What's the best incarnation of Leonardo?

Personally, I like the new cartoon Leo better. He was kinda useless and boring in the old 1987 series, and I found him to be kinda annoying in the CGI movie.

His character seems to be more fleshed out in the new 2003 series. Not to mention, I think that the Leo of the new cartoon is a MUCH better fighter than he was in the old 1987 series. The current Leo (new cartoon) IMO, is definately close to his comic book counterpart.

Scandia 03-05-2008 06:56 PM

I voted for NT Leo. Possibly because 2k3 is a very Leo-centric universe.

But Leonardo is my favorite Turtle in all TMNT universes. He's just plain wonderful.

VaughnMichael 03-05-2008 07:01 PM

I gotta go with modern 2k3-FF leo.

shuriken 03-05-2008 08:06 PM

Yeah I never did like old toon Leo. CGI Leo was cool, but he seemed like too much of a douche to be his best incarnation. I think 2K3 version was the best because you not only got to see his cool serious side, but his fun side and even his dark side. He gets my vote cloisely followed by Live action Leo from the 1st 3 movies because much of the same, except a lot whinier "Shredder You gotta listen to reason!" and "Bring him, some food!" should ring a bell.

thebrownranger 03-05-2008 08:49 PM

In my opinion, I like the first live action movie Leo the best because thats the one who I watched the most as a kid and he reminds me of the Leo from the comics as well. :)

The Shelf 03-06-2008 07:50 AM

I know this is about Leo, but I thought I'd post my fave version of each of the turtles anyway because I have a need to be special... But seriously, here's the list:

Leo -- 2k3
Mike -- Mirage comics
Don -- Mirage comics
Raph -- Movies (all of them)

Revan 03-06-2008 01:23 PM

I really liked the new movie version. He seemed like an actual teenager. A bit pround and cocky but still a strong leader. It was nice to see a leader who isn't perfect imo.

BubblyShell22 03-06-2008 02:16 PM

I voted for 2K3 Leo because he's really cool. He has a fun side, a dark side, and a loyal side. He seems the most realistic of the Leonardos that are on the list.

tone-master21 03-06-2008 04:17 PM

I also voted for 2K3 Leo.

CyberCubed 03-06-2008 06:26 PM

CGI Leo and 2k3 Leo seem the most similar to me, in any case. Movie 1-3 Leo is right behind them, only he actually made some wisecracks like the other Turtles in the old movies and had some of old cartoon Leo in him.

I still like original cartoon Leo for the nostalgia, but in a lot of episodes he really didn't do anything exciting now as I'm rewatching the DVDs.

Masked Ninja 03-07-2008 12:58 AM

I have a friend who is a Raph fan and doesn't like Leo at all. However, her favorite incarnation of Leo is 2k7, because he has a bit of an edge. He isn't always right or perfect, like he is in so many other universes. He doesn't just blow Raph off in an oh-so-perfect Zen way when Raph's being surly, he pushes back.

Even 2k3 Leo - season 4 was rough for him, but of course he had a perfect reason to be acting that way, and after some rough lessons was back to normal and better than ever.

As for me, I like 2k7 Leo about as much as 2k3. I need to read more Mirage, but Leo's pretty cool there too. However, the OT is my least favorite Leo without question -bossy, whiny, and really not that cool. He just ends up looking like a suckup to Sensei and party pooper. Second least favorite is 1990 Leo, because he doesn't really stand out as a character and just lets Raph walk all over him... and his comebacks are lame. :P

Sage Ninja 03-07-2008 01:54 AM

guh! I was going to make a thread on the best leo incarnation next but you beat me to it Leo2007.

oh well I voted for 2k3 Leo because this representation of him really made me respect his character, but 2007 CGI movie Leo was a close second. He didn't have the gentle disposition that 2k3 Leo posseses and I feel that this Leo actually gave Raph a reason to a problem with him. Unlike in other incarnations where Raph's beef with Leo always seems kind of petty and juvinile.

I have more to say but I have to go to bed.

And I whole heartedly agree with you on live action movie Leo. He's my least favorite Leo and he really was lame with his come backs and just didn't come across as a leader type to me.

Kendamu 03-07-2008 03:36 PM

I like Leo's OT incarnation from the 1987 season the best after the Mirage version.

Mandi-chan 03-07-2008 07:05 PM

Mine would be 2007 movie Leo and Mirage Leo (although, I have a soft spot for 1990 movie Leo as well.).

Mr._Mutant_Man 03-07-2008 07:09 PM

I'm going to go with 2003 cartoon Leonardo, even if I haven't seen many episodes. He has more of a personality this time around.

