#8 is out!
 

hey guys! just picked up #8 from the comic store today. i think its better than the last issue. still no battles-of-consequence in it. they tie up one of the 500 plot lines they have going right now, haha. they develop on 2 others. plus, my letter got printed (second page, far left, signed "robert"). actually, i didnt know that would be printed. i wrote it as an email to dan. i actually did write another email, much more "professional" and asked some serious questions about lawson's human art, and such. if ive noticed one thing, its that peter laird doesnt take well to criticism, and never really responds to direct questions about it.

anyways, good issue in my opinion. what do you guys think?

Thanks for the info, Il order it soon. But as you know I won't be reading it for quite some time..

how far are you into them now? citay at war yet? if so, you arent far really. vol.2 issues are short.

Aw man, right when I'm home with a fever. Now I gotta wait until I get better so I can go to the mall and pick up my copy.

Nope, not there yet. Just finished reading Turtle soup Volume 2 #4. Issue #45 is next in line... Oh and Now I have and have read the volume 1 of turtle soup too.

Aye!! It's out already? G'nah... I've gotta remember to pick it up.

Thanks, now i have to go to the comics shop. I think that I should live in that place :lol:

Midtown comics has it so I will order it one of these days.

If it's not their on Wednesday, then it won't be there until the next week. Most/All comic shops get their new comic shipments once a week.

Anyways, my comic shop didn't have it yesterday. Hopefully, they'll have it next week.

so what happens in #8? I havent had a chance to get the new issue yet :x

ok dok - lou from volume 2 comes and whipes jay's memory, and sets him on his way. we find out that not only is april *not* robyn's sister, shes not even the daughter of the two parents. so we dont know where april is from. leo and that guy get into a little scrap, and karai breaks it up. i think thats about it.

Hey, I wonder if mine got printed?? Was there a letter from a Chris or anything that talked about the toy concepts Peter Laird drew up & put on his "Blast from the Past" website? If so, then that's my letter. :D

If not then, maybe next issue I'll see it? I actually mailed it to them in an envelope, figureing that since most people e-mail letters that a snail-mail letter would stand a better chance of gettin' printed. Kinda like a "oh, well he took the time to actually send it too us, so lets print it" sorta deal.

Actually, now that I think about it, it'd be easier for them to just cut'n'paste the e-mail into a file for the comic book then hand-type it over to the 'puter.

Awww crap, I just made more work for them- now I've got no chance. :cry:
Well, maybe a small one. I didn't say anything bad about his stuff, so maybe thats kinda like gettin' my foot in the door? :-?

Well I must say I really liked this issue, a step up from the last one, I would have enjoyed issue 7 more if they didn't have those little black dots all over the part with the super turtles (Reminded me of my copy of Ghidorah, the Three Headed Monster, it's like watching a great crystal clear Godzilla DVD, through a extremely dirty fishtank)

I enjoyed the "sparring" with the wooden swords between Leo and that Cha Ocho guy, a cool fight, they seem to realy dislike each other, I wonder what the heck happened between them.

Raph- One of these days one of you two are going to have to finish this, I just hope it's you.

What the heck's he talkin' about? I'm intreged.

At the end of the ish the nanobots begin to kill April, I hope they save her, I hate it when they pull the classic comic book "Lets kill a beloved character to keep things intresting" card. Well that probably won't happen.

I want to see more of that weird monster that we saw in the Amazon during issue 3, seems like a cool villian.

On the back cover of the issue their's an awesome full page add for the new Turtle show!

and the preview drawing for the next issue: a ton of funny looking Turtle robots, What the hecks this all about!

Anyone know if this comic is doing good in sales?

along with a few short replies to 2 or 3 of your questions. he didnt adress anything in mine =P. ive noticed that with more "thought-out" criticism letters, laird doesnt reply. most of the time he gets mad. i dont think he takes criticism well at all. if you ever say "this sucks" then he just goes off on you. in one fan letter, he said "dont buy our comic if you dont like it". great huh? bleh.

