New Paleo Patrol Mini? Leo vs Raptor
Okay, I was just at Family Dollar to get some candy (there's one a couple blocks from my house, and a small one at that), and I saw this "new" Mini Turtle collected big box figure... basically it was the mini Leonardo with, what I'm guessing, is a reused Dinosaur from the regular sized Paleo line.
Now, usually I'd say, "oh boy, here comes Playmates being playmates" but it caught my eye for 2 reasons... It was, ironically, cheaper than the regular mini-mutant line (by a buck, actually), and I was going to get the Paleo minis eventually, but I have a thing about toy bugs. This thing looks like something TRU would overprice, but it was only 5 bucks.... |
|
We don't have Family Dollars in this part of the US... I wonder if there's any chance of it coming to any other stores....
|
Hmmmmm...that was the only one they had though? How many did they have? Did you buy it?

2)Tons of them. I'd say at least over 10 at a very low estimate 3)Are you nuts? I had to take out a loan just to get the candy bar! |

Don't have those, either. |
If I get to Dollar General I'll pick up a couple of them (if I can) and reserve one for you if you need me to, S...

It really is a shame that not all the Turtles come like this. Actually, this is a much better use of the large plastic dinos that were shoved into tha Paleo Patrol line.
They really need to make a paralell TMNT type toy line consisiting of the random characters like this. |
Well, this probably won't be the only one...but maybe they want to see how many Leo vs. Raptor sets they can sell before releasing another one.

Don't worry I was at Dollar General today and picked up six of them, one of which I hung on my wall, the other five of which I am about to list on e-bay for those of you who are interested...

Well they have two watchers, and even if the remaining three sets don't sell, I could always use the Raptors for my army...

But then again, this is basically a repackage of 2 previously released toys, as were the movie TMNT micro-line (released as a bigger set in TRU). So it isn't like they made something specifically new specifically for them. (though, come to think of it, Walgreens had the micro line at one point. I remember getting the micro Foot Soldier there) |
I have two of them left, and when I come into some money I'll be looking for more.

So I got this thing today, and it confirmed what I thought... the Dino was reused from the original Paleo Patrol line. It has 2005 Mirage Studios/Playmates (or whatever) stamped on the dino's tail.
Somehow, I wonder why they didn't think of this before... after all, it is a much better idea than random non-TMNT plastic dinos with random armor stuck to them sitting on the pegs... |

That said, the raptor has a nice little chain on it that can fit quite easily into any mini-turtle's hand. In other words, Leo's got a pet Dino, and New York has strick leash laws... Damn, I wish I had a digital camera... |
Shows how much most of us are paying attention to the site anymore lol
Dan posted this and another new set on the official website. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s-raptor-f.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s-raptor-b.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...lti-pack-f.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...-pack-back.jpg |
I saw those yesterday, but thought to myself that since people see the site anyway, there really wasn't a point in announcing it here.
Oh, how wrong I was. |

I stopped by one of the Family Dollar stores here a few days ago before reading about this set just to see if they had gotten any new toys in and found nothing. But yesterday I went to another and sure enough, found a full case of these. They are $5 each which is a good deal for what was a regular figure plus a mini figure.
If anyone wants a hand getting these sets, drop me a line. |
I just got mine from the Sith Lord CJJ... it is a pretty neat set. I tried taking photos with my new digital camera, but it turns out that it wasn't my old webcam that was crap, but instead the lighting in my apartment. I'll take it to work tomorrow and take pics there, but I can't do that with everything I want to photograph. Anybody know how to get better lighting for photos if your camera doesn't have flash?

It's actually pretty easy and cheap. My set up is as simple some contact paper for a background and a trio of cheap lamps. You want to provide light from all sides equally, and preferably light that isn't too harsh. Buying a better quality bulb such as the GE Reveal light bulbs will make a difference in getting more true to life colors as well. (Try not to mix traditional bulbs and CFL's or other types of bulbs.) The final step is to check the settings on your camera if it has them. In particular look for the white balance settings. Those couple of steps should make a huge difference in the results you get. |

One thing I noticed (which will be apparent once I get the photos uploaded... I forgot to bring the USB cable to work, and I can't find an SD slot on these sodding iMacs....), the Leo of the set has green shoulderpads - the same green as the rest of his skin, so it looks like the spikes on the pads are part of his body! This can't be a painting error, as every version of the figure - including the one pictured on the back - have the same thing. However, every picture I've seen of the standard Mini-Mutants Paleo Patrol Leo has white shoulder pads. Can anyone who has the latter confirm? |
How much was your camera you had before and how much did you spend on the one you just got?

Ummm... yeah. $70 isn't a good price for a camera these days?
Anyway... back on topic... the figures? Anyone have Mini-Mutant Paleo Patrol Leo? Are his shoulderpads white? |

Anyway yes I have him and no mine are not painted at all, go Playmates! Ooooooooooo btw I just got some more news from my insider friend, this one is about the cartoon. So keep an eye out for that juicy info in the new toon section. The fans, they aint gonna none to happy.(in OT Leatherhead voice) |

The S: Before I got the camera I use now, I also used to have a digital camera that lacked a flash. I found I got the best results taking photos outside with it, with natural light (just make sure the sun isn't shining directly on what you're taking pictures of)--give that a try.

And why the fruitin' hell does this keep going off-topic?! Okay, through Vaughn's confirmation and the photo of the figure on ninjaturtles.com, it has become apparent that the shoulderpads of Leo are unpainted on the original Mini-Mutants Paleo Patrol Leo, instead of being white like the package shows. Oh joy. I thought the green-padded version was a variant. Y'know, if I get another one of these Leo/Raptor two-packs, though, at least I'll have a reason to keep the Leo around - I'll paint his shoulderpads white... and then maybe mail him to Playmates with a letter saying "This is how you do your job bitches!" |
