Which Splinter is better?

Hello all you TNMT fans. I'm a new member and I was woundering about one thing. Which Splinter seems better:

~ The one when He was once human and became a rat by the ooze

~ Or the one that was once a pet rat and became a larger one from the ooze.

For me I like the one that was once a pet rat. And I have no clue why the original cartoon had the other option.

What do you think?

Tokka-B 02-21-2003 09:50 PM

Um, sorry to burst your bubble, but this should be in another forum, maybe general tmnt, but you are new, this is a common thing. Anyway, I like the one when he turns from human to rat.

J Legault 02-21-2003 10:14 PM

Sorry, I didn't know. And I am just a new guy here.

Machias Banshee 02-21-2003 10:28 PM

Heh, already done.. :D

Eye of Sarnath 02-21-2003 10:54 PM

I think the cartoon made Splinter be a man who becomes like a man so they wouldn't have to address Hamato Yoshi's death. Death in cartoons=big no-no.

One Radical Dude 02-21-2003 10:54 PM

I prefer Master Splinter from the old cartoons (from human [as Hamato Yoshi] to rat).

J Legault 02-21-2003 11:26 PM

:-? OK I guess some like the old cartoon Splinter a bit better. Of course I don't know why two different origins are 25% different. I E-Mailed Shredder once and he had no clue ether. The point is at least all the TMNT Series will always be 4 mutated turtles to ninja turtles and not 4 humans mutated to turtles.

Donatello 02-21-2003 11:33 PM

i like splinter being a pet rat, if he's human it makes the mutagen to versitlie, i never understood why just contact with an animal would affect the mutation

J Legault 02-21-2003 11:50 PM

:D Finally! Someone likes the pet rat plot better than the human.
Thank You & Thank You

Tokka-B 02-21-2003 11:58 PM

I don't know, it just seems more fun to have a human turn into a rat rather than a rat growing, it gives kids hope that they too can turn into rats...

Karpo_007 02-22-2003 02:29 AM

The origin was changed because it would have been too heavy for the children. I say Original Splinter of course. It is also more realistic that one being could evolve than a human turnig into a diffrent specie.

warbird 02-22-2003 04:19 AM

Thats my favourit:

~ Or the one that was once a pet rat and became a larger one from the ooze.

But the other version is quite good too.

Yes,
but i think Bebob and Rockstady where although human beings bevor mutating to a Pic/Rhino -> and that story wasn`t changed, if i'm right :)

Jephael 02-22-2003 08:36 AM

I liked the idea of Hamato Yoshi turning into Splinter since Oroku Saki became Shredder. It was cooler that way because they would call each other by their proper names and it would sound so cool.

SHREDDER: "Prepare to die, Yoshi!"
SPLINTER: "I think not, Saki!"

J Legault 02-22-2003 09:11 AM

[quote="Karpo_007"]The origin was changed because it would have been too heavy for the children.

Was that why. So the company decided to change for less heavy matiral.
The one in the movie didn't look too heavy. And why bother walking around and say "Well the rat need to be human at first" said one of the writers.

 Too Heavy

heretic888 02-22-2003 09:53 AM

hmmm

actually, child, even the movie version was a candy-coated remake of the mirage story.

Karpo_007 02-22-2003 09:57 AM

When they made the cartoon, there was now way they could have shown death in it. That is why they chaged it. But in the new show it seems we will have the real origin.

As for the movie, It was pretty much the original Story, without Nagi.

Skeletoncrew 02-22-2003 10:16 AM

I'm all for Splinter being a rat originally. Rats make such great pets!

Machias Banshee 02-22-2003 10:44 AM

 I dont care How he came to be, just as long as he's around... :D

I like both origins....I kinda had my own theory, too. that both Yoshi AND the pet Rat kinda got "fused" together, from the mutagen, so that the two became one. (dont ask how, its just an idea.. :P )

Shellfox 02-22-2003 11:30 AM

Origin I like the old toon

Personality wise, I really like how the new toon Splinter is coming along, a nice blend os wisdom and comidy

TMNT is cooler than MOTU 02-22-2003 01:55 PM

I like the pet rat-giant rat origin story.

