VOTING!!! -- TMNT Custom Contest (Mark III)

After six weeks of waiting, it's finally voting time for the Technodrome Forums TMNT Custom Contest (Mark III)! Examine all the entries (due to the forum's limitations on the number of images per post, I split the submissions into two postings, so make sure you scroll down to see them all), then pick the one you think is the best and hit the "vote now" button--that's all there is to it. Good luck to all the participants and may the best custom win!

Important points to remember:

1. Any and all registered members of the Technodrome Forums are entitled to one vote each, including contest participants.

2. Contest participants may respond to question/comments about their customs in this voting thread, but, in doing so, they MAY NOT post any additional photos of, or links to, their custom works. If you're going to win, you have to do it solely on the merits of the entry image you submitted to me below.

3. The poll will be open for one week from the time it was posted. Whomever has the majority of the votes at the end of that time period will be declared the winner. In the event of a tie, I'll perform a tie breaker decision via random chance (die roll, coin toss, etc).

4. Any participant caught cheating and/or unfairly influencing the voting process will be disqualified and ejected from the contest.

Spitfire 10-30-2008 03:23 PM

I was gonna vote for Touch and Go but the Punk Attack Wagon wins for creativity and good execution.

Ryona 10-30-2008 03:45 PM

Love the Punk Attack Wagon! It's totally squeal!
It's something I would have loved to have seen in the series.
As Spitfire said, it's totally creative. Love the design and features.

Runner-up, I'd say is the Wolverine turtle. Not only does it look great, but it also reminds me of an old drawing Kevin and/or Peter had drawn back in the mid 80s of a group of TMNT in Marvel superhero attire.

I believe this was the exact thing Archon was going for.

I voted for Touch & Go. It was a close one for me between many entries, but I had to go with them.

Buffy 10-30-2008 05:02 PM

Such great entries, it was hard to choose but I eventually voted for Patraw's figures.

I agree with Ryona (never thought I'd say that...:D Love you...) and Spitfire. The Punk Attack Wagon FTW.

But it was tough. I always love Patraw's customs, Touch and Go as well as Karai, the Foot, and Bishop look really cool, and I also love Krang's Body, but this was just so...":o WTH!? *2x take*" that it gets my vote. Really clever and well executed.

VaughnMichael 10-30-2008 05:38 PM

As cool at that punk wagon is Touch & Go got my vote.

Hero 10-30-2008 06:09 PM

Were Touch and Go customised from some WWE figures by any chance?

I am loving all these entries. You customisers should give yourselves a pat on the back.

TurtleManiac 10-30-2008 06:16 PM

these are all great!!! the krang android body, scratch&friends, and the punk attack wagon seem to have had the most work put into them, so ill probably be voting for one of those, havent made up my mind yet. the stump turtles look cool too because of the old school tmnt figures. i wish i would have been able to enter but had no new customs planned out so maybe next time if theres ever another contest. i just been working on updating some of the exisiting one i have, heres an updated toon irma that i have removed the stupid backpack and extra sweater it came with and made the upper body clothing into a one-piece sweater, and also an updated toon rocksteady that i added more armor to and gave him a sleeveless shirt rather than a small tanktop. i kno its not part of the contest but just wanted to share them somewhere without having to make a new thread. here they are

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3009/...97865c.jpg?v=0

my next custom will be metalhead with fully-functional chest-gun like he has in the show/game.

cowabunga14 10-30-2008 07:06 PM

Hard choice to make, but I went with the Punk Attack Wagon. I am impressed with all the entries.

BigApple3AM 10-30-2008 11:48 PM

Krang's Body - Very cool, head looks a little thick/big but otherwise nicely done. Where's krang though?

Archie - These are great. Paint is iffy on a few, but I especially love the leatherhead.

Wolverine - Combines two of the greatest characters ever. Cigar is not a nice touch, it's the best touch ever.

Diorama - Great backdrop for the NECA figures. Starlee looks like a production figure. (Take that however you want to... kidding)

Joe TMNT - These are awesome. I always love joe customs, especially TMNT ones. If you're interested I have a link to a store that sells custom joe sculpts including a casey jones head.

Patraw - Wow dude. This is some of your best stuff so far. Scratch is great, his neck seems a little long but overall he's awesome. The beetle guy is neat too. But dude that buzzrok is INSANE. He's perfect and makes the one we got look like a happy meal toy! I can't wait to see your future figures!

Touch and go - I have no idea who these guys are but the paint job is nice. Love the spawn alley backdrop.

