scratch?

who was this character? and why is his action figure so valueable?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=16474

i mean...GOOD LORD!!!

Karpo_007 01-27-2003 03:14 AM

Never seen him in the show. If he was I don't remember it.

Wingnut 01-27-2003 07:13 AM

He was one of those 'one time mutants',the reason his fig is so valuble, well its because so few were produced and even fewer were shipped(hes a borderline chase fig)

Cherubae 01-27-2003 07:14 AM

Scratch was never on the show but the action figure is one of the rarest in the Turtle's line. The 2nd rarest, from what I understand it as, is Hot Spot, a dalmation dog fireman. Then after that you'll find Warrior Winged Don and Leo, the Shogun series (Shoate, Shredder, etc), and the Forgotten Sewer series.

I picked up an out-of-package Hot Spot at the local Goodwill for 50 cents ;)

xZAOx 01-27-2003 07:32 AM

someone should tell those people, rare or not, that they are also the lamest action figures in the line ;-)

TMNTGal 01-27-2003 02:21 PM

The only appearance of Scratch I can think of was in the GameBoy game TMNT 3: Radical Rescue.

I gave my loose Scratch a ball and chain accessory that came with Killer Bee. It suit's the figure well. I also bought a little black cage thing to use as a Jail Cell. :) Scratch's buddy is a Jail Bird, heheheh...

Despite what most ppl will tell you Hot Spot isn't a rare figure. It shouldn't be condidered rare in my opinion. I see that figure carded all the time.

That Matt Guy 01-27-2003 02:30 PM

People are paying insane prices for plastic toys. :o Look at this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=16474

Kali 01-27-2003 02:33 PM

:o At least that one had a decent starting price.

Actually, Shogun Shoate is rarer then Hot Spot, & I've heard that Shogun Triceraton is even rarer then those two. I always thought Scratch was thee hardest figure to locate, but apparently these other figures are much harder to find.

As for the Warriors of the Forgotten Sewers figures, they aren't really that rare. The series that had Metalhead Mike, Winged Warrior Don & Leo, Furry Razhar, THOSE are hard to find. I see Dwarf Don's up for acution on eBay more frequently then a MOC Metalhead Mike for example.

I just want to get that Gatekeeper Rocksteady figure, because it's another one of the rocksteady figures they made that you could pass off as being another mutant Rhino. Look at this picture of him (the grey rhinoman next to the guy in the red outfit):

http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Zone/2817/wotfs.jpg

Now, compare that figure, to the original Rocksteady:

http://www.ninjaturtles.com/toys/1988/rocksteady.jpg

That gatekeeper Rocksteady could easily pass for another mutant rhino. Completely differen body design for strarters, like Gatekeeper Rocksteady's horns are more pointed then the normal Rocksteady. Also, he has large rhino-like feet instead of small feet that could fit inside combat boots. I mean how could Rocksteady, if he had big feet like that other figure did, fit them inside those tiny little boots? :-?

I really want to find that guy, then he can be another bad guy for my Foot people as they really got shafted when it came to unique troops. I mean, twords the end we get Scratch & Shogun Shoate and then Playmates goes & makes 'em rare as anything. If I could just get Shoate I'd be a happy camper (I pretty much know I'll never get Scratch unless they re-release him, *hint* *hint* Playmates).

Oh, getting back to the topic at hand...:D
Scratch & Shogun Triceraton are the most expensive figures around, with Shogun Shoate coming in 2nd, followed by Hot Spot at 3rd. I see Hot Spot MOC all the time same with Shoate but they always get too rich for my blood on eBay.

Oh, here's an intresting thingy. Here's a picture of Shogun Shoate:

http://www.ninjaturtles.com/toys/1994/shoshoate.jpg

...and here's a picture from the cover of TMNT #47 with the character "Chote":

http://www.ninjaturtles.com/comics/m...47/47cover.jpg

Wonder why they changed the character's name around? Hey, since he was in the original comic book, do yo uguys think there's a chance they'll make a newer figure of him somewhere down the line? I hope so, that'd be awesome!

-Snailman

xZAOx 01-27-2003 09:15 PM

i never noticed that similarity! if it wasnt such a damn expensive figure, i wouldnt mind having him. i enjoyed that comic. hehe, i bought the elite guard figure just b/c he was in the original comics =)

OrokuSaki's#1Fan 01-27-2003 11:48 PM

I myself have never seen Shoate,Hot Spot,Sandstorm,OR Stractch, and I had about 85% of Playmates Turtles line. :tcry:

raphael90 01-28-2003 12:11 AM

scratch

I agree it is TERRIBLY ridiculous to spend that much money on an action figure. I mean how much do you think it cost Playmates to churn one out?
Surely much less than the average Turtle went for in the store...I remember they were like $4 apeice MOC when I collected them.

