Raphael: Bad Moon Rising 02

Preview is up for the issue but unfortunatly it's gonna be a bit delayed.

Here's what Dan Berger says:

Quote:

Raphael #2 is still at the printers, so it's going to be late barring some sort of distribution miracle. Sorry, folks!
But at least we were notified beforehand that it was delayed....unlike say the folks at Marvel and DC who never notify when a comic is delayed.

I'm glad cause the comic shop owner I went to yesterday said it was sold out. God I'm never going to a comic store again. Morons work there.

I used to get that all the time.

"Do you guys have Tales of the TMNT #26?"

"Let me check." pause. "Nope, all sold out!"

"Hmm, OK, thanks."

So next month, try again, this time on ****ing Wednesday -- which is the day comics arrive at comic stores here in the U.S., right around noon. Place couldn't have been open more than a couple hours, tops. "Did you guys get Tales of the TMNT #27?"

"Hold on, let me check." pause. "Sold out, sorry!"

At this point I was pretty much furious. I wanted to call him a ****sucker and hang up the phone, but settled on speaking to the store owner. Turns out they never even carried Tales of the TMNT to begin with, thus making it impossible for them to be "sold out" of something they don't even put on their shelves.

Anyway, moral of the story is just set up a pull list/box at your local comic store. No fuss, no problems, no buying comics on the seat of your pants wondering if it'll even be on the shelves by the time you get down there.

Spitfire 08-14-2007 09:12 PM

I would but my store won't let me unless I have 5 titles or more and I only read turtles.

I'll deal with getting them online.

Exactly I don't know how many times we have to say thise seriously lol
So many comic shop owners are just like the guy on the simpsons how do you think that character even got created.

CylonsKlingonsDaleksOhMy 08-15-2007 09:13 AM

I'm sorry, but this looks even worse than #1. Whose stupid idea was "Bad Moon Rising" anyway?

I just wanted a nice four-issue miniseries of Raph and Casey whipping butt. But werewolves and eyeball thingies? Aw, gimme a break...

Oh well.

BTW, nice avatar, Raph's Girl.

Roseangelo 08-15-2007 09:17 AM

I like that it's a Raph and Shadow story (c'mon, Raph and Casey is so overused), but I would have preferred something more like the Paris story to this.

Re a Raph/Casey mini - They already did one of those in the 90's called Bodycount (altho it was initially just called Casey Jones and Raphael). The first issue was done by Mirage, the rest done by Image. It's the most bloody and gory TMNT series you'll ever read. Raph and Casey vs the Yakuza. Good stuff.

As for my avatar...thanks...I've used it before...decided to try it out again. :D

But anyways....I like that it's a story about Shadow.. There's only a couple other stories that are Shadow centric...she's one of my fave characters.

CylonsKlingonsDaleksOhMy 08-15-2007 09:28 AM

I like Shadow, too, but Tales #7 and 12 have been a little too bizarre for my taste. I did like them both, however--they're just not what I'm used to or my favorites.

As for Bodycount, love it. I've read Raph & Casey #1... This is exactly what Raph is about. I want more of it!!!

Buslady 08-15-2007 10:02 AM

I wanted a complete Raph SOLO...that's what I was expecting.
Not Raph ACCOMPANYS other characters...from the previews of the 2nd part it looks like all he is is the muscle. Can't they show him using his brains once in awhile? He's not a moron.

They were all "done by" Mirage. The first one or two were published by Mirage as "Casey Jones & Raphael," then when Mirage shut down for a while Image/Highbrow republished 1-2, then also 3 & 4 all as "Body Count."

Roseangelo 08-22-2007 09:59 PM

Anyone know if this came out today? I didn't get over to the comic shop.

Andrew NDB 08-22-2007 11:08 PM

Direct negatory.

You don't know? Or it didn't? :dead:

Andrew NDB 08-23-2007 12:45 AM

The latter.

Though for a green fix, "Green Lantern Corps" #15 that came out today was awesome.

No... It's not out. Dan said it would be delayed. So Im hoping it's out next week. I'll find out tomarrow (friday) for sure tho.

Raph's Girl 08-24-2007 05:45 PM

Ok... Midtown's saying it's out on Wednesday (Aug 29th).

Tinuvielsdreams 08-24-2007 08:21 PM

I was wondering why I haven't gotten a call asking why I haven't picked my comic up. August 29th...this is good to know

Roseangelo 08-29-2007 07:40 PM

Anyone get?