Well what's he supposed to reply with: "Well, I think you suck to!" ?

I mean do you think he's gonna say, "I'm so sorry, I've decided to completely ignore this storyline, make Jim Lawson change his art style, and make this comic completely suit your every whim."

I think saying "If you don't like it don't buy it" and "Well that's your opinion and your intitled to it" are the only polite ways to respond.

Oh, thats no fun then. :( Well, if you want to look at a positive side to him not answering you, at least you got your letter & name in print! :D 10 years from now when people are buying back issues of this comic they'll look in the letters page & be like: "Hey, I wonder why he didn't reply to what that xZAOx guy had to say?" :D

Maybe he's just been burned one time to many & just kinda does that to all critisim? ::shrugs:: Peoples is peoples I guess.

One time I wrote a letter to Erik Larsen in the Savage Dragon comic book, and he didn't print the whole letter, but did use part of what I said in it. He used to have a Q & A section before the letters began & he used what I wrote in that. I said something along the lines of: "I've never had my letter printed in a comic book before & if you could print it I'd be able to die a happy man.". Thats what he used as the question. His anwaswer was "No.". I think it was meant as a joke, as he didn't print my letter, but he did use that little piece of it & listed my name. I was still happy about it though. :D

Thats kinda true when you think about it. "You can't please everybody" & all that. I think Jim Lawson's pencil style for the book is a bit weird lookin', but I don't mind really.

Heh, I just remember that line from Billy Madison, when Adam Sandler is argueing what video game is the best & he's like: "You know something?: YOU SUCK.". :lol: *cough*...well, it was kinda funny..Ah well..

im gonna have to disagree with ya there. how about some discussion about it, ya know? like why they are doing what they are doing, and maybe telling us something like 'just wait! its about to get really interesting!" or something. after all, we are his paycheck. saying "**** off" doesnt really help too much.

he takes the time to yell at people who do the "this sucks" thing, and says "try some helpful criticism". so people give him that, and he totally ignores it. hes a big baby haha.

now, i dont expect him to please everyone. but he should listen to people's input, and if alot of people say something (and alot have, esp. about lawson's horrible humans), then maybe he should think of telling him to spruce them up some. if lots of people wanna see a little more action in there, whats it gonna hurt? noone is gonna complain. he should take osme criticisms to heart, and at least think of them, and give a reply.

And you do make a good point with the cristisims & stuff. Maybe he goes by the "If you can't some something nice, don't say anything at all." motto? :-?

Laird has said that has many times stated that he makes the new volume for fun. He has said that it will continue as long as the making of it is fun. So he is doing it mostly for himself, and if we people crticise him, you should be lucky he prints your letters. It his choice alone wheater or not to change any aspect of the comic. Even if it isn't good.

I always thought it was great how Mirage printed the "negative" letters along with the praise. Some comics only print the ones that have only good things to say about the book. Bleh!

And honestly, as an artist and writer, I can say that if anyone wrote to me saying that they hated my book, (and I've gotten reviews like that on my fan fics,) I would probably tell them to stop reading. Or keep reading because this ain't the whole story and things will change and be explained. Artists are infamous for being bad at taking criticism (and compliments in some cases. :goofygri: ) But I'd also like to know exactly what they hated. Not that I would change everything for one reader, but it's still feedback.

anyways, speaking of issue 8 i thought that agility machine mike was using was bad ass.... just proves he's the ass-kickinest.

i think the 'exercise' the characters were doing was appropriate to their personality and history: mike works with an agility machine having some fun, raph is lifting weights, casey is angrily pounding a punching bag, and leo is doing kata with a wooden sword. and don... he's off doin' nerdy stuff.

nice...

I felt that the exercise scenes were definitely revelent to the turtles' personalities. I feel that this issue was much better than #7. It is amazing that both the world premiere and #8 came out at the same time. :P

23 years later… welcome back!

Journeys #8 is out this week. Any thoughts? Any good posts in here from the olden days?
