My drawings from the 90s.

I've never posted my work in fan works before because I haven't done any TMNT-related work in years. But I was looking through some of my old drawings and thought I'd post some here just for the hell of it. My age ranges from 12 to 17 on all these drawings.

http://i36.tinypic.com/30ataip.jpg
1990, 1992- copies of the cover of Mirage #22 I believe?

http://i36.tinypic.com/242scja.jpg
1995- based on the OT episode "Shredderville". There are some crazy elastic buildings in this one.

http://i37.tinypic.com/etgykg.jpg
1993- based on the "Future Turtles" from the Archie comics. Why Raph is committing suicide, I don't know. And disregard the way-off perspective.

http://i35.tinypic.com/5y6hw0.jpg
1994- "Invasion of the Krangazoids" homage.

http://i33.tinypic.com/211mhb9.jpg
1990- weird-eyed anime-ish April.

http://i38.tinypic.com/jayqu0.jpg
1992- gang of random tmnt characters.

http://i36.tinypic.com/2l9shv6.jpg
1992- Turtles and Leatherhead.

http://i35.tinypic.com/2w4ctbt.jpg
1990- Casey Jones action figure.

http://i38.tinypic.com/161ibg9.jpg
1990- and the worst of the batch- Slash sketch.

Jester 10-14-2008 09:50 PM

Those are very good. I especially love the Future Turtle skectch

Who didn't see that coming.

The random group shot is also great.

I disagree about Slash, I think that bizarre April is the worst.

Roseangelo 10-14-2008 09:56 PM

You know, I think I still have a copy of an old VHS cover that your drew somewhere.

Edit: Oh! It must have loaded last on my computer, but that second drawing is the one I'm thinking of. I do think I still have a copy.

Ninjinister 10-14-2008 10:29 PM

Sweet merciful God! Most of your old work is better than anything I could hope to do even today <.< I envy you.

MadPirateBunny 10-14-2008 11:16 PM

these are cool! Think I like the one in '93 best

Thanks..I wish I had kept drawing over the years..but I'm beginning to get motivated to start once again. Jester, I just think Slash's feet are too flat. Rose, I did do vhs covers long ago..I don't think I used that above image though. Here is one example:

Roseangelo 10-14-2008 11:52 PM

Nope, I don't think that's it. I'm pretty sure what I had was in color.

But I can't seem to find any of my old TMNT-L days stuff. I don't think I would have tossed it all? Hmmm. :ohwell:

Eiko 10-15-2008 01:07 AM

Wow pretty good drawings you have done there. :)

Your drawings are awesome! And I love the way you colored them.

Rose,
These may be what you're talking about. I drew these long ago when I had vhs tapes:
http://i35.tinypic.com/33dz6vt.jpg http://i37.tinypic.com/2cf2q9i.jpg
http://i38.tinypic.com/13zmiwx.jpg http://i33.tinypic.com/9atzt1.jpg
In retrospect, the text placement and color is really bad on some of these..so hard to read.

Thanks for the comments. Here are a few more of my drawings from the '90s:
http://i35.tinypic.com/dmrvyr.jpg
1993- TMNT #6 cover.

http://i35.tinypic.com/2vmhlar.jpg
1995- Star Trek TMNT. Way to go with the anatomy..

http://i35.tinypic.com/2uxzad1.jpg
1994- Leonardo and Karai. Either Leo's a giant, or Karai's a midget. Perspective much?

 Too fun! Donny as Spock! He would have made a good Scotty, too. ^_^

Ninjinister 10-16-2008 09:44 AM

That Triceraton is mondo superioroso! I crapped a brick when I saw it!

These drawings rock!

These drawings rock! But who's the girl in that Star Trek spacecraft?

But the TMNT wear colored bandanas. I know it's your drawing so you decide, but is it based on some TMNT story?

Considering it's original Trek, that's more likely to be April as one of Majel Roddenberry's characters (Number One from the 1st pilot ep "The Cage", or Nurse Christine Chapel) rather than The Next Generation's Deanna Troi.

Maybe one of Donny's dreams? :P

Can you please upload some more? I love it!

cowabunga14 10-16-2008 06:34 PM

Nice works! Let's see some more.

MrPliggins 10-16-2008 10:05 PM

The girl in the Star Trek image actually is a Mirage-inspired April. I know it's weird that the Turtles have colored bandannas with a Mirage April, but I don't think I thought that deep about it at the time....though I think it's weirder that they actually have hair. I based that drawing directly off of the Star Trek TMNT action figures released at the time.

Here are a few more drawings I had floating around my hard drive....I'll have to do another scan session sometime..

http://i38.tinypic.com/34e40g2.jpg
1991 or 1992- Where's TMNT? Based on the Where's Waldo? idea..I think I actually hid Waldo in here somewhere...

http://i37.tinypic.com/4tw0tv.jpg
1993- Michelangelo from the OT episode where he has a pet pigeon.

http://i38.tinypic.com/261zy2x.jpg
1991- Turtles on rooftop. Again with the super-terrible anatomy and perspective. Sheesh! In my defense, I was only 13.

http://i34.tinypic.com/15xok0i.jpg
1994- Based on A.C. Farley's awesome City at War conclusion cover. Unfortunately the scan is messed up on the bottom right corner.

