How many of you are still watching the TMNT classic cartoon?

How many of you are still watching the old TMNT classic cartoon?

Kendamu 10-27-2009 01:00 PM

I pop in Season 1 or 2 once in awhile.

plastroncafe 10-27-2009 01:07 PM

Not yet anyway.
Will give it a full rewatch once I'm done re-reading all the Vol 1 Mirage stuff.

GreasyBoi 10-27-2009 01:10 PM

I haven't been able to watch any in the past couple of weeks, but I will in a couple of days when I am done with all of my errands.

Andrew NDB 10-27-2009 01:11 PM

I've tried a few times over the past 2-3 years. Every time, I only get about 6 or 7 episodes into it before I just completely lose interest/get tired of the camp and the schdict. Generally right when the "Hahah! This cartoon was the sh*t back in the day! I remember this!"-type nostalgia wears off.

MrDizzyDEE 10-27-2009 01:14 PM

I pop in a couple of my old tapes on the weekend or youtube em and with a couple of friends.

mikey22 10-27-2009 01:24 PM

still watch um
almost every night now actually-it helps me go to sleep n remember the good ol days.

If I put in some TMNT cartoons for my friends, I'm pretty sure their reaction would go a little bit like, "Hahaha! No, seriously, what are we watching?"

hudemx 10-27-2009 01:29 PM

I watch it every now and then. It was such a big part of my Childhood that I can feel my self from the past... how I watched the toon back in the early 90s and got all the toy around.
I loved to replay the episodes when I was younger with my actionfigures...
I never got any Toy of Krang - even though Krang was my favourit in the Show! So I had to build my own with LEGO or rip the Head of some other figures, paint them pink and just imagined that it was krang:D

I have more of the, "Alright! Kickass!" kind of friends when it comes to TMNT. If I were to bring up the comics or try to show one to a friend they're just like, "Yeah... Where's Bebop and Rocksteady?"

Lieutenant Granitor 10-27-2009 02:00 PM

Once in awhile I order Lionsgate DVDs from Netflix, or watch some episodes on youtube

I feel the same way about that. TMNT helps me relax and loosen up a bit.

TMNT or not, I think most of my friends would be like, "Uhh... comics? You still read comics?" And multiply that sentiment several times over if I were to produce any TMNT cartoons to watch.

Though at least with the comics, I can do the move that's like, "Look, I know what you're thinking... but wait! The TMNT are badass in the comics... and I can prove it..." and then make them look at issues like Vol. 1 #10 and #21. With the cartoons I wouldn't have any ground to stand on.

I can recommend several stool softeners that may have the same effect.

Hero 10-27-2009 02:13 PM

I watch it now and again for a laugh. I have a season 5 DVD pending my way and would love to see it.

Why do you have friends that judge you so much?

This just in... most adults don't watch cartoons for little kids or read comic books.

Not that I'm saying there's anything wrong with either (the contrary)... it's just pretty far from the norm. I certainly wouldn't blame either hypothetical reaction from my friends to me just randomly putting in some Turtles cartoons to watch or randomly handing them some comics to read.

I like to watch it every now and then. Especially the Eye of Sarnath saga. Sometimes I'll put it in just to listen to some of the background music. It's just that awesome.

ToTheNines 10-27-2009 02:27 PM

Its part of my rotation of shows. I watch the OT, then the NT, Cowboy Bebop, Batman: TAS, Superman: TAS, Justice League/JLU, Samurai Champloo, Batman Beyond, The Simpsons...

Then I start over. This takes me over a year normally (since I have other things to do/watch), so when I get around Justice Leauge I have to watch a few Turtles episodes. I normally watch the bad ones so I can skip over them when I get back around to it.

SSSS 10-27-2009 02:50 PM

The question should really be "How many of you are NOT watching the classic Toon? (muz b crazy if you're not!:x)"

You forgot the winking smiley face after your post.

