do dorky. whats with tiny heads and gigantic bodies????
They could have done alot better with FF, they just went the cheap route with what they made. It's just crap.

VaughnMichael 04-01-2007 12:32 AM

I've just got one thing to say about what could have made FF better.
The Future Shark Trilogy.
EDIT:Ok I'm a liar 2 things!
I'd have liked it more if the future turtles (whom we've yet to even see) brought the guys to the future instead of Codey I think fans would have enjoyed that more.

Tinuvielsdreams 04-01-2007 11:21 AM

oh that would be cool...course it would be really hard not to find out things about their lives... but yeah I would have liked to see that angle.
If I never heard Ninja time again I'd be a happy fan...
The art and Animation is my other big gripe probably, man I miss the awesome dark shadows and the whole darker mood in general

CJStyles 04-02-2007 07:03 PM

Things that would make FF better would be if it would have been thrown in a trash bin and never put on television!

Yup, that about sums up the list.

Actually Cody can be okay when they keep him in a supporting role (like April) and quit trying to make him the fifth Turtle.

And NO CONSTABLE BIGGLES!:x Can't believe no one's mentioned him yet.

The show needs better villains. I really don't like any of them so far. Darius and Viral are okay, and Tripple Threat is mildly amusing. But Jammerhead, the Inuwashi Gungin, and Shokonabo really bore me.

I still don't trust Bishop. He's up to something and we need to know what since he's the only good villain FF has.

Stephen 04-05-2007 02:54 PM

Technically, Cody should look a lot older than he is. Since they say that kids are maturing a lot earlier and this is 100 yrs in the future .....

The ninja time thing kinda bugs me too. They could always bring back "Fight with honor." but that will always be a Leonardo line.

The only character that really, really bugs me is Starlie...or however we spell that. It's not her personality exactly, I think it's the name that bothers me. It's like admitting lack of originality.

I don't particularly dislike FF, but I can understand why people do. It was such a drastic, and abrupt change. It's also a step down from what they had. I don't think it was a bad idea, even if it is a very cliche idea, but the timing for it was all wrong.

Still, I think the characters are acting somewhat true to the concept. Someone mentioned maturity levels, but take into consideration that these four teenage boys have never had this kind of freedom. Considering that, I think maybe they adapted too well, and behave themselves a little too much. FF seems a bit toned down, and Care Bear to me. I can't help but wonder if it's the same violence issue they ran into with the first movie. 2k3 (what I've managed to see of it) could be a bit much to handle for really young viewers, and I strongly suspect that to be the reason for the abrupt change. I think the best way to improve not just the series, but the whole damn planet, would be to have it somehow teach parents to be parents, and make them realize they are responsible for their kids. The television is not.

Yes, that was wonderful. They need to do more of that. Actually, they needed to do more of that in the previous seasons, too. Ah well.

So here's to more stealth.

Things that could make >> better? Hmm... Sterilization might work.

Fast forward seems like a last ditch attempt to cash in on the original cartoon's audience.

There gonna remind you of TMNT'S past
Before Fast Forward screwed up it's ass
They'd rather have Ch'rell The Utrom
Hurl a katana sword at Leo
They'd rather see some reencactments
of old age stuff like Savanti Romero
There the angriest crowds you've ever heard
There the biased new series Nerds
There the biased original, MIRAGE Nerds
There the biased TMNT Nerds

Fast Forward? More like FAST FORWARD THROUGH THIS MOTHERF*CKING PEICE OF DOG S*IT, I'D RATHER PLOUGH A TECHNODROME THROUGH CODY JONE'S YEST INFECTED BACKNIE THAN WATCH THIS SHOW.

Revan 04-21-2007 12:16 AM

you are an artist. I must say I love your remake.

Chris 04-21-2007 01:15 AM

My take on FF would probably have been darker than the 2k3 show, taking it's inspiration from SAINW.

The TMNT, Splinter, April and Casey (no need for Cody, Serling, etc) are all pulled into the future by the Utrom Shredder. He rules this time as the TMNT were not there to stop him from conquering Earth once his allies freed him from his exile (his future self told him how to set it up).

The TMNT escape and join up with what limited underground resistance there is, the idea is they have to defeat Shredder and free the future and then get home in time to prevent this future from ever happening.

Sure it's the Shredder again but it's a plot that makes sense and they wouldn't have to fight him much, more his generals (which could be new characters like Sh'Okanabo, Viral, etc or completely re-imagined old characters with designs based on Bebop, Rocksteady, etc).

I wouldn't have the Dark Turtles as they are, I'd have one - with Leo's skill, Raph's power/aggression, Don's intelligence and Mike's natural athletic ability. Heck just for old times he could be called Slash but the name isn't really that important, but this would be a very serious threat to the TMNT, much more than the Dark Turtles have been so far.

That said I am enjoying FF as it currently is, and it does seem to be getting better (can't wait for today's episode!).

LiuKangChick 04-22-2007 03:37 PM

Three words: BRING BACK SHREDDER!!!! Fast Forward's just boring without him.

Shredder was already in a FF ep, and we don't need him as the main villain every single season.

Great, and after all this. They return to the present and... battle shredder... again...

I'm actually ok with shredder being banished. He will always be the greatest tmnt villian but it's enough already.

Chris 04-24-2007 03:48 PM

I actually wasn't thinking battle him all over again in the present, I was thinking they'd destoy him in the future then return to their own time and kill him again one last time to prevent that future.

I do agree Shredder has been used a lot, but I thought there was a lot of potential in the type of future shown by SAINW that could be exploited for a FF type show. So long as he's handled as he was in Season 1 (limited fights and a more serious threat with Shredder actually winning battles) I think it could be done well.

Of course the same type of thing could be done with someone new as well.

Warhorse 04-24-2007 07:10 PM

You know I was realizing last Saturday. Fast Forward has no regular female presence in it like all the other TMNT incarnations had.

Save for the occasional appearance of April, via flashbacks. But that really doesn't count.

Kind of sexist, isn't it.

That's why they created Starlee.

We just don't see her that much.

I agree, I noticed that too. Maybe they should have someone like Mona Lisa or something appear...

And Starlee doesn't count?

I realize she hasn't been in many episodes, but they did probably create her to have a female character in FF.

Revan 04-24-2007 10:36 PM

Starlee does not get much screen time and she is not really even necessary for FF. She just seems to be there as Cody's love interest perhaps to keep up the on screen romance like with April and Casey. hmmm Starlee thinks as Cody as her boyfriend. *cough* golddigger *cough*

Warhorse 04-25-2007 04:41 AM

I dont watch FF much. Starlee does not look familiar. Is she even a significant presence like April and Karai were? Is she as strong as a character as April and Karai are?

Kunoichi_Haruko 04-25-2007 05:00 AM

Nope. Not even close.

Revan 04-25-2007 08:37 AM

She is just kina, there. Her presence is un necessary to the plot.

At least Venus's backstory makes sense. There were entirely too many mutants in the OT. Lisa's mutation was rediculous

I like both Venus and Mona, but I agree, Venus' backstory is far better than Mona's.

I mean, Mona gets mutated into a salamander by nuclear submarine waste, but never at any point is a salamander shown to be present in the sub with her. Making you kind of wonder why it turned her into one.

Venus' history may have been weak, but it was more coherent than Mona's.

ninjitsu_magic_47 05-04-2007 07:36 PM

Well I guess, but I never really like Venus. But I do agree with the Mona Lisa story.