Nightmare Raph - Simple but effective. Regular raph's head seems a little big, have you tried fast forward raph's head? It would look more proportionate and then maybe shredder's helmet would fit. Reminds me of the image series when Raph became shredder, although I imagine most of these customs I have no idea who the characters are come from the new toon which I haven't watched in a long while.

Punk Wagon - Wow. This is simply incredible. I don't know what to say. Can I buy it? If not can you give me the recipe? Great great work.

Who I vote for: It's tough. I love Patraw's stuff but I voted for him the past couple times. The punk wagon really grabs my eye, so I guess I'm going to vote for that one.

Great work everyone!

Cipher 10-30-2008 11:53 PM

I don't think I've ever posted in the toy section (haven't touched 'em since I was a tot), but these were too cool. I really, really liked every entry. Very quality.

It came down to a very tough choice between Krang's body, Touch and Go, Patraw's entry, and the Punk Wagon, but honestly, the Punk Wagon was just too flippin' cool to not vote for, and feels like something the old toyline would have, and should have included. Super professional.

Haven't thought of using Fast Forward Raph, and to be honest, at the time, I didn't have access to a spare FF Raph at the time. It seems like it might have been worth a try. Anyway, this is my first attempt at customizing, so I didn't want to do anything overly extravagant. As for the helmet, it was actually a standard Shredder I used, so the head is being used for something else (and thus no helmet to fit over the head).

And this is based on something from the new 'toon, just as the Touch & Go figures you were unaware of.

CudleyCowlick 10-31-2008 02:45 AM

I am still trying to catch my breath after the Punk Wagon took it away.
Well done, chief!

Patraw 10-31-2008 10:17 AM

Let's all observe a moment of silence for all of those brave toys that "gave" their plastic lives to make these customs possible.

I had a tougher time deciding whom to vote for in this contest, compared to past ones--their really is some excellent stuff exhibited here. That said, my vote went to raven6859's Mr. Touch & Mr. Go figures. I felt this entry was the best all-around in terms of execution and presentation, particularly the paintwork. My runner-up picks, in no particular order of preference, would be Archon Turtle, Blade Raider, and ToSte.

Many thanks to everyone who took the time and effort to participate--it wouldn't be possible to have a custom contest like this without you!

DMC362 10-31-2008 02:01 PM

I voted for the punk wagon becuase it reminds of the toys i played with as a kid
How was it made it has a good paint job but seems to molded plastic instead of paint.
I also like the mini figures by patraw and the andoid body also.

IamtheKnight 10-31-2008 04:01 PM

I was gona vote for the 25th anniversary figures but i chose the punk action wagon cause it is the bomb!

raven6859 11-01-2008 04:04 AM

Awesome! It's a tricky one!
I really like the NECA diorama, that's a great idea and so well executed! The G I Joe figures look cool, great likenesses!
Sisyphus, Buzzrock and Scratch are incredible, especially as we've had the opportunity to see the terrifying amount of work that went in to them! Amazing articulation and paint!
Krang's robot body is neat, great idea for a base figure. I look forward to seeing Krang using it in due course!
I like the Stump Wrestling figures, it's always a pleasure to see Archie characters!
The Wolverine Turtle puts me in mind of a wacky piece of art that has sprung to life!
Nightmare Raph is cool, very clean, I'm particularly fond of the episode he appears in!
However, my vote had to go to the Punk Attack Wagon! The paints are very clean and bold, and I'm just a total sucker for a vehicle, especially a character-specific one!

Many thanks for the kind words and votes for my entry, really appreciate it! Praise from Caesar! :tanime:

Hero, Mr. Touch was indeed made from a couple of wrestling figures - an old Shane McMahon provided the body, and the forearms and head come from The Rock!

Patraw, many thanks for organising this!

So how'd Mr. Go come about?

He was made from a Doctor Who Tenth Doctor, with a Peter Parker head, Spider-man right hand, Jurassic Park Alan Grant hat, two Mutant X Bloodstorm ponytails and the cane is from a Star Trek Beverly Crusher Umbrella!

Cheers! :tgrin:

Forgot to mention, these look great! I particularly like the Irma, that's a huge improvement!

shuriken 11-01-2008 04:54 PM

Wow. All of these customs are amazing. I really liked the Krang, Punk Wagon, The Stump Wrestlers...but my vote goes for Patraw with his mini figures. They look so awesom and all that Articulation is just wow. Awesome job to all of you.:D

Patraw 11-04-2008 08:46 AM

Only two more days left till this poll closes, so, if you haven't cast your vote yet, hurry up and do so!

