NECA response from Pete

I asked Pete several questions regarding TMNT and the one I really wanted answered was about the second wave of NECA figures and this was his response.

Peter Laird said...

Here's the gist of a message I just got, minutes ago, from Gary re: the NECA situation:

"NECA have the following ready:

April, Mousers (new sculpt with articulated jaws), Shredder, Foot Soldier, Elite Guard

... plus various re-paints and re-decos based on the colorized comics. They hope to show the line at Toy Fair and try to get enough EU (European Union) interest that they can manufacture these figures."

So I don't know if this really tells us much but I thought I would share with you guys. Lets hope these get made soon.

Articulated mouser jaws was the only really important thing I took from that. :D I guess verifying that NECA is still with us is another thing this news is good for.

Blade Raider 01-28-2009 12:36 PM

That's the first sign of hope I've seen for NECA figures.

Lame. Give me bandana and flesh tone variants already.

Now I want April. Why must she always come with Mousers these days?

Ninjinister 01-28-2009 12:42 PM

This sounds promising! Yayyyy!

There's nothing there that says she comes with the mousers. I know she was initially coming with two mousers, but I had thought they said they were going to make a separate pack of mousers. Sounds like they may be coming through...

I actually hope she does. I need three Aprils, and since she'd come with the Mousers that would be army building win. Then again, as I said before, I think that she should come with them, and then NECA should release a three-pack that has one of the SDCC Mousers, one of the ones with articulated jaws, and one battle damaged one. That would be epic win.

Timmetry 01-28-2009 01:47 PM

I would honestly prefer a two pack with articulated jaws, then the three pack you described. I have two packs of the SDCC mousers, and I don't need anymore that can't open their mouths. As for the battle damaged one, I don't want all my broken mousers to look the same. It would look like only one turtle is fighting, or they are all fighting one mouser at a time... If the battle damage is a mouser with his leg sliced off, then only Leo is fighting? I'd rather make my own battle damage.

I say a two pack, because I think that's what they were planning. The articulated jaw costs more money to make so they can only pack in two in order to keep the price lower or something like that.

StealthNinjaScyther 01-28-2009 03:37 PM

That's reassuring. I was fairly hopeful that the figures would come out eventually, if only for them to recoup the money they already put into them. The long drought of communication had me losing hope.

I am going to be broke.

Kendamu 01-28-2009 03:50 PM

Excellent. Hopefully this means that my Turtles will no longer be forced to battle the forces of nothing.

sdp 01-28-2009 05:47 PM

Nothing put out a good fight.

But aren't ninjas almost invisible?? I think that's what my NECA turtles are fighting at the moment...

Ninjinister 01-28-2009 08:36 PM

So when's Toy Fair?

CyberCubed 01-28-2009 08:40 PM

So is this why Playmates is stopping TMNT toys in 2009? With NECA still releasing stuff Playmates must be PISSED.

IamtheKnight 01-28-2009 08:47 PM

About damn time!

Where did you get that Playmates isn't going to be making TMNT toys in 2009?
They have a big list of toys coming.

Part of me thinks the thought came from the 25th Anniversary Turtles roster possibly being reduced.

I meant after 2009. Isn't the toyline ending the primary reason for the cartoon being cancelled?

Without a toyline, there is no need for a cartoon, and vice versa.

I was told that Playmates will continue after this last season of the Cartoon.

So, you mean Playmates wants to make more TMNT toys, but doesn't want to pay for a show anymore? That's kind of weird... Most toy companies have a 'no show, no go' policy which was Playmates' stance, last I heard.

They kept going with the old toy line even when the old cartoon ended.
The Comic based figures is the wave of the future, and I for one will be a happy camper as long as they make decent toys beyond the 4 turtles in 2009.

Any word if the fire themed, Global Mutants, and Sub-Sewer villains are officially still coming?

Sadly those haven't been mentiond to me at all, I'd like to know myself.
You know Playmates should be at the NYC supporting the TMNT and showing off some offerings of whats coming out to hardcore and random fans, but I don't see that happening.:ohwell:

So they want to continue to make toys for turtles but refuse to help fund the TV series. Man the people who work there are ass backwards. Not that I want the series to continue with how it's going anyways. The poor dog needs to be put down.

It's because the toys they will be making have nothing to do with the cartoon :)
Which for the most part they haven't been doing anyway so I'm fine with Playmates making comic based figures.
They may not be as good as NECA's sculpts but at least we won't have to wait over a year to get 2 series.

CyberCubed 01-29-2009 01:16 PM

Does your interview with Murph shed some more light on Playmates/4kids future with Mirage?

Just curious.

Well I'll say this much when I sent him the questions he said that Playmates has been very picky about what information is given to the public as of late so we shall see.

I am hoping that he can talk about this being the last season of the show.
But it has been said by other Mirage staff and writers at this point even on here by Tristan in the comics section.

junkboy 01-29-2009 02:25 PM

Glad to hear some news from NECA. Looking forward to all of them.
Not very interested with Playmates' line tho.
The only Playmates figures i bought since some years is the first launch line of TMNT 2007 movie figures.

Candy Kappa 01-29-2009 05:08 PM

Shredder is coming to tooown!~

I think I might get religious, wave 2 is coming!

doomiscool 01-29-2009 05:58 PM

I'm excited now! I really want a retro Shredder! My sis got me all the current figures for Christmas, and now wave two is coming, hooray!

Doc_ock_4mugen 01-29-2009 07:31 PM

Whoa! So NECA is possibly going to release Series 2!?

About the Playmates "Comic Book" Turtles... Are they gonna update the figs from what they've shown, or we're getting slightly retooled TMNT (2007) figs?
I'd wish that Playmates made the Turtles and non-Characters closer to (Toy Biz/Marvel Toys) Marvel Legends Articulation... Or take a hint from MOTU Classics...

Andrew NDB 01-29-2009 08:15 PM

Not too comforting at all, actually. That it's been practically a solid year since they've had these figures designed, done and ready to produce, and they still don't have financing to make them... not good, because I'm sure it hasn't been for lack of them trying to secure funding during all this time.

And apparently the whole second wave is hinging on the hope that NECA will discover financiers in the European Union? Not good at all.

I thought it was just some last minute legal red tape that they'd run into with Playmates. I thought as soon as that would get cleared up, they'd be ready to roll out the Wave 2 within a couple of months.

But this... this will mean another year's wait, if it ever even happens at all.

Nick Kell 01-30-2009 12:50 AM

Any NECA TMNT is good TMNT.

BigApple3AM 01-30-2009 12:54 AM

I should apologize for over reacting when the playmates comic toys news came out. The more I read about what's going on, the more confused I am by NECA. They don't contact anyone, and when they finally due it's some weird excuse. C'mon these toys look unfreakinbelievable, let me buuuuuy them.

A fart after months of radio silence is better than if the silence remained, no?

Wes 01-30-2009 04:30 AM

Wait, does this mean I'll get another chance to buy the NECA Turtles? *does a little dance of anticipation*

Chrissie Terrapin 01-30-2009 06:07 AM

this is great news, they aint dead

Not a damn thing, so I don't see the point in wondering why they would continue if there was or wasn't a tv show.:D
