The section is new TMNT discussion of the NEW show....Not next mutation.... |
yeah... this should be under General TMNT Discussion, but I liked the next mutation as well. So many people have damned it, but I grew a liking to it, though I can see the MANY bad points to display. It was still a good show nonetheless.
|
I never really watched TNM I only saw a couple of episodes but I do remember not hating......And thinking a female turtle kicked ass!!!!!!!!!!!
|
i downloaded the first 5 eps edited version off of kazaalite. The show sucks. I still hate it. The only reason i even downloaded it is because as much as i don't want it to be it is still part of TMNT history. Venus also sucked.
|
i happened to like it too :D
but its just like TMNT3, everyone bashes it. of the 3 TMNT movies, my favorite from top to bottom are TMNT1 TMNT2 TMNT3 lol pretty weird huh? the movie wasnt all that bad so stop dissing it  |
I agree this is the wrong section for this topic. However, I dont have the power to move it, so I wrote my reply here. Its in the right section now, so everyones happy. I dont see how people really hate it. Venus wasnt that bad. She was the fish out of water when with the other fish out of water. She belonged with the other turtles, she just didnt fit in. Thats what made her unique. And it was otherwise the same as the first cartoon. It was the cartoon brought to life. And I loved the costumes. They rocked my socks. I want one so badly. Anyone know where I could steal...i mean buy or borrow of course!

I never saw the show, bit the toys are awesome IMO. I especially like that Dragon Lord character.
|
The show's a little dark, (I guess I was expecting something along the goofy lines of the old toons) and the way the Turtles fight/move is just slow and awkward (due to the bulky costume)...so I'm not a big fan either.
The toys are great! Got myself a Mikey and Raph from that line. Sadly, I should have picked up a Venus instead, especially because the chance of another Venus figure is close to 0 since she's been wiped from memory. :( |

I agree with the costume part, the bandanas and bandages around the knees / ankles...those are just strange. |
I was just commenting on the fact that their bandanas not only covered their eyes but also their heads (covering the top of a head like a do rag). That was the dumbest idea for a costume ever.

And the Venus being baby blue thing? We have a blue bandana already, of all the colours possibile, why baby blue? |

Good thing that's scrap and done with.
I guess they picked baby blue so it'll attract the gals while the fan boys won't find it too feminine to buy the figure...if they choose something like pink, the fig. might not sold as well??? But then again, Donatello's purple - and purple can be a boy / girl colour too - so my bet's just that the producers made a bad decision or the director is a big fan of baby-blue. |
Ooh, so many things to reply to...
Well, I liked the show. I loved the campiness of it all. Not my favorite universe, but I see the potential in it. I'm even working on an "ultimate" comic version the the idea. Let's see: Loved the costumes. I liked that they all now had very different looks with their gear. But honestly, I was way too busy looking at the muscles and skin to notice the clothing much. Man, they were hot! With baby blue, I think they were going for feminine without crossing the line of sexist. If she'd had a pink or yellow, I think it'd be a bit too girly and stereotyped for a female character, the way the yellow and pink Power Rangers are usually girls. Besides, she's not a "pink" character, she's a toned-down Leo-type, which makes the baby blue appropriate. |
In response to the complaint of the bandannas being on the top of their heads as well, I'd like to state that in at least one issue they had bandannas like this. Issue No. 9 of Eastman and Laird's they have them like that. Its the only original that I own, and they have them covering the top of their heads.

One thing I didn't like about the Next Mutation is that they used Dragonlord (or whatever he was called) instead of Shredder and the footsoldiers who were much cooler but were only used in the first episodes. The rivalry between Shredder and Splinter was one of the coolest parts of the cartoon.
The suits took some getting used to since I was used to seeing the movie versions and a lot of the time in the episodes you could see the eyeholes of the stunt guys underneath the bandanas which was really distracting. I noticed that they changed Raph's character a bit. In the cartoon he was always being sarcastic and stuff but in the TNM he always seemed to be kind of moody and scrapping with Leo all the time. He always used to go off by himself too even the TNM ads said he was "Raph the rebel". One big let down was the fight scenes which had nasty sound effects and were too slow and clunky. It would have been cool if Saban used some wire stunts for the Turtles (i.e Matrix type stuff) which he used in newer seasons of Power Rangers. It would have so cool to have a big huge live action fight between the Turtles and Shredder at the end or something. A romance between Venus and Leo would have been a nice twist too since they hinted at that for a while. |
Well Raph was fine in my book. He always was a rebel to me, I always thought it was the first cartoon that got it wrong. And as for wire fights......1997 much? That stuff was widely used as it is now. It was mostly, not I said mostly, introduced with the Matrix, 99