Sure, Casey Jones was meant to be part of wave 1, but the dang parts didn't want to work with me. I think Star Wars Quinlan Vos head fits Casey well, but I wouldn't mind seeing something better and I'm still figuring out his gear (mask included). Also have Splinter almost done, I sadly just need a head. Is the Mini 2k3 Splinter bigger than the Mini Movie Splinter?

Anyways, thanks to everyone that liked them :D

Now for my thoughts:
Krang’s Android Body - Nice. One of the best uses for a wrestler toy I've seen. Does the normal Krang fit in there or does it need a custom Krang?

Archie Stump Wrestling - Awesome. Not sure if it's the lighting or you used gloss paints, but they doesn't seem to photograph well. Bet that they look even better in person. I like the use of the 2k3 shuriken on Leo and the Toy Biz Cyclops fits in very well. Who's the other wrestler made from? Great set you got there :tthumbsu:

Wolverine/Turtle amalgam - So silly that it works. If I liked Wolverine (the character), I'd have more to say. Very well done.

NECA New York Building Diorama and Fast Forward Starlee - No offense meant, but Starlee looks like Cody dressing up for Halloween. That said, the dio rocks! If the NECA figures came with that, I wouldn't be dragging my feet to get them. Such a great job :tthumbsu:

Sisyphus, Buzzrok, & Scratch - Why don't you just open your own toy company already? :P As always, you make great custom figures.

Mr. Touch & Mr. Go - Can't think of much to say as that's one of the episodes I've only seen once. Still, very well done.

Nightmare Raphael - Simple, but simple is sometimes good. I agree with whoever suggested using a FF Raph head. Still well done.

Punk Attack Wagon - Playmates should hire you to make 25th toys. Looks like you've stolen the show with it. Fantastic.

A little *too* Raph 11-05-2008 09:46 PM

Well you could use the krang that came with the mini android figure that was released in 93 or 94 (im sure someone will correct me :) ) but it would be a little too small. I was going to make a custom krang but I ran out of time.

Dragnskull 11-05-2008 11:49 PM

i hate voting in these cause i love them all so much, i hate to dissapoint everyone cause they were all gg submission

but one managed to stand WAY out above the rest...the punk attack bitchin wagon!

Patraw 11-06-2008 09:50 AM

That's all folks--the poll is closed! Thank you to everyone who voted (50 voters is a mighty fine turnout I say), and extra special thanks to everyone who spent the time and energy created custom submissions.

ToSte takes top honors for the second time in a row:

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y19...stwintoste.jpg

Hopefully we can have another TMNT custom contest again somewhere down the road.

Ninjinister 11-06-2008 10:20 AM

This is an outrage. There is no way ToSte should have won. The person I voted for should have. ToSte is going to ruin The Technodrome. I'm going to whine and cry and cuss on internet message boards and pretend that my opinion is more correct than everyone else's. Also, I am prejudiced against everyone who wears a Party Wagon rooftop on their head. One of you people could never lead a toy customizing contest.

***First of Two Latin Kings*** 11-06-2008 11:33 AM

He would not have won had I entered... :P

ToSte 11-07-2008 02:22 PM

LMAO I love the TF pic!

Yes, The S, when it comes to teh 'Drome I am truly the worst thing since Bimbo frosted toast...:fshifty:

Ha! Bimbo frosted ToSte!

Congrats ToSte, well deserved! Also, many thanks again to Patraw for organising this, it was a lotta fun!

thanx, raven6859. at first i just had that toon irma repainted with no physical changes to the figure. but then later on i realized i wasnt fully satisfied with it so i went the extra mile with it!!! took a while to cut off all that excess plastic, it didnt happen in just one sitting. if i had rushed through it i probably would had cuts all over my fingers. btw i like your touch and go figures, even thought im not too familiar with those chatacter but the paint and background blend in really well, plus i also immediately recognized the rock's face as i have that same rock figure with the trash talkin' stage. i used to be into wwf/wwe figures as well.

I suggest getting Kevlar or chain mail gloves. I used to get cuts all over my hands until I bought a pair of Kevlar. Now whenever the blade slips, it just harmlessly hits the glove.

does the gloves get in the way at all/make the process more difficult, or are you still able to freely move your hands and slice/chop as if you had no gloves on?

Ninjinister 11-12-2008 09:09 PM

They take some getting used to at first, but in no time, you'll forget they're even on.