Venom 08-30-2007 11:27 AM

I just noticed this morning I was debited by Mirage back on the 27th and I usually get my books about 4 days after that so it will be out any day now!

SonOfZog 08-30-2007 09:48 PM

its out.

I got it earlier this week, on shelf at the store.
I like it, but it really doesn't focus on Raph like a solo series potentially could.

Venom 08-31-2007 02:11 PM

Got it today, just like clockwork; I really like the story, and Jim's art in this one is much better than the last issue! Raph has a sort of..Talbot-esque look to him in the face and the linework of buildings were even and straight!

The human faces could still use some extra attention, but aside from that I found this issue very enjoyable.

Maybe good ol' Jim heard us on here and is focusing on making his art better.

If not, I'll still give him props for a noticable improvement - at least to me. 8)

discordiatookie 08-31-2007 04:24 PM

I enjoyed the issue, twas pretty good. But I cant help but think 'what coulda been'. Take Tales #36 for example, a Raph solo in THAT vain would've been amazing.

Part that made me laugh out loud:

Spoiler:
Weird shop keeper dude: "Please don't hurt me, I have 82 children at home!"
Monkey Robber: "Maybe i'll do you a favour and aim lower then!"

Roseangelo 08-31-2007 06:24 PM

I pretty much agree with what's been said. It really isn't a bad issue, although not an ideal Raphael "solo" adventure. And the art was noticeably better. I still think it'd look even better if there was some toning.

Oh, and something I noticed and found funny, since I make my living finding mistakes like this..

If you look in all of the copyright info at the bottom of the IFC, it says, "Letters to Tales of Leonardo Blind Sight ..." Issue #1 has the same mistake. Oops. :tlol:

Ninjinister 08-31-2007 09:02 PM

Shoot... my local shop still doesn't have Tales of 37... they never get stuff this sodding late!

Buslady 09-01-2007 10:49 AM

well i grabbed issue 2, they didnt have 1 at the shop...i freakin found a comic shop IN A MALL...that is rare.
it's okay, not a Raph solo at all, but he is the only turtle in it...it should be titled as Raphael & Shadow.
Liked the piece with Raph & the bottle of "spirits"...that was funny.
The art...meh...

I need to find #1 now.

Time Mistress 09-02-2007 09:15 PM

My comic shop used to be in a mall, two of them actually. I agree that it's a decent story but not really solo Raph stuff, it's more like Raph and his girls. But I am enjoying it. I think the plot moved along better in this issue. The cliffhanger was a fun one. And does this parallel universe remind anyone else of Beetlejuice's Netherworld?

CylonsKlingonsDaleksOhMy 09-04-2007 06:57 AM

I think it's definitely noncanon. Giant owls?

To quote Raph himself: "Hoo boy..."

Raph and His Girls... Nice title!

It's canon, but it's an alternate dimension we're in here remember...

Raph's Girl 09-05-2007 11:59 AM

This was a weird issue... for one Sloane is what 15 and SMOKING?! And nobody said a fraking word!! A teenager smoking isn't frowned upon?! Come on!! Nobody was like "You smoke?? Don't you know that's bad for you?"

Raph drinking alcahol is fine...that's just him (course he's been drinking since he was Sloane's age) but smoking? Yes understandably she's a werewolf but still...that's just nuts.

The shop owner reminded me of the Diner chef in TMNT with his whining about his kids (82?? Yikes! ).

I have a feeling that Lulu's daddy captured Lilith.

OMG! :O

Like anyone cares if a 15-year old smokes IRL... Well, not in Sweden anyway... I don't say I like the way it is cos I don't, I just say that not too many people care about that...

Venom 09-07-2007 04:04 PM

Most in America don't care either, it's just so damned politically correct here. "Oh let's ban smokes and go get drunk afterward!" Please...pompous prick politicians.

Anyhoo, in the first ish Raph does comment to Sloane how she shouldn't smoke those "cancer sticks".

I actually think Raph sorta likes Sloane, because she's a total rebel just like him, but there would be no way in hell he'd let on.

Well if you're not into Campy movies about drag queens then you won't like what I'm talking about :P
Raph's Girl is talking about Harry Potter.

Meh. In, like, the 3rd issue of Vol. 1 April has no compunctions about offering beers to her new teenage friends.

And my shop didn't get the issue in for some reason. Though considering how much I'm not liking the story, I'm in no hurry to get the issue.
