Dark horse minatures
Does any one have pics of the lead figurines made by dark horse of the TMNT during the 80's? It really hard to find any pictures of them.
|
I have every set and almost every variation. I don't have them here with me but I can try to get pictures.
For the record: the original releases were packaged in small plastic bags stapled to thin card board that read "Dark Horse Miniatures". I've only managed to find one of these and it's set #1, all 4 turtles. The next releases were blister packs, with a gray "Dark Horse Miniatures" logo. They rereleased the original sets in this packaging, and a new set of minis came out too I believe. Later, they repackaged everything in an Eastman/Laird- drawn Leonardo blister pack. They also released the "larger" miniatures at this time, (each of the four turtles were released). The large miniatures were packed in the Leonardo blister. The first release of these was packaged vertically without a piece of foam cushion. The later release was packaged horizontally with a piece of foam cushion. I know too much about this I guess, because I'm trying to collect all the stuff that was advertised in those original tmnt comics. If you have a copy of the "TMNT treasury", some are pictured there, but not in their packaging. |
I have just about all of them opened and will get pictures up tomorrow. I am very big into miniature gaming. i mostly play with them using the Super System rules. I have a whole 25mm city and everything. I have based a few of them as well but not got as far as painting them yet.

I can tell you when I acquired most of these in the late 90's / early 2000's I paid about this or more. Actually at that time, for the large Donatello I paid $40...the rest were $20 or less, sometimes around $5. So yea its a decent price. |
Thank for the pics guys. i am trying to find these things on e-bay.
|
Yeah I always wondered what these looked like. I knew they were made very limitedly but it's awesome to get to see them other then in pictures from the comics.

Who are the terror bears?
I'm looking for a large Leo, anyone help me? Why are they in pieces though, it looks like they're broken which is why I've never bought any. I've never done warhammer type stuff so I have no idea what this is all about. If I had to guess you glue the arm in the way you want so that you can choose the pose? |

The big figures are in pieces because they need to be assembled. It makes them easily fit into the package. There's only one pose that'll work, though. |
I'm sooo glad someone brought this up. I've been uber curious about these and wondered if they ever made the O'Neil lady... guess not :ohwell: I never knew that they had to be painted though. Cool. Thanks Yall.

Yeah , I've got em all on different card , didn't know bagged ones were first ;)
FYI....the big ones (75 mm) are darn htf , I paid around 100$ for Raph & Don....certainly not cheap ! Terror bears must be a freakin nightmare to locate , it's bad enough with the TMNT & the others lol |
I found the Terror Bears and Dr. Feral & Henchmen.

Ebay is a wonderful place, eh? Never saw that Tales shirt before..cool!

first packaging
It took me awhile but I finally scanned a pic of my one set with the first type of packaging. sorry for the pic quality:
http://aycu40.webshots.com/image/264...0926019_rs.jpg This was a plastic bag stapled with 1 staple to a very flimsy piece of paper with DH miniatures' name on it. |

Do you have any clue how many of the sets were available like this? Also, I noticed this for the first time when I was taking pictures the other night.. Leo's pose changed from the first blister pack compared to the second: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1202/...9fad0676d6.jpg |
If I had to guess I'd say it was only the first release sets. I think this was a very early package which didn't last very long at all.
Intersting about Leo's pose! I'll have to check my sets and see if mine are the same way. |
odd I haven't seen anyone post the set of tmnt minis i have the set of the 4 regular turtles i have is on a black backer with a dark horse logo on it.
The blister part is stappled on. |
is it similar to these?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MESE:IT&ih=015 I didn't know they released tmnts on this card....but if it's stapled on, maybe someone repackaged it on the wrong card. |

Like this, right? http://www.mindspring.com/~dlawall/img281.jpg I've never seen TMNT minis with that, though - cool! |
Apparently the initial release was only 2 sets...so I bet these two sets are the only ones with the 1st packaging:

yeah it's almost like that Rose if I was back in LA right now I'd show you guys pics of what I have.
I guess what I have there is pretty rare then yes? |
Sweet - good job digging up the ad!
Of course, yours is the only stapled pack I've ever seen. But the hobby isn't fun unless there's something to hunt for. 8) Quote:

It's the only one I've ever seen too...I'm sure there's more out there though.
The ad is from Fugitoid #1. There may be an earlier ad, not sure... |
I love this site dude...

So much so that you've necrobumped a few threads. :trazz:

I found a AFN&TR with an article on them. The same issue has a pictorial guide of the action figures at that time.
