Tattoo Query and Poll

Ok, so I know that I would like another tattoo. I would love a TMNT tattoo. Only problem is... I'm kinda... embarrassed? (Is that awful?)

Anyhow. I'm a girl (obviously) and I'm not sure what I could get that would be tasteful and... just tasteful and cool. And where would I put it?

I really thought about the shadows of them... or one of them. (Well, Don, duh.)

So, what do we all think?

Nightwatcher 03-27-2007 07:51 PM

I've really been looking into getting a Raphael tattoo. My friends look at me like I'm nuts and my sister just flat out tells me not to do it, but I don't really care what they say. My only problem is I can't find an animation I like enough.

I think the shadows is a pretty cool idea, especially if it's of Don because the Bo Staff would be easy to point out.

I don't really know where girls put a lot of tattoos except for lower back and top of feet so i don't know where you would want it.

Just look for an animation you want of a certain pose and once you find it then decide where to put it. If you are embarrased just put it somewhere that gets covered so only you may see Donatello whenever you want.

VaughnMichael 03-27-2007 07:52 PM

well it depends one what you like the most Me I'd personally get perhaps one good and one evil as the tatoo I'd personally use the old Foot & Turtle logos from the action figure line behind them.
Like maybe shredder vs. one of the turtles or splinter.
What are some things you really like though or had in mind it may help us all out :)

JetsAndHeels 03-27-2007 07:56 PM

Hey Jo Dawn, don't be embarrassed!! Tattoos are all about getting something that shows what you love or a part of you that is unique. I've got a superman one on the left arm and a star wars on the right. Talk about geeky, but hey its what I love right? :)

As far as where to get it (on the body), I would suggest somewhere that is concealed by clothing. You don't want it on a forearm or something like that. Usually on the back near a shoulder blade is a good spot, or maybe high up on your arm (unless you wear tank top shirts and stuff).

As far as what to get, perhaps you should just start with Don since he is your favorite. Get on search engines and look for as many different pics and designs of him as possible so you can have an idea of what you want done. Try to keep it small to medium sized, that way if you want to add to it later you will be able to.

The most important thing is that you get something you really, really love..remember its on your body for life!!

Jo Dawn 03-27-2007 07:57 PM

Well, I already have one on the top of my foot.

And I like Don, heh. Then Leo. I like all of them, really. Though the idea ofgood and evil is intriguing.

I wonder if they could do some kind of ying and yang type thing with that?

EDIT - And wise words, Jets. Wise words.

Leonardo_ 03-27-2007 07:58 PM

And i think it depends on how big or small it shall be.

I myself would NEVER want to get a tmnt tattoo. It is too embarrassing and too childrish in my eyes, but I only speak for myself. Everyone has to decide it for himself, of course.
I don't think that I could go swimming or having a sauna anymore, what I really love to do, if I would have a turtles tattoo.

JetsAndHeels wrote: "remember its on your body for life!!" - and this is why I would think about having a tmnt-tattoo very strictly first.

Roseangelo 03-27-2007 07:58 PM

I plan on getting a TMNT tattoo myself, eventually.

Dawnatello has one on her ankle. It's an original Mikey piece by GreenWillow (very cool).

I'd go for an original piece for myself and I'd probably put it behind my right shoulder. I don't wear clothes that would show it off very often, but I'd have the option to if I wanted.

Ballerninja 03-27-2007 08:07 PM

I'm planning on getting one eventually as well. I'm getting the new TMNT logo (from the beginning of the movie. Green letters, manhole cover in the background, surrounded by green fire (is that what it is? haha) ) with Leo's swords behind it and "Turtles Fight With Honour" below it. Probably in the centre of my back.

As others have said, it's just going to come down to finding something that appeals to you personally. If you don't want a cartoon on you, you can take the path I chose with the less-obvious logo. You could always get a canister of ooze, or if you want to be REALLY secretive, you could find the Japanese kanji for "Ninja Turtles". It would have to be from a source you trust beyond all measure though, haha.

I could draw a design for ya if you like Jo with the idea of a foot tmnt mixture.
just let me know.
Edit: yeah I plan to get one as well at some point I want to design them all myself of course most of my tattoos will be my art but I want to have tmnt and perhaps dr.teeth from the muppet show in the mix also :)

Ninjinister 03-27-2007 08:10 PM

A friend of mine got a (rather large) 2K3 Leo tattoo on her shoulder, and it's pretty awesome. It was actually based on an art by Tigerfog.

Baby, I would love to see anything you could come up with. That would be awesome.

EDIT - People! Keep with the ideas! I need all the opinions I can get! Thank you.

JetsAndHeels 03-27-2007 08:24 PM

Jo Dawn this probably isnt an idea youll like but here goes:

How about 2 bo staffs in the layout of an "X", and a small don tat in the middle.

Just a thought!!