Original TMNT Cartoon Fan 10-17-2008 05:33 AM

I love it

I love it. Can any other person please also upload drawings like those (not "sexy" drawings, I hate them).

MrPliggins 12-18-2008 08:24 PM

I found a few more old drawings from '93:

Is that O.M.N.U.S. he is holding? :-D

The mouth on the pizza monster on the left of the first pic makes him look like Violator. I love it :-)

It's Z...Baxter's computer/the space ship from Return of the Fly and Son of the Return of the Fly

Gotta say that I'm really impressed. Your coloring style is very rich and you have a good knack for copying the style of the various universes! I love forward to your recent "motivated" work!

Evenstar227 12-18-2008 10:03 PM

Awesome!!!

"Please sir, may we have another?" ;)

Ryona 12-19-2008 08:00 AM

Duuuude, if you were that awesome an artist back then, you must be killer now.

I'm totally getting a kick out of your art, and looking at them makes me look back to my past as a kid with all the drawings I had made.

You got talent and skill. Don't take your born abilities for granted. Keep at it!

mmmh.. Looking at all that oldschool goodness has got me feeling nostalgic. Reminds me how bloody sweet oldschool TMNT is.

MrPliggins 12-19-2008 05:35 PM

I never knew the computer's name was "Z"...but yeah, that's him.
Ryona...I still do art (in fact it's my career), it's only TMNT that I haven't done in years.
Thanks for the comments, guys. I may post more in the future, if I can find some good ones.

I love it, with a lot of small details making it look better, like the splashing water.

Nickokapo 01-11-2009 07:44 PM

Those are amazing :D they're very nicely colored and detailed i think, even if you sometimes comment on the anatomy or perspective of them, i can still tell you had a sense of anatomy and perspective even at that age, my drawings don't look half as good as many of these, let alone the ones i did at your age :o What i get a kick out of the most is seeing those old tmnt cartoon moments in this style :D brings back memories...i would really like to see some of your recent art, even tho i don't suppose you draw the turtles anymore :)

Roseangelo 12-14-2009 02:37 AM

Ok, I realize this is an old thread and a little odd to bump it, but I just found the printouts I thought I had (along with some other things from the old days):

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...elo/jared2.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...elo/jared1.jpg

Nothing new since MrPliggins posted both of these, but still fun to find. :)

Aww, these are pretty neat! I wish Lionsgate would have gone the route of making season appropriate DVD covers!

I'd see to see some of MrPliggins more modern work.:)

I thought it was supposed to be April AS Deanna Troy...but if you look at NECA's April figure, *she* actually looks more like Dr. Beverly Crusher...

MrPliggins 04-14-2013 08:08 PM

Sorry to bump this 4 and a half year old thread, but why make a new one? I found some more of my old Turtles drawings:

I think this one was based off of TMNT 2: The Arcade Game
Probably drew it in '89 or '90:
http://i45.tinypic.com/5215iw.jpg

I filled a lot of sketch books with drawings like this in the late '80s/early '90s:
http://i49.tinypic.com/51o804.jpg

Here are a couple from 2005ish:
http://i48.tinypic.com/2e54in9.jpg

http://i45.tinypic.com/21l8gw3.jpg

And here is a 3d Turtle I did around 2001. Looks pretty dated compared to 3d today.

Refractive Reflections 04-14-2013 10:38 PM

Hey, don't apologize for bumping this thread! It gives us newbies a chance to see your cool work before we joined! :D

I gotta say your late 80s/early 90s drawings of the Turtles is FAR better than I could draw as an adult today! LOL

The color transitioning and shading is impressive! Adds a lot of depth to the images!

Cool stuff! :D

BubblyShell22 04-15-2013 07:49 AM

Dude, all of your drawings kick a**. You really are talented, and your old work proves that. Keep it up.

MrPliggins 04-15-2013 08:10 AM

Thank you for the kind words! Here is another I found, drawn in 1993. I believe it's referencing the episode "Bye Bye Fly". Apparently I started to ink it, but never finished.
His hands are freakishly small while his sword is humongous!

cartoonistaaron 04-15-2013 09:04 AM

Nice stuff! I still have some of my 20+ year old drawings (now I feel old) but I would never scan them let alone post them... Too embarrassing!! But I admire your bravery!

BubblyShell22 04-15-2013 04:31 PM

Awesome drawing there, Mr. Pliggins. Keep them coming. You rock.

Gwydion 04-15-2013 06:47 PM

These are great, man! Love all the vhs covers, but my favorite has to be the one with the Triceraton! Cool stuff - hope to see more in the future!