You could never say that about OT Leonardo in the first season. Man Leonardo in the first season was like a competely diffrent character when compared to how he became later on. He was commanding, strong, and level heeded, and he just came across as a leader type, and no where near a suck-up, in fact I saw him as more independent minded and making his own dession based on his own judgements instead of stoping to think "what would Splinter want me to do in this situation" and such.

Masked Ninja 03-11-2008 02:40 PM

^ You do have a point. Leo is more normal in the first season, and stronger. He doesn't particularly stand out either except for being "in charge", but at least he isn't annoying. A particularly bad directing decision for the later Leo was giving him a whinier voice... as if his "Master Splinter wouldn't do it this way" routine wasn't already making him more irritating.

Raph The Angry 03-11-2008 03:15 PM

I also went with 2k3 Leo, I've never really liked how whiny he came across in previous encarnations, 2k3 Leo is the first time he really seems worthy to lead in my opinion, level headed, most skilled, and bases his decisions off of the teachings of splinter, but is still independent enough to make his own decisions. But 87 season of OT Leo was pretty good as you guys already said, he was a lot better than his later encarnations in the OT series.

Leo in the OT was just, well, um, there. He didn't do much. Not to mention, he was nothing like his comic book counterpart.

The current Leo (2003 version) is the best one yet, because he is closer to his comic book counterpart.

Jelly Bean 03-21-2008 11:18 PM

I can't pick between Leo from the cartoon and Leo from the movie (2007). I liked them both alot but since I've mostly cartoon Leo I voted for him. But I sort of like his voice better in the movie.

TheUltimateShredhead 03-21-2008 11:27 PM

im sticking with leo from the ot series! my desition might come as a suprise when im saying that i just recently saw episode "Snakes Alive!":P

Jester 03-21-2008 11:30 PM

I like a strong yet flawed Leonardo as leader of my TMNT, so I go with either movies or 2k3 Leo.

Donnie 03-22-2008 05:25 PM

I voted for the CGI because he is the same as the 2007 cartoon version, only a tad more serious which I like. The 2007 rocks as well.

Leogeddon 03-22-2008 05:27 PM

Turtles Fight with Honor!
I love the old Leo because he seems more like a turtle than a humanoid like in the new series(es). Leo didn't have much of a part in the 2nd nor third movie either which disappointed me. I am a Raph fan, but Leo is close to the top as well. I look to him as my motivation sometimes. :)

His leadership is best in TMNT 2003 series though, so basically in the comic.

Warhorse 03-22-2008 10:39 PM

2k3 Toon, though I also liked him in the first movie. I liked it how he could butt heads with Raph, but joke around with his other brothers as well. Remember when he went to Splinter "we had our first battle Master Splinter, but we kicked, uh, I mean, we fought well!" I wonder what he was going to say!;)

Sage Ninja 03-24-2008 01:08 AM

Warhorse, are you refering to Leo from the live action series with your last comment?

I was talking about the live action movie. Right after the Turtles save April the first time, and then there is the intro music, and then they sit down to meditate with Splinter, there was a scene where Leo almost got carried away with his tongue. If I remember correctly, there was something mentioned in the movie novel too on how Leo was more reserved with Splinter than he was with his brothers.

Jelly Bean 03-26-2008 10:16 PM

I really need to get around to seeing the movies that started it all, I've only seen Leo from the cartoon on 4Kids and the CGI movie.

Revan 03-26-2008 10:18 PM

Woah woah woah! you have not seen the first three live action movies?!
Get on that asap. Movie one is very good. Not just a good turtle movie but a good movie in general

Coola Yagami 03-26-2008 10:46 PM

Yeah, I just realized... the first movie made Leo act like a serious leader, still argue with Raph, and yet still be goofy and silly like the rest of the turtles.

Forgive my hostility. You should check them out, they are pretty good. But beware, movie one is addicting!

Jelly Bean 03-26-2008 11:35 PM

how many are there?

Revan 03-26-2008 11:37 PM

3 live action movies and of course the cg movie

Andrew NDB 03-26-2008 11:44 PM

For Leo? My vote... isn't a choice on the poll. A couple of the other Turtles, might be among that list of choices.

Shark_Blade 03-27-2008 12:12 AM

God it's hard to decide.

I'd go with the CGI version just because he looks damn good there. ;) He also shows the burden of a leader in the movie to stand up to his brother and fight.

meh, I disagree I thought live action movie Leo was the weakest portrayal of Leo and didn't come across as being much of a leader type or a good match tp up against Raphael's aggression in this movie.

let me guess...Mirage right?

Lady Venus 03-27-2008 03:30 PM

The classic Leo is da best!

I agree, Leo's looked so cold and chilling sometimes in the movie and he did come across as a good leader. He also didn't take crap from Raph!! 8)

I think snakes alive is one of the better Leonardo centric episodes of the old series. I really couldn't stand Leonardo Lighten's up.