I remember when my sis collected Ty Beanie babies...man, you had to go to special little stores and malls to find those (at least where I lived). I remeber there was this one of the first figures, an elephant, who had the wrong colors on his design. It was worth $5000 because it was rare and discontinued...that always got a laugh out of me.

OrokuSaki's#1Fan 01-28-2003 10:58 AM

yeah, overpricing can get pretty ridiculous at times!

OrokuSaki's#1Fan 01-28-2003 11:01 AM

{Sorry- I should've put this in my last post}
Playmates probably changed Chote's name to have it sound more like "Shogun Chote"{Sho-ate}. I'm not sure,though-just a guess! He is a cool character, though.

Same here. The LAST TMNT figures I got was Halfcourt the mutant basketball Giraffe & Hothead on a different card then when he was originally released. He came out with the rest of the new character 5th Adniversary figures (Doctor El, King Lionheart, Merdude,Scale Tail, Antrax & Monty Moose). I guess I got a later edition of him since he's on a newer card.

Getting back, I saw Sandstorm on the back of the card, as well as Hot Spot, but never actually saw them in the stores. Only recently did I finally snag Sandstorm MOC on eBay for like 15 bucks, which wasn't a bad deal. If I can get Hot Spot for a decent price ($20 bucks MOC or so) on eBay I'd be happy. Shoate & Scratch I only saw through eBay, & since I don't have the backings for my Halfcourt figure I can't be sure if Scratch was listed or not.

::nods:; Yep, $3.99 was the average going price for a TMNT figure back in the day. Deluxe ones might've went for more then that, like $5.99 or something. KB toys, who was always more expensive then TRU back then, charged $5.99 a pop for 'em.

Maybe, it sounds like a plausable explanation. The character seems very cool, & is one of the older figures that I want the most. Namely just because it's one of the few bad guys that came out at the end of the line & is easier to get then Scratch (not to mention cheaper).

What is he anyways? A mutant dinosaur or something? I saw Savanti Romero with him in those 2 issues of the comic book, & since Savanti was trapped in the dinosaur time period, maybe Chote's a mutated dinosaur? :-?
He does look a little bit like a T-Rex....

OrokuSaki's#1Fan 01-28-2003 03:35 PM

Not sure. He is "T-Rex" like. :-?

Eye of Sarnath 01-28-2003 03:40 PM

I thought Scratch was in one episode, though I'm not to sure, I'll have to check that out. :-?

OrokuSaki's#1Fan 01-28-2003 04:40 PM

According to his card-backing from www.ninjaturtles.com[/url],Shoate is a reptillain lizard. Hope this helps! :tgrin:

Wingnut 01-28-2003 08:12 PM

In order of rarity
1.Shogun Triceraton (try to find it MOC and NOT pay over 100$ for it,i dare ya)
2.Scratch
3.Shogun Shoate
4.Hot Spot

xZAOx 01-28-2003 08:19 PM

shogun triceraton and shogun shoate would be nice figs to have. but im not paying more than like $10 for it. and i'd still feel bad paying that for it. so my chances of getting them range from ZERO on one end, to NONE on the other.

OrokuSaki's#1Fan 01-28-2003 08:29 PM

Yeah,me too{unfortunately}. Shoate would make a fine addition to my TMNT collection! :tgrin:

::nods:: That he is. The tech-specs on him that I read off ninjaturtles.com really didn't give him much of an origin. Come to think of it, all of the later-released mutant animal figures didn't get much of an origin tech spec wise. They basically just rambled on for a paragraph or two talking about their "wacky weapons" & such.

Checked it out, didn't help alot, but thats the fault of Playmates, not you. :D
I wish someone had a loose version of the figure with all it's weapons so we could see what it looks like. All I know is, that as soon as I get Shoate one day in the future, he's bein' taken right out of his package & played with just like my other TMNT guys!

Oh, & Shoate would make a fine addition to anybodies TMNT collection since he's one of the 2 other bad guy characters made towards the end of the normal figure line.

Hell, at this point I'd be happy to get Hot Spot- at least I'd have some body to team up with Hose'em Down Don. :D

I'd say that list is fairly accurate. Personally, I only want the last 3 figures, Shogun Triceraton I couldn't care less about- it's basically just a variant of the original character in my eyes & I already own Triceraton. Scratch, Shoate, & Hot Spot however are all new individual characters that I'd like to have fighting on the turtles & foot sides.

