Music From The Original Series

OK Guys and Gals, here's a tough one... we all know and love the classic theme song from the show (those who don't love it... well... I got nothing to say to you) and know there are many ways of obtaining it (I for one got my copy of it after buying the Toon Tunes: Action-Packed Anthems CD... yes, it's the real version, not some third-rate crappy kiddy's redo). Some may not know though that the song and all the background music (equally as good as the main theme song as I hope you'll all agree... classic late 80's / early
90's stuff here) for the show was written by Mr. Dennis Challen ("D.C.") Brown and Mr. Chuck Lorre (a very big producer now, behind shows such as Roseanne, Cybill, Grace Under Fire, Dharma & Greg and Two and a Half Men - which he pretty much created). Now for my point... or question... or challenge even... does anybody know of any releases of said background music (lots of shows back then released show's scores on record... at least in Europe - for example I've tracked down the background music of another show many of you would be aware of - "Inspector Gadget" - composed by Shuki Levy) or ways to contact the composers maybe. I've scoured the internet but am unable to find anything as yet. I just feel that for those who loved the show, surely you agree that the scoring of the show played a vital role in the overall feel of it. So, I donno... I'm just putting it out there. If anyone's got any ideas on how to obtain the music then great, let's hear 'em. Let's bring the background music into the foreground (man, that was tacky). I'll end it on something beter... let's show the composers the respect and gratitude they deserve for their role in this show we all remember so fondly. Thanks for your time, everybody.

I'd LOVE to have a CD containing all the background music from the original toon. I'd also curious to know which seasons some of the music was introduced in and which ones others were dropped. Season 4 introduced a few while a lot of the music from season 1 was eventually dropped in 2 and gone by 3.
Season 6 introduced a lot as well, I think.

CyberCubed 05-25-2007 09:59 AM

I also loved all the BGM in the old toon, it really had some excellent tracks. I still love them.

ToTheNines 05-25-2007 06:55 PM

I would kill for OT background toons. I'd be willing to pay top dollar for a CD.

Spitfire 05-25-2007 07:17 PM

I tried ripping it. It's a lost cause. All the sound is in mono and not stereo. I don't know if a program exists that can let you rip it. The only way I'd see it being possible is one that lets you mute certain pitches in the sound thus allowing you to maybe mute everything but the music. But that's a long shot.

Believe me I tried I needed it for the anime dub I was working on.

Yeah, I totally agree with you. A CD of all the OT music would be great.

Raven 05-25-2007 10:30 PM

the orginal toon music? That would be kick ass to have on CD!

Really is there anything else to say other then it would be really cool to have?

Krang 05-26-2007 04:17 AM

I've also been interested in any sort of soundtrack containing BGM from the original cartoon, but unfortunately, none exist that I know of. I'm not sure who owns the rights to that music, but it wouldn't hurt to ask them how likely it would be that they would release a CD.

fearsome_fighting_team 05-26-2007 07:48 AM

Well, the publisher (according to the BMI site) who owns the music is Maico Music Co... the site also gave me this:

Maico Music Co
Phone: (213) 938-5000
Contact: MARTIN COHEN, ADMINISTRATOR
C/O MURAKAMI WOLF SWENSON INC.
740 LA BREA AVENUE
LOS ANGELES, CA 90038-3339

I'm Australian so... if anyone here's from LA and knows of La Brea Avenue...
... I might also add that though she wasn't part of the writing of the theme song, Maxine Tait worked with Brown and Lorre (though I'm not certain how long Lorre worked on the background music... I think Mr. Brown had a bigger part in this but I'm not sure) on the background music. Anyway... I'll keep digging.

magidkaiser 05-27-2007 03:45 AM

old tmnt bgm :tgrin: :tgrin: !!!!!!!!!!!!!

man u can't imagine how much i love it !! when i found this big forum i thought i will find all the bgm !! but sadly even this big tmnt fan site and forum don't have any!

a big problem !!

fearsome_fighting_team 06-02-2007 06:21 PM

Okay so if no one has found any contact information for the composers and no one's wandered passed La Brea Avenue in LA and called in, I've found some contact info for Lions Gate (the guys releasing the DVDs):

Lions Gate Entertainment Inc.
2700 Colorado Ave.
Santa Monica, CA 90401
E-Mail: [email protected]

So with 'Lord Krang's' and 'da Boss's' permission, maybe I write them a nice formal e-mail requesting the chance to gain access to the music that a few of us on The Technodrome Forums would be very interested in, even if it meant purchasing them... (I donno how successful this'll all be, everything considered). So I donno, I'll wait from a reply from Krang and Shredder with their blessing to mention the forums and then I'll give it a shot.

Krang 06-03-2007 05:15 AM

Thanks for posting the info about the music, fearsome_fighting_team! Prior to this thread, I had heard very little about who was responsible for the music in the original cartoon, so the info is much appreciated. And sure, you're definitely welcome to mention these forums in your email.

fearsome_fighting_team 06-03-2007 06:14 AM

Thank you sir, I'll start writing the e-mail. Hopefully I'll get a reply. I'll keep you all posted.

SassyGal 06-03-2007 09:48 AM

yay! I love the orginal music. it so brings back childhood memories :D

jenna 06-03-2007 09:52 AM

My sister wants to have the OT music at her wedding. No joke. She's more theatrical than I am and thinks it would be really dramatic and a good laugh.