No duh. But friends are supposed to accept each other for who they are, regardless of how weird they may be. Unless, they're you know, pedos or serial killers or something. Maybe give you a gentle ribbing about it ("You read comic books? Nerrrrrrrd!") but not give a crap on the whole.

As for my friends, I've had them come over and see TMNT on my DVD shelf and say "You've got Turtles? Why the f*** aren't we already watchin' 'em?"

Icebot 10-27-2009 05:15 PM

I used to watch that show all the time, especially the Red Sky episodes. I guess the only time I really stopped watching it is when new episodes of the 2003 cartoon were being made. I think because I am a huge TMNT fan, the 2003 cartoon was the only show that could get my mind completely off the 1987 cartoon. In 2007, when the new episode showings began to slow down and with Fast Forward, I started watching the 1987 show again and I said to myself "I forgot how awesome this is". I stopped watching it for so long, that I felt like I was watching it for the first time all over again.

CyberCubed 10-27-2009 05:46 PM

I own Seasons 1-8 on DVD and watch them several times.

I guess I rewatch the series once a year or so. Its a fun way to re-live your childhood, assuming you were around back then.

MrPliggins 10-27-2009 08:23 PM

I got the first six seasons on Ebay really cheap last year..so earlier this year I watched through them. In all honesty, the first few seasons were fun to watch, probably a mix of quality and nostalgia. However, once I got into the CBS seasons, it became a chore to watch. Afterwards I kept only the first 3 seasons, which I'll probably pop in again one day.

On the opposite end, my friends laughed off the suggestion of watching the new one in favor of the old. People love nostalgia.

I watch the 87 show still from time to time. I go in phases of watching various 80's cartoons and it makes the rounds.

CyberCubed 10-27-2009 08:32 PM

Season 6 and Season 7 are actually both really good, by old toon standards.

The show gets slapstick during parts of Season 4 and 5, but by Season 6 its mostly action again.

Of course Seasons 8-10 are darker and have more action too.

This is me too. I've bought all the releases, I can watch the first three seasons and season 7 no problem, but after that I can only get through certain episodes. I get really sleepy during everything else.

Oh, I don't know. I think the only season where it was really bad was season four. Something like forty episodes and maybe five of them are worth their stuff. At least season five has all the mutant cameos running around.

Tuxedo Moroboshi 10-28-2009 01:06 AM

It's not my preferred TMNT show, but I do watch it every once in a while. I listen to and/or watch the (pre-Red Sky) theme song all the time, though.

This just in, that isnt remotley true. That's more a consequence of peer pressure from friends.

I guess the ridiculous plots and "action figure commercial" cameos cant hold my interest.

Candy Kappa 10-28-2009 06:06 AM

except for a couple of random episodes, I've only seen season 1and 2. which where just for the laughs of the show, when my girlfriend got the DVD's cheap.

It's just not my cup of tea

triplexxx 10-28-2009 07:22 AM

Considering it's the only part of my childhood worth remembering, aside from game shows, and the only cartoon I was willing to go through the trouble of spending money on, it's safe to say I will never lose interest.

I'm the same way. I typically pop in Season 1 if I want a good watch. The sad part is, I have all the OT DVD's that are out, but I've only watched episodes from the first three seasons maybe. Haven't gotten to 4 and beyond.

You're not the only one who has done that. I've shown a few people the original stuff and they're quite surprised and impressed.

God. No, it isn't. Just because you spend your life watching kids shows doesn't mean everyone who doesn't is bent by peer pressure. I've agreed with everything you've said lately, but you've got to stop pushing that complete horse sh*t.

Tora_Chan 10-28-2009 11:31 AM

I'll watch one episode every once in a while. But otherwise I'm with Andrew NDB, no amount of nostalgia can make me sit through several episodes in a row.

I find alcohol helps.
:D

In fact, that's how I intend on watching the whole OT series when I get there: Cue up the drinking games.

Jester 10-28-2009 11:57 AM

I'm not now, and havent in a while, but I do have it on DVD and if I get the inkling I do.