Ra 03-27-2007 08:25 PM

I'm not one to really want to get tattoos, but if I ever got a TMNT one, it would be a small turtle logo like so -

http://www.affordablecharms.com/ProductImages/3090.gif

Not exactly the best thing I could find, but it was the closest to what I had in mind. I would probably get that on somewhere like my ankle or my wrist. Somewhere out of the way and people can't really notice it as much until you whip it out and scream at the top of your lungs "I'M A FAN OF THE TMNT! :tlol:".

And if you want something with Don, maybe get a bust of him? Maybe something like this?

http://www.ninjaturtles.com/gallery/...llo/don_07.jpg

But then again, it all depends of what style you want. 2k3? Old toon? Mirage? Original art? I'd be more than happy to sketch out a pose or idea if you want one.

rad do you want the lines to be thick on the outside like most tattoos are?
I'll do Don and some one else (who would you want shredder?) with a ying yang behind them but instead of the typical black and white I could perhaps do green or purple and the otherside be red & black for the foot.
What logos do you prefer? New or oldschool ones like on the old action figure box.
I always liked the "foot" for the footclan logo myself. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about but could give you examples if you like.

Jo Dawn 03-27-2007 08:28 PM

Ok, yeah... lemme say this: Not Old Toon. Other than that, I'm up for ideas. I mean, I love the new toon and movie art, actually. Mirage even works, too. Or even, like I said, shadows or some other sort of homage to them, in some sort.

EDIT - Putrescent: Hmmm... I'm up for suggestion, really.

how large do you want it? Ok I draw in a more mirage (peter laird) style than anything so that works :)
EDIT: works for me I'll get to sketchin' and I can do changes as asked.

Buslady 03-27-2007 10:51 PM

Get your favorite turtle down by the ankle area. I wanna do Raph down there...but hubby wont like it :( im too chicken as it is...hehe...chicken turtle..me..:P

Jo Dawn 03-27-2007 10:53 PM

I have a tat on my right foot... I wonder if the left ankle would be too much. Hmmmm...

Masked Ninja 03-28-2007 12:29 AM

I'm not a tattoo sort of person, but if I were, I'd probably go for a small action silohuette. And like Nightwatcher said, that would be a good route for Don because his weapon would be easy to pick out.

But that's just me. I think logos and tattoos look better with simpler designs. :)

Jade Green 03-28-2007 12:30 AM

Me, I've concidered getting a tmnt tattoo... two, actually, on te bottom of each heel. The turtle shell itself.

slkblaze 03-28-2007 05:18 AM

Hey Jo Dawn, I only have 1 tatt but I think I've picked the perfect spot for it, and I recommend this spot to anyone who wants a tattoo (that can stand quite a bit of pain). It's a thistle and it's on my right ribcage. That way I can wear backless dresses, tanktops, and short shirts without it ever showing.
Basically the only way people will see this tattoo is if I wear a bikini. As a girl, it's harder for us to decide where to place our tatts =/, but the ribs is a good spot although very painful. Also, another good spot that is concealable is below the panty-line on your front... it might be an intimate experience getting it done there, so make sure you're comfortable with your tatt artist ;-).

XERO 03-28-2007 09:09 AM

Get a tattoo of me.:P

Better yet, get a tat of the words 'Konami Krew.'

(I'll think of some real ideas later, heh.)

iris 03-28-2007 10:40 AM

I like Roseangelo's idea of putting it somewhere you won't see it constantly (yourself).

I have given this some mindless thought before. Figured I'd get a stylized character or glyph from a more obscure language... one that means "turtle." In a dark purple, perhaps? ;)

The mayan glyphs are kinda cool.

This one is called "turtle with bow"... :tsurpris:

AquaParade 03-28-2007 12:51 PM

Strange that this topic came up, I've been thinking about one myself. Anyone have any pics of theirs?

ajistheman 03-28-2007 02:41 PM

i'd say a nice spot for tatoos is the upper part of your arm, since it is hidden most of the time. But do you have a favorite quote by don that you could put with him? I'd think a picture of his face (I like the new toon's drawing of him the best) with your favorite quote would be good. In all honesty anything you have with Donatello will rule. I think he should have his own solo movie. I can imagine it now, Donatello: The Story of a Turtle.

slkblaze 03-28-2007 03:09 PM

That shows my tatt's placement, and then I give you a nice blurry close up :D!

Nice tats! :)

ajistheman 03-28-2007 03:54 PM

not to sound like a complete dummy, mrs. blaze, but what's your tatoo of?
i do like it, i just want to know what it is:)

Warhorse 03-28-2007 07:46 PM

Jo Dawn, I don't know about the other people on this thread, but I have a Raphael tatoo on my left back shoulderblade, of him in a jumping attack position. It's based mostly on the older cartoon look, but more gruffer, and I also have a sai, about 3 inches long, on my ankle, and I'm not embarrased about it at all.

If anything, it attracts a lot of guys, and when you are at a party, it's a great topic to break the silence. If you see yourself being a Donetello fan for life, go ahead and show it to the world. Donny deserves your support!:)

slkblaze 03-28-2007 08:35 PM

Haha, that's ok =).
It's a thistle, but the leaves around it are celtic knotwork.

