Jagwar! Awesome!

Check out Murphy's blog today! A Jagwar figure, after...how long has it been? So cool.

Roseangelo 08-10-2007 10:04 AM

Yes, this is great news!!

mattmanw54301 08-10-2007 10:37 AM

:o friggin AWESOME!!!!

CyberCubed 08-10-2007 11:30 AM

Playmates seems to be at a loss of what to do with the toyline, read Murphy's blog...Michelangelo in Australia? They're really trying to milk what little they can out of the movie line despite them making all the possibile characters already.

Jagwar is cool though, too bad the other creatures are going to be brand new. Would have liked to see Dreadmon as well, he'd fit right in.

CudleyCowlick 08-10-2007 12:18 PM

If you could only see me now, dancing like I got ants in my pants! I couldn't be happier... and I can't wait to see a prototype. Better yet, I can't wait to BUY two of them when they hit the shelves.

VaughnMichael 08-10-2007 12:25 PM

this news is seriously making me cry tears of joy!!

I know, and I agree. I actually got to talk with Jason Bischoff, the guy Murphy mentions in his post, for a little bit at Comic-Con and I can guarantee you that this guy is for the fans. He asked the group of us that was gathered what we wanted to see from Playmates and I outright told him, "No more goofy costumes!" But he lamented that the "goofy costumes" are something that we're going to have to live with. He analogized it with the Batman line and how many different outfits he's been given in action figure form.

However, and I'm not 100% sure I'm remembering this correctly so don't take it as fact, but I believe he said that they'd be trying to release the "goofy costume" figures with completely removable gear so that there'd be a regular action figure underneath it all. I think this is how the new movie wave is - and while most of us already have the figures underneath the accessories in the new wave, at least that means they'll eventually become just regular Turtle action figures when they hit the garage sales rather than being stuck as Birthday Clown Turtles forever.

But in light of being stuck with the "goofy outfits," offsetting that with figures like Jagwar is perfect.

VaughnMichael 08-10-2007 12:47 PM

I'm gonna have to dissagree with doing it that way unless they atleast make new head sculpts.
This is why I don't mind all the goofy variants in the old line because each figure was a brand new sculpt making it an all new figures.
All the entire 2k3 line was for the most part and now with this new movie lines it is just things sculpted over the same figure over and over and over again....and you wonder why they sit on the shelves? Kids aren't stupid.
Anyways like I said I seriously cried over this news of Jagwar being made now if Murphy can only get other characters made.
The Line that we need is one called TMNT Universe and they could any character from any medium and any time period.
To me that would be the ultimate line and thats what they should be doing.
Shame I wasn't there to put my 2 cents in at the con I always seem to miss my opertunity.:ohwell:

Roseangelo 08-10-2007 12:58 PM

Oh I agree that more effort should be put into the Turtle sculpts, but it's one victory at a time and right now getting Jagwar is a victory. :)

Indeed now I'm gonna push for that Armaggon figure.

Raph's Girl 08-10-2007 01:23 PM

Global Mutant Missions eh? Man oh man I hope that means they'll be making a Ninjara figure!!! Please please PLEASE make a Ninjara figure!!!! :o

But WOOT!!! A Jagwar figure!!! YEA!

But those 4 secondary's.... I wonder who the other 3 are??? Ninjara perhaps?? Or Dreadmon? Charlie Llama??? Al'Falqa?? Chien Khan?? The possabilities are endless!

Edit: Bah.. just noticed "the other three characters have never appeared before in any medium"....well still.. if they're making Jagwar....

VaughnMichael 08-10-2007 01:39 PM

Yeah that makes me wonder if the other characters are mutants or what I sure hope they're mutants or monsters.
The turtes figure line has seriously been missing out on all those cool ideas for waaay to long.

CyberCubed 08-10-2007 02:31 PM

Yeah, I'm not buying anymore Movie TMNT varients because they're all EXACTLY the same.

The Street Grinding series was garbage so I skipped that, and of the new wave I only plan to get Leo (and Shredder and Sloth Monster) since that was actually in the movie. Raph, Mike and Don are the same damn thing but with new accessories, I'm not wasting my money on the same figures I already have.

The movie line will probably slip in sales once people realize they're rebuying the same TMNT figures. At least in the old 2k3 line the Turtles actually LOOKED different whenever they made new varients.

METALHEAD 08-10-2007 02:36 PM

Michelangelo in Australia i like that i'd like to see in dressed in human clothes like the original toys:tgrin:

Ninjinister 08-10-2007 05:09 PM

I think I just had the world's biggest fangasm.

Roseangelo 08-10-2007 06:18 PM

Holy crap! It's fantastic!

CyberCubed 08-10-2007 07:01 PM

Anyone think that a vintage line of either old toon or Archie characters is more likely than ever?

Doesn't Laird still have to approve of characters before they put them into production? Does that mean he approved of the use of Jaguar? Or is Murphy allowed to tell Playmates to make a toy without Laird's approval?

I'm hoping this is a sign that things will be changing and we may eventually see old toon and Archie figures. I think Peter approves new figures on some level, but I'm not sure how deep that runs. I do know that he's the barrier that's keeping old toon figures from being made. It does sound like Murphy is trying to change this, especially based on some comments he made here.

Jones_Casey 08-10-2007 08:04 PM

did anybody else read that other post about the krang gang, apparntly the license for the old toon characters has been bought so they could be put on t-shirts but something hints that maybe we'll get action figures aswell.

