Collected Books Confusion
I looked around past threads for some info on this and didn't find any, but I'm really half asleep right now, so I might have missed something...At any rate, I hope I'm not repeating a thread needlessly.
I'm just beginning to accumulate the Mirage comics (I was a fan and collector of the Archie comics as a kid, but for some reason am only just now getting into the Mirage stuff), and I'm trying to get collected books as much as I can. From what I can tell, there are seven collected books for Volume One, right? But there are more issues than that in Vol. One. Am I missing something? Will the rest of Vol. One ever be collected? Are there collected books for the later and current volumes? It's just so much easier when I don't have to track them down issue by issue.... Lol. I've examined the Comics section of ninjaturtles.com in the hopes of sorting it out, but somehow that confused me more.... |

No more issues from Vol. 1 have been collected into books. Quote:

There is an old book that collects the seven issues of Tales Vol. 1, but it's a bit hard to find and usually expensive if you do find it. The good news is that this book will be reprinted this Fall. Otherwise the only other collected books are the recent ones that are collecting Tales Vol. 2. |
Are you interested in collecting everything Avalon, or just what is considered canon? If you just want the core Turtles story, then there's a large amount of Vol.1 you can probably overlook in your back issue searches, and most of what is considered continuity these days is collected in those seven books (though there are a couple of stories that I think are now considered out of continuity).
It's my understanding that the first few major story lines will be collected and relettered possibly retoned (but don't quote me) by Pete at some point in the future. However if you're after any stories from Vol. 1 then you will have to pick up individual issues (outside of Soul's Winter). Hope this helps! By the by, don't forget to pick up Tales of the TMNT #36! It ties into the Pete and Kevin's epic finale to Vol.1 and should be out this coming week, or the week following (either way, it will be out before I hit San Diego)! |
Awesome, thanks for the info! Rose, you manage to put everything so clearly... :) And thanks for the explanation, Tristan. I'm not terribly concerned at this point with what's canon and what's not, I'm just always itching for more TMNT to read. So it looks like I'll be searching out individual issues!
|
Yeah, from my experience individual issues are probably your best bet. I managed to get volumes 2-5 of the trades at the official website, but as far as the stuff that covers issues 1-11, the individual issues may be the best way to go until Laird finally goes George Lucas on those issues for a trade. I've tried getting collected book Vol. 1 on eBay before, but it's pretty tough and can get probably more expensive than the book is worth.

All About Volume 1 Collected Books
I bought a lot of Collected books a year ago. Some have jumped in "value" already.
I own 2 copies of Vol. 1 First Printings. Paid $45 a pop for both (once on Milehighcomics - they don't carry it currently) and another time on Ebay ( got lucky the seller didn't know exactly how to title the Ebay sale, it sat in never never land 'till I found it). http://www.ninjaturtles.com/comics/books/volone1998.jpg I believe the First Printings are worth at least $100 each at this point. They are pretty rare. The collected Tales Vol. 1 , I won for $20 on ebay. I have a second printing of Vol 1., when April w/ afro is climbing up the sewer, and I won that for only $10 a year ago, but now it's going for $40-50. (I would'nt pay that much personally for the 2nd printing.) You can find most of the other Volumes, 2,3,4,5 on http://www.ninjaturtles.com/order/catgn.htm , in Mint condition for a lot less than you get on ebay (unless you get lucky, once I found a person selling all 6 (2,3,4,5,6,7) at a combined $25 buy it now, that was a quick sale :D If you are looking for the Collected Books Ebay is really the best place. Just stay active and eventually you will steal a bid, or find someone selling them that doesn't know what they are actually selling. What I really want to find someday at a flea market or an old book store is the Hardcover Vol. 1 #1, only a 1,000 copies of that in the world. Never seen it with my naked eyes. |

Back around '99 or '00 or somewhere around there, someone must have found a few boxes of Collected Book 1 with the B&W Peter Laird cover in a warehouse somewhere, because they were constantly on eBay for $35 for a period of several months, often going unsold. That's when I got my copy.