TheAnimatedSeries 03-28-2007 11:50 PM

I'm not going to get into it, but unless you get a tat of a popculture icon, a design you came up with or a meaningful phrase or image that you DID NOT FIND IN A TATTOO BOOK then I dont support it. I've argued about this for years to people who think its wack to get a band logo, a Predator or anything that is awesome, but find it acceptable to look through pics of other peoples tats and steal them, slap on some tribal or a chinese character they just saw.

I dont know why someone would tell you not to get a tattoo of Raphael. Hes cool. Girls get tats of butterflies all the time and butterflies suck.

I would marry a fat girl if she had a Batman on her arm.

Tinuvielsdreams 03-29-2007 07:07 AM

Man I wish some of us live close together Jo Dawn because I would go and get one too! It is so funny this thread came up and other people have said this but I really would like to design some sort of TMNT tat for myself... If I were ever to do anything that wasn't my own creation it would have to be TMNT. Make sure the tattoo artist is a fan too...lol

Rockzero 03-29-2007 09:51 AM

Hm. Maybe you could get like a Chibi-ized Mirage Don? That way you get both the cute and cool aspects, and you can probably pull it off.

I dunno, just throwing something out there.

discordiatookie 03-29-2007 04:11 PM

I fancy getting a turtle tattoo myself, but the only thing I would go for would be a shell type one. I dunno what it is, I just don't like cartoony type tattoos. I've only got the one tattoo just now (right arm, just below shoulder, cherub with a scroll and the word 'libertine' written though it) and I pretty much know what else i'm wanting, and where about they will be on my body (rolling stones tongue on my chest, left side quite high up, lion rampant holding scotland flag on my left arm below shoulder, red eye of the king sigul (from dark tower) on the inside of my right arm (above elbow though) and a turtle shell in the same place on my left arm.) Sure that's quite a few, but this is what I really want! Obviously it'll take a few years for me to save up for them and whatnot too...

So my suggestion: a turtle shell (like the one on the back of the Challenges book)

And as for placements on a female: I personally think that on the shoulder or arms on a female looks quite butch. No offence to anyone, these are just my views. In saying this though, if I ever met a girl with a TMNT tat ANYWHERE, i'd probably be in love... The shoulder blade looks hot though, as does base of the back, foot, breast, hip and ribs (where slkblaze's is.) I know a chick with a surfergal on the ribs, and it is awesome! And slkblaze? A thistle? You scottish? scottish blood? that's an awesome tat, being Scotland's flower and all...

slkblaze 03-29-2007 04:50 PM

Yea, I'm mainly Irish but I do have a lot of Scottish blood. Also, I grew up in Scotland and some of the best memories of my life are from there. I designed my tatt and I'm really happy with how it turned out.

I want to get another one (they're so addicting!), I was thinking about coming up with some design inspired by the Merlion of Singapore (another country I grew up in). Until I get the money or a design that I'm 100% happy with, it'll just have to wait.

How many tattoos will you have in total when you're all done tookie?

1984TMNT 03-29-2007 06:07 PM

Jo, I would definitely not do a shadow...if you are gonna go for it, go for it. The Turtles green plus the color of the bandanna would look amazing on your skin, and allow people to recognize it instantly (which is the point right? do you really want to have to explain what that shadow is...? "um..., duh, It's Donatello from TMNT, don't you see it??").

My suggestion would be to put something small to medium sized on your lower back. For me, this is always the classiest, and most attractive place for women to have tattoos. I would probably stick to a full body design, as I think it would look more like something that jumped off the page of a comic/movie, etc. as opposed to just a bust....just my opinion. And I would also keep it simple....I don't think that having TMNT or any words are necessary if you just have an awesome looking turtle right there, staring everyone down who is trying to cop a look :) You can always add words later if you feel the need

Ahhh yes, as blaze pointed out, beneath the panty line is also a great place for a tattoo. And in all honesty, I would probably marry the girl who had one there on the spot. I mean cmon, I have probably dreamed of that happening more times than I can count.... :)

slkblaze 03-29-2007 06:25 PM

As a personal preference, any tattoo I will get will only be in black ink.
I think they look nicer for longer... but that might also coincide with the fact that if I draw anything I never use color. Haha, now I sound boring.

1984TMNT 03-29-2007 06:28 PM

found a TMNT Raphael tattoo example:

http://www.tattooartists.org/Image.a...apheal_002.jpg

umm, Blaze....you could pretty much tattoo anything to your body and it would look good....just sayin ;)

dripgutz24 03-29-2007 06:38 PM

I love this thread I think it great because both my right and left arms are all tattoo'd (sleeve's), I'm just addicted to tattoo's once you get one there's always a point in your life where you'll want another one, and oh yeah I also have dice on my neck which means life's a game and you have to know how to play the game.

I agree with that completely. Black works better to create the idea that this image is a mark on your body. Most color tats I see look like horrible colored pencil drawings. The colors always end up looking too dull.