I don't know who this Jagwaar guy is but what the hell new secondary figures for once i'm buyin them up

CyberCubed 08-10-2007 08:13 PM

If there is a change of heart in Mirage lately, its a pretty good one.

Mirage has always owned the license to ALL the old toon or Archie characters, they just chose not to use them. There are no "rights" that prevents Mirage from doing stuff with Rocksteady, Bebop, Krang, Slash, etc.

ToTheNines 08-10-2007 08:23 PM

Only, they= Laird.

A toy based on an Archie comics character.... this is not happening. I was hit buy that bus and I'm in heaven.

Of course, I'd kill for a "Jess Harley" Leather Head too.... but ain't gonna happen.

Jagwar is half Jaguar/half human. Yesuree...Bestiality was present and accounted for in the Archie series.

His mother, Juntara, was a native of a small villiage in Brazil who wanted more out of her life. So she went on a quest for enlightenment. First she went South and encountered a snake god to figuratively shed her skin of her old life (the turtles would eventually encounter the snake god...he was a bit of a ditz). Then she went West and encountered Jaguar, the god of death (he also goes by a rather familiar name if you saw the movie... Jaguar aka Yaotl). She fell in love with Jaguar and they had a child (he was in cat form the entire time BTW...*lol*). Eventually she left her love and son (Jagwar was 12 at the time) to continue her path.

The turtles first encounter Jagwar in Brazil at a temple dedicated to Yaotl. He is trying his best to stop the deforestation occuring there (note: read an article today that deforestation has dropped sharply in that area :D ). He helps them save April (who is doing some report there) and joins em on their adventures. He eventually helps to form a new team of anthromorphic heroes called The Mighty Mutanimals (a spin-off series came out of it). Unfortunatly Jagwar and the rest of the mutanimals were brutily murdered. :ohwell:

Jagwar's one of my fave characters out of the Archie series other than Ninjara, so Im TOTALLY happy that they're making an action figure of him.

Oh here's a pic of Jagwar (taken from the TMNT Archie Universe Sourcebooks):

Jones_Casey 08-10-2007 10:59 PM

thanks for the bio, even though i never read the archie comics i'm really glad about this line as it poses the possibility of us getting new figures from various mediums along with new characters and hopefully characters from the 2003 toon.

has anyone else thought that their might be a connection between jagwar, our three other new nameless friends and the new TMNT cartoon thats supposed to be released sometime next year?

VaughnMichael 08-10-2007 11:15 PM

I'm gonna sound ungreatfull but I don't like how he looks....he looks more like Rahzar to me than Jagwar...:ohwell:

Meh, let's just hope it's not a final product.

gobo 08-10-2007 11:32 PM

I find the promise of a Jagwar fig quite alluring. But, no longer do I collect action figures. However, if they make an Armaggon... ^_^!!!

It's a different style for him, yes.. but look at all the detail he's got! And that's been one of your big complaints! And keep in mind he's sculpted to fit the CGI world, not the comic book world.

News of an Armaggon will be my heart attack-inducing moment. And how can you have Armaggon without Verminator X? But I really shouldn't get too hopeful too fast here...

yeah and I'm one of the people who hate the cgi worlds look...I'll take comic turtles any day over lizard looking ones.
And I hate his arm position he's gonna be elbowing all of my figures with that articulation lol:lol:
Oh well it's cool and all but it's just not Jagwar to me.
It's the head I'll be honest I also think it's the lack of pupils like I said in Murphys blog thats doing this to me...he looks to Evil I really hope they don't make him a bad guy...:ohwell:
It's like I also said to him it's not that I don't like the figure it's bad ass it's just not the Jagwar I know.
I'm looking over the figure now the detail is nice considering that it's based on the cgi world which is all rubbery and plastic looking for most characters...but I notice he has little spots perhaps it's not a fully painted proto type.
I'll be buying it anyways perhaps I'll just take the parts off I don't like and resculpt it to look more like the Archie version.

Roseangelo 08-10-2007 11:50 PM

Oh come on, adding pupils to a figure is the easiest mod you can make. ;)

yeah true his fur colour is also off it's to dark...but I guess I can change that also...was expecting leafs on him I guess but like I said I'm gonna sculpt all of that...the head resculpting is going to be the hardest part...his head looks to large to me.

mattmanw54301 08-10-2007 11:54 PM

Anyone know what scale it will be? TMNT 2k3 scale or movie figure scale?

I'd Imagine Movie...which really doesn't bother me because Jagwars pretty large.

mattmanw54301 08-11-2007 12:01 AM

So I'd imagine this 'Global Mutant Missions' thing is the theme for the 08 series eh? Could be cool. I think what they are trying to do is give us some updated versions of the Archie characters along with the 4 Turtles. Which is cool. It's not a vintage Mutanimals line, but it's a start!!!!!

CyberCubed 08-11-2007 12:05 AM

Hey, imagine if these mutants appear in the new direction for the cartoon in 2008? :p

I could see them using Armaggon, maybe.

Raph's Girl 08-11-2007 12:12 AM

Well you gotta realize that the sculpts don't always resemble the finished product.

An Armaggon figure would be nice....but a Ninjara figure would be even nicer.

The only time that really ever falls into place is with the paint jobs not the sculpting I know I've been collecting action figures and proto types for a long time.
