Any know about this drawings from the original movie?

Hey guys,

this is a question that I have asked Peter Laird a while back but he wasn't sure so maybe someone here may know.

Do you guys remember the turtle sketches that April is doing of Leo and Don in the first movie when they are at that old house and raph is in the tub? Does anyone know who really drew that or who has that. I guess for me, that has always been something i really liked about the movie and always thought one of the artists had drawn it for the film. But according to Pete he didnt and mentioned it could have just been someone in the film. Has anyone ever seen it in real life or know about it? Thanks!

Ash 12-29-2009 12:24 PM

I watched the original film a few days ago with friends and wondered exactly the same thing...

agliarept 12-29-2009 10:37 PM

Yea i always like those drawings, wasn't sure if the actress really drew them, would be cool!

Dejablue 12-29-2009 10:53 PM

It'd be cool if the actress actually drew them XD

Powder 01-05-2010 12:31 AM

Yeah I don't think anyone knows, at least not fans. Steve barron would, I imagine. To me, those would be the coolest props for a collector, outside of heads & whatnot.

Edit: This has given me a really cool idea. I'm going to recreate the sketches one day when I'm bored, then blot them with teabags & rub the hell out of em to get an aged look. I'll frame those motherf***ers!

Venom 01-05-2010 12:39 AM

Don't quote me, but I coulda sworn that I read/heard that Dooney did them.

Again, I'm not stating that as absolute fact.

ooglafina 01-05-2010 12:48 AM

It's not in the closing credits? I suppose somebody already looked and this is a pointless suggestion.

Of course it is, which is why my disappointment in people is so high right now.

Karen Steward seems to be a pretty good artist with a knack for capturing realism. Know if she's done any more TMNT work?

That would be a big no. There has yet to be a female artist or writer on any published TMNT works (excluding student work that was published in one of the Tales Vol. 2 issues, which was specified as being non-canon (although it was set in Vol. 4 and a million times better than the real Vol. 4)).

jaymq 01-05-2010 05:14 AM

Who did the scroll on movie 3?

agliarept 01-05-2010 08:06 AM

SMH at my own damn question, dayum SMH all day to this one. hahaha thanks guys, obviously i never stuck around for the credits all these years haha.

Raph 01-05-2010 10:00 AM

Does anyone know if Karen Steward has a website, or anything?

agliarept 01-05-2010 11:14 AM

I have been checking all day. Would be great!

Hmm, that's a problem that ought to be remedied. Hopefully we'll see some breakout female talent working on TMNT somewhere down the line.

Mary Woodring done the colouring for Vol 2 issue 1, and I believe quite a few issues were lettered by a Mary Kelleher. Not to split hairs or anything, I know they aren't the penciller/inker/writer, but they are still females published in TMNT works. And painting and lettering is still art. (Anyone ever tried to letter by hand? That malarky be hard!)

Oh, I'm aware of that. And I believe April Fisher was a colorer in one of the old First graphic novels. But I was really just meaning pencillers and writers. I think (hope) people should know me well enough to know I don't shun any part of the creative process that goes into putting these things together. But coloring and lettering do not add to the TMNT creative canon to the level that it would make much difference whether a man or woman did the job.

I'd never think for one second that you'd shun anything along that lines, that's completely not what I was meaning. I thought that was what you meant, just pencillers & writers. Some folk mighta read your post and thought "What? No females have had a hand in TMNT comics?!" so I was just letting them in the know... :D

Good question. That, I believe, WAS illustrated by Michael Dooney, which would be very appropriate. I still need to verify this though and have been combing the web for info.

d_osborn 01-18-2010 11:47 AM

a TMNT collector on another message board i frequent has the black/white photo that was used for the leo sketch. he bought it from the prop master. i've been trying to buy it from him, but he won't budge...

agliarept 01-18-2010 11:48 AM

really??? thats aweomse, what board is that? If i were him i would never budge as well lol. to me thats like one of the most sought after props in movie 1. awesome!!!

That'd be awesome. He's my fave TMNT artist.

Adam Riches 01-19-2010 12:00 AM

I've shot an e-mail over to Karen to see if she might be interested in sharing any info with the fan community, I'll let you guys know what she says when she gets back to me. :tgrin:

Ninja_Shoe_Repair 01-19-2010 12:59 AM

I actually shot her over an e-mail several days ago asking her if I could commission her to do the same sketches over ago for my own collection. I haven't heard back from her yet but I'll keep you guys posted.

agliarept 01-19-2010 11:50 AM

Raph 01-19-2010 03:38 PM

The artist of Tales 41, Steph Dumais, is a woman... I think. I'm still looking into that.

Venom 01-26-2010 11:11 PM

Nupe, he's a dude.

I know we've all seen it but just for the sake of saving to our tmnt folders, can we get some screen caps of aprils sketcheS?

Those two pictures of Leonardo are different drawings...

Powder 01-28-2010 11:04 AM

Thanks alot for the screen caps you two! I did two sketches yesterday from memory that I now see are somewhat different then the originals (didn't feel like throwing the movie on). Now that I have referance shots I'm going to re-create them fully. In the meanwhile, enjoy these?
