Current cartoon meets old cartoon?
This is third hand information, from a friend of a friend who had spoken to Michele Ivey who apparently had inside information about it, so I don't know how reliable it is. It may even be old news.
What's this I've heard about a couple of episodes being commissioned that have the current/Back to the Sewers TMNT meeting/teaming up with (possibly even confronting) the original/Fred Wolf cartoon TMNT? Anyone know? |
Last I had heard, that was still scuttlebutt.
|
Ditto, and the more I think about it the more I wonder if I'd enjoy it, you know?
|
I don't think it'll actually happen.
None of the old toon VA's said anything about reprising their roles as the TMNT, and if they bring back the old toon Turtles WITHOUT their original voices...it will be a disaster. |

mmm, I'd be leary of a project like this. Only because it has the potencial to be to have to much camp. If they did pull something like this, I would be cautiously optimistic. :ohwell:
|
hopefully that won't happen

Fan fiction on the Internet
There are already much fan fiction on the Internet about two TMNT versions meeting each other.

Does have a ring of "Back to Alvin's Future" (the best Chipmunks go to the Movies episode) doesn't it? |

You say there's no new season of TMNT coming per your source, but 4KIDS says The Shredder Wars. Two more episodes confirm there are no Shredder wars (let alone seeing a 30 minute episode flesh everything out.) So now I wonder how the Shredder Wars will be told. |

APPARENTLY, as of last year at least, there's supposed to be some dimensional slip that lets the old characters meet the new characters. At least Shredder was confirmed from the old show, as well as a possibility of one or two un-expected ones.. This is the thing that concerns me the most, though..Is that my source claimed that the 4Kids voice actors where auditioned first in order to try and re-create the original series voice actors sound. I understand there are union rules and all that (4kids guys are non union, old guys union)...but come on. What's the point of it if you don't get EVERYONE back? |

I'm going to say it one last time orig. my source told me this was it. Now I've spoken with Dan over at the official site he also confirms this is it. And if you look HERE in the comics section Tristan who works with Mirage also confirms it. I don't know how much more insider comments you want, but if it's 4kids your after to say something you're sadly gunning for the wrong man. You can also take this or leave this if you like but I was also told that 4kids is holding out on more than just 2 episodes, but I've said this before. Perhaps 4kids can come on here and confirm or deny this. |

but you know every one wants the complete set. ;)
so lets see...wedding for Casey and April...Shredder Wars...cross over between demensions...looks like we're looking at balls out mayham for the DTV movie. 8) It looks like we don't know what to expect. The only garanteed that I can see, is that no matter what, people are going to find something to bitch about. :| |

I still think this would be funny as a brief gag or a 20 minute episode, not a DTV film. Once again, as long as it's not 90 minutes of inside jokes and fan service, it should be something great. |

I wonder how they would set it up, if they don't use the Battle Nexus?
I picture it as something like this, if only because I got into the old toon first.. During the introduction credits, show all new animation of Shredder and Krang getting defeated time and time again by the turtles.... After the credits are over, Shredder is creating a new portal device with Krang, that can seek out powerful adversaries from multi-dimensional universes to try and help him defeat the turtles. After the device goes awry, thanks to a slip up by B and R, they get more than they bargained for with not only more turtles coming into their universe, but also more villains as well...such as Chrell and Demon Shredder.. |
I think it will be pretty disgusting if the old toon Turtles appear and its not their original voices reprising their roles.
This sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. This is the bullcrap we have to put up with the for the 25th anniversary? Its not like the old toon voices are dead or anything, why the hell can't they do the extra mile to let them reprise their roles? Is Mirage and/or 4kids this cheap? Absolutely pitiful. |

I was just curious rather how things would play out since your sources say what they do, and 4Kids says what he says. |

If its not a true crossover, then I don't want to see it. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, comes close to the voices of the original Turtles, Shredder and Krang.
You don't "bring back our childhood" and then do it half-assed. If Mirage/4kids cannot go the extra mile to hire the old toon voices of the Turtles, Splinter, Shredder and Krang again (Bebop and Rocksteady were done by Don and Leo's voice actors, so its two less people to find), then they might as well not do it at all. I think the other funny thing is if this is the DTV, then how will the current cartoon get a proper ending? |
I have a theory... these mysterious extra episodes that Vaughn has made reference to... they could have been made by 4Kids because the status of the series' continuation was in doubt, so they produced them to act as a way to wrap everything up in the event that the series didn't continue.