Oh yeah, kinda like how they created Rocksteady and Bebop. I wish they had shown those two actually get mutated, but I suppose they were worried that would've been too heavy for the kids to grasp as well. :trolleye:

J Legault 02-22-2003 03:45 PM

Well there's quite alot of agreements here. For those of you that seen the new episode this morning it showed the Origin of Splinter in the pet rat plot. Even I think the episode didn't have any heavy matiral in it. I can't wait for the origin of Splinter's Master Yoshi on the show.

(P.S. this is my last post for this commit)

Duke 02-22-2003 11:38 PM

I've already posted on this like 5 times because it seems like everyone starts this thread. But i still like the original cartoon origin just because it is what i was first exposed to. The original mirage origin is going on me now that i've expanded my tmnt universe although i still have problems w/ the fact a rat knew ninjitsu.

tekcop 02-22-2003 11:47 PM

I like the rat-to-human/rat origin. It just seems more, uh... realistic?

Karpo_007 02-23-2003 01:55 AM

No it doesn't. Life forms can mutate because of radiation, but not chane species... It's not more realistic, thats for sure. Of course There is the part about a rat learning Ninitsu.... But it's fiction. It's not supposed to be realistic. There is just two origins, Original one, and one for kids[In the late 80's]. It's good to know we got the original original in the new show.

azure turtle 02-23-2003 03:23 AM

It's arguable that there are only two origin stories. The movies had a variation of the Mirage origin, and then there's the TNM origin story, but I know that many of you hate that one.

Personally, I liked the Mirage origin better. Splinter as a pet rat before being mutated is such a cool idea. I still enjoy the 'toon version, though, since it's what I grew up with. :)

heretic888 02-23-2003 10:47 AM

hmmmm

ok, everyone, its spelled NINJUTSU.

karpo is right that irradiated mutation is a far more likely scenario (albeit still unrealistic) than the species-swapping thing.

as for splinter learning ninjutsu before he mutated, the palladium rpg explains that splinter was most likely a mutant of some kind long before he was exposed to the mutagen...... this seems to be so due to his high level of intelligence (even as a rat) and unusually long lifespan.

translation: the mirage splinter is better. besides, he could just kick the cartoon splinter's ass, anyway. :D

Donatello02 02-23-2003 11:47 AM

Yeah, but the movie Splinter looks all diseaed and sickly. The cartoon one looked alive, and kicked Shredder's ass every episode.

Jephael 02-23-2003 11:51 AM

The Archie Adventure Splinter had to be in the best of health though cause he really could kick ass in the series.

heretic888 02-23-2003 11:53 AM

hmmmm

yes but the mirage splinter, along with the new cartoon splinter, could kick all the turtles' asses combined. now, thats badass.

Woohoo! :D heh, I've read the few archies i have, and Splinter's always got that strong sense of leadership, even when Leo was leading the way...

hehehe, I always loved this site...its got three comics scanned. The end of the second, and most of the third have Splinter kicking serious butt (especially in the awesome samurai garb...so cool! :D ).

Tokka-B 02-23-2003 01:19 PM

Yea, and the flying moo-cows will eat Shredder......

Hmmm, wierd, I wouldn't have thought a ninja master would want to kick their own apprentices' asses.....that doesn't seem the "ninjaesque" thing to do...

Karpo_007 02-23-2003 01:21 PM

Yes it does. It's called training.

Duke 02-23-2003 01:21 PM

Thanks for the spelling lesson.

Tokka-B 02-23-2003 01:22 PM

Ok, then you and I have a slight different comparison of kicking someone's ass and training....to each their own I guess,

Machias Banshee 02-23-2003 03:02 PM

 go look at the cartoon. Is Splinter beatin' their tails, or training them? You decide.... :D

raphael90 02-23-2003 03:42 PM

splinter

I like the cartoon story about him mutating from human to a rat I guess...

Yeah...but in another way its kinda cool how all of a sudden Shredder calls them out to fight and 'BAM!' there they are mutated. It's like to me "Oh cool!"

*pathogenic out*

Raphael 02-23-2003 03:45 PM

Can somebody recap the TNM origin for me, please?

Jephael 02-23-2003 03:49 PM

I thought the NM origin was the same as the movie origin.

Donatello02 02-23-2003 03:49 PM

It is. It starts off where the third movie ended. I think. Either way, it blew.