I just hope we get some cool, kick-ass mutant animals/aliens/robots in the new toyline- none of this 80 human figures & 2 mutant figure crap.

Playmates, if your reading this: Listen to Peter Laird's toy ideas; the man knows what he's talkin' about!

-Snailman

Mondo_Gecko 01-29-2003 01:12 PM

YES We need more mutant toys

OrokuSaki's#1Fan 01-29-2003 03:54 PM

Yeah,Laird has some pretty neat ideas! :)

OrokuSaki's#1Fan 01-29-2003 03:54 PM

and yeah-MORE MUTANTS Playmates! :tgrin:

Mondo_Gecko 01-29-2003 07:05 PM

Like the old series, we need more mutants

Karpo_007 01-29-2003 09:13 PM

Well Playmates did release many toys of characters that weren't in the show, so everything is possible.

OrokuSaki's#1Fan 01-30-2003 01:27 AM

true.

Snailman 01-30-2003 01:40 AM

Very true Karpo. Like 75% of the figures made in the toyline never had appearences on the cartoon show, & the toyline lasted like that for 5 years, so it's a good posibility that they will do so again.

Playmates should know from past experiences that mutant animals/robots/aliens & ninja toys sell well within this toyline.

OrokuSaki's#1Fan: Yeah, Laird does have alot of neat ideas. I particularly like the snailman guy he drew (if my name isn't obvious enough).

OrokuSaki's#1Fan 01-30-2003 02:39 AM

:lol: Yeah,I noticied that! The Bulldog Football player looks neat,too.{and let's not forget that unreleased Shredder playset! :) }

Bulldog Football Player? :-? I know he drew a Cyborg Lynx Football player guy on the same page as the Snailman (whom I could see being more of an alien, then a mutant snail) guy.

Yeah, that shredder playset looked pretty cool, I would have liked to have seen how it moved & such. The Sewer Scraper looked promising as well, he really put alot of thought into these, it sucks Playmates gave him a thumbs down on 'em.

-Snailman

OrokuSaki's#1Fan 01-30-2003 01:24 PM

:goofygri: OOops! That IS a lynx! Sorry,I hadnt looked at it in a while. :tsad: Yeah, hopefully Playmates considers some of Laird's ideas this time around. :)

OrokuSaki's#1Fan 01-31-2003 12:24 AM

I wonder if Kevin Eastman has any figure ideas that didn't get produced?
:-?

Karpo_007 01-31-2003 02:48 AM

Well Eastman is no longer involved with the turtles, So he doesn't run a web page of his sketches like Laird does...

::nods:: The drawing with the Lynx/Cyborg/Football Player is just a pencil sketch, so it really isn't that sharp like some of the inked drawings on the site. I'd be cool if he touched it up & posted it all inked. :D

Karpo pretty much answered this one, but I'm not sure if Kevin even did any concept toy sketches. If he did, like Karpo said, he doesn't run a webpage like Laird does so most likely we'll never see them.

It is interesting to note, that TMNT was the only toyline to never make figures. Like, some toylines make prototypes & even show them at Toy Fair, only to never actually make them. As far as I know, every idea Playmates made into a prototype figure, got mass produced in the line. Like, there aren't any catalogs out there with 5 or 6 different mutant animal characters that weren't made due to high production costs or something.

Peter Laird made up lots of ideas for characters & vehicles in the new line, but I have no idea how many of his were actually used & made un-changed. The "unknown" creature figure he drew became Mutagen Man, & Fugitoid was made as a figure, but not at all like the drawing he did of it.

If there ARE, they there are one of the best kept secrets of Playmates original TMNT line.

OrokuSaki's#1Fan 01-31-2003 06:16 PM

Thanks for the help, guys! I have a question, though:How long has Eastman NOT been involved with the TMNT,and why isn't he anymore? :-?
If anyone knows,I'd appreciate your help! Thanks! :)

Kevin hasn't been involved for a couple years. He sold/Peter bought his share because Kevin was busy with several other non-TMNT projects like Heavy Metal magazine. Plus I think they live on opposite sides of the country now.

OrokuSaki's#1Fan 01-31-2003 11:00 PM

That sucks. :( Oh well. thanks again,Kali!

Karpo_007 02-02-2003 08:56 AM

Yeah it was the distance and the fact that Eastman is busy doing Heavy Metal. I also heard that Next Mutation and some other things caused some arguments...

Ma sono scemi?! :o (They are crazy)

In Italy for a action figures 1988 series a collector man would pay like 200 Euro (like 200 $)... but 287 $ are too for that figure!

However i don't know who is the misterious figure. Did you try to see it in the official web site at the voice Toys?