I'd love to see it happen:

"You may now kiss the bride..."

"Teenage mutant ninja turtles....."

That is awesome!!!!

themaxonline 06-03-2007 10:39 AM

I'd have the technodrome theme music at my funeral. LOL! On repeat!

SassyGal 06-03-2007 11:04 AM

In Da 'Drome at mine, all the way baby!!

Scandia 06-03-2007 04:49 PM

On my trip to NYC this weekend, I saw the intersection of Broadway with 43rd...aka where Channel 6 would stand! Needless to say, I was singing April's theme from the OT!

RAM BAM 06-06-2007 06:33 PM

I don't see why they don't release the original soundtrack.
GNP Crescendo released the original background/incidental
music for the original Star Trek series on CD a few years back.

Niche marketing is where it's at!!! :)

I actually did downlaod most of that one. I was disappointed it didn't have the sinister sounding sneaky music and an arrangement of the theme they played in Gadget goes west (the one with sinister sounding organ riffs).

I would like some of the background music myself, but honestly, I would love a cd catalouging the Shuki Levy Haim Saban Dic background music (especially Heathcliff, more Gadget, and Super Mario Super Show).

General Traag 07-17-2007 07:54 AM

OT 'Soundtrack'?

I loved the background and scene music from the old toon, is there any way to get my hands on it?
I found the technodrome-synthy ('pheeeeeuuuuooooooowwwww') on the drome site, but that's it.
I especially would love to have the jazzy krang-music, there's only the videogame-adaption of it on here (and nes-tunes just don't deliver the feeling :p ).

ToTheNines 07-17-2007 10:27 AM

Those tracks have to be laying around somewhere in the world, but I have no idea who has the rights to them. I dont think anyone could make their own unless there is someway to phase out voices and other sound effects.

General Traag 07-17-2007 10:40 AM

That's actually what i expected, they made 200 toys but no cd of the (pretty good) music. :s
And yeah, ripping it out of the scenes is pretty much impossible.

Now i wonder though where the soundfile of the main drome page is from?
It's longer then any 'no-voice'-scene in the toon could have been, so i doubt it's been taken directly from there.

themaxonline 07-17-2007 11:53 PM

I think the sound may have come from one of the episodes in season 3. Probably one of the ones where Krang's voice was done by the other guy. Maybe the one with the love potion stuff, probably? I forget now but I remember at least once where there was the technodrome theme playing without dialogue for quite a while.

gobo 07-18-2007 12:34 AM

Are you referring to Drome In Motion? I think it's safe to assume that was a remake. It doesn't sound exactly like anything I remember from the show. Different instrument, I believe.

Krang 07-18-2007 03:39 AM

We had a thread from a while back with some info on who is responsible for the music from the classic cartoon, so I merged it into this one.

Vegita-San extracted it from parts of different episodes and merged them together. If he sees this, he'll probably be able to tell you which ones.

You're right, that one was an original composition.

General Traag 07-19-2007 07:43 AM

Ah, cool that my lord, didn't find it. =]

So what happened to the 'fearsome_fighting_team' and the e-mail?
I guess i gotta send him a pm sometime.

twigs232 07-19-2007 02:21 PM

I wished I had all the background music from all the shows and the video games. It would be truly awesome lol

Alas, I've received no reply from the guys I sent the e-mail to (namely Lions Gate who are releasing the DVDs so surely they have the rights to the music?!) I don't really know what else to do... maybe some of you guys could try writing/e-mailing and then they'll realise that there are people who do want it. The contact info. again is:

Lions Gate Entertainment Inc.
2700 Colorado Ave.
Santa Monica, CA 90401
E-Mail: [email protected]

Also (as I've stated before) there's these guys:

Maico Music Co
Phone: (213) 938-5000
Contact: MARTIN COHEN, ADMINISTRATOR
C/O MURAKAMI WOLF SWENSON INC.
740 LA BREA AVENUE
LOS ANGELES, CA 90038-3339

Note well my sons (and daughters) Murakami Wolf... their logo if I'm not mistaken appears at the end of the credits of the original series... so these guys should be contacted too. And again I'll ask if anyone here's from LA and near La Brea Avenue maybe you could pop on in. Ummm, what else did I come across... oh yeah, just that the writers of the music (and I quote my earlier post) were "Mr. Dennis Challen ("D.C.") Brown and Mr. Chuck Lorre (a very big producer now, behind shows such as Roseanne, Cybill, Grace Under Fire, Dharma & Greg and Two and a Half Men - which he pretty much created)" and Maxine Tait also worked on the music a little later on.
So if you can find contact info for any of those three names we might have something there... I've looked and I couldn't find anything. So that's what's happening... phew.

General Traag 08-05-2007 12:29 PM

Ah cool, too bad they didn't write back. I will drop them a line too i think.

TheUltimateShredhead 08-08-2007 02:40 PM

A cd with all the background music from the OT series would be awesome:D !

Half the fun with the series was the background music.

ToTheNines 08-08-2007 02:47 PM

The 2k3 show has had some great music too, alot of it only gets used once. It would be cool if we got both.

LuK4sz 07-11-2014 04:49 AM

What synthesizers was used in the soundtracks?
Roland D-50 sound familiar :tcool:
