Michelangleos Weapon
Did he quit using the nunchakus? You never see him with them in the old series other then the first few eps. He always has that grappling hook but what kind of a weapon is that?
|
There is already a thread about this.
|
Yes, there already is a thread about this. But it's buried deep in the forum archives, and it's not worth the time looking for it. Therefore, I will answer this question.
Sometime during the fourth season, 1990, the parents got involved with the show, saying that Michaelangelo using a weapon such as the nunchukus was too violent for children's television. So the chucks were taken away, and a grappling hook was used thereafter. However, and this is something I always liked, the nunchukus didn't disappear completely. Michaelangelo always had them strapped to the back of his belt, even though he never used them. There was even one episode during the fourth season, "Funny, They Shrunk Michaelangelo," where a pint-sized Michaelangelo was using them to fend off a cat. :) I guess you could say the artists were a little stubborn in getting rid of Michaelangelo's chucks completely . . . "Thanks for the totally gnarly ride, dude!" - Michaelangelo, from "Funny, They Shrunk Michaelangelo" |
Well I still can't understand how Katanas and Sais weren't violent. Well It's old news, there is no fear of that happening again.
|
Yeah, I still don't see the logic behind that either. Katana blades and sais are used for slicing and dicing, and nunchukus were used for . . . other things, I guess.
Things have changed since the old cartoon aired. Cartoons are a lot more violent. I don't think anyone will have qualms about Michaelangelo using his chucks again. "I can't tell the good dudes from the bad dudes, dudes." - Michaelangelo, from "Carter, the Enforcer" |
Yeah probably not. I still wonder ehy they didn't bring them back to the red sky episodes. It was more serious and had more action, it would been a perfect time to get them back.
|
Well I guess the creators just didnt think that little kids would notice. Hell I didnt.
Now correct me if Im wrong but didnt Mike use a different weapon in the Next Mutation eps too, thats when everyone really noticed. I think there illegal in some country that featured the show. Are you sure that it was the fourth I heard somewhere somebody said he didnt use them after the second season. And why didnt they just get him another weapon!? You cant exactly fight with a grappling hook. |
Yes, it was the fourth season when they got taken away.
|
did he carry a grappling hook, like was it attached to his belt or did he like pull it out of thin air?
|
I don't remember seeing it on his belt, but im not sure on this one.
|
yea I dont think he wore it on his belt, I think I would have noticed that
|
The artists were very sloppy about this. You would constantly see Mikey's chucks on his shell or him twirling them before a battle and then you would just see him use his grappling hook. Let's just face it... some parents just really suck. I'm pissed at the parents that got Beavis & Butt-head cancelled... that was one of my favorite shows! Stupid parents are also responsible for the lack of weapon usage in TMNT 2 & 3. WILL PARENTS EVER SHUT UP?
|
Probably not. Oh, well. There's always fan-fiction.
|
I have two Nuckchos and I swing them around and think I'm Mickey.
All I need is a Pole, Blade Swords,Sais, turtle Costume and Red,Blue,Orange, & purple bandnates so I can imatate all 4 Turtles. |
don't forget ol' Leatherhead.. I reckon some sharp teeth'll do the trick :) ...

Did he use his nunchucks at all in the 2nd and 3rd movies ?
In Britain they probably would have cut them out back in the early 90's if he did use them so I'm not entirely sure. |
Oddly enough, only Don and Leo ever used their weapons after the first film. The funny part is, LEO CUT SHREDDER!!!! See, that's what has always bothered me about these stupid parents rights people... "Shredder died because of the nunchaku... SO THE NUNCHAKU ARE EVIL!!! BAN THEM NOW!!!!" And, of course, there was also the baptists trying to sue them for using the word "God" in the first film. Silly baptists... Oh, and before anyone flames me, I was a baptist, so I know what I'm talking about...
|
Well the ban of chuckus didn't happen beacuse of the movie. It is true that parents ruined the second TMNT movie, but those are two diffrent things.

I hate bad parents! :(  ! It's because of them and they're lack of being able to take care of their kid properly that so many things are ruined. Not only that, but because of the 9/11 attacks, many shows got edited and some episodes didn't even get aired!!! Also, for the Transfans, they had to lenghten missiles and shorten smokestacks on some of the reissues and they can't even reissue the original Megatron because he turned into a gun! And I too can't see how nunchukus are more violent than swords or sais (even a bo can seem more dangerous because kids will go outside, pick up a stick, and start beating their friends/siblings with it!). Nunchukus seem like the least dangerous! Argh! When will people learn how to take care of their kids!!! And when will people learn not to be so offended. Another thing that really makes me mad is that they edited the movie E.T. When the mom was yelling "no guns! they're only kids!" and when it shows them pointing a gun at Elliot and E.T. they edited out the gun. That was the whole frickin' point of why they were panicking!!! Fortunately with the 2-disc E.T. set they put the edited version for people who can't take real life and the original version for people who can take real life.
btw, them taking out weapons made secret of the ooze funnier :P (Mikey using his "combat coldcuts", Leo using his katanas to swing and hit those guys, and when Raph caught the slice of pizza on his sai!) |
Well that true, the parents have been problem to TMNT in the past, but they still probably toght they were doing the right thing...
|
I'd heard that the nunchucku were banned because they were something kids could more easily make/get their hands on. Now this sounds a bit stupid to me because it would be damn easy to make a bo from a broomstick, dowel, or whatever. Nunchucks don't seem terribly accessible to me.
Of course, I also think people are far more likely to hurt themselves fooling around with nunchucks than with katana, sai, or a bo. If I had to defend myself and I had a choice between the four weapons (and no training), I'd pick the katana or bo as the least likely to hurt me, most likely to hurt my attacker. Of course, who knows what the censors were thinking. I hate people who meddle with good things. |

My friends are probably happy I've never gotten my hands on any weapons...

Here's the problem in a nutshell ( turtle shell? )
Many parents these days are lazy. They can't be bothered to watch their children properly and so rather than moniter what their children watch, play etc they prefer to force the rest of the world to do it for them. And I will also add this.Any child stupid enough to try to recreate any violent scenes shown on cartoons is an idiot and we should let them go ahead and kill themselves so they can't grow up,breed and muddy the gene pool with their moron genes. I know that some say that cartoons should be censored because the characters survive things that would kill a normal person,Kids supposedly view this stuff and think they can copy it since the character came out OK. This is bull.Have these people even watched any cartoons? The Coyote may survive but he always looks like he is in considerable pain. Why would any intelligent child would want to copy this? .What kind of lackwit willingly does things to themselves that they know will result in pain? When I was a kid I had a chance to purchase a pair of Sai.I came very close to buying them but for some reason I didn't. I wanted them,of course because of Raphael.I had no intentions of actually using them.I just thought they'd be cool to have because of their Turtle connection. I had enough sense to realize I couldn't do the things seen in the show. |
"Off to the movies we shall go
Where we learnt everything that we know Couse the movies teach us what our parents don't have time to say!" :D |
It's also a sort of control issue. When parents have kids, they finally have a chance to not be their parents and give their kids everythign they didn't. Yet, in tryig to give these things to their kids, they also take away many of the things that make a kid a kid thus taking away most of the valuable lessons learned during childhood. And now we see a lot of people growing up without the common sense that most of us grew up with, and even more lost while we were growing up. I hate to say it, but I believe that political correctness will be the downfall of this country. Good intentions, placed in the hands of fools, lead to foolish results. I know this from experience, believe me.
