NECA Cartoon Figs?
What do you all think the chances are of NECA OT figs happening?
|
Sooner or Later if the line keeps doing well, I think it's a bit moronic that they couldn't at least make bebop and rocksteady with the anniversary coming up.
But I guess we can chalk that one up to playmates, but I really can't talk about what they're doing but it's total crap. |
does it have something to do with another re-release of the original figures?
. for yes .. for no |
I don't think, realistically, that it'll happen. Not that it "couldn't" or "shouldn't", just that the line won't run nearly long enough.
As it stands, Neca is putting out a wave, guaging sales, *then* planning the next wave. Turtles will always sell, so we're getting a wave 2. Foot soldiers and Elite should sell well because of army-building, and the popularity of Shredder will almost guarantee a third wave. But once you put April, Splinter, and possibly Casey on the shelves... that just might be it for the line. Three unique molds, no parts-sharing, no army building (expect maybe April for Mousers). Neca's either going to have to think of something brilliant to guarantee a 4th wave, or blow it all out at 3, give us the basic good and bad guys, and call it a day. |
I said it before... i'm all for NECA cartoon based figures... but in all honesty, looking at their Labyrinth toys, I would MUCH MUCh prefer them to do Movie Turtles from the first 2, Jim Henson Creature Shop made, movies. Think of how awesome that would be.
|
Because there's nothing toy companies like to do more than re-use molds and sell us the same figure over and over, ad nauseum, I'd be surprised if NECA didn't do a cartoon repaint of their TMNT figures at some point.

Well if NECA only sticks to comics, perhaps we might see some archie stuff come down the line later on. The turtles looked very similar between Archie and OT, and I've said it before but I want an Armaggon figure.
|
With the time between releases and with as little as being released at one time, I would rather that they stick to the comics right now. If NECA were releasing larger waves (like 8 to 12 figures or something) I wouldn't mind if a few cartoon figures came out as well.
|
How come Neca hasn't done/didn't do the turtles with their color specific bandanas? seems like a no brainer. Especially if their license lets them do it which we know. Giving them different skin tone would be nice too. Also make Neca shredder gray/purple and you have OT Shredder basically.
They'd sell even better than the first turtles. I've been hesitant to buy the turtles because of that reason, yeah red bandanas are their "true" form but I grew up and every series I've ever watched has always been the non-mirage turtles. |

Umm...multicolored bandanas on the comic figures...yeah that looks like the toon...not.
I was hoping NECA would put something out that actually looked like the OT characters. |

You guys will be lucky if the NECA line continues past the inevitable Casey and Splinter figure, because I don't see NECA making endless TMNT characters.
Aside from April/Shredder/Foot/Elite....they'll probably make Splinter, Casey, a Triceraton and some other character like Leatherhead and call it quits there. I think some of you need to realize NECA doesn't let its toylines last forever and they've ended plenty of their other series for various reasons. The NECA toys will probably never go past Mirage's core cast and even then we're lucky if we ever see "Leatherhead" or a "Triceraton" at all. Being too optimistic will lead to your disappointemnt. |

It would have been an easy as hell variant, and yet they didn't do it. Quote:

But yes, a normal movie Shredder would rock -- with sparkly red paint for the outfit. Or, better yet, sparkly purple paint and that helmet with extra spikes! :D |

If you want things to keep bringing in money and lasting a long time you're going to have to give in at some point and come to the realization that both the old toon and Archie series and heck even the old video games and toys are what people remember more about the TMNT than the Mirage comics. Am I saying they shouldn't just make Mirage based figures? No, but it would be foolish not to step outside into the other universes and make characters people have been begging to have in plastic form for years like Armaggon. But this wouldn't be the first time a foolish business decision was made involving TMNT action figures. Quote:

In actuality, he's a candy dish. But when I used it for that purpose I ate too much candy, so I filled it with pencils. |

I would like to see OT toys if longevity permits, but if not I'll be just dandy with the Mirage toys. |
Quote:
I don't see why they can't cross release OT turtles with mirage Turtles once they start running out of Mirage characters. Just to keep the line pumping. |
Quote:
So no, nothing's a given, not even April and the Mousers, which we've *seen* prototypes of. If sales are high enough on the Foot wave, we'll likely see her in Wave 3, but that's only a likely... ... Not a given. |
Quote:
And I know that we shouldn't get our hopes up to high, since other than the 4, there really aren't that many characters from Mirage that the common person would buy. I think if anyone wants more obscure characters from Mirage, they should be Convention exclusives or something with a limited release. |

Then, that's different. Quote:
Sure, *anything* is possible, but very little is probable. Neca's good for pumping out exclusives thus far, since everything's been repaints/repackaging of the turtles... with the exception of the Mouser 3-pack, which I see as a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it's technically new product. It also means there's a mold for the Mousers, which could be proof that April has also gotten to that stage. Once a mold is made, it's certain to get a release... all the expensive costs have already been incurred. On the other hand, I heard a rumor from a friend at San Diego that we shouldn't get our hopes up for open-jaw mousers... the mold made for San Diego *might* be the one used for the April pack... or the opening mouth may have been a cost-prohibitve in case they never get around to producing that April. Like I said... nothing is guaranteed. For all our sakes, I really hope sales remain as high for the Foot Wave as the first. I realy want more of this stuff! |
I don't thinku have to worry them bring out Shredder, Foot Soldiers, and Elite Guards is a very smart business move.
And even smarter is the using of the same body parts to cut down on cost, even if I personally don't like it. |
I would say that the TMNT, Splinter, April, Shredder, Bebop, Rocksteady, and Krang are smart sales bets for OT, but I would be very, VERY surprised (but pleased aand speaking with my wallet) to see it go further than that.
