Future Raph custom.

Hey guys! I really tried hard to emulate Chris Allan's Archie style in this one, from the facial sculpt to even the type of hatching he uses for shading. I just wanted him to stand apart from his Mirage counterparts. Let me know what you guys think.

It looks really great. The head sculpt looks good. I like your detail on the shell too. It just looks really great. Good job. Keep making customs.

Candy Kappa 07-08-2009 04:36 AM

That's an awesome custom

A little *too* Raph 07-08-2009 06:47 AM

thats sweet man... any plans for a future don?

Ninjinister 07-08-2009 07:42 AM

Holy f....

That's amazing!

Bigfoot 07-08-2009 08:16 AM

That is super awesome...

I like the shading and the way you used the black hatch marks.

Did you custom make the hat, belt, and plastron? With what?

Oh yeah, and if this is Raph, why does he have katanas?

tmntgoldcoin 07-08-2009 08:52 AM

props to you. Love the hat.

NightwatchersOnlygirl 07-08-2009 09:19 AM

I like it cos it's Raphael

Patraw 07-08-2009 09:31 AM

I think you captured the comic book look pretty well. The black lines are problematic in some places (too thick, and obviously "drawn" on)--but I think customizers in general have a tough time emulating NECA's comic book aesthetic in that respect. It also looks like there's one stray drop of red paint, underneath the bandana, in the back-view photo.

Lordmylar06 07-08-2009 11:17 AM

Thanks all!

A little *too* Raph-Right now big plans for future Mike and Don, just gotta win some loose ones on ebay to get started. Plus i figure jackey and coat sleeves are going to be tough on a NECA base.

Bigfoot-Hat, belt, plastron and shoulders:
I used this stuff called milliput, it works alot like apoxie, but i prefer it to apoxie, it just seems a bit more manageable. In the fist future turtles story arc Raph carries Leos swords. There's even this cool scene where he and current Raph are looking for Leo in the super far future (Armaggon snags him) and Current Raph fins current Leos swords and puts them in his belt. He and F. Raph look very similar and they speak in stereo about how they should hurry!

Patraw- Good call on the paint drip, fixing that, and as far as the hatching goes, I think I'm going to try finding a finer line brush, I just had a really clumsy tip so next trip to hobby lobby is going to be a mission.

If we're getting picky, there's also a spot of green on his right sheath.

DMC362 07-08-2009 01:45 PM

very cool and nice to look at can't wait for the others you have planned

I like it a lot, you obviously went for Future Shark look with those katanas. Also great job on face, I didn't go that far, but you managed to do him closer to Archiestyle.

Mike and Don? Nice, I have Mike, Don, Leo and Slash started, but you're certainly right about those sleeves. I think they'd need fabric coats and jackets, but I haven't had time to search/do those myself.

I was thinking of something plastic for the sleeves so I would be able to paint over them. I may have to do an 'arm swap' with some other figure that has sleeves, then a hand swap with the neca hands. The rest of the coat would probably be sculpted on. How is your Don coming along? I remember seeing really early pics. For his staff I was thinking ML Moon Knight's staff or DC Classics Deathstroke the Terminator's staff since they're segmented looking like his was.

**weeps at the beauty of this custom**

If those NECA Turtles had originally had headsculpts like this, I would've been all over them! This truly is a thing of beauty.

Did you sculpt over the original head, or transplant a head from another figure onto this body? The arms and legs look a bit different to me, too...

The Neca head was sculpted onto. i used milliput(highly recommend this stuff to you, works like apoxie yet easier to sculpt-found at hobbly lobby). I did indeed beef up the shoulders and arms with the same stuff. I had to dremel the shell back a little, which was fine because C. Allan always drew them with a slight curve around the neck and arms. Also, I have to say the NECA figures are my favorite of all my TMNT figures. They're more in scale with most of my other action figures and the detail and accuracy are top notch.

see its stuff like this that has me googling hobby stores near me.. ive been dying to start customizing for far too long. excellent work.

Oh, he's finished, except for the coat, since I plan doing it from some sort of fabric. I made his staff from cocktailstick which I sculpted a bit and painted metallic, I'll show it after I get camera again...