Can you guys please chill till you know some real solid information?
I mean seriously do you guys listen to yourselves some times? Allot of people are sounding extremely ungrateful and quite frankly it's making people feel like doing something like this isn't worth their time or money. Quote:
They say what they do because one sides got a grip on reality and the other is saying what they do because they don't want to offend anyone. Dan doesn't want to post anything on the official site he says at it might upset people they are currently still working with or ones they may work with again down the road. |
To be fair, "At this time," has an entirely different meaning than, "Yes."

Quick plug, Tales #55 is meant to be out next week. It's a look at how things were before the Turtles took on the Shredder. I suggest everyone get down to a comic shop and get it! |
I thought the "Old Toon meets New Toon" had been strongly hinted from square one. Laird had a quote about the DTV being sure to "please both old and new fans."
|
Not completely. In the 2003 version, there's no Vernon, no Irma, no Burne Thompson, no Bebop and no Rocksteady.
|
He was talking about the Direct To Video project being worked on for the 25th anniversary, not the 2003 cartoon. I know you're new and all, but you don't have to act like it. :P[/teasing]

I really can't see how the turtles from new and old would mix... They'd have to either tone down the BTTS turtles or make the 80's turtles more bad-ass. Think about it... due to all the slapstick comedy and such the 80's turtles are just.... wimps that hardly fight. Cyber Shredder isn't going to be taken down by a pizza thrown to his face, a rug being pulled out from under him, Leo cutting down a flag or whatever to cover his face, and a couple of one-liners from Raph. Even the Purple Dragons would totally waste the 80's Turtles.... and the BTTS turtles would make lunchmeat out of 80's Shredder, Bebop and Rocksteady....
And then... well... toning down the BBTS Turtles or making the 80's Turtles more bad-ass... well it wouldn't be them anymore. |

IT'd be a bit weird, but oh well....I'd be happy to have all the old voices back and seeing the Technodrome in action again if it can be fit in at all :). |
Crap... Now I'm hoping someone photo-shops Cyber Shredder with a slice of Pizza splattered on his face....
|
Hm...sounds weird, but since it's Turtles I'll give it a shot! My impressions of the DTV "pleasing both old and new fans" were perhaps the story would be in context to the old show with the old characters, but the animations would be done using either the 2K3 style or the BTTS style. Either way, I never thought the powers that be would actually meld the two styles in one production.
Oh, and Rob Paulsen is still very active on television. He regularly does voicework for Nickelodeon toons, like Peck the Rooster in "Back at the Barnyard", and the fat kid on Jimmy Neutron, among many others. He has a pretty distinct voice that is hard to miss. :) |
Funny you should mention Back to the Barnyard, since Cam Clarke as well does voicework for the show, so getting them both shouldn't be THAT hard. Both are still very much active VAs.
|
I'd like to see a DTV movie more like the first comic... in the style of the turtles and what not but it could be interesting to see the original meet the new. I agree with the prospect of not having the original cast voicing the charcters would be weird. Im just happy were getting something that could potentially be cool.
|
On the matter of voice actors, my thoughts are Liongate got all four of the Turtles', Shredder's, and Krang's voice actors for simple extras. Why can't 4kids?
That said, I don't mind if they can't get the original actors as long as they try to first. Case in point: Transformers Animated has a new Waspinator in it. They tried their damnest to get Scott McNeil to repirse his role (going further than I'd even ask them to go), but they just couldn't do it in time. While I miss that Scott McNeil wasn't Waspinator, it's much easier to accept just knowing they tried (And knowing is half the battle!). Anyways, I still assume the DTV movie is the Shredder Wars and the crossover idea is just fans overactive imagination (Though if it was done right, I'd love it to happen). |