Well, I thought that this might help:
ttp://www.ninjaturtles.com/comics/books/books.htm listing of most of the collected trades of Turtles. Ever. except these: http://www.ninjaturtles.com/comics/a...ests/index.htm The archie Digests, which may or may not count as books depending on how oyu look at it, but are collected editions. Still leaves alot of uncollected storeis, though. |
oops, I don't think those links list the IMage or Bodycount trades.
|
You can see all of the different collected books here (sans Archie digests).

...
Showoff. |

WOW! You own the hardcover! BTW, how many limited edition softcover first printings do you think they made? I own 2 copies in very fine condition which I plan on holding onto to sell in 40 years. |

I don't know if you're picky about them being in black and white like they were originally or not, but I recently acquired the first 11 issues via the four color trade paperbacks. A bit beat up, but still pretty good condition all things considered. I think these four books may be a bit easier to find than the collected book volume one, but I'm not sure.

i'm not really into the collected books, i'm trying to get a full run of the 62 including all printings...but i couldn't say no to this with free shipping. they're waiting at home as i'm currently in bulgaria!
i now have a spare of book I, so i can trade that off if need be when i get home in a few months... http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....MEWN:IT&ih=007 |

Those auctions...Holy crap....I tried, but the crazy bid wars overcame my small wallet.
|
Haha, and that collected book was up on Tradera (Swedish eBay) and was sold for 20 Swedish kronors. That's like... 3 dollars...
I didn't bid, though, since I already have bought all the single issues. |
some of those prices are inconsistent.....i thought the hardcover would go for more than $168...i shoulda bid on it!
and i thought that nobody would notice that No. 3 was the white cover variant. damn! |
Yeah I saw that white cover too and was thinking the same thing...was going to bid on it if no one noticed. Glad I already won that one years ago for like $40.
$168 isn't alot considering the book was originally sold for $100. Oh well, I'll keep trying. |
The Vol.1 collected books have definitely gone up in price.
Seems the 2nd printing soft cover is going for $40 usually. The 1st printing soft cover goes for usually $100 now. Those prices are double what they were a year ago. |
Hey guys. I'm brand new to the site. Thanks for having me.
I have one of the hardcover TMNT volume one books (the one limited to 1,000). I bought it as a kid for a whopping $100, which was HUGE for me. I never read it, and stored it away. What's neat is it still has the letter from Mirage Comics explaining why the book was late and a sealed envelope with a discount-off coupon. I was just wondering, what is the official name for this book amongst collectors? The covers have no title...so what is it known as? I don't collect TMNT these days, so I'm considering selling it. But I'd like to get all the info I can on it first. Thanks guys! |

What you have is simply the limited hardcover edition of TMNT Collected Book 1. And it's a great book!! |
Thank you Roseangelo! You've got a great page listing the different TMNT books, by the way.
I used to love TMNT back in the early days, and was so psyched to be able to buy this limited hardcover. I was always such a collector of things, that I stored the book away in a protective box and never even read it (I had the issues it included already). So...I was really surprised to come across this the other day. I'd forgotten about it, and the condition it's in is amazing. Thanks so much for your help. |
I just wanted to point out that it looks like panel to panel now has TMNT Collected Book 6 in stock, which is unavailable from Mirage's site.
Now all I need is Book 7. |
How are the pages of First Publishing's four collected TMNT books? Are they the high-quality glossy type of the "Deluxe Edition" TMNT: The Movie comic (also coloured by Lavigne)? Or the standard newspaper-like comic book fare?
|
Glossy. They're quite nice.

Nice -- I just bought all four First books off Ebay in near-mint condition, and for a reasonable price.

Congrats! Very nice books...
|
No kidding, TMNTerminator. These books are awesome -- the colouring is exquisite, especially for issues #1, #10, and #11. My only gripe is with Book I, specifically issue #2; the colouring doesn't seem to match any of the other issues in terms of quality. You'd think I'm just griping here, but the difference really is noticeable. Anyone else find this?
